Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

Sounds great, speedy. Have ordered it on express delivery, hoping it will arrive tomorrow

I need to get off this PC and get homeworks done before we go swimming. If anyone is around can you PLEASE tell me to get up off my lazy ass and get going !!!!!

AbRoller · 29/05/2007 16:19

ok - get off lazy bum and do something!

......and when you get back from swimming, remind me to do the same

speedymama · 29/05/2007 16:21

Wonderful. If it comes tomorrow, you must do Abs & Glutes and give us your verdict. If you want a cardio blast, Energise and Get ripped should have the 8 minute workout.

I was planning to go for a 2 mile run tomorrow but I might just do the Advance Tae Bo followed by Abs & Glutes just to give you moral support. Maybe we can persuade 3andnomore to join in.

laloop · 29/05/2007 16:22

Lol, Abs! Thanks I needed that, I'll be back to yell at you later

laloop · 29/05/2007 16:23

Great speedy I'm in, right I'm away to do some spelling revision now with dd. Catch y'all later

3andnomore · 29/05/2007 16:33

Everybody get ripped, and get ripped are different workouts...by what I can see on Amazon, but confusing in the title....thing is, they seem to re-release some of the exact workouts and then give them a different name...now, wouldn't be so bad if they at least would re-film them, but they are exact the same recordings...hmph, lol! Still love it though....

speedymama · 29/05/2007 16:36

Doh, yes you are right. In fact I bought Everybody Get Ripped because it received better review than Get Ripped.

Oh well, Laloop will get a good workout whichever one she does.

3andnomore · 29/05/2007 16:42

Lol Speedy, I love the get ripped one the best, both their basic and their Advance workout, do also like teh active/energise ones, but just prefer the get ripped one, but really can't get friendly with teh abs and gluts one....lol....I think it's the speed of floor exercise which I have probs with....however, Tae bo is good for abs and gluts anyway, no matter what....the punches are great for the oblique (sp?) and the kicks are great for abs and gluts....well, but usually it also gives ya a great cardio at the same time

OH, I just did Nell McAndrews Ultimate challenge one (haven't done that one in a while, as it is even harder and i think longer then the maximum Impact one...and I was so proud of myself that I can do so many more of the Squats (still not all as continiously as Nell and co...but definitely more then ever)and I also did the resistence training for the arms wiht my 2Ibs weights and I only ever done that section with 1/2 Ibs one before and found that difficult....must say I don't think the day will come when I can do push ups properly....anyone else find those really difficult? I mean, I can see improvement, but think it will probably take me a year or 2 to get lots of sets of those properly done....hohum!

Oh and here is a Question, on Beverly Callards Rapid results DVD she mentions that women should not use heavier weights then 2Ibs....is that actually true? Because when I do Davina or Beverly Callards workout I really could easily do tose with heavier weights, but have resisted buying anyhting heavier because that comment stuck in my mind....

Sorry for the endless ramble, btw!

speedymama · 29/05/2007 16:54

I have Nell's McAndrews Maximum Impact and Peak Energy. What is Ultimate Impact like and is it worth getting?

I use weights heavier than 2lb. If you can handle it, I don't see the problem. You certainly won't build huge muscles because you need large weights, low reps and a huge injection of testesterone for that too happen. I would banish that comment from your head because it sounds ill-informed.

3andnomore · 29/05/2007 17:34

lol speedy...wouldn't surprise me, although I do actually like Beverly Callards Workout, although can't help but laugh at some of the muppets on it (blokes in male aerobics outfits do look hilarious, lol)!

Ultimate challenge is challenging to say the least...not done the peak one, am hoping of getting that one soonish but compared to Maximum Impact it's a lot harder all in all....more Squats and more arms up in the air, and that is just the cardio, lol...when I first started doing it, I was knackered just after the cardio...well, there is 2 cardios, but one is more a warm up, so, not very long and the second one is long....I think more then 40minutes, lol...but might just feel that way of course...but it certainly isn't shorter then 40minutes...
here what is said on Amazon:)

JenT · 29/05/2007 20:00

thanks for the guidance, I can fit in more when DS1 is at nursery perhaps I should take some of that time to dig out the lovely patsy palmer all dance workout I bought eons ago. As for WW I have a difficult relationship with that organisation I signed up to loose weight for my wedding and doing it to the letter eating 18 points a day I put on 1.5 stone in a month! I have just got a really slow metabolism that I think I need to speed up through exercise because eating more than a mouse each day and the weight seems to pile on.

I am loving your reviews of your videos and the idea of beverly callard (it is her from correy?)in a leotard sounds like an education!

Jen x

3andnomore · 29/05/2007 20:05

Must say, I tried the points for a week if that, and didn't get on with that at all...but the core usually works good! BUt exercise is definitely more important, and you cna sort of get away with more if you have more muscle, lol!

laloop · 29/05/2007 20:36

Well our swimming trip was a bit of a disaster, ds2 had fallen asleep at dinnertime so I waited until dh got back from work to take the other two. By the time we got there we were 10 minutes past the 7.30pm cut-off for children being allowed in.

How's everyone else's day been?

paulaplumpbottom · 29/05/2007 22:13

I went for a long walk today. A bit of a power walk actually. I also did loads of housework. Does that count?

laloop · 29/05/2007 22:27

Hi paula, how's it going? Housework can definitely count as exercise (I can easily turn an hour's cleaning into a workout by sticking on some tunes and going for it !)

paulaplumpbottom · 29/05/2007 22:34

How are you?

Two for one feel good points, I like it

laloop · 29/05/2007 22:43

Doing ok

JenT · 30/05/2007 06:57

so didn't really do well yesterday, rained all day! but had a 3 hour walk round town (bimble) and scrubbed the ricecakes off the kitchen floor (didn't know they would turn to concrete!)
hope to do better today

speedymama · 30/05/2007 10:44

Good morning everyone.

After dropping the twins off at nursery, I went for a 2 mile run. My intention was actually to do 3 miles but it started raining so I cut it short. Then I did the Tae Bo Abs and Bums workout.

Now I'm going to vacuum my whole house before going to London for a business meeting.

So hope you all have a good day.

laloop · 30/05/2007 11:11

Morning Jen and speedy

I'm at home this morning catching up with a mountain of laundry, exciting stuff eh
Hoping that the Tae bo dvd will arrive today.

Going for a 3 mile run this evening. I hope I'm ok - haven't been running in 3 weeks Have only been doing the odd bit of walking, cycling and the Davina DVD a couple of times. A bit worried as well that my iron may be on the low side at the moment. Have been feeling quite lethargic and "heavy" legs, a tiny bit breathless too - all classic symptoms. Have been anaemic before during pg, now I think it may be due to heavy af's. Will see how I get on, going to stock up on some Spatone iron supplements, red meat, greens and orange juice. Will make gp appt if still feel like this in a week or two.

What's everyone else up to today?

3andnomore · 30/05/2007 11:36

laloop, that is the great thing about Juicing, you know, because Beetroot and spinach works fabulous in Apple/Carrot/Pineapple Juices and they are fabulous if you are anaemic. And the Iron gets so easily digested because it's in juiced form
Saying that, Spatone is the next best thing, imo
I honestly can't believe how many miles you lot run....I remember having to run 1 KM in school, which isn't even 1 mile, I think (never been good at converting miles to km's and the other way around)....and it used to kill me.
I did go through a phase where I did some Jogging, but then some nice friend told me how stupid I look when running, I suppose that put me off even more

Done Nell's Maximum Impact and am really really proud of myself....because after realising just how few Squats there were in that one compared to the Ultimate Challenge, I felt daft not to be able to do them all...wohoo....also did much besser with teh push ups....there is about 40 of them, in sets of 10, 10 wide armes, 10 shoulderwidth apart, then back to wide and so on....actually thinking about it, must be 50 and I did get so much more done , etc....!

Oh, laloop and ppb, are you both in Northern Ireland, or what does NI thread stand for?
I used to live in Ballykelly when I was pg with my youngest son and ended up having him in Altnagalvin (sp???) Hospital (was meant to be a Homebirth)...

laloop · 30/05/2007 12:01

Hi 3anm, I have most of the ingredients in the fridge drawer for that juice, except for the fresh beetroot which I could pick up at the shops today. Would love to try it out - feel as if I need a bit of a "pick-me-up". Tiredness not helped by ds2 being ill with viral infection over the last couple of weeks so very little sleep here. Don't have a juicing machine though, can you whizz it up in a food processor do you know? If so, can I have the recipe please?

BTW, yes I'm in Northern Ireland (NI)!

JenT · 30/05/2007 13:39

Laloop I am such a muppet! I read you post wrong 3 times I thought when you said you were doing laundry and that your iron was too low I thought you meant that your ironing board was not at the correct height! I was trying to work out how this could make you lethargic..

anyway just spent the morning running around a soft play area after my 3 yearold and his friend hoping to get out for an hours walk with the buggy and buggyboard this afternoon.

Jen x

laloop · 30/05/2007 14:18

Lol, jen. My ironing board is lucky if it sees the light of day, never mind the right height
Enjoy your walk this afternoon

3andnomore · 30/05/2007 17:01

Laloop, don't think it would work with a Blender, tbh....! Maybe grating some fresh raw Beetroot into a salad, and instead of lettuce use Spinach, and add whatever else you may fancy.
A Juicer is really a fabby machine though....try to get one over Freecycle....that way you could try one wihtout investing into one.
MY FIL got a lovely very good Juicer, which only cost £40 over E-bay (they usually go for £68 or £75....it is a bit big, but works fabulous). If I ever buy a new Centrifugal Juicer I probably would get that one (got a Jack LaLenne one, which is a bit rubbish, thank god I also got my lovely masticating one, lol).
Obviously short term buying Spatone is the cheaper option, lol, and it is brill stuff
Lol at the Ironing Board thing here...lol...which reminds me, I have no reason to lol, cos I really should be doing some Ironing, and seeing that ys has not napped, he should be off to bed nice and early
