fantastic juuule, hope that will be me next week, how have you coped with it?

how much do you want to lose,

juuule · 13/01/2007 20:04

No reason that it won't be you next week, Snow. In fact, some people have lost a lot more in the first week than I have so you never know...
I haven't found it too difficult, although the first few days I surprised myself just how many times I picked up food and ate it with out realising. I'm struggling a bit with eating habits rather than hunger. Also, I've had a bad taste in my mouth for the last 3 days so the water has another benefit by rinsing my mouth.
Get stuck in and this time next week, you'll be smiling.

snowwonder · 13/01/2007 20:10

i think the bad taste in your mouth is the ketones, can you use mouth wash? or further down the thread someone said they were alowed mints

meb2006 · 13/01/2007 21:26

I am on day 5 - still starving. Lost 4 lb only so still disappointing really - I do remember that I never lost much last time at first - I do know that it is coming off more then that though even if it does n't show on scales - sometime in week 2/3 lots just comes off on scales.

snowwonder although you have to cook for your kids I would make sure there is no food out on view all day - we usually have cakes etc out on show and now these are in the cupboard so I don't have to look at them all day!

snowwonder · 13/01/2007 21:52

have you been on the cambridge diet home page at the bottom there is chat room link, it is brill to get some motivation from, and support

keep going it will be so worth it, how much did you lose last time round?

meb2006 · 13/01/2007 22:02

over 6 stone on LL (very similar) not religiously but in fits and starts (which is not the way to do it). It is just a very long haul when you are at the beginning - when you get to the end you feel like it has happened very quickly! Will have a look at the site - thanks.

snowwonder · 13/01/2007 22:06

, i just looked further down the thread and see we are of similar weights, i am 15 stone, at my heaviest i was 17.5 but lost 2.5 stone through healthy eating..
i am 30 years old and live in milton keynes,
do you go out to work? i do in the mornings and i am sure that will help at least half of the day has gone by the time i am home going to save all my packs to have afternoon and evening

bendigoblue · 13/01/2007 22:26

I haven't found it too bad cooking for the family so far, I just keep busy doing the washing or something while they eat it lol.

It does seem like a huge mountain at the moment, and I worry about getting to the other end, I read somewhere that as you weigh less your body needs less calories to function, something like 150 calories per stone lost. So if I lost 8 stone, that would be 1200 calories less in the day, that can't be right can it? I keep thinking i'm never going to be able to have a treat again without putting the whole lot back on.

Sorry, you can tell it's day 4 can't you, feeling a bit down.

Does anyone know if theres any calorie difference between the shakes and the soups? My counsellor advised me to bring home 7 soups and 14 shakes, but i'm thinking i'd much rather have 14 soups and 7 shakes, can I do that?

snowwonder · 13/01/2007 22:33

i thought they were all roughly the same in calories, i would ring her and get them changed if it is not what you want you might fall off easier, mine told me to ring and change any i didnt like,
i got a soup for everyday - oriental chilli
and 2 milkshakes which i am going to half so i can have them throughout the day to keep me going,

try to think that after this journey of no food, you will realise how far you have come and you will never want to go there again, my friend at work lost lots of weight and we get weighed at work on a thursday. if she puts on a few pound she cuts back for afew days and she is fine, and hopefully our stomach will shrink as well so we cant eat as much

i know for sure i dont want to be at this weight again but i am aware i have a bad relationship with food, that has to be delt with i am considering hypnotism..

snowwonder · 13/01/2007 22:33

i am thinking of having my soup in a bowl when others have there evening meal

meb2006 · 13/01/2007 23:21

I have mine in a bowl but not when others are eating - find it too difficult. Veg soup is a bit yuk - I water it down in bowls and it makes about 5 bowls - with lots of black pepper and tabasco. When you can have the veg savoury flavourings (week 2) you can have lots of cups of this - it is like a fantastic bonus.

I cant seem to eat with others - we went to restaurant with friends today and I had lots of "oh just have a salad" etc - there was some serious wavering going on!

I know the bars are more (which is why you can only have 1 a day) but I have never heard there being any difference between soups and shakes. Have what you like! I am sure the counsellor can tell you about calorific intake. Your counsellor may have suggested 7 soups and 14 shakes as shakes generally easier to get down.

bendigoblue As to the bit
"as you weigh less your body needs less calories to function, something like 150 calories per stone lost. So if I lost 8 stone, that would be 1200 calories less..."
it may be correct - that is just to maintain current weight. So, for example, someone of 18 stone could eat 3000 calories a day and stay stable. If you we say 10 stone then (I am just picking a number out of the air) 1400 calories maybe sufficient. This does n't mean you can never have a treat though -this is just a general guide for every day - if you have a takeway once a week at target weight I am sure this wil be fine just not 5 times a week. Also you will be able to do a lot more in the way of exercise when smaller and eat more (at least I know I did when I was slim).

snowwonder
I am nearer 40 then 30 (Yipes!)and in London. Still on maternity leave for next 2 months then back to work - I do think it is easier to diet when at work - if at home all day I find myself thinking about food lots!

bendigoblue · 13/01/2007 23:28

Meb2006 Thanks for that, I know it's just my chatterbox trying to talk me off the diet, it's nice to have people motivating you on. Well done you for not wavering and having the salad! I think i'd rather have a soup than a salad anyway, not one for rabbit food me anyway, probably how I ended up like this in the first place!

I often wonder if my weight would be different if I wasn't at home all day with the kids, its so easy just to pick all day without thinking about it.

meb2006 · 13/01/2007 23:33

I know - I have even resorted to having some of my babies food when I feed her - you know one for me and one for you - I have a few spoons of the dessert!!!!!

I am sure keeping busy is a good contribution to this.

bendigoblue · 13/01/2007 23:37

I think you're right, my house has never been so clean!

meb2006 · 13/01/2007 23:49

I am off to bed now and when I wake it will be Day 6. It is a lot like going to sleep the night before Christmas though not as exciting (ha ha!)

sweet dreams.

meb2006 · 14/01/2007 16:29

where is everyone? I am starving...I need someone to sit on my hands!

bendigoblue · 14/01/2007 16:44

I'm craving a nice sunday roast

moonshine · 14/01/2007 16:58

Don't eat! Have some water (fizzy is good for filling you up more I think), another pack, or split them, have some now and some later. I must admit I cooked a roast and brownies today and was salivating all over the kitchen. But you got to think what would happen if you did eat. It would be plesurable for a few minutes, then you'd feel 1000 times worse and have to get back into ketosis. You're both doing so well! And tomorrow you will probably be at least under 0.5 pound lighter.

snowwonder · 14/01/2007 16:58

day one has been ok so far, had half a banana milkshake for brekkie then we went swimming, then chilli soup for lunch girls also had soup so that was fine, actually the soup was delicious, would have been nicer with crusty bread but hey!!!!!
i am saving one for when girls are in bed as that is my worse time to eat, i am going to have a hot chocolate and really looking foward to getting the first day over!!!

just made girls sausage mash, carrots abd broccoli, i could have easily ate it but it didnt bother me that much,

i have also taken pain killers to keep the headaches at bay because i am sure i would give in if i had a really bad head.

i dont understand that if you can have coke zero then why cant you put a splash of squash in to the water, is it only because they want you to buy the flavourings?

moonshine · 14/01/2007 17:00

Squash probably has citric acid in it which could knock you out of ketosis but coke zero doesn't.

snowwonder · 14/01/2007 17:12

wow i didnt realise that a fizzy drink without the acid in, thanks moonshine

bendigoblue · 14/01/2007 17:34

I'm flagging badly, feeling really down about the prospect of doing this for months on end. Someone cheer me up please!

meb2006 · 14/01/2007 17:53

so can you "officially" have coke zero? and if so how much? This sounds too good to be true.

snowwonder · 14/01/2007 17:55

have you written down all the reasons you want to be slim?

i have made a chart to tick off the days i am on the diet, i have also started a diary,

have you been onn the cambridge diet home page at the bottom is a chat room with some great success stories- might motivate you

snowwonder · 14/01/2007 17:57

meb 2006 i saw they were having it on the cambridge chat room, some people it does make them more hungry though to have coke, - not me though i love my diet coke. i will now try the coke zero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
