A nice new thread for us all and for anyone else who wants to join in our 10lb challenge

I won't bother listing the typos

skibump · 05/01/2007 00:02

Want to join in - that's all I have to do to lose the 10lbs right?!

Marls001 · 05/01/2007 00:58

Also helpful to lose weight: protein and vitamin C, making nonfat milk practically a diet drink (in the long term).

Well ... it was more convenient so I went ahead and did my weigh-in today. Don't know if something's even off on the scale, because I've lost another pound after a week of no eating and no excercise ... BUT - what I think is, I'll be seeing the effects of last week in 2 weeks from now ... always happens that way for me.

Marls001 · 05/01/2007 01:35

oops ... I meant to say "calcium", not "vitamin C" ... my DS2 has a bad cold so I guess it was on the brain

Warm welcome to LM & skibump!

loopity · 05/01/2007 12:07

Well done Marls on a further pound! I recall hearing about the relationship between calcium and weightloss as well - will maybe up my skimmed milk intake this week and see what happens.

Weighed myself and due to major festive eating I have gone back up to 9lbs to lose! Don't actually feel too bad about it - makes it all a challenge again

Good luck everyone. I promise to be very, very good this week - would be lovely if we all got a loss for next Friday x

Will also go back to daily food diary posting and regular exercise/walking (will be much easier once the lo's back to school on Monday)

Well weighed in this morning and it is as I feared, I am starting from scratch again. So 10 pound is the first milestone, I'll work on the rest after that

costababe · 05/01/2007 19:56

hi back again after a long time out, jumped on scales this moning and have made it through the xmas break without a weight gain so just 4lbs left to go. i have to say have had a very difficut time with the in laws very stressful, we spent all off new years day in a local hospital with father in law as he had steadily got iller from xmas eve, he has pnuemonia. so i think all that has contibuted to the no weight gain. they go home on monday and the los go back to school, so i will do a bit of a detox, as what i have been eating had been shite.

lornaloo · 05/01/2007 20:54

Evening everyone.
Costababe sorry to hear about your father in law. Hope he will recover soon.

Marls what was that about calcium and protein? Tell me more?

I weighed in this morn and have lost a pound since monday. I'm still up but am losing thank god.

skibump · 05/01/2007 22:58

Recognise the 2 week lag as well, so as this is my first week whatever I do Friday may see me joining a 'lose more than 10lbs' group :-)
Today got a call from a personal trainer offering a half price trial - the universe knows I need the help.

loopity · 06/01/2007 10:13

Hi skibumpWelcome aboard!

Feel as if I'm just getting back on track diet-wise now - took the weigh-in to get me focused again. I have a wedding a fortnight from today - I need to lose at least 4 lbs by then to feel comfortable in my outfit so regular nagging please! Will post my food diary later as I'm going to do this on daily basis again.

Didnt have any breakfast and will attempt to have my stewed fruit for tea

Marls001 · 06/01/2007 15:28

Lornaloo - DH subscribes to "Men's Health" magazine. That's where I get all my weight loss info!

Short answer is:

PROTEIN: Muscle is made out of protein, and (from MH): "Fat tissue burns very few calories. Skeletal muscle, on the other hand, burns at least 10 times more calories than fat, even when we're at rest."

CALCIUM: (from MH): "When you don't have enough calcium in your diet, you're more efficient at making fat and less efficient at breaking down fat, causing a bigger, fatter fat cell." They list the proper daily amount of calcium (for men) to be 1,200 mg.

Here are the articles; some are quite long & would be better printed out and perused at leisure.

article 1

article 2

another useful one

lornaloo · 07/01/2007 12:26

Hi.
Thanks for that marls.
Iv'e started doing tae bo everyday. Its really intense so I think I should prob eat more protein. Egg whites for me!
I think women are ment to have a pint of milk a day arnt they? I will try drinking a pint of skimmed milk a day.

loopity · 07/01/2007 12:39

Hi everyone
Was good during day yesterday and then out for tapas with some friends last night. Was going to drive but talked out of it as one friend over from NZ and not sure when we'll get a night out together again. Stuck to relatively healthy tapas, mostly seafood, and just one slice out of the bread basket. However several glasses of red, oops. Back to tee-total today

Well I had a sneaky peek on the scales this morning and I am 3 pound less than friday, looks like I was carrying a lot of extra fluid and it has now balanced itself out. Which means I am only four pound up instead of the seven, hopefully by friday that will have dropped even more

loopity · 07/01/2007 21:46

Today's food diary
breakfast - cup of tea
lunch - slice of toast and small can of beans
dinner - dh and I shared plate of nachos and fries after taking lo's for a swim at the gym, diet coke
now - cup of tea before heading to bed, very tired and lo's back to school tomorrow

has everyone dropped off the thread today- i weighed on friday and had lost 0.9 of a kilo since tuesday so felt quite good, blew over the weekend but the big news is i have booked 8 weeks with apersonnel trainer and tonight am goign back to slimming world so great things should be happening.

Marls001 · 08/01/2007 18:01

Mummydoc - Congrats!! And your situation sounds great. Nothing like a trainer to keep me in line ... someone else making sure I'm moving on a regular basis ... can't wait to hear!!

Food this weekend: 500+ calories oatmeal, 3 glasses whole milk, 1 vegetable smoothie, 1 coconut-banana protein smoothie, 4 pieces fried chicken, 10 arrowroot biscuits, a handful of dried fruit & a handful of almonds, 2 granola bars, bowl of Grape Nuts, bowl of veg. soup. Sat. did Pilates class; Sun. ran 8K.

Marls001 · 08/01/2007 18:02

Congrats also to MrsFish on that being mere water weight!

lornaloo · 08/01/2007 19:54

Hi everyone.
Sounds like we are all getting back on track nicely.
I weighed myself this morn, have lost another pound since friday. .
Have these new scales that measure your body fat%. There good.

costababe · 08/01/2007 20:14

Well sat was kings day and went out for the chinese, it didnt agree with me at all ,msg i think, so it all came up again and had nothing ele until sun late teatime, very small roast pork dinner.
Food today, stewed fruit for brekkie, lunch was strawberry activia yoghurt and for dinner, a small bowl of salad with waferthin ham and advocado, one shortbread finger, 3 green teas and 2 coffees.
So back on track

MrsFish · 08/01/2007 21:24

Had a crap day, ds was a pain all day and he kept me awake last night, he woke at 2am and was at least 4.30am before he went quiet again. He has been constantly whining all day. Also feeling a bit depressed, this time two years ago my dad was seriously ill in hospital he died on the 15th so that is coming up and is obviously affecting me. So food eating has been crap today, not even going to bother recounting it.

Will try and redeem myself tomorrow at the gym.

loopity · 08/01/2007 22:29

Hi everyone
I'm finding it difficult to stay on track too at the moment. Have a good day and then snack mindlessly the next - very frustrating. Think I'm eating out of boredom and need to get out of the house a bit more again (ds2 has had a viral infection and high temp which has meant that we couldn't get out and about much but looks a lot better over last day or two thankfully).

I'm going to ring gym now and book ds into creche for a few mornings this week and start running again! Will report on progress - haven't been on the treadmill in ages, eek!

Mrs Fish - my dad's anniversary was on saturday, he died four years ago so I totally sympathise with how you're feeling at the moment x
