I need to lose 3.5 stone - feel so fed up about it I am ignoring the mince pies and Thornton's chocolates! I have lost weight before with a great bunch of ladies on mn. I feel motivated to do the same again and this time keep it off, I went through my wardrobe and found a very stylish tunic I bought in the South of France that I wore once before gaining weight.

Whatever your approach - low carb, Weight Watchers, Slimmers World or healthy eating, all welcome to join me with motivational tips/chat to keep each other going. I find that I don't stick to any plan and eating at meals times/snack on veg and fruit/exercise works for me.

Look forward to chatting with whoever wants to join Smile

According to MFP a pear has 145 cals, can that be right? Ok they are fairly big but blimey.

Laters chums x

helenahandbag · 23/01/2016 07:58

That doesn't sound right Piste, and it's exactly why I don't use MFP anymore.

According to my Nutracheck app a large pear is 88kcal. I pay £3.99 for this app and it's a British only food database with all values added and maintained by a team of staff, not added by random users like MFP.

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 23/01/2016 09:11

I thought a pear was around 90-100 cals. I was watching a documentary the other day which showed how inexact the science of calculating calories was, especially in things like ready meals.
Well done, Pistey, you're on a roll.
I have not only lost my pesky lb this week but two extra pounds too Grin. Very happy about that. Done the 30 DS already, am just off for a walk (in the rain) with a friend & will run later.
Have a good day.

MABS · 23/01/2016 09:16

OUCH! Out for dinner last night, not even listing what I ate, and even worse drank.

Out for lunch today and tomorrow... not driving for either so It wont be good :(

ineedamoreadultieradult · 23/01/2016 09:26

Down to 9st 1 (I confess to being a daily weigher) out tonight as I am child free and my favourite tapas place has 25% off! Going to stick to dry January though!

JustABigBearAlan · 23/01/2016 10:47

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Downstairs I have a fitbit and I love it. It's been one of my goals since New Year. As well as eating better (not following a diet as such, but cutting out all chocolate, sweets, biscuits, cakes etc - all the things I love, sob!) I decided to make sure I do my 10,000 steps every day. I also aim to run three times a week.

Recently I've been really busy, and in the past I'd have used that as an excuse -'I just don't have time to exercise'. With something as simple as walking, I can fit it in. I tend to march round the house at night to get my steps up. I look mad, but it's really motivating. Also it's every day, so no putting things off to the next day.

House I'm impressed with all the exercise you're doing. And I just love your user name Grin

madein1995 · 23/01/2016 11:45

Weighed myself today (am going to lose weight via healthy eating and weekly weigh ins), and I'm 15.13, 1 stone and 3 pounds heavier than I was when I weighed myself last. Onwards and upwards though, I suppose. I know I can do it!
Meal plan today -

L - Chicken tikka filler in a sandwich made of that and tiger bread and some lettuce. A smoothie afterwards, probably orange, banana, milk and frozen fruit.

T- Chicken stir fry (got this new sauce to try from Tesco, it's coconut and lemongrass). Probably some hot water and lemon afterwards. If I get hungry this evening, I have reduced fat hummus and carrot sticks/

GettinTrimmer · 23/01/2016 13:49

Welcome to new joiners Smile

Well done to other Friday losers Star

Piste I thought a pear (depending on size) would only be about 50 calories, same as an apple.

Weightlossgoals I don't go to the gym, but when I get round to doing exercise classes, I enjoy staying for a shower - you may like to get some lovely shower gel (I like body shop fruity stuff), do your hair, then arrive at work feeling refreshed. Even better if you have the time pause for a coffee before you go to work. If I went home I would see the housework that needs doing and ruin the mood!

I was aching for 2 days after doing Davina 15 minutes aerbic fit and arms, now muscles are back to normal, I'm off out for a run after lunch has gone down. Yesterday pounded treadmill for 20 minutes. I am home alone today, dh is away for weekend catching up with college friends, dc are at my mum's. Making the most of it!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 23/01/2016 15:41

yy me too Trim, more like 50 cals per 100g ffs!

Downstairs, I am 5' 3" and small boned, so although I am within the healthy weight range I still look decidedly plump! I'm aiming at 8 stone, but am thinking more about measurements and how fit and healthy I feel than about the number on the scales, so might stop at a higher weight.

Got my brothers round as both their birthdays are this weekend, so today is a write off Grin Will be back on it tomorrow though...

madein1995 · 23/01/2016 21:25

It's been ok today, not fab but then I'm not cutting out anything because I know that I'll just end up binging, so I'm just being a bit more sensible.

Lunch - (woke up at 11 so missed breakfast) - chicken tikka sandwich with lettuce and scraping of butter. Smoothie of banana, milk, orange and frozen fruit. Had some reduced fat hummus and a few crackers as still hungry.

Tea - I made the stir fry but the sauce was horrible so ended up throwing it out. Had carrot and coriander soup instead with 2 slices of bread. Then had a carefully measured portion of chocolate ice cream.

A bit too much bread, but the soup and bread was a quick last minute replacement so wouldn't normally happen. In all, that's 1439 calories which nutracheck says will let me lose 1.5 pounds a week. Tomorrow I'm having a takeaway with friends for tea (not the best start admitedly, but it's a friends birthday so we're celebrating), so will not be eating much throughout the day.

I do have a question though. My friends are adament that 1400 calories is too little and every woman should eat 2000 calories a day or it's unhealthy? I'm not particularly active so sure I dont need that many, but I'm unsure. They said if I kept eating so little at around 1400 my body wouldnt get enough food and would start putting on weight? (Makes no sense). I'm sure that's a myth though?

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 24/01/2016 08:12

I've woken up with a horrible cold today which probably explains last week's loss of appetite.
Yesterday, I did 30 DS, went for an hour's walk and a 5k run. I skipped breakfast but ate an apple & a couple of carrots mid-morning, a small portion of lasagne, a slice of garlic bread & loads of salad for lunch & then went off the rails a bit in the evening as I went to a friends for dinner so had crisps, shepherds pie & veg and then a chocolate puddle pudding thing with ice cream. Despite not drinking & having eaten all of that, I had the munchies when I got home & had a slice of fruit bread and a couple more bite sized crumbs of cake. I think it is handy as did as much exercise as I did!
Made you need to work out your TDEE which is how many calories your body needs each day to support your breathing & blood circulation as a minimum and then your activity levels etc. The 2000 calorie thing seems to be a random figure for today's sedentary with electric appliances lifestyle and, in my humble opinion, is a contributory factor to the obesity crisis as people think they are "allowed" to eat that much each day. I'm 5'4, in my late 30s and have a desk job. My TDEE is just under 1600 calories! If I were to eat 2000 calories a day, I would eat 400 calories more than I need each have day or 12000 more than I need in a 30 day month which would mean I would gain 3.5lbs per month. Keeping my eating around 1600 is an effort, hence why I have realised I am always going to have to exercise on a regular basis just to maintain my weight.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 24/01/2016 09:43

Agree, 2000 is too high unless you're active and maintaining a highish weight.

I know that some of the slim, smallish women I know (5'4", 9 stone, sort of thing) have said that their TDEE is more like 1500-1600. I'm 10 st 4, 5'4", and if I put into the calculator that I'm sedentary (which you are if you're not doing any deliberate exercise) then my maintenance calories come out at 1580. Here's a TDEE Calculator

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 24/01/2016 10:21

Your TDEE decreases as you lose weight & as you get older. I once ran the numbers based on being 9st (something I haven't been since a teenager) and 50 and will be able to have a carrot stick every day with perhaps a cucumber stick as a Sunday treat. By the time I'm 60, it will be a carrot stick every other day & my treat cucumber stick on 29th Feb!

Afternoon Smile

Just had lunch of small jacket potato, sweetcorn and low fat mayo, hoping that will get me through until roast dinner at 6.30pm, but easy on the roast spuds for me.

It's a new thing for me of forgetting about calories and , well, just eating less and moving more. Probably works out very similar to slimming world, but I am trying to change. I have ignored some chocolates, not tempted. Cheese and crisps are a different matter! I keep repeating to myself 'eat less, move more.'

piste I have a theory, I looked at that blood group diet and you were eating an O group diet with the low carb stuff. Maybe it didn't suit your blood group. I am O positive, and according to the diet (which is argued the theory is flawed) I should be having lean meat, fish, and cutting out bread, grains etc. I don't eat meat so would be a little difficult! I can cut down on the old wheat, but wouldn't give it up.

Having said that madein if you were to have 2000 calories to lose weight you would have to exercise vigorously often.

madein1995 · 24/01/2016 13:54

I've done some caluculations and found that to lose weight I could eat between 1200 and 1500 calories per day, which seems doable and sustainable. I don't think I'll manage that today (god knows how much a pizza will be), but I'm going to make up for that by being good the rest of the week :D definitely won't be aiming for 2000 calories a day!

ChristmasCabbage · 24/01/2016 18:33

Another 2lbs off this week.

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 24/01/2016 19:43

Well done, Christmas.
Not a great day here.
Breakfast - 2 X weetabix & 1/2 banana (fine)
Lunch - bns & halloumi salad (rushed choice in a cafe. Covered in dressing. Possibly not too bad). A dozen or so of DS' fries plus half a fish finger (bad)
Supper - pot roast beef & veggie with a little bit of mash (fine)
Snacks - half a multi pack bag of mini cheddars (not great but not disasterous), mouthful of flapjack (ditto), most of a treat sized bag of milky way stars (not good. I don't even like them!)
Drinks - mainly lemsip.

FluffyPersian · 24/01/2016 19:56

Well done Cabbage! Smile

ThatsNotMyHouse That doesn't sound like a totally bad day... Tomorrow is another day anyway - Hope you feel better soon!

Downstairs So you're only weighing in two days before me! I'm a week today Grin.. God knows what it will be! First time I find out how much weight I've lost since 1st January!

I've had a really nice weekend which kinda started on Thursday as I've not been at work on Thursday or Friday. My eating has been pretty good - although I did have 5 left over Christmas Marzipan chocolates on Friday night as I had this really weird desire for chocolate so thought 'I'll give my body what it's craving'....

... and yesterday my period came!!!!!!

Usually, this is hardly a cause for enjoyment, but as I've not had one since I terminated in October I've been so, so worried. It's incredibly heavy and I've actually been quite emotional over the whole thing, but I'm so happy that my body is getting back to normal.

I had my 'Thai Style' fish tonight with jasmine sticky rice

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1031/thaistyle-steamed-fish

This will also be tomorrow nights dinner as well Smile. Really going to try and stay motivated for the next 7 days so I can (hopefully) drop a stone this month.

Hope everyone else has a great start to the week!

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2016 08:57

Fluffy. Yah for af

Cabbage well done on loss

Pisty - 1200 is very low and tbh you shouldn't go to bed without eating if no calories left :(

That's not healthy .......

Still kinda being good but not totally - huge Gins at weekend and birthday cake for my great nephew 1st bday ......

Just need to get my head and shit together and will hopefully bounce back and get in the mode

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/01/2016 08:58

Tho saying that we are out for a meal tonight as our anniversary so very unlikely to be good or lose weight this week .....

Well done on the 2lb loss cabbage. I've only lost 0.5lb this week. It's better than nothing or a gain but I'm still a bit disappointed. I did eat out for Dh's birthday on Tuesday but have been super strict since then to make up for it. Oh well, next week should be better.
