Calling all Grinches! Who wants to lose weight in December?

FrancisdeSales · 30/11/2015 00:53

I have to start watching what I eat and exercise as I am stuck in a rut! It may be bad timing but I don't care. My goal is 2lb a week so 8lb by the end of Dec. I am 159 lb right now (11 stone 5 lb). Please come and join in my insanity - I am also joining a gym this week.

Ruby I pretty much existed on biscuits when my little ones were 8 weeks old - and I only had one at a time! Recovering from your section too - kudos to you. No groundbreaking exercise suggestions from me I'm afraid - I go to a yoga class once a week, and try to walk everywhere. That's about as much as I seem able to fit in these days...

FrancisdeSales · 03/12/2015 05:50

Are you BFing Rubyslippers? Cos you need plenty of nutritious food to be able to feed those boys. I wouldn't actively try to lose weight but instead focus on really healthy food for you. Breastfeeding will make you ravenous. Make sure you drink tons of water.

Well, another day done and dusted! Wednesday is Rainbow and Brownie night so I didn't get home until 9pm but I'm still not feeling hungry so I wasn't as drained as I usually am. This morning's breakfast was a treat too - apple and cinnamon protein mug cake with cream cheese "icing" Grin delicious, though 8g of carbs so not for every day.

The scales said 14st 0.2lbs this morning... soooo close! 9.8lbs down since last Monday Grin

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 03/12/2015 10:34

What is this witch craft where you don't feel hungry and lose weight?

I'm trying to up the protein, omelette on the morning, chicken/ tuna salad for lunch and I feel like I am dying by 4pm and that's with a few full fat coffees inbetween.

Harrumph

It means that I'm hovering around the kids at their dinner time like a vulture waiting for the leftovers.

helenahandbag · 03/12/2015 10:52

The witchcraft is ketosis! It's the thing that stops me ripping someone's arm off to get at their carby lunch Grin

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 03/12/2015 11:10

Are you following a particular plan or are you winging it?

I have no idea what I'm doing apart from resisting the urge to eat all day long. Looking at MFP I had 42g of carbs yesterday which felt almost virtuous but is, no doubt, a long way from anything like ketosis inducing rations.

helenahandbag · 03/12/2015 11:43

I'm totally winging it. Atkins Induction allows 18 - 22g of carbs a day so I'm using that as a guideline but I'm allowing myself things that are not on The List, like "gold top" full cream milk instead of double cream, which I've never enjoyed in coffee. I'm counting calories and carbs with MFP.

helenahandbag · 04/12/2015 09:53

The scales are up 0.8lbs this morning, I'm absolutely spitting because I can never seem to push past into the 13's! This has happened to me three times this year, I teeter on the edge for weeks and then end up giving up Sad

I didn't drink much water yesterday so hopefully that's the cause. I've had a black tea and 600ml of water already so I'll keep my intake up and see if that clears the bloating.

My food has been spot on and I have spinning again tonight.

CharleyDavidson · 04/12/2015 10:09

I'd loke to join. I crept up to 14st recently and have decided enough is enough. I joined wwejghtwatchers even though Christmas is approaching and I actually managed to gain half a pound the first week dye ti wake out that bad been pre arranged. According to my scales, I'm 2lb down on that now. In a morning I weigh and today said 13.10. I always used to have around 12st and didn't mine that. I've been 11st and really happy with my shake si that's my goal.

Weightwatchers is having an overhaul of their plan next week, so I will see what changes the new plan will bring.

CharleyDavidson · 04/12/2015 10:11

That should read

Due to meals out

And

Happy with me shape

KondosSecretJunkRoom · 04/12/2015 10:56

Don't worry Helena, you have this nailed, it's just a blip.

Hi Charlie, oooh, I was thinking of joining WW in the new year depending on how this month goes.

I have lost a pound which means that I have nudged into a healthy bmi at 24.9 but if I so much as sniff a slice of panettone I'll be back on the other side.

helenahandbag · 04/12/2015 11:28

Thanks Kondos, I know you're right. It's a fluctuation, and it proves that no good can come of weighing yourself every day!

Weightwatchers is having an overhaul of their plan next week, so I will see what changes the new plan will bring

The new plan looks great, I actually have a WW tracker that I paid for a while ago (I got a three month deal) and I've had a look. The chatter is that high protein foods of the same calorific value as sugary foods will have different points. Protein will make the points go down, sugar will make them go up. You also get fewer weekly points, a tailored amount to you instead of a standard 49 per week.

SnowBodyforrrrm · 05/12/2015 10:09

It sounds like the ww plan is starting to be a bit healthier if it's reducing protein food points as they fill you for longer! That's good to here. Good luck to the new joiners, I always had sucess with ww as long as I stuck to it.

helena you've done amazingly, and hopefully after you go (if you know what I mean) that 0.9 gain will be gone along with a little bit more. I agree weighing everyday can be disheartening so I've stopped.

So I had my weekly weigh in today and I'm a happy and slightly slimmer grinch. I'm down 4lbs this week Grin and only 0.8lb from being back in the 10st bracket. I'm over the moon and it's given me the boost to keep going. I've had a few slip ups this week but for the main part have eaten well and avoided carbs as much as possible.

ruby go easy on yourself. I was the same when my twins were born, I could hardly step foot in the kitchen and great friends and family started bringing us round dinners (hearty filling meals) as I dropped 3st during the last month or so of pregnancy and the early few weeks, purely because I survived on two bananas a day and that was it. Obviously it wasn't sustainable as over the next three years 2st creeped back on (helped along by moon face steroids when I was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier this year) when things settle down, you'll have a bit more time to plan and get in the kitchen and choose good filling things but you've just built and given birth to two babies. The section sounds horrific, mine wasn't great they left stuff behind but luckily removed it manually rather then having to open me again. It sounds like you've really been through the mill. How about hot yoga for a gentle return to exercise?

helenahandbag · 05/12/2015 11:48

Woohoo, that's a great loss! Today was my official weigh in and the 'gain' is gone. The scales flickered to 13st 13.5 but settled on 14st exactly - grrr! Still, 10lbs off since last Monday can't be sniffed at...

SnowBodyforrrrm · 05/12/2015 13:43

Arghhhh how frustrating but huge indenture to push on this week to see 13st..... Next week! Well done you Xmas Grin

FrancisdeSales · 06/12/2015 16:19

I weighed myself this morning and I am 157, although I am praying that the scales are correct as the balancers at the bottom are a bit lose. So will try and hold off on the celebration until I've had DH check for me.

Whatever the outcome I have gradually been changing what I'm eating. We had a big move to another nation this year and with all the stress running up to the move and the move itself I just ate when I was hungry whatever I fancied. Needless to say I put weight on, not sure how much but probably about 10lbs. When I arrived I discovered I was anemic so focused on building up my iron levels and getting everyone settled.

I feel hearty now but not completely hale as I could do with some exercise as I have a comfy sofa look going on at the mo! I have stopped snacking and am thinking about what I'm putting in my mouth. I have cut back but not sure how long it will be before I see a difference, but I AM NOT GAINING which is half the battle!

So keep Grinching and hopefully I really have lost a bit of weight this week! My weekly goal is sign up for the gym which I should have done this week.

Ladies, I am 13st 12.5 as of this morning Grin it has been a long time coming and poor DP looked a bit alarmed when I started to cry after getting on the scales Blush

After spending so long in the grips of my eating disorder, it feels amazing to have beaten that mental stumbling block.

Well done to you other Grinches for staying on the wagon, hope you're all having a fab weekend!

FrancisdeSales · 06/12/2015 19:46

Fantastic Helena! So nice to finally get to your current personal goal : )

Hang in there with me and hopefully we will see the weight gradually fall off. Better to do it gradually and healthily.

My first goal is to get to 155lb and to start exercising.

FrancisdeSales · 06/12/2015 19:53

Helena just reread the thread and realized the total you lost this week! Fantastic, you are officially Grinch of the week!

I read your post about eating loads on Christmas Day, you may want to plan and control it somewhat so you don't undo all your hard work.

I would love to start the New Year having already lost some weight and moving in the right direction.

Grinches R Go!!!!

11.5lbs in two weeks! Shock

Since then, DP and I have decided to stay on our diet on the 25th, have a nice dinner at my parents' house on the 26th (mum's doing her famous Boxing Day pie with the leftover chicken and gammon, dad is making his trifle and there will be sloe gin and mince pies), then we'll drive back on the 27th and order pizza, which is the one thing I truly miss when low carbing. Then I'll be 100% back on it from the 28th until my hen party in April.

I know there will be a water weight gain after eating carbs but that goes within three days of low carbing. I'd rather gain a few pounds of water than sit miserable over my favourite holiday! Smile

fadingblonde1 · 06/12/2015 20:25

Hi hope it's ok if I join in. I want to lose a few pounds before xmas as I don't want to get to January 1st with a load of weight to lose. Started off well enough at the end of November and lost three pounds but as soon as I see the pounds drop I go and overeat and put them back on. It's like I reward my weight loss with food! I know how to lose weight but it's getting my head in the right space. I hope by posting I might make myself more accountable.

I haven't eaten too badly today but last week was a right off, I hope to get properly on track tomorrow.

TwoTonTessie · 06/12/2015 21:02

Have been lurking and just wanted to say well done helena Flowers You must be so pleased.
I am very close to seeing a number on the scales that I haven't seen for around 15 years Blush
Keep going all you grinches!

CharleyDavidson · 06/12/2015 21:26

I shall be taking a few days off in the Christmas week. Knowing I intend to do that is helping me not care right now that the Christmassy goodies that I would normally have a go at trying out (then eating) aren't being made until right up to Christmas. I've bought one jar of mincemeat rather than 3 etc etc.

I will weigh in tomorrow. I had a couple of foody days over the weekend, so I hope they haven't made too much of an impact on what I've lost. I had the weekly points for it, but it still feels like I overate.

The ww smartpoints has started. For some reason, even though I put in that I will weigh in on Monday, they've started my new week today. Hopefully later in the week or so I'll be able to reset things to show my real weigh in day as it messes up my weekly point counting otherwise. I'm on new ones today, instead of still using last weeks, which I should be. It's a pain but it's their transition, so it's not too surprising that some things aren't running like clockwork.

As long as I lose, I don't care though. At least the change to smartpoints is giving me something to have to think about instead of being blase about it from the start.
