How do you mean - lots of people at first seesion? Does your counsellor see lots of people at once then? I just make an appoinment with mine and go to her house, go into her kitchen where she weighs and measures me, have a quick chat, pick up new packs and leave. Maybe your does it as a group.

bendigoblue · 26/03/2007 16:49

I do a couple of things for motivation, one is put a £1 coin in a jar for every 1lb I lose, that way, I should have £119 in the jar by the time in a healthy BMI range, and I can buy myself a big treat! I also buy a trollbead for my trollbead bracelet for every stone I lose. Which reminds me, I haven't ordered my 4 stone one yet!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 26/03/2007 16:52

my cs said that her next introduction session is tonight at 7.30 so I assume there will be more than just me? Also can I choose what meals she gives me as listerning to you guys there are a few I would rather not have!

michaelad · 26/03/2007 19:29

Thanks for the tips, lucie! Will probably order a bit of a selection but stay well away from the broccoli and cheese one . My counsellor will drop them off on Wednesday and I will officially start Wednesday week. Really excited now, hope this one works. The wonderful support on here might just make all the difference!
Bendigo, love the idea of putting a £1 coin into a jar for every pound you lose.

my2kidsmum · 26/03/2007 19:36

LittleSoldiersMummy - yes, she gave me the first weeks meals when I signed up, but obviously I have to get the form signed before she gives me any more I guess.

As for motivation, I am currently living in two pairs of huge sized jeans which have seen better days, and 4 different jumpers. I have nothing else that fits. I have no clothes for the summer either. So... either I lose weight fast, or I have to go and buy hideous sized clothes which I don't like at all to wear!! My other motivation is coming on this thread - a lot! I've found today that just looking back over peoples successes is a great feeling, and I really, really look forward to adding my own - hopefully.

I have now finished my third meal on day one and it was the vanilla. I put water in the fridge earlier for it so that it would be nice and cold and it was very nice. I've drunk about 5 litres of water today (and been to the loo more times that I can count, but am feeling quite pleased with myself for not picking at the kids tea and remaining birthday cake for my DS.

Let us know how you get on tonight, will be good if you can start as we'll be getting through the first week together!

gtimama · 26/03/2007 21:26

Went back for my first weigh in today.

7 3/4 pounds DA DA

How proud am I?

Gonna keep going, got lots more to go.

my2kidsmum · 26/03/2007 22:31

Wow that's fantastic - well done!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 27/03/2007 09:23

Right well went to see my cs last night - she was really nice (which I am really happy about) got weighed and have put on half a stone this week as I have eat for england so am 24 stone even bigger so I have 12 stone to lose

My CS too gave me my first week and the form to get signed by my doc before I go back next week (I see the doc at 11.00 today )

So this morning is the morning I read all the little booklets last night put all my things in a line and here I go! I have drunk 2 pinks of water all ready this morning - because I am 5'10 I have 4 meals but need to drink 6 litres of water so I am 1 down 5 to go!

Will come back later to let you know how I am getting on I CAN DO THIS ! !

My DS is being sick also so that should take my mind off food lol!

oh also I now have the biggest motivation I told my Mum and Dad all about it last night and they told me they are very worried about my wieght and if I reach my goal - 15 stone and stay there or hopefully lose more for six months they will give mt 5k for our dream holiday to the seychelles (where my DH is from) so here I go !

joash · 27/03/2007 09:44

Only the second day - MAJOR HEADACHE - I take it this is normal then? I dont feel hungry and have realised how much of a habit eating was. Whenever I was a bit bored yesterday I found myself in the fridge, each time asking myself what the hell I was doing. Have to say though, that its fruit that I am missing. I would kill for an apple (is that sad or what?). Added to that, I've just made chilli for everyone elses tea and it smells nice .

michaelad · 27/03/2007 10:37

littlesoldiersmummy of course you can do it! And with that incentive! Seychelles..awwwww Can you dive?
gtimama great for having lost 7lbs already!
Like I said, I will start Wednesday week, will probably have to lose 3 stone and I soooo hope it works this time! So good to know that you're all out there attempting the same (and suceeding, by the look of things!).

michaelad · 27/03/2007 10:40

joash just had a look at your profile. My dh is a fantasy writer (nothing published yet but agent is working on it) and we're going on to Cornwall in June on our first ever proper family holiday!

catsmother · 27/03/2007 12:24

I had my Week (whatever, I've forgotten where up I'm to now) weigh-in this morning and have lost 4lbs, rather better than the 2lbs I seem to have been losing lately.

On my own digital scales at home I was 10 stone exactly this morning, but at the counsellor's I was 10st 2lbs. Allowing a pound for clothes, hers are always a pound more than mine !

Anyhow ..... that's 3st 7lbs lost if you go by her scales, so only another 9lbs to go to get to 9st 7lbs ..... the end is finally in sight.

I tried on quite a few old clothes last night. It felt really really weird to get them on, some with room to spare (pity a lot are looking old-fashioned though) ...... there I was, with the things on, but I couldn't actually believe it. I don't know about anyone else, but I think it will take me some time to accept the new shape & size I am, having been so used to being overweight for about 6 years. I'm hoping the moment of truth will finally arrive when I get to spend all the lovely gift vouchers I've been hoarding for years for "when I lose weight" ...... having heard it so often, I suspect my family never thought I'd do it. Well, a good number of them are going to be rather surprised when I turn up at my cousin's wedding in 4 weeks time.

An aside ........ has anyone else noticed any good side effects of drinking all this water. I can't say my skin is particularly wonderful, though I do think my cellulite has reduced considerably, but what I have noticed is that my lips look a lot plumper .... I always used to have what I thought were quite thin lips, but now they look so much better. Who'd have thought it - who needs collagen injections, when all you have to do is drink loads ?

OP posts:
joash · 27/03/2007 13:04

Been for a walk and the headache gone. Tried a strawberry drink and it's not too bad at all. Definately more drinkable than the choc.

michaelad - Tell your DH good luck with the potential publishing. My 'publications aren't as exiting as your DH's work. Mainly training packages and the odd textbook chapter. I hope the holiday goes well. I love Cornwall and we first came here for a holiday in 1996 and were immediately hooked - have you ever been to cornwall before?

luciemule · 27/03/2007 13:23

Everybody is doing so well - Catsmother you must feel fab. Know what you mean baout not being used to losing weight. I don't understand either how my mind will stop craving and eating the food I'm not supposed (ie the half tub humous I consumed last night). I just can't stop having that craving need - or is it just a mind thing do you reckon?
Little Soldiers mummy - what an amazing offer by your parents - you can't stop now.

bendigoblue · 27/03/2007 13:23

Hi Joash, the headaches are definately a symptom, its the carb withdrawl, you'll be fine in a couple of days. I'm just having a strawberry shake blended with ice, cold but yummy!

Catsmother - Well done!!!! What's your BMI now? Must be great!

fussymummy · 27/03/2007 13:52

I had the headaches on day 2 and also felt freezing cold!
This is quite normal.
So many of you have posted since i was last on!
Will catch up with you all later.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 27/03/2007 14:20

Ok half way through day one! have drunk 4 liters of water - have peed 3 liters of water

I keep thinking "what shall I have for dinner" then remembering no you can't eat although I am not hungry which is weird but thinking abour it I did spent so much time thinking what I was going to eat next!

My view is I just need to get through today then if I can get through today I can get through tomorrow and if I can do that I can make the week!

fussymummy · 27/03/2007 14:35

Thats a good way to be. just look at one day at a time.
Don't try to look at the whole picture because it could scare you off!

I try to focus on each 7lb or 1 stone.

If i started to think about my weight loss as a whole i'd be very scared!!!

It takes a bit of getting used to though and its good not always having to think what you want to eat!

my2kidsmum · 27/03/2007 15:31

I'm gutted. Went to the doctor and she refused to sign my form. She doesn't like these types of diets and as far as she is concerned I will put all the weight back on as soon as I stop. Her answer to my problem is to put me on Zenical (Which I don't particularly like the sound of at all) and send me to a dietician who apparantly will sort out my diet for me as to what I should be eating - well I know what the F**K I should be eating, and I also know that right now I have NO motivation to stick to a "normal" diet as I have lost the same 1 1/2 stone so many times I have lost count!!!

I'm so upset, I left the docs in tears and have hardly stopped since. I spent ages gearing myself up for this and now that;s it, it's over. I feel like I'm going to be fat and obese forever.

Sorry to go on, but I cannot begin to tell you how upset I am. All my hopes of having a better me for summer which I was so looking forward to to have disappeared. I know if I go back on food diets right now I'll fail again, and I'm so tired of failing.

Sorry, but thanks for letting me go on.

luciemule · 27/03/2007 16:38

I cannot believe your doctor - the reason she gave isn't even medical and I'm sure she can't refuse you just because she deosn't think you'll stick to it. She obviously doesn't know a lot about it!
Couldn't you book another appointment with another GP and take the booklet along and explain that you believe that this is the only way you can lose the weight? I think that's really blinkered of that doctor to say that. Stay strong though until you know for certain you can't do it. Unless there is a medical reason, perhaps another GP could sign it. Was that the only reason she said no? Tell her how much support you'll also get from this site too and what we've achieved. In fact, I'd make another appointment with the same woman and put over your story again - maybe take your DH or someone with you for morale support.
I really hope it works out.

luciemule · 27/03/2007 16:43

Forgot to say - it makes me mad that people (GP's too) look at people who need to lose weight and immediately think they eat a poor diet. I'm sure in some cases that might be true but look at thinner people and their diets too. My SIL in waif skinny and constantly eats choclate bars and fatty products (as well as healthier things) and she remains thin as a bean pole) but if they did a cholesterol test or blood sugar test - they'd probably be horrified! My DH too eats like a horse to put on weight (large bags of crisps/chocolate/pot noodles etc) but nobody says a thing to him as he looks thin. It's not just about what people eat that makes them overweight, it's more about why they overeat.

my2kidsmum · 27/03/2007 17:10

Trying to stay in the positive mood that I was in before my docs appt and not the negative one that is threatening me now!

So I have a plan - I was borderline on having to get the form signed anyway, so maybe if I lose enough in the first week my bmi would drop below 40 and then it wouldn't be a problem anyway???

What do you think?

catsmother · 27/03/2007 17:51

My2kidsmum - really sorry your doctor was so unsympathetic. I'd definitely try for a 2nd opinion before you give up on the idea of CD. Did you explain to the doctor that part of the whole CD experience is NOT just getting to a healthy weight, but also maintaining it ? ..... that you will at some stage gradually re-introduce food, increasing your calorie intake bit by bit, until it's clear what YOUR personal daily calorie intake should be in order that your weight remains stable. She hardly needed to point out that if you went back to your old eating habits, you'd put weight back on - as if you didn't know that. In any case, the same is true of ANY diet ....

... I think the difference with CD is that it probably motivates a dieter far more to stick to it because the results are seen far more quickly. Then, because you are eating replacement meals, you aren't tempted (too much) to have a little "extra", and personally, I have found, to my surprise, that my longings for chocolate (which I used to eat loads of) have been replaced instead by longings for savoury things ..... I am hoping this continues obviously. I believe that when I reach goal, which should hopefully be very soon (and which I have never achieved before on any other diet), I will be so bowled over that no way will I want to sabotage my investment by overeating again. As much as possible I intend to eat healthily but I won't deny myself treats either ... just not so many and not so much ! I also intend to keep an eye on my weight and tackle it if and when I get to half a stone more than I want to be (a few weeks cutting back) ..... not wait until I am stones more.

I'd have thought that so far as a doctor is concerned they wouln't mind how people lost weight (so long as it wasn't something ridiculously stupid like taking speed) because the end result is a far healthier patient far less likely to need NHS help in all sorts of areas ! I expect that in reality she knows diddly squat about CD and has only ever "heard of" it, as opposed to actually knowing all about it and knowing that it is nutritionally balanced.

Littlesoldiersmummy - one day at a time is definitely the way to approach this !

And Bendigo, my BMI is now 22.6 ...... it was 33.1 at the very end of November when I started.

OP posts:
michaelad · 27/03/2007 17:57

my2kidsmum I can believe that your GP refuses to sign your form saying it's not a good diet to go on and then proceeds to prescribe you Xenical. That is ridiculous!! If you don't find someone else to sign your form, maybe you could buy CD packs on places like Ebay and keep doing it until your BMI is low enough for you to not need the form anymore?! Not that I'm advertising going through the back door...just makes me really angry!
And luciemule for me the problem is definitely WHY I eat not WHAT I eat.
joash No, first time ever in Cornwall! Can't wait since I have heard so much about the place!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 27/03/2007 18:58

AHHH that makes me mad thank god my Doc was all for it she has had a few patients who have done the diet and come out the other end. Its crazy that this women can control what you want to do like that!

So your BMI was 42 how much it weight terms is 2??? if you work really hard at it this week I reckon you could do, why dont you ring your CS and see what they say?

Ohhh and all I came on to was moan! but at least I have the chance!

Well back to my moan I have just cooked dinner for my DS and DH (different meals as DS is unwell) also cooked DH lunch and dinner for tomorrow - He wants Tuna pasta for both what I found really hard was not tasting the food to see if the seasoning was right it was odd as I always taste the food I cook!

Right wondering can I put pepper on the soup?

There me done am doing all right back to work tomorrow which I think will make it easier oh and I have drunk my 6 liters of water all ready so hopefully no getting up in the night
