Hi luciemule - yes I have dh who is always supportive no matter what I decide - if I decided to just eat and forget it he would probably be ok with it!!! He's lovely but not very motivating iykwim! I think maybe our dhs are the same. Shouldn't complain though, lucky to have him on my side!

Hi bendigoblue - you made shivers go down my spine re patrolling the streets!!!! Thank you for those lovely words. Agree about Counsellor - I think I will go for 4 for first week and see how it goes (it included a bar which a lot of people seem to have been told not to have in first 2 weeks).

Rebi · 15/02/2007 08:54

Oh my God. I am trying to down the butterscotch milkshake and it is so so so so disgusting! I wish I had a straw to make it go down quickly but UGGGGGGGHHHH!

Sorry just felt the need to share!

BTW anything I tried up to now was fine!

bendigoblue · 15/02/2007 09:50

Oh no Rebi, its horible when you don't like stuff isn't it. How are you mixing your shakes etc?

JumpingIn · 15/02/2007 10:37

I've found a counsellor and I'm seeing her tonight to get started. I figure I'll start on Saturday so I'm not stalling only because it's the weekend.

It's quite daunting since I'm in the middle of a big career change but I need to do this. I'm 5'10'' so assume I'll need more per day than most of you on here. Other than the fact that I'm taller is there any reason why it's needed? Where's the justification come from? I could understand if it was weight based but height based seems peculiar.

Are there any questions I should ask her tonight? Anything to watch out for to see if she's good or not? I'm planning on buying 2 week supply and not seeing her for a couple of weeks.

Rebi · 15/02/2007 10:55

I am just trying to stir with spoon and fork in work! I know I should be using blender but going to try and get one of those cappucino dodas and hopefully that will help. Don't really want to draw too much attention to myself at work!! I think where I went wrong too was I added too much liquid and I don't really like sweet drinks anyway, so in future I am just going to add the recommended amount (I am drinking over 4 litres on top so should be ok). Soups are no problem but couldn't face one for breakfast!

Hi JumpingIn - I am on day 3 and 5'7.5" (!!). I was told to take 4 portions and am going to for first few weeks anyway. Good luck. I have really really surprised at how I really have not been hungry so far. The weekend will probably be harder when I am out of routine. I also bought two weeks supply. See below for how I got on with Counsellor! I found out more by reading the three threads (takes some time!) on here and would recommend that!

bendigoblue · 15/02/2007 12:31

I use one of these, its perfect, makes the shakes and soups smooth and creamy in 30 seconds, really recommend buying one if you're in for the long haul. You'd only need to take the base and the tall cup bit with you and its not very big

HinariGenie

You can also get them in Argos.

Devonshire · 15/02/2007 17:18

well done all of you for your losses and hello to the newbies like me! {smile}
i am in day two and while like a lot of you, i am not hungry, i really miss food!! i am making a concerted effort with the water and manage 4 litres + but i think only because i am home all day what with half term and a new puppy yesterday. i don't know how you other ladies manage if you actually have to have a life as well! i spend all my time weeing! does that settle down as your bladder get used to it??
i agree about the shakes, they are such weird tastes, at first it seems normal but its the aftertaste. i nearly gipped with the choc mint, but when hot it was alright-ish!
i don't know whether to weigh myself tomorrow, i may demotivate myself if nothing has come off yet even though it is such early days!

luciemule · 15/02/2007 20:59

Hello everybody - I think being at home is harder as when you're at work you can't see the fridge or cupboards containing all that food for the kids and not you and you're mind is being kept occupied, instead of sitting glued to teletubbies all day!
I had a bad day today as I woke up with a sickness bug. Wasn't actually sick (the kids had it since sunday so I was I'd get it at some point) but couldn't face my shakes today. Yesterday I got the bars and had one last night but now I'm gagging at the thought of another so will swap them over the weeekend I think back to shakes. So this morning, I ate a piece of toast and marmalade and a cup of normal tea with milk as I figured I'd need something if I wasn't having shakes. Yes - I know it should have been protein but I couldn't ham/chicken this morning. DS' 2nd b'day today so felt even more crap that I couldn't give him a nice nirthday, although in laws did come over this afternoon to help out a bit. Tonight ate half a dry bread roll and it's stayed down. What do you all do when you're ill and can't face shakes? I'm worried now that I've bodged my chances of losing that 3lbs to hit the one stone target next Wednesday.

ForcesSweetheart · 16/02/2007 11:54

Hiya
I've been looking into the pros & cons of Cambridge V Lighterlife, as my GP has been pushing Lighterlife for some time now but I've kept saying no due to the cost. I've decided to give Cambridge a go, foremostly because it's cheaper than LL, but also there seems to be a much wider choice of flavours.
I've got a helluva lot to lose (approx 12 stone to be at what's considered normal for my height) and I'm type 2 Diabetic. Wanna TTC again later this year so desperate to get a load of weight off before then, as my first pregnancy was hellish - was wheelchair bound from 6 months (I was 23 stone when I came home from hospital with DD - she's now 13mths and I'm approx 21st).
Won't be able to start straight away as will need to see my GP first about my Diabetes meds, but have an appt with her on Wednesday so after that I'll jump in.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

luciemule · 16/02/2007 12:52

Hello Forces Sweetheart - I'm a army wifey too (although not in the traditional sense of the word - I never have liked flower arranging or quilting!)I was really surprised when my GP said she was all for the CD as I had expected a "ooohhh that's not very sensible is it?!)
However, since yesterday and having a sickness bug, I've been not having the shakes as the thought of it makes me feel even more ill. So just been to Tescos to stock up on white pretein and green veg for today's meals and hopefully, if I feel better tomorro, back to the shakes. Is you DH here at the moment or overseas? I'm finding it very hard with no support from DH whilst he's away although I know a couple of other people doing the diet nearby so it's better than nothing. Good luck once you start.

Devonshire · 16/02/2007 16:31

hi all. sorry to hear that you are not feeling well luciemule. it must be really hard to face those shakes and glug so much water when you are feelin rotten. and try to look after poorly kids too, hmmm, tough!
but you sound like you are doing the right thing, you prob do need proper food at the mo.
welcome forcesweetheart, i am sure you will do great! i have about 5+ stones to lose so am also in for the long haul...i hope.
i am on day 3 now and feel very shaky and like i am walking around on legs amde of glass, if that makes sense, a bit like the afternoon after a bad hangover! i am also absolutely hank marvin!!!!
i was not hungry really on days 1 and 2 so was not expecgting this! i am a SAHM and fri/sat are my DH's days off so i have asked him to take the kids out for tea so i don't have to see food. i have also sent him with a list for the shops as i don't feel i have the self control to resist a big french stick or bar of chocolate if i see one
does it get better again afte day 3, is this me going into ketosis?
(sorry for the long post, am trying to occupy my mind and hands, can you tell?)

=

Devonshire · 16/02/2007 16:35

sorry, have just read the last few posts back and i sound really insensitive, talking about my dh taking the kids off for tea when you have hubbies away. i didn't have my tact button set to "on", can i blame my jelly head and ketosis?

Rebi · 16/02/2007 17:00

Hiya Devonshire - yes day 3 and 4 are meant to be the worse - so stick with it and apparently it gets easier! I am on day 4 and fortunately have really not had any symptoms at all - infact I am wondering if it is working! My mouth does taste disgusting though so probably good sign!!!! Keep with it - I think the weekend is going to be hard for me, so if you like I'll do you a deal - on Monday morning we will come back here and have stuck with it totally. WE CAN DO IT!!!

I am off home (no internet access there) so good luck!

Devonshire · 16/02/2007 17:04

you;re on!!

luciemule · 16/02/2007 17:46

Hi Devonshire - you're doing really well and yes, it does sound like you feel really crap due to ketosis. I felt really sick and crampy the first time I went into it but the next time was fine as I made sure I drank loads of water and focussed mentally on getting through it. Then you get better after that. Good luck this w/e!

Devonshire · 16/02/2007 23:02

thanks! my cdc rang tonight but i was out and thought i wld ring her in the am and weight myself before to see if i have lost anything.
i really hope i have, what do you expect to lose after just 3 days on the diet?

joash · 16/02/2007 23:09

Can I ask i anyone knows how to find a counsellor for Cambridge. I've tried the obvious - the website and emailed/left messages for the counsellors that are supposed to cover my area and no-one has got back to me.

Devonshire · 16/02/2007 23:37

oh that's a bit off joash, you would have thought they would want your business!
there is a website called minimins (not sure of web address) which has a cd thread with cdc's who post on it - you could try there maybe?

joash · 16/02/2007 23:40

Thanks for that. I'll check out te website - I thought they'd be q'ing up considering how much I've got to lose - they could make a fortune.

luciemule · 17/02/2007 08:17

Not sure it's a good idea to weigh yourself Devonshire - my counsellor has really good digital scales and when I weighedmyself at home, it looked as though I hadn't lost anything and then I had to wait the rest of the week thinking I was doing badly. Suffice to say - my scales aren't working properly - thank goodness! If you weigh yourself every couple of days as opposed to once a week, it'll seem like more of an achievement. Also, just drinking a couple of glasses of water can dramatically make a difference so I'd suggest waiting until you see counsellor and wear roughly the same outfit each week and drink the same amount before you go. Just a thought....
I'm back on the shakes this morning - the great thing is I've now got a cold and can't taste anything so I can lull myself back in gently without the worry of gagging!

fussymummy · 17/02/2007 18:58

Just want to say hello and welcome to all the newbies.

How are you all coping?

Haven't been on here much recently as i've had loads of work to do, but should be finished this week, so i can get back to regular posting!

Keep at it everyone and well done to all of you who have lost and all of you who've just started.

It's so lovely to have all the extra support from everyone on here.

ForcesSweetheart · 18/02/2007 19:34

I've decided to give the shakes a try for a week before I contact a CDC and get started properly. I'm notorious for giving up on things really quickly and having no willpower, so I wanna see if I can last a week before I commit to it. If I manage to get past the first 4 days I'll contact a CDC to continue with it. I've bought a seven day supply from someone who lives near me and isn't doing it any more, so will see how I get on with that.
Starting tomorrow morning, so will weigh myself then to get my official starting weight.

Rebi · 19/02/2007 08:28

Good morning everyone!
Well day 6 is here. How did you do Devonshire? Hope things went well. I managed to be good but was a strange weekend - glad to be back at work and routine (can't believe I said that!).

I found Sat lunchtime hard. I was out shopping for cummerbund and bowtie for my ds's school musical. Had to visit every charity shop and men's shop in the town. (Didn't want to pay a fortune for them). Eventually got them but it was one of those horrible shopping trips where everyone was hot and grumpy!! Was walking past bakeries and seeing people in coffee shops and felt a bit sorry for myself - so I just looked at all the skinny people around me instead and told myself "eye on the prize"!!! (How sad!) Other than that was fine. Was a strange weekend though. Totally different routine with no late nights or drink! Not a bad thing though!! We all ended up with colds each too - typical!

I have lost 7lbs in 6 days - not bad!! Going to see cdc on Friday, so will be interested to see what shows up there. I am still using 4 portions a day, wondering whether I should reduce to 3? Think I could manage on 3, but what does anyone else think?

Take care x

ForcesSweetheart · 19/02/2007 12:12

Gawd I'm so crap at this! First morning and already I've caved in. Had shake for breakfast then off to toddler group with DD. Resisted the biscuits there, but as soon as we got home(about 10 minutes ago) I made a beeline for the fridge and wolfed down a bowl of spaghetti that was in there from last night (after nuking it of course). I have such poor self-control.
Gonna put DD down for her nap now and go for a nap myself, only way I can guarantee I won't eat more! Trying to convince myself that this doesn't mean the whole day is blown. Will try not to have anything now til my dinner shake tonight.

luciemule · 19/02/2007 15:30

Hi everyone - well I had a good day yesterday with no food but today I caved in at lunch time 'cause I was freezing and had a tin of healthy chicken soup and a bite or two of DS's bagel! Then I thought I'd better miss out lunch shake for being so naughty (I know I'm not supposed) and now I'm going on the exercise bike to burn off the soup! Then I'll have an evening shake. It is sooooo hard to not eat - specially when it's grey and gloomy and cold in the house. Had no energy to do anything with kids today, even though it's 1/2 term except my DD wanted to bake flapjack (painting would have been more slimming!!!) Don't worry Forces Sweetheart - it's really, really hard in the first week and I did crave carbs too. Now I only tend to crave healthy- ish things as the guilt kicks in otherwise.
Good luck everyone this week - Rebi, you're 7lbs loss was brilliant in only 6 days.
