The No S Diet [title edited by MNHQ]

I've decided that I finally need to commit to losing my baby weight. I have 2 stone (ideally more to lose). But will just take it half a stone at a time. I am not really into crazy diets. So I've gone for the 's' diet which is basically eat sensibly diet! No snacks, seconds or 'sweets' (includes cakes etc ) except on days beginning with s (weekends and special days). So three meals a day basically. Does anyone want to join me or be my supporter? I lost 1.5 lb the first week, but then gained 0.3. Next weigh in is Monday and today I was 2.5lb lighter so I'm hoping I will have lost something. I am piling up a bit on the meals but figure that I need that to stick to it at the moment. Hopefully as I adjust I can make the meals smaller/healthier too. Looking forward to the weekend for a pudding and some wine!

Also, I am certain there is an irony in the fact I have put on half a stone since owning a fitbit. I don't think they will be using me in their advertising Grin

twofloorsup · 11/02/2017 12:39

I think my kids are of good weight and active enough not to worry.
I try not to put my food issues onto them although I do find myself saying " wouldn't an apple be a better choice?" !

AristonAndOn · 11/02/2017 13:43

I agree it's difficult when it comes to food and children. I feel I have wasted so many years with a disordered view of food, I don't want to transfer that to my children. I grew up with only 3 meals a day. Snacking so much seems like a newish thing. Since having children, nearly every group has snacks, or after an activity out comes the snacks, or the please be quiet, have this snack! I'm sure not all are needed, though mine are only 5 and 2. My 5 year old seems to need then after school and before an after school club, but I am trying stopping giving snacks as a habit and let them ask when they get hungry. I put myself on a diet at 9, felt I was too fat. I was never skinny, but that shouldn't have happened.

twofloorsup · 11/02/2017 14:40

Ariston I work as a cook for a specific group of children and it came to light that they are offered food up to 9 times a day !!!
I said they cannot possibly know what it feels to be truly hungry.

beela · 11/02/2017 16:37

Ariston my dc are 6 and 2, so a similar age to yours.

The 6yo eats like a horse and is probably the skinniest boy in his class! He can eat as many snacks as he likes and still sit down and eat a decent meal at an appropriate time. My 2yo however, is much less consistent with her appetite and eats the snacks just like her brother but then refuses 'proper' food. My latest strategy is to bring their evening meal earlier.... say 4.30... and then if they want more after that they can have an evening snack (supper, I suppose) and at least dd will have eaten a real meal. At least their snacks are usually relatively healthy... fruit or cheese is usually first choice.

I agree with you on the snacking culture. I'm sure we didn't constantly graze when we were growing up. It's such a responsibility to make sure they develop a healthy attitude towards food! I think I also need to let them ask when they get hungry.

two nine times a day?? Shock

AristonAndOn · 11/02/2017 17:49

Yes two, 9 times! Wow.
Beela, my 2 year old is similar. She shuns the healthier food and wants just the more snacky crisp type stuff. She is copying her older sister who eats the less healthy stuff but she also loves fruit and veg and eats on balance really well.

twofloorsup · 11/02/2017 18:09

Yes seriously 9 times !
They may not take food on every occasion it's offered but as most of them are overweight I would say they usually do.

twofloorsup · 11/02/2017 19:26

Tonight I've had a mince pie and a yogurt with my dinner.
My stomach really doesn't feel good and as much as I hate to throw food away I think the rest of them are going to have to go Shock

AristonAndOn · 11/02/2017 22:42

Hi two, i find it empowering when things like that happens. I'm so used to shovelling everything in regardless of how it feels that moments of clarity like this are fab. 😁

twofloorsup · 12/02/2017 00:13

Ariston I was too busy feeling grossly sick to be empowered but now it's passed a bit I see what you mean !
Just wish the gurgling would stop.
I can't believe these foods had such a grip on me for so long !

AristonAndOn · 12/02/2017 06:42

Oh I didn't realise you felt sick! That's not a good feeling. Is it because you are getting used to not eating as much sweet stuff? I want to be able to enjoy sweet things at weekends, but I can't trust myself yet to do it. 😢 I think I would feel sick through guilt....I've got a lot to work on. So instead I'm eating seconds of lovely dinners instead. Having my big roast again today!

twofloorsup · 12/02/2017 07:48

Yeah I think my stomach is just not used to it any more. I only had a corner yogurt and a mince pie but I had it straight after my eggs benedict so it was "all one plate".
Never again I felt dreadful and laid awake for hours last night !
My daughter gave me a sweet yesterday which I ate and found disgusting. I think my taste has changed and sweet just isn't me.
Although I'm pleased to have changed the habit of a lifetime I do wish it wasn't quite so extreme Smile

twofloorsup · 12/02/2017 07:48

Roast dinner sounds like a brilliant idea. Enjoy yours today Ariston.

beela · 12/02/2017 13:29

Can I just say.... I've just bought the new Tom Daley cookbook, in search of some healthy recipes. It's amazing! The meals I have made so far have been really quick and easy. I've just had a no bread wrap (basically a thin omelette) for lunch and it was sooooo nice!

So if you need inspiration then I'd definitely recommend it.

PosiePootlePerkins · 12/02/2017 19:54

Hi all, hope you've had a good weekend. I have had a very S weekend! Have had large plates plus snacks plus sweets! I just felt that urge to eat and went with it. But I haven't felt overfull, just full if that makes sense. Weigh in tomorrow as always.

TheChampagneGalop · 12/02/2017 20:08

Well, I haven't been able to have a moderate S weekend as planned. Way too much crisps. My excuse is that I'm ill and bored, but I'm wondering what a good tactic for eating less crap during the weekend could be.

twofloorsup · 12/02/2017 21:09

I didn't bother with any S treats today after feeling so rubbish yesterday.
Definitely turned a corner now which I'm really pleased with.
Have a good week all.

AristonAndOn · 13/02/2017 06:10

Well we all seem fairly content with our weekends. I wasn't overly happy as had some sweet things, but trying to deal with that guilt factor. I'm weighing in soon too 🤞🏻 Also have fasting blood test this morning, I hope the queue isn't too bad as I'll be so hungry!

PosiePootlePerkins · 13/02/2017 12:49

I have maintained this week, which I am fine with. I am learning that maintenance is actually OK, I don't have to be on some sort of weight loss race! Hope everyone has a good week.

beela · 13/02/2017 16:36

Posting instead of eating..... just getting the dc some tea at a cafe for a treat. They are playing, I am ignoring the cake counter. I've got a fruit tea. But I could murder a slice of cake!!!

AristonAndOn · 14/02/2017 19:27

Having my first bad day since starting the diet 5 or 6 weeks ago, so hoping not to get too depressed about it. I suppose it counts as a special day as my dh had the day off, we went for a meal and I shock horror had a dessert. Then my brain started craving all sorts when I got home, I've been hungry all day and started nibbling on flapjack. I'm feeling annoyed with myself for having an S day, but also annoyed the it's upsetting me, I know that I shouldn't get this upset. I've been waiting for a bad day, so I can get over it and move on, without going back to my old ways.

twofloorsup · 14/02/2017 19:41

Ariston it's one day in how many ?
You've done really well. I'm suffering tonight as I had porridge with dried fruit for lunch as I was starving and needed to eat quickly.
My stomach now feels like a brick is sat in it.

PosiePootlePerkins · 14/02/2017 19:46

Ariston as twofloorsup says its only one day. One of the best things about NoS is you just get back on it the next day. You could even mark it as a non weekend special day as its valentines and you went out with DH, you are officially allowed 2 a month. I think that's what I'm going to do as although I've stuck to three meals, I cooked a special fish stew with ciabatta bread for DH and ended up having seconds and thirds! Feeling very full now!
Mark it and move on. (I know I'm a broken recordWink)

AristonAndOn · 14/02/2017 20:50

Thanks for the positive talk. I will mark it and move on 😊

PosiePootlePerkins · 14/02/2017 21:35

Awesome! Grin
