Hi, may I join too please? I started at the end of September after a routine health check revealed I was on the cusp of having high blood pressure - I’m 40 but there’s a family history of it – and that I was a stone and a half heavier than I'd assumed, (I've never owned a pair of scales). It was a bit of a shock because I considered myself to be healthy and fairly fit.
Anyway I bought a pair of scales and I’m dieting down to my target BMI in the hope it will bring down my blood pressure - really don’t want to go on medication for it. I’ve lost eight pounds and another seven would put me on track to reach the top of my BMI range before Christmas. I’m not sure what after that. Not having weighed myself for 18 years, I don't know what the right weight for me would be – I guess I have to see how I feel.
I’m using MFP, on a target of 1350 a day. The biggest surprise has been portion sizes. It wasn’t so much that I was eating the wrong things, but I was eating far too much of them. I’m also running/ swimming/ doing weights a couple of times a week and eating back some of those calories. I have a 10k coming up which is helping keep me focused on the fitness side. They say every pound lost is equivalent to 2 seconds a mile faster. Not sure if that’s accurate, but one nice thing is that I’m seeing my Parkrun times drop week on week.
