I know exactly what you mean - I look at myself in the mirror and think - oh god I'm still fat, although when I stand there longer, I think -no actually I'm quite slim but can't get used to the idea. It's almost like when I look in the mirror I see what was there 7 weeks ago and can't get into now gear.
I'm now finding clothes a nightmare - 14 too big, 12 fit around the waist but too tight on thigh still! So am wearing a mixture of too big clothing sitting procariously on hips until thighs slim enough to get thoses 12's.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 21/03/2007 10:10

Hi All, I was thinking about doing SW but after reading through your whole thread and with the amount I have to lose I have decided to give CD a go!

I am 23 stone 7 so have about 12 stone to lose to get back to fighting weight although I would be more than happy at 13 stone!

So I am going to my c on Monday night - She replied to my email in less than 15 mins so really impressed with her!

So I hope you dont mind me joining your thread as i know I will need all of your support to get this dont but I so want to lose this weight - I was big before i had my DS 15 stone and but on 6.5 having him then over the last two year I have put on the extra 2 stone - I must me the only person to go in to hospital have a baby come out the next day a pounds bigger!

fussymummy · 21/03/2007 10:13

laughinglil that's fab to hear that you've managed to keep the weight off. Well done.

luciemule I want your diet!!!!
Mini eggs sound yum, but can't seem to find them in the cambridge book!!!!!!

Bendigo I think you need glasses if you can't see your weight loss!!!!
Your face looks different, look at the shape.
In fact your whole body has changed.
Do you still have the outfit from the first pic?
If so, put it on and i'm sure you'll see the difference.

Catsmother to have a 2lb loss with only 12lb to go is great.
All losses slow down as you get closer to goal.
As for clothes, last time i went to buy some new tops, i still picked up my old size and couldn't work out why they felt so big when i tried them on!!!
Think i was having a 'thick' moment!!!!

I'm still dreading my weigh in tomorrow, not had a good week at all.
Never mind, this happens on all diets so i won't be disheartened by it, will just continue as before!

fussymummy · 21/03/2007 10:18

Thelittlesoldiersmummy Welcome, so glad you decided to join us all.

A decision you won't regret.

You'll do so well and get loads of support on here as well.

luciemule · 21/03/2007 11:18

Thelittlesoldiersmummy - hello and welcome.
You'll be fine and it's good that you sound really positive. What does DH think about you doing it? Will he be supportive? To start with my DH just kept saying (from Afghanistan) "I love you just the way you are" etc...and it was absolutely no help whatsoever. He really thought he was helping by being so kind but actually, now he's realised that I need him to go along with me and tell me to keep going as I've explained that as he keeps saying you look fine as you are - I'll keep on eating!!! Once he gets back from tour (June) he's going to support me with the toning up bit too - he'll keep saying stuff like "you haven't been on your exercise bike tonight have you?" or "shall I hold your feet while you do sit ups?" But that's the sort of thing I need or I'll just sit and tv all night!
Anyway - good luck - post baby is a great time to start and you'll be too busy with the kids to want to eat.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 21/03/2007 11:27

My DH is a big boy too 20 stone he said it was a far to much money and we cant afford it and that i wont stick to it but I said I really need to do this then yesterday he sat me down and said he was behind me - he is going to have chicken and salad for dinner every night so i wont feel so bad (that is his suggestion and thats what he did before me had DS to lose weight) I am looking forward to getting started although i must admit I am eating for England this week

catsmother · 21/03/2007 12:25

Hi LSM. Okay - it does seem like a lot of money, but I rationalise it by what I'm NOT eating. I'm not buying lots of chocolate for a start, and meals out, takeaways etc are also all off the menu for me. I don't demand that my family doesn't indulge, so they do occasionally, but not as often as before I went on this diet, so we're saving money there.

Obviously, there's also my share of the normal weekly food bill, which doesn't now have to be bought. Maybe not quite £32.50 a week, but when you also add in the eating out we might have done, it's pretty close.

I'm glad your partner is now being more positive about it ........ good luck !

Just been to weigh and in I've lost 3lbs! I'm amazed - must be the mini eggs that did it!!! I put on 5cm on waist though but lost another 5 off hips so the fat must have moved!
She did tell me that you can make muffins with the dweet flavour mixes so I'm off to try with my lunch shake. I've just looked on the cambridgedieters website and it says:
add a couple of desert spoons of boiling/just off the boil water with a pack and mix until it looks like it's too thick. Then put it in MW for a couple of minutes, watching it doesn't burn. Will go and try and let you know how it goes - imagine........ living off muffins!

luciemule · 21/03/2007 16:21

Ok - so don't rush into the kitchen just yet! Just tried the 'muffin' making and although it did kind of resemble a chocolate muffin (if you had your eyes shut!), the taste was nothing like anything on earth. No - I'm not overexaggerating. Perhaps you're supposed to add a couple of sweetners or something, or (b)just go and eat a normal muffin!
It worked how they said it was supposed to but I had to add more than 2 dessert spoons of water to make it a paste. The crisps sounded like a better idea. I think though I'll just stick to my choc'n'mint shakes 3 times a day.

Landoni112 · 21/03/2007 16:55

bendigoblue you look amazing, congratulations!
catsmother 2lbs off is still great, I have been on loads of diets of 1,200 cals or less where I have stayed the same some weeks, or evne put on, so -2lbs is great ( and you never know next week a whole load might come off!) It must be so wonderful to be so close...

I can wait to have some of your success!

Landoni112 · 21/03/2007 17:01

ps all in 10 weeks bendigoblue WOW!

Devonshire · 21/03/2007 19:02

aaaaaggghhh, i have just eaten 4 pieces of ham, 2 of garlic bread and a bit of gingerbread. i don't even like ham!!!!!

this is the first time i have fallen off the wagon at all in 5 weeks and its cos i feel really ill today, i have put my back out and for some reason i have an achey tummy, like i have trapped air in my stomach and the thought of having CD stuff to eat makes me gag today. and to make it worse, i am starving with a capital SSSSSSS.

i am so tempted to make something i actually like, like honey on toast so i can cheat and enjoy it but will i have to go back through that shitey getting into ketosis crap?? i am just thanking god we have no chocolate in the house...

i lost another 3lbs this week taking me to 26lbs off so far but my resistance is so low...

how do you girls who occasionally eat find the after effects?

luciemule · 21/03/2007 21:02

Hi Devonshire - ohhh I really feel for you. I really LOL when you said "and I don't even like ham"!
Tonight I stood and made a lvoely fish pie for DCs who looked at it and turned their noses up (I could have guessed that) so what did I do? - thought to myself I'd have a post-weigh in treat meal and now I have a really bad tummy ache and feel quite sickly.
I have to admit, I'm hardly ever in ketosis I reckon as I don't that crap feeling you mentioned after stopping eating. I'm probably just having enough to keep me burning fat but not getting the awful feeling to go with it. If I cheat too much (ie - have more like a proper meal with carbs) I feel terrible afterwards. So I tend to cheat little and often! I've just read that back and I'm so useless at this diet. But at least the theory of not eating food is keeping me more on track than if I was actually doing a food eatong diet, like weight watchers. You're doing fine and just nibble tiny things if you really need to (handful of cheerios for example). I think as well, if you're ill, although the shakes have 100% daily vits and nutrients, they don't have all the good oils/fruit enzymes and the like that would make you feel better from eating certain foods. Does anyone agree? Or do the shakes contain all those things?

Devonshire · 21/03/2007 21:16

thanks for your support luciemule, and i too thought it was funny and ridiculous that i ate ham! and i remember you saying when you were unwell that you couldn't face CD either...its not exactly appetising is it?

however, i then went on to eat a small bowl of pasta and pesto which was lovely but i feel even worse now!!! very bloated after no carbs for 5 weeks!

i have (almost) decided to give up CD now. the thought of eating those shakes etc for another 3 months is GROSS! i do worry that i will binge before i restart a diet though and put on lbs of glycogen and water.

the thing i will carry on with is the water as my skin is clearer than in years.

am still mulling it over, and am very tempted to go and buy a bar of choclate to help the mulling over proces...HA!!!

luciemule · 21/03/2007 21:37

Devonshire - if I can do it - so can you (and I'm famous for giving up on things).
I needed something this severe to make me lose weight but I've come to the conclusion that food is one BIGGGGG problem in my head (I didn't realise just how big until I stopped eating). I wasn't huge and had only 3 stone to lose but to me, it was years of over eating to comfort myself and worry away my problems that made it into an addiction. It wasn't being hungry for food it was needing the taste of some foods to make me feel better.
I'd think "I'm feeling a bit low, I know what will make me feel better - a bowl of crunchy nut". Now though, I'm not eating at night at all (probably 'cause I've found Mumsnet and nothing to do with the diet!)and really believe that once I finish the diet, I won't eat just because I want to but because it's meal time and I'll need to feed my body.
Whatever you choose - there are so many other ways to lose weight and eat healthily without putting yourself through the shake torture (if that's how you see them?)
I thought it's be easier without my DH here for 6 months but actually I'd be sticking to it more if he was here!
How much more do you have to lose now?

fussymummy · 22/03/2007 12:35

Hi everyone, i got weighed this morning and have actually lost 1 1/4 lbs.

I really don't know how, and i was so surprised!

Thats now a total of 38 1/4 lbs in 11 weeks.

luciemule · 22/03/2007 13:33

is that a stone and 1/4 or 1lb 1/4 in a week? I couldn't tell from your post if you're happy or not!

my2kidsmum · 22/03/2007 14:29

OMG, I've finally done it - after weeks at looking at threads on here and the CD website I've finally rang and left a message for the counsellor to phone me. I don't know if I feel excited or terrified!!!

So... can I join you guys please?

michaelad · 22/03/2007 20:05

Hiya everyone, I am considering joining "your club" by signing up for CD but would love to know what the longterm success rate is. No use if I inevitably put on all the weight again as soon as I start on "normal" foods.. so, anyone out there who has kept off the weight?

luciemule · 22/03/2007 21:44

welcome my2kids and michaelad - good for you for joining the CD.
With regards to the putting weight back on issue - the website/book says that there's no evidence that losing weight very quickly means you will put it back on quickly and that the key to sustaining your success is the maintenance programme. Basically they're saying if you eat like you did before, yes, you'll put it back on but with lowering your calorie intake and then once you've reached your target, increasing the calories slowly until you can work out how many cals your body needs a day, then you'll stay at your desired weight.
I've had a bad day today - baked healthy muffins for friends coming around, then ate 2 of them (secretly once they'd left!) So I've only had one shake today - not a good start to my "I'm going to lose 4lbs this week" day.
Anyway - you'll both do great I'm sure -my willpower hasn't yet completely kicked in and as soon as I do well, I give myself 'time off' for good behaviour! Not a good thing - but by Saturday, I plan to be back in ketosis and well on the way to losing those all important 4!

michaelad · 22/03/2007 21:48

Ketosis..same thing the Atkins diet works with.Doesn't that have some nasty side effects like bad breath etc.?

michaelad · 22/03/2007 21:51

Can I set my own target weight or is it based on BMI? Am 5ft6, 200 lbs and would probably be quite happy to only lose 2-3 stone.

luciemule · 22/03/2007 21:54

hi - as long as you drink your 3/4 shakes you should only be going into mild ketosis (making sure you drink the recommended amount of water or more) so shouldn't feel too bad once you're into it. I felt shakey/nauseous and had cramping but instead of drinking a glass of water, I ate an apple and a slice of bread - then I felt better but went straight back out of ketosis! Found that if you drink plenty and brush your teeth regularly (probably 3/4 times instead of 2) bad breath shouldn't be a problem. It makes your mouth taste a bit nothing-y really. Have you done the Atkins diet then?

luciemule · 22/03/2007 21:56

It's based on BMI (I'm 5ft 5 1/2") and my target weight is 10 stone. You can choose a bmi within the healthy range so she told me the range and suggested 10 stone and I thought - no way - that can't be possible. It's seemed a bit surreal really. So I've got just under 3 stone to lose and have 18lbs left to go (less the muffins today!!!)

michaelad · 22/03/2007 21:56

Yes, but only for about a month, went on holiday after that, fell off the wagon and never really got back on. At the time, it really worked for me though.
And then I fell pregnant with ds2..
