A nice new thread for us all and for anyone else who wants to join in our 10lb challenge

I did run a half-marathon but that was a couple of years ago and pre-baby, and took 9 months of very dedicated training (starting from running for 60 seconds and nearly passing out!) Think 10k is 6.2 miles (?) so you're well on the way at 4 miles - the 5k should be a good confidence boost, I haven't gone that far yet. I do remember tho that running any distance (and uphill especially) burns the calories off pretty well

lornaloo · 11/01/2007 21:41

Hi everyone.
Skibump I try and drink loads of water too. Definitly lose more weight when I have 2 liters or more a day.

Mrs Fish your walk to the pub last night sounded nice.

Loopity well done for all your gym visits this week.

Fingers crossed for weigh in tomorrow.

skibump · 11/01/2007 21:43

Good thought to do the breast cancer run, I'll find out where my nearest one is this year. Good to have a target

skibump · 11/01/2007 21:45

Oh God it's tomorrow isn't it. Is that really a whole week? [goes to tap for more water] That means you start your new job in a couple of days Lorna?

lornaloo · 11/01/2007 21:54

Skibump we used to do weigh ins on thursday, we ended up moving it to fri so that we had an extra week day to diet before weighing.

lornaloo · 11/01/2007 21:55

Goes fast doesn't it

skibump · 11/01/2007 22:01

It really does! I guess that's the point - otherwise I'd still be thinking it's ok as long as I'm the same weight (!) and my target date (4th March) would just creep up on me....rambling, but ykwim

loopity · 11/01/2007 22:07

I'm back! Hi lornaloo
Half marathon - well done skibump, that's about 13miles, eek!!

skibump · 11/01/2007 22:41

Still here Loopity. If I can do it, anyone can given enough time and enough incentive Did take 2hrs 30 mins tho - so Paula Radcliffe could have done it twice and then some....

skibump · 11/01/2007 22:44

OK, you've probably gone. Fingers crossed for tomorrow

dislexicicecream · 12/01/2007 09:28

morning all of u ,
hope your weigh ins go well this week, i am not going to post my first week till next week cos like i said yesterday i am re starting,
so for have got off to a good start today with 6739 steps on my pedomiter and some all bran and cup of green tea, hope i can keep this up for the rest of the time though, think i will be ok this week till my first weigh in but i imagen next friday after weighing in i will prob be tempted to go wrong, lol

MrsFish · 12/01/2007 10:25

Well from last week I have lost 3 pound of what I put on over xmas, but I haven't been that good. I am using this week as my first proper week. So if I lose the full 10 pound from now, it will put me back in my 10 stone bracket which I will be well chuffed with

lornaloo · 12/01/2007 12:57

Morning!
Well done Mrs Fish thats so good.
I'm the same as I was on Monday. So a pound off since last fri. My body fat percentage has gone down to 19%.
Good luck everyone.

costababe · 12/01/2007 13:06

Hi to all, firstly thanks for all the advise re pilates, cant find a class local so am going to check out amazon and get a dvd to do at home.
Weighed this morning, lost another 2lbs this week, not sure how to be honest, havent been that great, few chocolates, red wine most nights. Did have a doggy tum for a day or two though so maybe thats what did it. I am now only 2lbs off my target weight.Keep motivated everybody.

costababe · 12/01/2007 13:07

even dodgy tum

loopity · 12/01/2007 14:44

Hi all
1.5lbs off for me so going the right direction again!
Well done everyone

Have been to gym again today. Thinking of trying one of the bodypump classes - has anyone else done this before? It's a workout using a weights bar, lol, I'll be a wreck by end of it. Lornaloo - my body fat percentage is way higher than that, very envious!

elclose · 12/01/2007 17:45

hi can i join?
i have about 10lb to lose so far this year i have lost 2lb and want to lose another 10 not really on a diet just healthy eating and trying not to eat toomuch my biggest downfall!!

loopity · 12/01/2007 18:49

Welcome elclose
Weigh-in day is a friday so good day to start - healthy eating and exercise is main goal here, although Christmas sabotaged a lot of our efforts so far

Marls001 · 12/01/2007 20:22

Skibump when you do plank think about pulling your belly button towards your spine ... that visual helped me get more effective form last year; wasn't doing it right before. Otherwise your back does more of the work ...

Yay MrsFish!!!

Welcome eclose.

Loopity ... wow! 19% is great!!! ... just looking at the printout that says desirable range for my age/gender starts at 21%, goes to 32.9% ... I'm 37 though; maybe that makes a difference? Definitely wouldn't mind 19%.

The machine at the gym is broken - they say for at least a week!
So may be Jan 22nd before I can weigh myself again ...

It's so hard for me to keep a food diary ... haven't been doing a good job at it.
Today 1 boiled egg, some tortilla chips, 2 pieces lemon cake, 3 small pieces dark chocolate, 1 big glass nonfat milk & 1 big glass nonfat choc. milk, 2 apples, 1 6-oz vegetable blend drink ... so far. Gym was weights and elliptical machine, approx 700 cals burned.

loopity · 12/01/2007 20:27

Hi marls - it's lornaloo who has the 19% body fat, not me unfortunately ! My last body fat readout at the gym was scary even though I'm in the acceptable bmi range for my height.

Lorns · 12/01/2007 20:29

HI I'm a fitness instructor, so if any of you need any help if the exercise department - let me know and I'll try and answer your questions!!!

loopity · 12/01/2007 20:37

Hi Lorns - will get back to you on that, thanks. Gotta go now - dinner ready!

OP posts:
skibump · 12/01/2007 21:37

Hi everyone

Elclose welcome, 2lb is great in 2 weeks

MrsFish and Costa fantastic, well done

Lornaloo as per Loopity, 19% sounds fantastic to me - surely you don't need to lose weight??? Not sure what my body fat % is, how do I find out? Or maybe that's a question for Lorns - thx for the support there by the way Lorns, might get back to you on that

Marls a week in and I still haven't tried the plank, thx for the tip I'll definitely try tonight (and every night for the rest of the week )

I've lost 1lb, which I'm taking as a good start, especially given the 2 week lag noted before. Definitely trying harder cos of being on this thread

loopity · 12/01/2007 22:37

Well done skibump on the 1lb loss
Lorns, any thoughts about bodypump classes, remember hearing it's a good class for weight loss as well as toning. I tend to swim and run on treadmill when I'm at the gym so any advice on best workouts to reduce %bodyfat (seeing we're on the subject today!) would be great.
