Thanks all - still plugging away.

Needastrongone · 01/02/2017 21:58

Well, never mind Daw, still good work anyway Smile

Done my 7 mile run. Changed dinner tonight to a pasta dish. Made a home made tomato sauce, added lots of veggies (pepper, mange tout, asparagus, brocolli, garlic, onion) and added grilled sausage. Hoovered mine up cold after my run in an undignified manner.

Sat on my arse with wine he he..

PT session at 10.30am to look forward to...

SesameSparkle · 01/02/2017 22:14

Welcome to the 9s dawhead! It was getting lonely here.... Grin

Needastrongone · 02/02/2017 06:22

Morning. I woke up early today. My turn Not. I haven't cooked though....!

7.4 this morning.

PT session, 2 x dog walks but no running.

JontyDoggle37 · 02/02/2017 06:27

Need dinner sounds lovely
Mumbod keep plugging
Sesame I'll be joining you in the 9s in the next few weeks!
Sugar haven't seen you around, hope you're ok
Morning all! Back on track today. Hangover day was bad, and it took me 2,500 calories to get through the day, which basically means 5,000 calories in two days (gulp). As a result, I'm not getting on the scales until Sunday morning Grin.
I've already done a HIIT workout this morning, which I haven't managed for ages - I'm still coughing a bit but it felt good to move!
Food today is:
B - egg on toast, coffee
L - jacket potato with herbed sour cream
D - sticky tamarind chicken with noodles and veg (whoever asked for the recipe, I've just been looking for the tamarind marinade recipe but I can't find it - I've just got a pot of the stuff I made previously that's been languishing in the freezer for ages so I'm using it up!)
Have a good day everyone!

Not2bObvious · 02/02/2017 07:17

Oops, I hope my low level insomnia is catching need
dawg, just rereading what you wrote, you've struck on something definitely on the longer days and how hard it is to stretch the calories across them - harder still when my compulsion is to reach for salty/sugary foods. I'm a terror for buying the stuff too! I woke at 4, read for an hour & then managed to get back asleep for 1.5 hours, I feel much better. I do have the option for a nap in the afternoon some days, I just worry it'll impact on sleep later. I've lots to think about, thanks so much again for the help😉

D'oh - I meant I hope my low level insomnia isn't catching - sorry need!

Morning all - you're an inspiring bunch!

I think my gain is down to not having been able to exercise as much thanks to having sciatica for a couple of weeks.

I'm feeling a bit better today so I'm off to my allotment this morning to wheelbarrow a load of muck around. That should burn off a few cals.

The family are having fish and chips from the chippy tonight. I was going to join them and had worked out my calories and everything, but I think the way things are that would be self-sabotage rather than a treat. So I'm having a rethink.

JontyDoggle37 · 02/02/2017 08:20

MumBod if you've worked out your cals and fitted fish and chips in, good for you, go for it! That's how you make diets sustainable, by finding ways to build in things that feel like treats.

Sugarandsalt · 02/02/2017 08:33

I'm alive! Just been busy with visitors/work. Visitors leaving today so feeling more motivated. Was very good Tuesday but slipped up yesterday at course (couldn't quite resist the cakes).

Plans for today -
Rice Krispies for breakfast (not the best start I know!)
Sushi salad for lunch
Chickpea/spinach pie for dinner

Needastrongone · 02/02/2017 09:11

Mum How would having the fish and chips make you feel? Would they make you feel worse, as you feel this week hasn't had the achievements you wanted, or great, because it's within calories and you are with your family? Bit deep, but I'm kind of getting now that food is more than fuel Smile

Not2bObvious · 02/02/2017 09:32

If it fits your calories and you want it mum, have it. Depeiving yourself unnecessarily isn't a long term plan and doesn't send the best message to children. I'm reading a book about a family who's daughters become anorexic (fiction but true to life!) and it's making me question my attitude to dieting. I really really work on not letting my kids see me dieting and conscious of sending the message that certain foods aren't "bad" I have to say it's something that worries me dreadfully. I couldn't bear the thought of my child wasting away.

I have a RL dilemma about this. My own DD is nearly 16 and has a BMI that would put her overweight, close to obese. I can't help but notice on a day to day basis that she makes different food choices to the rest of the family. One DC will come in from school, make a tuna wrap and grab some fruit, DD will go straight and get a chocolate bar and a packet of crisps. She's already had crisps and chocolate for lunch. She will sprinkle a massive pile of cheese on stuff, drink Coke (given the opportunity!) etc etc. Inhales her food. Leaves her fruit from her pack up.

But then dresses in baggy clothes.

It's very very very hard to ensure that your DC make healthy choices, all in the context of a balanced diet, without making it an issue. I haven't got the answer.

Needastrongone · 02/02/2017 09:50

ps - obviously DD has never seen me on a diet. I don't ban food, label it naughty. I cook from scratch. Crisps and chocolate are in the house, the rest of it ignore it. I don't have food issues to pass on, but still find it hard.

Needastrongone · 02/02/2017 09:53

ps - just made an amazing smoothie of coconut milk, banana, blueberries, mango and peanut butter. Was still starving after egg on toast Smile

Not2bObvious · 02/02/2017 10:02

The fact she dresses in baggy clothes could mean she's trying to disguise the extra weight (or maybe she just likes baggy clothes) You have my sympathy need, must be v hard to know whether to approach it or even how to! I have 2 skinny sisters, I was the tubby one growing up for lots of reasons. Some of us are just wired different I guess😔 I think all you can do is be there for her, see if she decides to confide in you and ask for your help. My girls are younger and their school doesn't allow chocolate only on Fridays. Of course some do bring it in but I stick rigidly to that rule - then they go to GD's twice a week & eat all manner of crap. I find it impossible to police without making too obvious an issue of it - v hard

Needastrongone · 02/02/2017 10:08

I agree, I'm not fully sure. She's large of boob, but also probably self-aware too a touch. High school is less strict re food in general. Your last sentence sums it up perfectly and I feel it's a tightrope. If I 'ban' all crap, I don't think that's a healthy message either I agree.

I'm just trying to set a decent example of what a balanced, active lifestyle is while not enforcing stuff. She see me eat crap when I fancy and I drink wine every night (!!), but she does make different choices too.

A tightrope it certainly is. Smile

Sugarandsalt · 02/02/2017 11:28

I was a slightly chubby child and my mother made me feel like a whale. Constantly commented on what I was eating, how I looked etc. Definitely set me up for a bad relationship with food. (I know you wouldn't do that Need).

I don't know what the right response is. Obviously you want to her to take responsibility for her eating and this point but not make an issue of it. Is she active? Does she cook?

Not2bObvious · 02/02/2017 13:49

Wow - the difference a busy morning makes to appetite (I think I should rename mine "appetite for destruction"!) I had someone in and was kept busy from 10-1.30, and I wasn't actually hungry. I did have to eat as I have a class later on but it goes to show distractions help greatly.
11.7.6 this morning, probably be the same tomorrow but you never know, I could get lucky and have a drop. 11.5.2 last Friday.

OP posts:
Bathsheba3 · 02/02/2017 13:59

Agree - v hard to know how to play it out & get the right balance. Don't know what to add that you don't already know need, but think you are doing right to not mention, and to keep those foods about. Happiness is the fundamental objective for our DC's, and so perhaps there is other stuff - self-esteem issues, which manifests in comfort-eating? I'm no expert at all though. My own teen DD has MH history incl food-issues, thankfully nothing major though, but other physical scars. She has talking therapy, but issues still there, so recently resorted to AD's last resort. So far so good. But we can only do our best, really. And there does come a point in parenthood - although I never thought I would get there - when they really do have to learn for themselves.

Needastrongone · 02/02/2017 14:00

I know what you mean Sugar Smile I feel like it's a balancing act. She's pretty active but could do more tbh. I've started a new class that she can come with me to, as it doesn't clash with her training. And, like you say, at nearly 16, she may even choose to leave home in 2 years. It needs to be her healthy choice to make. A tightrope indeed. We are very close though at least.

I agree Bath business is distraction. Fingers crossed for the loss.

I've done the PT session, which was really ramped up, so I will ache tomorrow. But all good.

Breakfast - egg on toast, coffee.
Snack - smoothie as above.
Lunch - quinoa salad, 2 chocolates from my stash that DS bought me!!
Dinner - JO Chicken Kiev and lots of veggies.
Wine (Bath) Grin

I should like the Joe Wicks book more than I do but I'm still feeling the love for Jamie Grin

Bathsheba3 · 02/02/2017 14:05

LOL Not. Absolutely agree in keeping busy! Hope you don't get too tired later though. Glad the bloat is shifting too.

Needastrongone · 02/02/2017 14:11

Sorry, Not, I called you Bath. Again...... Do you look alike in RL or something Grin

Bathsheba3 · 02/02/2017 14:14

ooh - forgot to say I made out for a run this morning. Huffed and puffed my way round, but 6.5k done. Would be so much easier if I was in the 10s. Sadly will never be joining you in the 9s club sesame. Last time in the 9s was my wedding day, 15 yrs ago. Time before that I was 11 Grin. 11 7 this morning, and aiming for 10 10.

Bathsheba3 · 02/02/2017 14:15

Hopefully for Not she doesn't Grin although I have just washed and blow-dried my hair.
