I have yoyoed with the same stone since the beginning of last year. Getting fed up now but need some motivation to stick with it. Anyone else in the same boat? I'm so near yet so far!

Will be weighing in tomorrow and posting all food eaten. Feel free to join me!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

I didn't do too badly, had wine as we went over to BIL for the weekend, but only had about a quarter of a bottle. Had croissants for breakfast, well, a pain aux raisins and walnut, it was good! Those were the only treats, had lots of salads and veg.

Went for three long walks too as the weather was decent.

Haven't weighed this morning, will do so tomorrow. Feel a bit thinner though, ha!

Twinklestar2 · 07/03/2016 16:02

Menu so far:

Couple of Belvita breakfast biscuits and a coffee before I left the house. I know I am having two breakfasts but I can’t leave the house without eating and I need something I can grab and run!
Porridge oats and ss milk at work
Falafels, houmous, olives and salad.

Feel really full!

I might just have soup for dinner…

Hi Twinkle,

Yes, about a stone will have to go for me to fit comfortably into my clothes again Blush. Thing is, I really like all my old clothes, so that is motivation of sorts! At the moment I can only really fit into a few things, and I am getting very bored of always wearing the same clothes.

Today I had porridge at work (the quaker microwaveable ones) for breakfast (with ss milk, but two packets, because I cycle to work and am starving by the time I get there), and then tuscany bean soup and an apple for lunch, and am now considering the options for dinner. Trying to not reach for the half-full bottle of red wine...

Hope you are all having a good start to the week!

anothermadamebutterfly · 07/03/2016 20:02

Incidentally, somebody told me a few weeks ago that the average women (don't know about men) at any given time can't fit into about 50% of the clothes she has in her wardrobe. Don't know if it is true, but I know lots of women this applies to! You can't help loving the (deluded) optimism.

AuntieStella · 07/03/2016 20:26

Ugh I've eaten too much this evening, but not by much (children's leftovers; do a I need to use washing up liquid?) But I'm reasonably sure I'm still OK over a whole week.

But I'm going out for lunch later this week, and wanted to have run up a deficit in advance so I could chose what I wanted to eat (not what I think I should eat).

I'm wondering if I can manage a day or two of really low consumption. Anyine tried, and if so, what got you through?

magicaltoaster · 07/03/2016 20:26

Can i join the thread late please? sorry not up to date with everthing, but in the same situation. Carrying an extra stone from persistant binging and trouble with bulimia. Determined to get healthy, and stop binging and purging. Current weight is 9'7 but my ideal weight is 8'7. Today i started well with green tea and museli (should of done excercise dvd but too lazy). Unfortunatly binged on malteezers half way through the day, which let to over eating bread etc. writing that off i did pretty well with tea, a quinoa, feta, green bean and avocado salad. If i can avoid snacks tonight and exercise tomorrow i should be on the way :) Good luck everyone, hope you've all had a healthy/successful day.

also will be getting back on MFP as i find that pretty good for keeping on track.

AuntieStella · 07/03/2016 20:28

(PS: I definitely have a deluded wardrobe!)

Imstickingwiththisone · 07/03/2016 20:50

Hmm few mentions of MFP on this thread I think I might download it and see what the fuss is.

Thought I'd ha e a quick scan of this thread for motivation. Will start my healthy eating tomorrow! Sliced peaches (from a tin! Budget healthy!) and plain yoghurt.

My biggest problem is sugar. Need to buy some sweeteners for my tea because otherwise I just won't drink.

Can't do porridge or muesli in the morning it turns my stomach.

anothermadamebutterfly · 07/03/2016 21:22

Yes, a deluded wardrobe! For a long time I used to blame DH for accidentally shrinking my clothes by putting them in the tumble dryer until I realised that it was not the clothes getting smaller but me getting bigger.

auntiestella I get really moody if I don't eat much, so I could not manage days of low consumption, but I know people on the 5:2 who swear by it and seem to have lost weight that way.

AuntieStella · 07/03/2016 21:46

Hi, magicaltoaster !

I'm having my first flirtation with MFP, set at 1200. I started at the start of March, so don't know yet whether I'll find it useful.

I might risk moods! As it's only for a couple of days. Either that, or try getting some of that Tesco potentially-poisonous butter (immediately after the lunch, don't want to miss it completely by mistiming the bacteria)

Bovnydazzlers · 08/03/2016 06:56

Please can I join too?

DC2 almost 2 months. I put on far more weight this pregnancy than last. I'm 5'2 and small framed, currently 9'2 and would like to be 8'2 (8 stone in the absolute ideal world but I've not been that weight for a few years now.

Never really dieted before. Been using MFP for a week (think I was losing before weekend away to the in laws, big portions and lots of cake!)

Planning to walk with pram as much as poss, get back into running a couple of times a week (did a 4K at the weekend, got to start somewhere!) and maybe even tackle the 30 day shred.

Confident the walking and jogging will continue, I just need to keep the motivation for calorie restriction!

Also... My snack of choice I'm allowing myself if anyone wants to copy... Ritter sport mini bars (8 for £2 from decathlon), quality chocolate hit for only 92 calories, feels like a treat!

LizardBreath · 08/03/2016 08:55

Morning,
Good exceed use day yest - x2 circuit classes.

Insanity class done this am - just need to be good on food now! I love the Easter treat foods, must not go near shops.....

readyforsunshine · 08/03/2016 09:15

Hi all, can I join too?
I've got almost a stone to lose & have been losing & gaining the same few lbs for months, time to get serious! Will read the thread later but wanted to post to start my day & keep me on track.

LizardBreath · 08/03/2016 09:16

Exceed use? Exercise!

magicaltoaster · 08/03/2016 10:53

Morning all. Glad so many people are using MFP, i found it really useful. Although i think the calories setting of 1,200 does seem a bit low. Im sure most people could loose weight on about 1,500 with a bit of exercise.

Started well today: green tea & museli for breakfast.
about to have a coffee then go swimming. Also did 10 min excersice dvd this morning. Must resist the urge to binge and have a healthy lunch.

AuntieStella · 08/03/2016 11:21

I got 1,200 on MFP when I set it for 1.5lbs per week loss. When I put in 1lb instead, it was 1,410. Now what it offers you might be different based on age, starting weight and level of activity, but I think rate of loss is the bit of the settings you need to fiddle with to change your daily total.

I might be having a couple of really low intake days for a different reason. I've just posted on the 'virus going around' thread, am back in bed with a temperature and zero appetite.

oldlaundbooth · 08/03/2016 16:59

Hello to all the new people Flowers

I second MFP - it is a real wake up call to how many calories are actually in food. Pasta and cereal were my biggest shocks.

Keeping to 1400 a day isn't that bad - no room for any error though. I find most women only need around that amount to not gain weight - obviously it depends on your size/activity levels.

You lot on here don't seem to eat much- how do you manage it?!

I've heard good things about 5:2 - not sure if it's for me though, might give it a go in summer. Even if you do one day a week it must help you lose weight.

magicaltoaster · 08/03/2016 17:02

I got 1,200 aswell, it just doesnt feel like much. Especially compared to what i was eating before Blush

My big problem with dieting is that I think about food all the time when im on one, it keeps sneaking into my mind. I guess thats really only the first week though and it gets easier after that. Must persevere.

anothermadamebutterfly · 08/03/2016 17:29

Thinking about food can get a bit obsessive, which is sort of annoying and probably counter-productive in the long run. I think the weekends are most difficult because there is more time and less structure, so meals get chaotic. And seeing friends and eating out means there is more drink and food available (I don't normally drink much during the week). Weekdays are easier because I go to work quite early and never really snack at work and when I come home I normally am busy doing homework and stuff with the kids (except for sneaking in a few minutes on mumsnet, that is). I have had a good day - left-over avocado and feta and tomato salad for breakfast and then again my tuscany bean soup and an apple for lunch (I made a big pot of it and take some to work every day). Dinner will be chicken curry.

Some of you are very inspirational - Lizardbreathe (love your name) and your x2 circuit training - wow. I cycle to work most days (about 8 miles round trip, with a few hills in there), so I get some exercise, but I would like to do more.

magicaltoaster, please please do not take this the wrong way, and forgive me if I am massively overstepping a line and interfering, but I found myself wondering given what you say about your previous history with food - have you thought about asking your GP for advice? I was just wondering about things like CBT and whether that could be beneficial in the longer run if you are struggling with binging? I guess that it would be v. difficult to get a referral though.

Anyway, hope the day is going well for all of you.

fadingblonde1 · 08/03/2016 18:05

Oldlaudbooth I find exactly that, if I eat 1,400 cals every day I only maintain or even gain weight if I've not been very active. About 20 years ago I needed to lose just over two stone, I did it by eating a 1000 cals a day and lost no more than half a pound a week. I don't know why now, when I'd like to lose about 7 pounds, I expect to drop them any faster...

I know I really need to strictly meal plan and up my exercise which is sporadic at best. I was reading that exercise makes no real difference to weight loss but I think that mentally, for me at any rate, it helps me make better food choices.

magicaltoaster · 08/03/2016 18:35

Your right anothermadame, i should probably, but i went the other day and she was so bloody unhelpful that i though ill tackle it on my own. I was getting councelling when i went under weight but now im not underweight anymore they dont seem to care, even though ive put on a stone since september. Even though im still in the healthy range i feel uncomfortable at this weight

oldlaundbooth · 08/03/2016 18:59

'I know I really need to strictly meal plan and up my exercise which is sporadic at best. I was reading that exercise makes no real difference to weight loss but I think that mentally, for me at any rate, it helps me make better food choices.'

Me too, fading

I know a class will only burn 300 calories or whatever but it makes me feel like being super healthy and eating spinach and salmon and not pizza!

It's hard to get your head around the fact that we actually need so little food to just maintain. When I think of the huge portions I used to eat and then wonder why I was 4 stone overweight?! Social conditioning plus sugar in foods is dangerous.

My MIL is French and she is typically petit.

Her portion sizes are very small. Yes, she eats cheese, wine and chocolate but not very much of it at all. She probably does 1200 cals per day max.

She spooned me out some apple compote for dessert - it was literally a tablespoonful. I would have eaten at least 5 or 6 tablespoons of it!

anothermadamebutterfly · 08/03/2016 19:41

Interesting about the exercise possibly not having an impact on weight loss, I always assume it does, as for one thing it burns calories and also makes you feel more positive. I find it easier to eat more healthily when I do exercise and the times in my life when I have put on weight has tended to be during periods when I was fairly inactive.

Almost all my family are slim and none of them eat very much. Bit like your French MIL oldlaund - little portions of this and that. A box of chocolates will last my parents for weeks as they just have one of them now and again. And then me and kids come to visit and eat them out of house and home!

magicaltoaster, I am sorry to hear that your GP was so unhelpful, that really stinks. I hope you find the support here more helpful.

RibinaPet · 08/03/2016 21:23

Hi all, this is a really great thread, would you mind if I join in too? I need to lose a stone ideally in time for a wedding I'm going to in April. I don't have scales at home and I got weighed at the gym last week and I was exactly 12stone. I'm 5ft7, and the last time I'd weighed myself was a few years ago and I was under 9stone. So it was a bit of a shock to be 3 stone heavier. I've got two young dc and I'm going through a divorce, working two jobs, studying for a degree and living as a single mum, so all that combined has just made the weight pile on. But I just keep getting bigger and bigger. It's mostly on my stomach but my shoulders and arms look really bulky too, and I've got a really big double chin.

I've never really dieted before, but I need to take extreme measures now. If I just lost one stone for the time being that would be achievable.

This thread is great - I've just installed My fitness Pal on my phone, and I'm going to order 30-day shred and a set of scales from Amazon. I'm going to DO this!!

readyforsunshine · 08/03/2016 21:58

Good for you ribinapetSmile
Interesting re exercise, i also find I need to strike the right balance. It's discouraging to realise that a tough workout has burnt the equivalent of half an apple, also I have talked myself into deserving a glass of wine, giant plate of cheese, cause, y'know, i exercisedHmm However, it can reduce hunger & as you say put you in the right mindset, & toning helps so much with shape/inch loss, even if it doesn't show on the scales.
My first day has gone well, roll on b'fast! Dh away now until Saturday so I'll get a good chance to make a good start.
