Does anyone want to join me in losing weight for the last time?

About three years ago I weighed 13 stone, and out of nowhere I found the motivation to go down to 9 and a half stone in a year. Since then, it's gone up and down, mostly up and now I'm back up to almost 12 stone.

So I've decided now is the time to find that motivation again and lose all this weight - for the last time. No more putting it back on!

Start Weight: 11st 12lb
Height: 5'2
Goal Weight: 9st 7lb

Does anyone want to join me? I think I'd do so much better if there were a group of us all waiting to hear how the others had done and give each other plenty of support.

I'm tired of being the "big friend" and just want to be comfortable in my own skin. I've got a holiday booked in June that I'd love to be confident enough for to get all my old bikinis back out, so my first little goal is to have lost a good half a stone by then!

Here is some imaginary Cake to bribe you all to come and join me.

Yes yes yes ichoose, definitely do it! The first runs are literally a few goes at about 1.5 minutes, with the same again to recover. I used to have the same problem, I'd decide to take up running, then get out the door and go haring off like Usain Bolt, get all out of breath by the time I'd got to the end of the road, limp shamefacedly home, and be too disheartened to try again for the next ten weeks.

I got my fitness up to 5K (on a treadmill) a couple of years ago and went around like a dog with two tails I was so proud of myself. But I overdid it, got shin splints, gave up for several months, and now I'm back to not being able to run for more than three sodding minutes at a stretch Angry So you can't be more unfit than me, and even I at one time could do a 5K!

I've just had a look on the app now which has been on my phone for god knows how long it looks really good and motivating. I think that's what I need is something telling me when to start and stop instead of trying to just run for a song and walk for a song. Doesn't help when you listen to paradise by the Dashboard light and then Budapest Blush

QuimReaper · 21/04/2016 13:36

Haha ichoosesleep Grin

If it helps at all, I like to listen to something more engrossing than music to distract myself, like a podcast or audiobook, so I use an app called "5K runner" which you can set to just ding when you have to start running and double-ding when you start walking, so you don't get interrupted the whole time by the coaching.

I know for other people the coaching is part of the experience though, and really love the little prompts like "halfway there now, you're doing great!"

NightWanderer · 21/04/2016 13:48

I'd like to join too, if that's ok?

I need to weigh myself but I never lost the baby weight and the baby is now 2. I'm also interested in couch to 5km.

ichoosesleep · 21/04/2016 15:54

Hi nightwanderer Smile
Ooh I've been thinking about looking for audiobooks lately I've never ever listened to one before. Can you literally get any books you want or is it limited choice? Where's best place to download them from?

Today's going ok ish.

Avacado on toast with egg

Remember the lasagne I made he other day well I had some leftover in Tupperware so had that for lunch

Haven't walked much but had a nap
(Hence the username Confused)

Could really do with upping my steps and just having a bowl of chilli for tea. Think I only have 400 calories left

QuimReaper · 21/04/2016 18:12

ichoose I get mine from Audible - it's £7.99 a month subscription for one credit, with which you can buy any book, so I use them to get the huge ones which retail at about £30! Not every single book has been recorded, but there's a vast selection. They offer a free trial as well, so you could give it a whirl and see how you like it. Also if you're hating a book you can return it and try something else for your credit. They also have lots of flash sales so you can pick up a bargain for a couple of quid if you see something you like, and save it up for when your credits run dry. For me, mixed in with podcasts I find one credit plenty. Had two in the bank a few days ago month actually!

applejack18 · 21/04/2016 18:15

Hi all and welcome night wanderer
Time of the month for me today combined with 3 hours shopping with dc Hmmwhich probably explains why I ate pizza with them for dinner instead of the salmon I had planned. It was homemade of sorts (a rough version of nigella express) so hopefully not as unhealthy as a takeaway.
Coffee with milk - Greek yoghurt with blueberries and walnuts
Romaine lettuce wrap of Spinach, tahini, hummus, 5 falafel, roasted aubergine and roasted pepper
Some beef and sweet potato stew (tasting as I cooked)
"Pizza" made from plain naan, ketchup, mushrooms, mozzarella, cheddar.
Cucumber

Hellooooo anybody there?!
Haven't posted for a few days and couldn't weigh Saturday as I was away all weekend, which was very nice and not too calorific. Had a couple of big evening meals but ate very little the rest of the time and did lots of walking.

So I weighed this morning and I've lost 1.8 pounds since last Saturday bringing me to 10.7.2. (I really like to include the decimal points Grin)
Hope everyone is ok.

shovetheholly · 25/04/2016 09:32

Congratulations applejack! You're doing really well.

I tried Eat Water's Slim Rice from Holland and Barrett this weekend. I recommend it heartily as a diet food - it's so revolting you won't eat ANY of it!!

NightWanderer · 26/04/2016 01:38

I finally weighed myself, and I was 87kg. I'm ok with that as I was 88/89kg forever. I'm also at my heaviest now, just before my period.

I'm just trying to eat more veg, drink more water, and eat less sugar. I'm doing ok. I'm a mindless grazer.

shovetheholly · 26/04/2016 07:26

nightwanderer - I find I lose about 2-3lbs on day 3 of my period. I think it must be the water retention subsiding!!

applejack18 · 26/04/2016 08:06

Thank you shovetheholly !
Shame about the slimrice. Sounds like when I tried butternut squash and courgette "spaghetti" last week (from Tesco on offer). Was ok but not delicious. Won't buy again. I can't be bothered to do fake stuff. Would rather eat normal carbs and watch the portion size and frequency etc.

Nightwanderer your plan sounds really good - I'm 3 weeks in but it feels like so much longer as it's a full time thing trying to choose carefully or correct any wobbles. I'm nearly 40 and for all my life I've always just eaten whatever I wanted (and been overweight!). So it's a MASSIVE life adjustment to be monitoring food almost 7 days a week! Well, never too late for this wake up call. This is probably how slim healthy people live all the time! (I blame my parents for setting the poor example in the first place Grin). Determined to break the cycle and bring up own dds to exercise self control and mindfulness as par for the course. Thankfully it helps that DH already has done this all his life.
End of ramble. Have a great day everyone!

shovetheholly · 28/04/2016 08:57

I am hitting a bit of a plateau. I am sticking to my calorie limits, which are really quite strict, but the weight isn't coming off. I know that I'm just being impatient, but FOR GOD'S SAKE WHEN IS THE SCALE GOING TO START GOING DOWN AGAIN??! Grin

applejack18 · 28/04/2016 09:44

Hi shove. I can see that is so annoying but I imagine it will happen eventually but in fits and starts.
2 weeks ago I stayed the same but the following week lost nearly 2 pounds so I lost a pound a week but both pounds came off at the end of 2 weeks.
So you might get a big whoosh. Also there's that theory of doing something drastic to shake things up with the metabolism eg a big meal then a fast or the other way round. Or drink more water, more activity ...
I have come down with a really stinky cold [shakes fist angrily at crap British weather] and am eating salty carbs and def can't do gym so my healthy norm is on pause till I get well again so this week I imagine I may stay the same or gain.

shovetheholly · 28/04/2016 10:11

Me too - awful cold here! My head is aching like nothing on earth. We need some warmth and some sun!! Feel better soon!

I know you're right... my body is subject to the laws of physics, same as everything else. Logically, I can't consume less energy than I burn and stay the same weight. I'm just being impatient! I'm hoping for a big whoosh (love that phrase) soon.

shovetheholly · 29/04/2016 10:02

How are you feeling today apple? Hope you're getting better.

applejack18 · 29/04/2016 12:22

Thank you shove. I'm feeling dreadful Sad - sore sinuses and dizzy. Feeling a bit sorry for myself as it's difficult to rest with young dcs and working freelance/self employed so major pressure to keep plodding on. That's the self pity done and out the way. I need to get an enormous grip and get on with it!
How are you?

shovetheholly · 29/04/2016 12:28

Oh, you poor thing! It's typical on the leadup to a bank holiday too! IAnd don't be hard on yourself - it's so tough when your body is telling you to rest, and your life won't allow it. Hope you feel way better soon, and be gentle to yourself (well, as much as you can) in the meantime Flowers

applejack18 · 01/05/2016 10:22

Thank you so much Shove for your lovely kind words - really really nice to get a boost from cyberspace Grin
Still not feeling right and sinuses are up and down but still blocked and also that yucky nasal drip thing so gross!
Anyhoo. I'm not weighing in this weekend as I don't want to feel demotivated so my plan is that when I'm better I will do a week back on plan then resume weighing etc.
Hope you have a lovely rest of weekend and mild weather too Smile

Tillibean · 02/05/2016 14:57

Can I join please? I have lost two stone last year and maintained this year but really want to lose more. Smile

Tillibean · 02/05/2016 15:00

I'm did Paul McKenna years and years ago and it has always stayed with me. Eat till satisfied, eat what you really want. I got to a place where I make healthy food choices because I want to so now it's Paul in my head and lots of clean eating.

shovetheholly · 03/05/2016 09:17

How are you doing now applejack? Hope you're feeling better.

I had a weekend of overindulging while feeling slightly sorry for myself due to coldiness. I am not looking forward to the reckoning with the scales. Back on the veg juice for brekkie today. Sad

Hey tilli - interesting to hear about Paul McKenna. I think working on your head helps - I'm reading the Beck Diet book and it definitely is keeping me on track.

journeyon · 10/05/2016 07:53

Morning all, can I join? Also want this time to be the last, another short one! 5 foot 1, start weight 29/4/ - 11stone 10, 6/5/ - 11 stone 7. Using fitbit, mfp and trying to get a swim in. Goal weight 9stone which is around healthy bmi. Attempted week 1 c25k last night was not a pretty sight! Also target of 1200 steps a day, walking to and from work

shovetheholly · 10/05/2016 09:58

Hey journey and tilibean!

I fell of the wagon on a MAJOR way this last weekend - a combination of stress (public speaking) and having house guests for 4 days, and lots and lots of meals out. But I read in the Beck Diet book that the worst thing you can do after an episode like that is simply to give up, and that the difference between failed dieters and those who make it is often about how they recover from failures. So I'm back on the spinach smoothies this morning!

One thing I really, really need to do is to make more of an effort at my fitness. I get so tired at the moment, though. A short run just knackers me. So I know what you mean about c25k journey!

applejack18 · 10/05/2016 22:01

Hi Shove I'm back!!! Hello tilli and journey !

My virus really dragged on and I'm still not fully right (don't have energy for gym which is bloody annoying as I'm paying but hey ho)
I've been off the wagon for 2.5 weeks and the results aren't pretty. Bloody annoying in fact. Upshot is that I now weigh more than when I joined the thread. Bloody hell!!! When I told DH this yesterday, he shrugged and said "well you know what you've got to do then". It wasn't harsh but it was bang on accurate. Mentally I'm back in the "zone" and I echo what you say shove about not letting an episode make you give up.
My last weight in the right direction was 10.7 and goodness knows when I will get back to that again as I weighed bloody 10.11 this morning! To repeat the cliche - it's a marathon not a sprint...
So glad to have your company guys!!
