Just thought I'd pop back and say hello

I dropped out ages ago as I wasn't doing very well. I think I'd managed 6 or 7Ibs. Well over xmas I put on about 4 Ibs and now I'm back trying to loose those 4 Ibs plus another 7 (ish).

It's great to hear that you are all still at it - good on you all. Did anyone reach the original 10Ib goal?

loopity · 10/01/2007 15:59

Hi sweetheart, good to hear from you, was wondering how you were doing - I think snorkle and texasrose got their 10lbs off. Needless to say I'm still trying after Christmas over-indulgence.

loopity · 10/01/2007 16:01

Are you going to join in with us again? Go on, go on!!!!!

OP posts:
sweetheart · 10/01/2007 16:04

ummm I might do - to be honest I think I am getting too obsessed about weight loss. If someone had told me this time last year I would have lost so much weight I would have been chuffed - but here we are and I'm still not happy - I keep thinking another half a stone will do it!

I think I need to concentrate on excercise more than dieting so I can tone up my wobbly bits as it doesn't matter how much weight I loose they will still be there.

Anway - it's great to hear that you are all doing so well, just thought I'd pop by and say hello. I may pop in from time to time when I'm feeling the naughty urges if thats ok - can someone please slap my wrists for me

dislexicicecream · 10/01/2007 16:06

SLAP lol

dislexicicecream · 10/01/2007 16:07

lol dislexicicecream.

sweetheart thats what I'm focusing on too. Just think I need to tone up rather than lose weight. Although a couple of pounds wouldn't hurt .

sweetheart · 10/01/2007 16:39

ohhh loopity I was - and soon will be again - the gym queen!

I love my gym and actually enjoy going. I had a break over xmas, mainly as I had a stinking cold and could bearly get off the sofa.

Anyone needs motivation for gym visits I'm ya gal!

LL - I'm a firm believer in eating well and constant excercise - not diets as such and not new year resolutions that last 5 mins! I have regular, scheduled gym visits each week so I know in advance exactly when I'm going. I also play netball weekly. I think it helps to have your excercise time planned out - I write it in my diary like an appointment so I don't cancel it!

Oh god - now I really do sound obsessed!

MrsFish · 10/01/2007 17:29

Hi to all those returning to the fold

Well I LOST SEVEN POUNDS FROM THE START OF THE THREAD Until 2 weeks before xmas, then since then it seems (won;t know exactly till fri) I have put 4 of those back on so have only lost 3 in essence. So have another half a stone to lose to make the 10 pound challenge. Then the even harder work of losing another stone on top of that begins. I really don;t think I have it in me to do with this first 10 pound being so difficult. I just can't seem to sustain it long enough and I have to go so low on the calorie stakes to achieve it, it is impossible to keep up.

dislexicicecream · 10/01/2007 18:26

dont give up mrs fish!
im with u on it being hard to shift i think we all are,
i have more than 10 lbs to lose to,
i think wat i am going to do is re start this 10 lbs challenge for my self and write off the copple of lbs that i lost and didnt re gaine, so my grand toatal now is at 0 lost and 0 gained,
that makes me feel better than saying i lost x amount and then put back on blah blah,

lornaloo · 10/01/2007 20:36

Mrs Fish I think once you lose the first 10 lb that will be motivation enought to lose even more. I think the start of a diet is always the worst. Once its under way and you get into a sort of routine it will be easier.
Perhaps focus more on the exercise side of things. If you start doing loads of exercise it will speed up your metabolism which will use more cals. Also remember what marls said about muscles buring 10 times more cals than fat. So if your nice and toned you will be able to eat more.

lornaloo · 10/01/2007 20:37

Sorry that doesn't sound very clear. I ment muscles use up 10 times the amount of calories than fat uses.

Marls001 · 10/01/2007 22:24

Hi Dislexiciceream - My Dad was in the air force. Reconnisance. Are you American too?
Lorna - agree about exercise. But watch out Mrs Fish you may get addicted ... Really hated the last few months of this pg b/c I could not really incorporate the movement I'm used to, into my life. Once you start really moving sometimes it gets so ingrained that you just cannot imagine going more than 2 weeks without it ...
Love the fat % scales too Lorna ... Great for actually seeing what's really going on! I didn't like it at first b/c they charge a small fee to use it at the gym ... but now I really appreciate that they have such a scale. The gym's is a Tanita machine which probably cost them around 200 GBP. Too expensive for home use ... but Tanita also has other, less expensive, models. (www.tanita.co.uk/)

MrsFish · 10/01/2007 22:40

I have tanita scales, bloody brilliant they are

Thanks for all your replies, you are right, I need to exercise more.

Just done a four and a half mile walk tonight actually. Had a babysitter so we went to the pub. Well we walked cross country with torches to the first pub which was 1.8 miles, had a pint ( me a pint of diet coke) then walked to the next country pub which took us up to 3.4 miles, had dinner (prawn salad starter and chilli and rice for a main, with two glasses(small) of house red), then walked 1 mile home, so feel a little better. Going to gym again tomorrow and taking ds son swimming on friday.

MrsFish · 11/01/2007 20:13

Where has every one been today, very surprised no one has posted since last night

skibump · 11/01/2007 20:15

Well done Mrsfish, keep at it. Like the sound o fthe tanita scales. Apparently walking is brilliant fatburning exercise v low impact etc. I also read somewhere that drinking loads of water helps - makes sure you're not feeling hungry cos your body needs water, and helps the body break down fat more efficiently.

I've been better today went for a run (and 4 those not in UK that was some commitment given the wild weather) and have drunk about 5 glasses of water (not enough) and only eaten a small amount of chocolate Hmmm, long walk tomorrow I think

loopity · 11/01/2007 20:30

Hi mrs fish and skibump - I've been out most of day, only just logged on plus dh hogging the pc loading music .

Went for a good swim this morning - wanted to run on the treadmill but my legs were still a bit achey from yesterday so think I'll leave it until tomorrow. Can't believe that a few weeks away from it can make such a difference - going to try to push myself up to 20 mins hill run tomorrow in gym and then a bit further next week. Good for you running outdoors, skibump - weather was atrocious here! Need some encouragement to get back outside myself, soon as it got colder I stuck to the treadmill. How far do you run? I only started about a year ago - hoping to do a 10k this year.

Good luck for tomorrow everyone

Your cross-country walk to the pub sounds fantastic as well Mrs fish

MrsFish · 11/01/2007 20:55

I also came into a bit of unexpected money this morning so I am going to spend it on some sessions with a personal trainer at the gym. I reckon once a week for 12 weeks should get me into the spirit of exercise well and truly. I am also hoping that having to answer to someone weekly should spur me on too.

Still had a crap week of eating though, need to be extra good this week. I am going to do as dyslexicicecream said and start afresh with the 10 pound challenge, so from tomorrow's weigh in is when I am going to start in ernest

loopity · 11/01/2007 21:07

Good for you Mrs fish! Don't worry too much about the eating, just keep the exercise up - I know exactly how you're feeling at the moment, when you get the next few days over you, I'm sure you'll feel more into this.

OP posts:
skibump · 11/01/2007 21:09

Mrsfish, interested to hear how it goes. I have session with pt booked next week, never done that before....we'll see

Loopity, yep, splashing through puddles and generally getting blown along I have someone look after ds on Thurs pm, but only for a short time, so outside is the only option I have then. Probably went about 2.5 miles, probably took about 30 mins, so hardly any quicker than walking fast, but it makes me feel good Respect for hill running. I want to do 10km this year too, do you have any plans for where yet?

loopity · 11/01/2007 21:18

I'm in Northern Ireland so there's a few in some of the different towns. Will probably be late spring, I'll do the 5k breast cancer charity run as well - the all-female one which is UK wide. Last year's was in Belfast for Northern Ireland - mile of it was uphill, thought I was never going to make it! Haven't run any further yet than 4 miles (? k!) since starting so will need to get into training - dh is a regular runner so will need to encourage/nag me
