Calling all Grinches! Who wants to lose weight in December?

I have to start watching what I eat and exercise as I am stuck in a rut! It may be bad timing but I don't care. My goal is 2lb a week so 8lb by the end of Dec. I am 159 lb right now (11 stone 5 lb). Please come and join in my insanity - I am also joining a gym this week.

Boring dilemma, found some jeans for holiday but 16 too big and 14 too small. Keeping them and will decide at last minute but doubt the 14 will be okay in 3 weeks but don't want to wear something that's clearly too big.

Labels still on so I can return all or any but sister wondered if 16 might come up just right after washing? There's stretch in them though. I thought it was only pure cotton that might shrink a bit.

lorelei9 · 19/01/2016 15:28

Helena, X post, that's what I measure as waist too.

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 19/01/2016 16:42

Some people consider their waist at the slimmest bit but the medical waist is an inch above the belly button. Only on mn could that be so contentious or last 100s of posts.

It's not clear of the naturally thin woman lifts weight but if she does I assure you that the light shines out of her arse when she bends down to fetch her kettlebell.

She definitely doesn't eat her dinner while watching the blacklist in the toy shop living room. She definitely doesn't have to fight off her two year old from nicking all the chicken out of her salad, either. I bet she's never eaten a cold fish finger from her kid's plate to save it from the bin. Goody two shoes springs to mind.

lorelei9 · 19/01/2016 21:50

Kondo,you crack me up Grin

An inch above? Okay. useful if you wear trousers in the style of Simon Cowell.

helenahandbag · 20/01/2016 12:45

The scales are still moving now that I'm eating more - 13st 9.75 this morning Grin

Official weigh in is Saturday morning so I'm hoping for a good overall loss this week.

I'm supposed to be going to gym classes tonight and Friday night but my boss has sprung a task on me today that will mean I'm running late, and Friday is a write off as she has asked me to set up her event at 5pm and hang around for a while to "show face" which means that 6pm spin class isn't going to happen Angry

lorelei9 · 20/01/2016 14:05

Well done Helena
Can you do something at home?
I think I've got to work late tonight too, plops.

helenahandbag · 20/01/2016 15:25

Tonight should be okay because there's a class at 7pm that I like. I'll try to do something on Friday but it won't be a disaster if I can't because I've got classes booked on Saturday and Sunday, plus I'll do half an hour in the pool after the classes.

CharleyDavidson · 20/01/2016 22:27

I lost another pound this week, according to the meeting scales. So that's now 13.9 at my meeting (13.7 at home in the morning).

According to my scales at home that morning, I'd lost 2lb, but what with one thing and another (different clothes, different evening meal pre-meeting etc) the full 2lb didn't show. I look forward to seeing the result next week.

I have great days and other days where I just want to sabotage myself.

Yesterday I used all my dailies but no weeklies. To exert a bit of control over what I was eating and prove I can go without a sweet treat in the evening. Today I've been to my zumba class, but I've also dipped into my weekly points quite a bit to account for a few treats that were had.

lorelei9 · 21/01/2016 15:07

well done Charley.

I have to go for dinner 2 nights in a row. Tonight is Thai. I'm thinking of having ...something with jasmine rice. Not sure what goes with jasmine rice. Would normally have pad thai but that will be way too high in cals.

helenahandbag · 21/01/2016 15:36

Well done! I'm up 0.5lbs as TOTM has arrived randomly so I've booked an appointment with the doctor for Monday morning as this is a nightmare. It's two weeks off, two weeks on at the moment and I'm just drained.

Still haven't managed the gym yet this week due to stuff getting in the way, I have college 6-9pm tonight and then tomorrow's a write off. I did get 13000 steps in yesterday, and 48 flights of stairs! Shock

lorelei9 · 21/01/2016 16:37

Helena, do you mean you actually climbed 48 flights of stairs on the stairmaster or something? Respect!

2 weeks on, 2 weeks off - oh dear, doc visit in order for sure Flowers

helenahandbag · 21/01/2016 16:47

No, it tracks all of your steps and walking at an incline counts as stairs, so walking up hill counts as X amount of flights. I took the stairs all day at work instead of the lift, plus the uni campus where I work is on, frankly, a bastard of a hill and I was up and down it three times setting up rooms for skype interviews. I was knackered when I got home!

helenahandbag · 21/01/2016 16:47
  • "It" being my Fitbit - sorry!
CharleyDavidson · 21/01/2016 22:14

What a rubbish day, food wise!

I've eaten my normal healthy soup and fruit lunch, and tried a chilled WW pasta meal for dinner, which was less than satisfactory.

THen I've snacked on rubbish. And done very little activity.

Tomorrow is another day though, isn't it. I shall start with my Friday zumba class and then clock up lots of steps while mooching around the shops - as long as DD isn't ill tomorrow! She's complaining of earache which I hope will clear up for her by tomorrow.

lorelei9 · 22/01/2016 11:04

that doesn't sound too bad Charley?

I have to say, those WW ready meals do not look appetising!

hopefully your DD is all right.

I ate out last night but it wasn't horrific, showing up .5lb heavier today but that's all. Have to eat out tonight as well so going to cut back tomorrow, which I have planned as a lazy day.

lorelei9 · 31/01/2016 15:42

how's everyone getting on?

Holiday in 10 days. Not really expecting to lose any more but still deeply unimpressed with loss thus far! That said, there's been enough change of shape to warrant buying some clothes. I do have enough to see me through a holiday and probably the next 6 weeks if I keep losing this slowly, all bought at bargain prices. (I might have mentioned my wardrobe reflects rapid weight gain - lots of size 10, handful of 12 + 14, lots of 16s for when I thought I'd just live with the gain.

so now I'm a borderline 14 again, I did have to buy some stuff.

I am a terrible traveller so to a large extent can't overeat on holiday anyway as I have to be careful not to upset my stomach generally. I think I have done a lot to conquer sugar cravings so can't see me eating puddings, especially America where the main course will normally be half uneaten anyway!!

then I get back and have to see the doc fairly quick. Such fun.

i will do something different when I get back but I am not sure what. I do really like what this fitness regime has done for my strength. That said, I think it's such a hard workout it would probably be better to cut cals more on more days and just do this workout 2 x a week and then maybe just walking on the other 2.

sorry, that was boring but helpful for me to think aloud!

CharleyDavidson · 31/01/2016 18:02

I've had a couple of poor weeks. Nights out, self sabotage etc. I lost half a pound last week and might have lost the same again this week. I do need to get more focussed to get more off, but I'm still happy it's coming off.

I have my birthday coming up in a fortnight so am going to try for a good couple of weeks before them.

lorelei9 · 31/01/2016 19:40

Charley, half a pound is my average and it's still a loss!

I actually wonder if holiday is a good chance to lose a bit more. Just looking at our plans and thinking "i sure as hell cant get bored like at work". And there will be SUN Grin

Maybe that's too optimistic. But we will be very active too.

CharleyDavidson · 31/01/2016 19:55

Borderline 14 is good progress. I'm in generous 16s and they are starting to get baggy, particularly around my waist. But also around my legs a bit. So I'm def losing inches despite a slowish rate. Since joining ww I've lost 3.5, 2.5, 0.5 and another 0.5 tomorrow - probably. THat's a lot better than I would have been if I hadn't joined.

Last year I had a pre-op appt (for an op that was cancelled 5 mins before they took me down to the theatre) and then another pre-op and finally the hip operation itself. Then weeks lying around or hobbling on crutches. I was allowed to return to my exercise regime after 12 weeks and, 6 months on, I do feel a bit stronger finally. And I'm a lb lighter than I was before my first pre-op. At one point I was 14.3 which means I've lost about 12lb.

I'm a bit jealous of your holiday! :)

lorelei9 · 31/01/2016 20:11

Glad you're feeling stronger!

I do think winter makes weight loss harder too.

CharleyDavidson · 31/01/2016 20:52

I used to quite like the one pot type casseroles etc and found them easy to stick to low cal/low point etc days. But I'm fed up of them and looking forward to salads now!

I'm happy with my soups for lunch though in the cold weather. But I would like to have lighter evenings to make it easier to get out for a walk without DH worrying that I'm out in the dark or it being too cold or miserable.

Roll on spring!

I went to euro disney with the dds last year and we had LOTS to eat at breakfast - pastries etc -, a light lunch and a buffet dinner. I lost 2lb that week due to all the walking!

lorelei9 · 01/02/2016 21:37

Well today was a disaster
Took me 2.5 hours to get home from work
I was so hungry I opted for McDonald's while waiting for delays to clear, I had to interrupt my journey as they took the train out of service
There was a Subway open but on,y a stall, and I needed a bathroom so McD's it was

I dream of being able to work from home completely, partly to do away with commuting and office crap, but also it makes eating so much nicer and healthier at the same time.

CharleyDavidson · 01/02/2016 22:29

I have indeed lost half a lb this week, even according to the meeting's scales. I'll take that, because I really didn't deserve it! Too many points eaten.

I have shopped for a healthier week and will plan the order of my meals and hope that I can stay on track a bit more.

If I worked at home I'd be stuffed. I am happy with my light lunch of soup or salad at work and don't have the time or chance to snack - unless there's cake in the staffroom if it's been one of the teacher's birthdays. At home I'd be tempted to pick and I'd do only a fraction of the steps in a day than I get in at school.

2.5hours sounds horrendous though!

lorelei9 · 02/02/2016 10:57

well done Charley!

I won't bore you with the details but there's going to be issues with my commute generally now. Sigh. I never boredom eat at home.
