Hi this a new thread linked to "We want to lose 10lbs NEW THREAD"

I'm a Group exercise instructor/Personal Trainer and have been offering advice to mumsnetters!

Following suggestions that it would be good to start an exercise/nutrition advice/motivation thread - well here it is!!

Well done laloop! Oh for someone to invent really great tasting wine with no calories.... !

Sweetheart - I know it doesn't sound much but this is for a sedentary person. If your active during the day and exercising then a bit more is fine. Also remember you can double up the portions but this will cound as 2 of your 5-7 portions of that food group - or maybe just 1.5 portions if you just want a little more...

MuckyAnthea - Hi! Green tea - think that is like herbal without any tanin etc. isn't it? If so then this is fine!

Hi sweetheart - nice to meet you! thanks for the recipes, I am always looking out for easy and new things to make that do not require buying ready made sauces. Your doing great on your exercising by the way

Laloop - well done on the 9 minute mile!! fantabulous! I start back at the gym next Thursday or Friday, so I will be back here regularly reporting back on my gym progress!!

Lorns - glad to hear the green tea is ok to drink, good luck on your exams by the way. Thanks again for the info you post on here, it must take up quite a bit of your time so thanks for helping us all out.

Have a great day exercising y'all!!

laloop · 27/04/2007 10:46

Hi all
Ds2 saying "me wanna go crressshhh" so have booked him into the gym crressshhh for an hour and I'm going to take a nice easy workout for 35 or 40 mins.

Porridge with a banana for brekkie.

Have a nice day everyone

sweetheart · 27/04/2007 16:06

It's been quite quiet here the last couple of days.

I have to admit I'm absolutly desperate to get on the scales. Dh has taken the battery out and hidden it so I can't but I really want to know how I'm doing this week.

Food wise I have been really good all week and I have done excercise every day so far, even twice on Monday. I'm still feeling quite sore today so not sure if I'll manage the cross trainer tonight but I have been for a small bounce of dd's trampoline so thats got to count for something!

I hope everyone else is doing well!

Tomorrow will be my real test. We are going shopping so it will probably be tempting to get a takeaway for lunch plus we are out for a friends birthday so there will be lots of booze. I'm planning on sticking to vodka and diet coke to minimise calories and if we go to McDonalds or somewhere tomomrrow lunch I'll try and be good and have one of the salads or something! Today has been ok so far - I've just gotta keep it up till Tuesday!

laloop · 27/04/2007 18:51

Hi

Did 15mins hillrunning on the treadmill and then 10 mins on crosstrainer. Last minute arrangements to go out with friends tonight, so have cancelled my 9am Bodypump class in case we have a late night (which would be managing to stay up past 11pm these days !). Still planning on going to Monday's class instead.

Have been good eating-wise today, porridge this morning, jacket potato and tuna and salad for lunch. Going to a Japanese restaurant tonight so food will be healthy enough, just need to go easy on the drinks.

Hope you all have a great weekend, weather's lovely here so will be out and about - catch up with everyone again soon

bigknickersbigknockers · 28/04/2007 14:54

Hello ladies, can I join?

I have just started exercising again after having my last child. I have about 2 stone to lose so have started going spinning on Tues and Thurs mornings. I know this isnt much but I have to get someone to look after DD 15 mths and before I go I have to drop off DS1 at school and DS2 at pre school, so I am pleased to have managed to get there twice a week for the last month.

Anyway I was hoping you nice ladies would be able to help me along. My legs are firming up slowly but the excess weight isnt moving from around my middle and my SIL said she would like to go to Bodypump as she has done this before. Do you think this class will benefit me? what I need to know is should I lose the extra weight first then tone up or will it be ok to do spinning twice a week and a bodypump class as well.
Sorry for rambling on, any advice is welcome, You all seem to know what you are talking about.
TIA

Hi everyone

Just checking in before I get the twins up and ready for Sunday School.

On Thursday, I went to the gym and did 25 minutes on the flat on the treadmill. I started on 8km/h for 5 minutes, then 9km/h for 10 minutes followed by 10km/h for 10minutes. I'm really trying to improve my pace. I then decided to do another 3 minutes on the incline at 8.5km/h. I was completely exhausted after all that. I then did some weights on the legs before rowing for 1000m. That was quite difficult because all my energy had been spent on the run. I then did some upper body work with the weights as well as ab work before finishing. It was an intense workout but I felt exhilerated afterwards.

Yesterday, my legs still felt heavy from the fast pace I had done on the treadmill so I decided to just do a 3 mile run. I started off slowly but after a mile my legs had loosened up and I managed to increase my pace and was able to run at a fairly decent pace.

Hope everyone is doing well.

sweetheart · 29/04/2007 18:21

Hi all, well I'm having a fairly typical weekend! Started Sat well with some toast and then a tuna salad at lunchtime. However we got home from shopping really late and only had an hour to get the kids and ourselves dinner and get ready to go out - so we ordered a pizza

Then we went out for a friends birthday and I had quite alot to drink - although I did stick to vodka and diet coke. Although we did have some vodka shooters which were flavoured so probably quite high in calories! This was spurred on by my willpower breaking - I got onthe scales . I was really dissapointed as I've only lost 1.5Ibs after a week of watching everything I ate and doing loads of excercise!

Today has been ok but I did sneek some chocolate earlier!

Hope everyone else was better behaved this weekend - I promise not to weigh again until Tuesday morning!

Biglips · 29/04/2007 18:56

hiya all...

havent been on here much as computer crashed a week ago and it just got fixed - hurrah!!

i last went to the gym on thurs (not been for 10 days as couldnt get anyone to look after DD) and did a 3 mins walk, 3 mins run X 2 on the treadmill - bloody ell my face was bright red!!

also did the cross trainer for 10 mins!

and also another exercise equipment that firemen and police use it. must find out the name.

but still not lost any weight or gained so i will spk to them tmrw and go on the Diet doctor programme

laloop · 30/04/2007 10:23

Hi everyone

Welcome bigkbigK - well done on getting to the spinning class twice a week, it's not easy finding the time and energy when you've got young dc's! I'm sure one more class a week would be plenty, Bodypump comes highly recommended - any friends who go to it regularly have really toned up. Plus Lorns teaches classes in it so she will have some more info I'm sure if you're curious about it. I'm really keen to try Bodypump but have been having difficulty so far getting creche sessions matched up with classes - was meant to go to gym this morning but ds2 has woken up really sniffly and miserable this morning so have had to cancel. Will hopefully get to a class later this week, will let you know how I get on .

Sweetheart, we had a really late night on Friday. Stayed up until after 2am, lovely meal lots of sushi and shellfish so ate healthily but drank several large glasses of wine and an Irish coffee, oh dear. Was really tired on Sat so didn't really eat properly, just grazed all day.

Did a bit better yesterday, we were at the caravan from Sat night. Went for a walk Sun morning then playing at the loughshore with the kids most of afternoon. Even attempted a swim but water was freezing even with a wetsuit on, so didn't get too far!!!

Well done on the running, speedy, and good to hear from you again Biglips (had wondered where you'd got to!)

Keep up the good work everyone

sweetheart · 30/04/2007 10:52

Laloop, glad to hear you had a good weekend! Sorry your ds isn't feeling too well hope he's better soon. Perhaps you should take him for a walk, that way you get some excercise and he gets some good old fashioned fresh air! The best medicine there is

Hello bkbk - sorry for being rude and not saying hello before . I think your doing great to be getting back in the saddle (so to speak) twice a week is a brilliant effort and you'll probably find that as you get into a routine with excercise it will be easier to fit it in. I've never done body pump but I've heard it's very good. It might be worth loosing some weight before toneing up but our lovely Lorns will have better advice for you on that - she's a pro!

Biglips, hello to you too! I was like you when I started the gym. I could only do 10 mins and I was knackered. My fitness has improved sooooo much and if you go regularly it happens very quickly!

Today I am 100% back on my plan. I have a gym visit at lunchtime and a netball match tonight. I made myself a salad this morning and had breakfast. I'm really hoping that tomorrow the scales will be kind to me Otherwise I'm in danger of loosing my motivation!

bigknickersbigknockers · 30/04/2007 11:24

thanks laloop and sweetheart, I have decided to dig out my old WW books and go back to counting points, i find it really difficult to stick to a diet
I am just about to have a ham salad teacake for dinner and had a slice of toast for breakfast.

I will be going spinning tomorrow and am looking forward to that. I am also hoping Lorns will be able to advise me on what to do next.

I have resisted temptation already today, crisps and chocolate are my weakness but if I can just get through a few days without them I should be ok.

Thanks for listening to me ramble on, I will check in later

sweetheart · 30/04/2007 11:49

bkbk,

I am following ww at the moment so we can help each other out.

sweetheart · 30/04/2007 22:55

where is everyone

laloop · 01/05/2007 08:21

Hi everyone
Weighed this morning and I have lost 1.5lbs, sweetheart how did you get on? Using Marls' BMI calculator link I have gone from 23.8 to 23.5.

Have to go and collect a parcel today from city centre, so today's exercise will mainly be pushing ds2 around the shops in his buggy . Have PTA meeting at school tonight so no proper exercise until tomorrow.

What's everyone else up to today?

sweetheart · 01/05/2007 09:17

Morning,

well done Laloop ! What a brilliant start.

I have lost 1.75Ibs which takes my BMI from 23.8 to 23.5 which is a bit wierd as it means I totally snap with you

I had a good day yesterday, went to the gym at lunchtime and also played netball last night. I treated myself to a glass of wine and a handful of malteasers after the match. The wine was within my ww points but the choc wasn't

Dh is going out tonight so I plan on having a good go on the cross trainer once the kids are in bed.

Have a great day in the city Laloop - buy yourself something nice

sweetheart · 01/05/2007 09:19

Laloop - just out of interest, how tall are you?

laloop · 01/05/2007 09:30

Well done, sweetheart
That's a bit weirdy indeed on the BMI snap! I'm 5'4" and now 9st 11lbs. How's the rest of the dieters getting on?

This week I want to try a 4 mile run, normally run 3 miles. Speedy, how is your running programme going?

Biglips · 01/05/2007 10:10

well done laloop xx

laloop · 01/05/2007 20:35

Had a nice day walking around the shops, managed not to buy anything, was very good - if I lose another few lbs I'm going to treat myself to a couple of new summer things, saw some lovely cropped linen trousers in GAP

Did you get started on the WW points plan too, bigkbigk? We just started a weigh-in day on here last week for anyone who wants to keep track of their weightloss if they're dieting. It's on a Tuesday.

Really need to get some more running in this week. The Belfast Marathon is on Monday and it would be great to get a decent time for my relay leg. I'm the only mum on the relay team - we're raising sponsorship for our primary school by entering a parents' team - so have to show us girls can do it!!!

Lorns · 02/05/2007 09:22

Laloop - good luck for the marathon

To those of you loosing weight 1-2lbs a week is very good and SENSIBLE! Chocolate is irresistable. Would a low calorie instant choclate drink do instead???

Hi to BKBK - you're most welcome. Spinning is good and you can increase your gears when it becomes easier !! By the way is it spinning or RPM that you do? When doing lots of spinning - ensure that you are stretching out your hip flexors. I've just "yahooed" Kneeling hip flexor stretch and it brought up loads (whole of web search).

Bodypump is great at tonig the body once you have the right weights. You should feel that you don't want to do any more by the end of each track (except the warm up and cool down). I have an info. sheet on how to get the most out of B/Pump. If you CAT me I'll email it to you.

Ideally you should do more than 1 BP a week to see results and not on consecutive days. To start 1 is better than none! Remember everyone that goes for all weight workouts (except if your alternating working upper then lower body).

Hi to BCE - my computer is very tempremental at the mo - but DH just denies anything is wrong. Think he takes it personnally as he works in IT!

OP posts:
sweetheart · 02/05/2007 09:57

Hello all,

Laloop, I didn't relise you were running a marathon - good luck hun and good for you! I'd love to say I'd done that.

I had a bit of a bad day yesterday! I burnt our dinner whilst chatting to our neighbour so I had to stick some chips in the oven and rush to the supermarket for a cooked chicken - the only thing they had left was a ham shank (and I ate some crackling and some coated chicken (like KFC) which I ended up eating) We were in a rush as dh goes out on a Tue night so I didn't have time to cook something healthy!

I also didn't manage to get on the cross trainer last night. My muscles were aching so much from my gym visit and netball match on Monday that I just couldn't do it. I ended up falling asleep on the sofa instead.

Today I'm back on it, I have a salad for lunch and am going to the gym at lunchtime. Only problem is that my boss wants to go for lunch tomorrow which probably means lots of fattening food (he likes posh restaurants where everything is covered in butter!). Then we have another birthday on Saturday which means another booze fulled night. I can see this week turning into a total waste of all my good work last week!

Sorry, I'll stop maoning now

Hello to everyone else [waves] I hope your all having a good week!

laloop · 02/05/2007 12:03

Hi all

Went to my WW class this morning. Missed last week but had lost 2.5lbs from a fortnight ago. Our talk was on the importance of recording everything you eat and drink, I can be quite lazy about this so it was a good reminder.
I had 2 slices of wholegrain toast, soft cheese and a tomato for breakfast. Going to make a tomato, avocado and mozzarella salad for lunch. Then chicken, brown rice and veggies for dinner. I'm trying to keep my diet reasonably lowcarb except breakfast when I'm allowing myself either toast or porridge and fruit.

I'm going to try a four mile run with dh tonight if we can sort out getting the lo's minded for an hour. (Sweetheart, I'm just running a part of the marathon in a relay team of 5 members - would really love to say I'm doing the whole thing but unfortunately not!!).

Keep up the exercising everyone, I'll try to pop back later and let you know how I get on with the running.

MummyPenguin · 02/05/2007 12:35

Right, I'd better get my fat arse back onto this thread. Haven't been to the gym since well before the Easter holidays and have been eating shite so surprise surprise I've put weight on. My own fault though.

Went back to gym today, did a 15 minute run, then 10 mins walking quite fast on an incline, cross trainer for 15 minutes, really went for it on that. Then some weights. Cycled there and back too. Have bought some Slim Fast. Am determined to get my weight down again. My clothes are feeling tight and I don't like it.

speedymama · 02/05/2007 12:41

Hi All

No exercise since the weekend since I have been working long hours. Hoping to go to gym tomorrow. Trying to get better at recording my points but I just forget - silly me.

Well done on weight loss Laloop and Sweetheart.

Welcome back MP. Before you know it, your clothes will be falling off you.
