As the first thread is full, I thought I'd start this one to dip a toe in the water and see if anyone else is still around. At the end of the last thread I think a few of us had decided to have the summer off and come back to it in September - so here I am.

Hope a few of the old gang are still around Smile

Can't believe you're still fasting - that's willpower! 2 days in a row would be beyond me.

I'm sure the scales in the shop are out, you need to weigh on the same scales in the same place to get the proper picture. Our wonky floorboards give different readings in different parts of the room Confused I've decided to ignore my weight for now as it's just fluctuating like crazy even though I actually feel slimmer. I'm going to measure myself every couple of weeks or so and see if that tells me anything different.

Justin the process of making a cottage pie after soft play this afternoon.

Hi Everyone [waving]

I never used to get on with the scales but since end of June when I started on this clean eating thingy I have found that my weight does go down, slowly but surely. I am 5ft 9 and was 14 stone 5 which was a size 16 for me and wasn't too bad in the great scheme of things. My first thrill was breaking through to 13stone 12 and now I am one pound off breaking through to 12 stone something. I had been trying for 3 years to shift some weight. I am into mindful eating and that worked for me and I didn't gain weight but couldn't get it to actually go down. So hence the total change and doing clean eating/paleo/lowish carb. I think that it had a lot to do with becoming insulin resistant as we get older so its not always about how much we eat but what we eat. Well that's my take on it anyway.

LetMeBeLight · 21/10/2015 17:17

Is it bedtime yet?! I'm really struggling this afternoon after a late night last night. We went out with friends for a curry, which was fine for me as I'm not a particular fan of curry, so it was easy not to overindulge! I even managed to stick to diet tonic water all night.

Unfortunately I have a ton of stuff to do tonight, including sawing up a couple of sofas! We're having new ones delivered at 7.30am (!) tomorrow, and the old ones don't fit down the stairs comfortably (town house). We've just had the whole house decorated so we need to be careful.

Don't believe the scales Desperately, they're definitely dodgy. Every time my scales give me a weight well above what I think it should be I think of it as a wrong reading, then don't weight myself again until I know it's gone down!!

Glad others are doing well. Hopefully you'll inspire me!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 22/10/2015 22:07

Evening all, i have fasted today and felt really well. I have gone slightly over my 500kcals and i have had some cheese - doh!

My jeans are looser, yay. I still havent weighed myself but i am popping to my friends tomorrow and i know she has scales so i might jump on them.
Fingers crossed the charity shop ones were WAY WAY out!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 23/10/2015 16:16

So i weighed myself and the scales said i was 14st not 15st (fully clothed)- thank god for that. But it means i am half a stone over my lowest in the summer - big sigh.

Friend made me a lovely lunch of goats cheese (never had it before) and chicken salad.

Just had another BPC as dinner will be much later with hubby.

Feeling good today and in the zone!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 24/10/2015 13:07

Feeling great today and have planned to have another attempt at making cauliflower pizza - this time i will use baking parchment and i will oil it first.

Our tenants moved in this morning yay so that is a massive load off of my mind - we went to wetherspoons and had a cooked breakfast to celebrate.

I can now focus on my xmas planning. I am determined to be calm, cool and organised. I also need to try out some low carb versions of xmas favourites - i will be making a low carb stuffing that uses ground almonds instead of breadcrumbs.

The top of my jeans no longer feel like spanx and i can get my finger around the waist band.

Tonight however i will be drinking some fizzy wine to celebrate.

Tomorrow is pulled pork with red cabbage coleslaw and potato wedges for those that must. Its a massive joint so i think pulled pork will feature heavily this week!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend

Fluffybrain · 25/10/2015 13:13

Now lost 50 lbs low carbing. Yay! LetMeBeLight I do the same thing. If the scales say I've gone up then it's a wrong reading. Thankfully they are not often wrong.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 25/10/2015 13:24

Well done Fluffy, thats amazing. How long has it taken you?
Got any great tips?

Just had roast lunch - pulled pork (amazing), roasted parsnips and cauli and broccoli cheese. I am supposed to be avoiding dairy but after the wine last night i needed it.

Just about to head off for a cycle ride as its lovely and sunny here.

Fluffybrain · 26/10/2015 07:52

Taken me 5 months to lose 50 lbs. Tips would be to lay off the booze wherever possible. I have only drank about 4 times and drank gin or whisky. Had slight gains with each but mainly water and comes off again quick as long as you rehydrate. Find low carb treats that you love and have them daily. I eat dark chocolate and pistachio nuts and cheese every day. I do no exercise other than walk the dogs and school run. I make sure my meals are high fat. Olives, butter, avocados, olive oil.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 26/10/2015 16:04

50lbs in 5 months is brilliant, i cant seem to lose consistently. I think i am still eating too large a portion size and i have added in fasting to see if that helps. I eat plenty of fat. I do love a drink but have far far less than i used to as it doesnt work very well with low carbing.

I am trying to reduce my dairy so its just a treat now as opposed to an every day thing.

B- BPC
L- Corned beef and cheese salad
D will be pulled pork, red cabbage coleslaw and wedges for the kids

ProfYaffle · 26/10/2015 16:05

Hello all. Am now back home after a weekend away celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. Had a really lovely dinner last night - steak topped with welsh rarebit. That's inspired me to experiment with rarebit at home, I'm imagining it with chicken breast and as an omlette filling. Can't wait to try it out.

OP posts:
Blodss · 26/10/2015 21:28

That sounds yummy Prof. Isnt rarebit cheese on toast though?

ProfYaffle · 27/10/2015 07:41

Rarebit is a mixture of cheese, egg, mustard and a small amount of beer, melted together to make a paste. Traditionally it's served on toast but it doesn't have to be. I had steak with rarebit spread on top then grilled - I can imagine it'd be nice with loads of other things too.

Afternoon all,

Seems to be lots of positives in this thread lately. Congrats on all the losses and on the anniversary Prof!

I've not weighed myself in ages so not sure how I'm doing. I'm not expecting great things to be honest. I'm out the house for about 14 hours a day at the moment, so I'm not getting much time to exercise (or am too knackered!) and the dog has a bad shoulder so is having much reduced walks. Food has been pretty good though. Just got to keep ploughing on!

Blodss · 27/10/2015 16:40

Prof sounds lovely. I don't eat dairy though but does sound like you could use it with lots of foods.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 27/10/2015 16:46

Hello all, Glad to hear you had a nice anniversary prof and the steak rarebit sounds lush, might be nice on top of chicken- drool!

I am fasting today but it has been so much easier, i did inadvertently eat half a pack of pork scratchings as i was shopping. I was feeding my kids as we went around ( i am that mother!) and i ate a few but tiny amount really. I sat in the car thinking did i eat something, it took me a minute to realise i did.

I am making a bolognaise for the kids tonight with loads of courgettes, green peppers and tomatoes in -i have bulked it out so hoping to get two meals from it. I am looking forwards to eating something in about 45 mins, i am starting to clock watch now!

I have been researching a low carb Christmas and i am determined to do it. I have found a stuffing reciepe that uses ground almonds instead of breadcrumbs and will have a frozen stash of low carb bits and bobs. Just need to work out what now! Any ideas gratefully recieved.

I made some dark choc truffles one valentines and they were nice, i am not too bothered about sweet stuff but dont want to be tied to the kitchen over christmas.

Still no exercise but its half term and we have been busy, swimming, park, cycle rides and its only tuesday!

Blodss · 27/10/2015 17:15

desperately I make a stuffing with cauliflower, coconut and almond flour, onions, apples, sage and onion and I bake it in the oven. The combination of cauliflower, coconut and almond flour tastes very bready.

ProfYaffle · 28/10/2015 07:31

That sounds good Blodss, have you got a link to a recipe for it?

OP posts:
desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 28/10/2015 07:56

Yes please to a recipe Blodds.

Ricotta was on offer in Lidl yesterday so i plan on making a mountain of ricotta and chorizo cups to freeze for xmas, they are very dairy heavy but great as a snack, breakfast or picnics.

I have my period, this has explained my overwhelming desire to eat in the last few days. Luckily i still havent unpacked my scales so i cant see them fluctuate. Hubby says my face is looking thinner.

In other news - i have nearly finished my christmas shopping and its not even November yet! I just need to avoid the mince pies and sherry whilst i wrap now which is my usual tradition and its only 6 days until i go to Madrid!

I must practice a coffee with cream please in spanish!

ProfYaffle · 28/10/2015 08:09

Another request for a recipe please! Grin I'm stockpiling Xmas recipes too. Not sure how I'm going to tackle it yet as we're staying with my parents for Xmas this year. Think I'll be arriving laden with tupperware!

OP posts:
LetMeBeLight · 28/10/2015 11:06

I'm very impressed with you all planning for a low carb Christmas!! I'm of the "sod it, it's one meal" school of thought, so I plan to have the whole thing!

That said, I don't really indulge other than Christmas dinner. I'm not hugely fond of sweet things, so never eat those (or get given them as presents) and we don't have extra treats/snacks in the house other than those that will get used on the day (and if last year is anything to go by, I'll be too busy cooking to eat any of those!) So, for me, it's all about the actual dinner.

I guess it must be different for strict no carbers who want to stay in ketosis though.

Nearly finished your Christmas shopping desperately?!? Christ alive. I was practically preening because I've already bought cards, crackers and a couple of stocking fillers! I normally have presents delivered right up to Christmas Eve, so last year I was up til about 3am wrapping! Determined to avoid that this year though, and actually do food prep on Christmas Eve so I don't spend half of Christmas Day in the kitchen.

On the recipe front, I was thinking of doing scallops and chorizo with pea puree and pea shoots to start. But I need to think of an alternative to scallops for a couple of non fish/seafood people - any ideas?!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 28/10/2015 12:27

For starter ideas, Pate or terrine is always a good fall back, a nice soup - chestnut and something? (doesnt feel xmassey to me though). Your starter sounds amazing.I am doing a low carb prawn and avocado cocktail.

I am not planning on staying in ketosis over xmas but i am trying to keep lowerish carb. For xmas pudding we are having nigella nutella cheesecake (7000 cals worth "faints"). But cream cheese is lowish carb right!

I wont have roasties but i will have parsnips. I wont buy chocs but i will make dark choc truffles. I wont drink cider but will have champagne. I will still use bisto to thicken my gravy etc - small steps but i know it will all add up. I intend to be hardcore and very low carb on the days inbetween. Imagine getting over xmas and being slimmer - not that i believe its possible.

I usually say F**k it and end up half a stone heavier and have that overindulged sicky feeling, thats what i am trying to avoid this year.

Yep food, decorations, presents and wrapping paper. I phased out cards a while ago. Our spare bedroom is Christmas HQ and kids are banned. Just need to get hubby to wrap (i am rubbish at it, while he is all military folds!)

I have also bought the supplies to make about a dozen different styles of home made decorations. I am feeling very smug so its bound to all cock up!
I have given myself insomnia and a cold sore for being a bit over invested!

Blodss · 28/10/2015 17:53

Well I don't have a recipe but I put broken up cauliflower in a baking dish, sprinkle on almond flour and ground coconut then put some sesame oil over and salt and pepper and bake until cooked and moist. If you taste it at this point it will (or should) taste rather bready and yummy. You can add your favourite flavours before you bake it. I use onions, apple, dates and herbs. I also like lemon slices in it with spring onions and put it with fish.

Blodss · 28/10/2015 17:57

Fluffybrain can you give some sample menus of what you eat in a day. 50lbs in five months is bloody amazing
