As the first thread is full, I thought I'd start this one to dip a toe in the water and see if anyone else is still around. At the end of the last thread I think a few of us had decided to have the summer off and come back to it in September - so here I am.

Hope a few of the old gang are still around Smile

Morning all.

Good to see another new face Blods. Sounds like you've been doing very well.

Weekend was a mixed bag from me. Didn't have time to do kettlebells, but got a bit of exercise doing housework, walking to shops etc. Food wise, meals were good barring the big bowl of onion rings I had with my steak and salad on saturday night. But then I didn't eat at all yesterday (did lots of cooking/baking/rushing around doing hosting stuff and I just couldn't be arsed!).

TOTM at the mo, feel a bit bleurgh, and I'm now bloody starving. It's also freezing in the office. Whinge whinge whinge!

LetMeBeLight · 12/10/2015 11:27

Meant to say, congrats Prof - 3.5 stone is an amazing loss. You seem to be one of the most disciplined on this thread and it's clearly worked wonders for you!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 12/10/2015 12:14

Hi Blods - welcome! We all do it a bit differently on this thread, i follow bootcamp and mainly keep to the strict phase. My aim this bootcamp is to eliminate or atleast reduce my dairy intake. My weightloss has been up and down this year, i had a few weeks off over the summer and have put on loads of weight. I havent weighed myself as it will too depressing but my wedding ring is really tight again. In the past 18 months i have lost about 2.5st ish but i have put some of that back on.

My way of thinking is that i was fat when i did SW and counted syns - not too mention hungry and at least with this WOE i am full and get to eat tasty food - even if i am still quite fat! I am also sure that this WOE has loads of health benefits.

We had a 65th birthday party for FIL this weekend and i ate sausages and babybel cheeses as everything else on the buffet was pastry based, i also had too many glasses of red wine. I had forgotten how ketosis and booze dont mix so i was a bit poorly sunday morning - i will not be doing that again!!

Then sunday we had our house warming dinner for my amazing friends who helped out loads with childcare and cooking meals when we moved. I made a lovely lasagne and i did eat the pasta but only a small amount. Today i am having lamb bone broth, BPCs and green smoothies to get me back on track.

Good luck everyone

ProfYaffle · 12/10/2015 15:56

I agree Desperately. I've done SW (and WW, and 5:2 Hmm) in the past and the thing they all have in common is utter misery. On all of them I've had times when I've been hungry, shaky and miserable. Actually, I wasn't that hungry on SW but I didn't lose any weight either!

This woe is satisfying, I don't struggle to eat out (so long as we avoid tea shops!) and I feel just so much better on it. Weight loss is almost secondary.

I have to say though, sausages, babybel and red wine sounds like awesome 65th birthday! Grin

Awww thank you everyone. Lovely welcome.

Desperately I gave up dairy and it made a huge difference in weight loss. Missed cheese at first but gave that up slowly. Doesn't bother me now though.

I tend to have paleo/low carb treats when the urge calls. eg flourless chocolate cake and peanut butter cookies. Helps with the urge for cake.

ProfYaffle · 13/10/2015 11:08

Sounds interesting Blods, have you got links to any recipes? I'm gathering 'treat' recipes for Xmas but after the avocado debacle I'd like some tried and tested recommendations!

I'm also trying to take note of the NSVs (non scale victories) in light of the static numbers. I've really noticed over the last few weeks that my skin is much better on this woe. I don't get rough elbows or little patches of eczema anymore and the cellulite on my thighs has reduced dramatically as well.

Peanut/almond/cashew butter ( should be sugar free as most peanut butters have some form of sugar in)
1 cup

1/3 cup brown sugar/molasses sugar or honey/maple syrup or coconut blossom sugar

1 egg

Mix all together ( you can add things like coconut, bits of dark chocolate, vanilla etc if you wish) then roll into balls and place on a baking tray with parchment paper or/and greased with coconut oil. Flatten them down a bit and you may need to use a fork as your hands will be sticky

bake in a preheated oven for 8 to 10 mins then take out and leave for ten mins and they will become hard.

Eat. Yum!

If you use molasses sugar they will be crispier

If you use honey/maple they will be softer.

Will find my flourless choc cake. It is intense and I use a dollop of tinned coconut cream with vanilla on it.
The recipes are paleoish but still lowish carb. Have a look online at paleo treats and you can change them up too suit. I don't use artificial sweetners at all but you can if you like.

Thing is, I don't have these very often but if I want something then I make it. I also make almond flour and coconut flour cupcakes etc. It has now become a way of life and the weight comes off consistently plus I feel I am eating healthier for me.

ProfYaffle · 13/10/2015 13:36

Sounds interesting. I've not made anything like that so far but I don't really have a sweet tooth so haven't been missing cake type things. I would like a few treats over Xmas without going too mad though.

LetMeBeLight · 13/10/2015 14:09

The cookies sound interesting blods, and quick and easy to make which is always a good thing!

I had a bit of a meh day yesterday. Going to have to force myself to do Kettlebells tonight after work, so will need to do a quick/simple dinner. Possibly a stir fry.

ProfYaffle · 13/10/2015 14:20

Thanks for the links, will have a browse through Smile

Your weight loss this year is inspirational Prof Smile

LetMeBeLight thanks. I don't exercise a lot but the weight is still coming off. I love stir fries. What do you put in yours?

LetMeBeLight · 13/10/2015 16:12

I'm not surprised by that Blods - don't they say something like losing weight is 80% diet? I feel like I need exercise to keep me on the straight and narrow. If I've made the effort with exercise then I'm less likely to stray on the food part - I'm a bit of an all or nothing person!

Stir frys.... A personal favourite of mine at the moment is garlic, spring onion and ginger with lots of shredded pak choi and mange tout in hoisin sauce with a duck breast sliced on top (cooked pink despite the recent advice!)

Blodss · 13/10/2015 16:16

mmmmmm! Sounds delicious. I like chicken in honey and lemon with 5 spice(homemade) with shredded iceberg lettace, peppers, spring onions, coriander leaves, mushrooms, mange tout.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 13/10/2015 16:22

I love pininterest so thanks for the link. I was intending to have 3 days off but xmas dinner and boxing day buffet are designed with low carbers in mind. Loads of meat and veg.

I am hosting this year (first time ever!) so i will get to control the menu so i will def investigate some of those recipes.

When i follow this WOE properly i dont miss sweet things that much. I had some grapes this weekend and they were so so sweet, i actually didnt like them.

I miss crunchy things like toast and the convenience of just grabbing a sandwich. I also miss something to dip into soup and nachos. I am not good with moderation so getting away from these things is doing me good so i can have them as a treat OCCASIONALLY when i start maintaining although paleo is def where i think i am heading diet wise for the future. Wheat gives me IBS symptoms.

I have tried really hard this week with the no dairy, i am no longer eating cheese on its own (4 babybels at fils party however) and i havent had any cream but then it is only tues.

I cant get into the exercise yet. I have spent a busy day cleaning our old house ready for rental and now i ache all over so that has to have done some good. When i get back from my hols, i am def going to hit 30 day shred in prep for the party season.

I havent eaten enough today and i am so hungry but more of an empty and drained rather than sick and shakey hungry if that makes sense! Roll on dinner. Chicken and bacon in a tomato sauce with roasted broccoli.

Blodss · 13/10/2015 16:27

I read Amelia Freers book and have Ella's book too. They inspired me to eat clean and it has made a big difference. I started off eating mindfully years ago and once I got used to that I drifted into eating for optimal nutrition and am here today.

LetMeBeLight · 13/10/2015 16:57

Your stir fry also sounds really good Blods!

Sounds like you have been very busy Desperately! Cleaning definitely counts as exercise in my book. I'm sure I watched some BBC documentary where cleaning the house burned more calories than an hour sweating it out with a personal trainer - because the cleaning, while less intensive, was done over several hours and the gym was only one hour.

ProfYaffle · 13/10/2015 17:10

Oh, yyy to missing the convenience of grabbing a sandwich! Even when I ate carbs I was never mad on bought sandwiches (always chilled with soggy bread, bleugh) but it's knowing I can't just grab something that gets to me.

Re stuff to dip in soup, I sometimes make muffin in a minute. It's kind of bready, has holes in which soak up the liquid, so it's not a bad stop gap.

Morning all, i ave another hectic day planned but get to meet my friends new baby so lots of cuddles with a newborn. Both kids slept for 12 hrs and i was asleep by 10 so i feel like a new woman.

So its playgroup, banking and then lunch with a friend. I have morrocan lamb with cauli rice for dinner. I am not hungry yet so i will save my BPC and green smoothie until i head out of the door.

Not sure about lunch yet, something my left over lamb bone broth. I will also be making another batch of chicken stock and will do something asian with it as it keeps me away from dairy.

Have a good day everyone

ProfYaffle · 14/10/2015 08:08

Sounds like a plan. Morrocan lamb sounds lovely, I've got a ton of lamb in the freezer so might have to try that.

My 1lb loss has stuck so - hoorah! My MFP graph has flatlined since August so it's a relief to get some movement at last.

LetMeBeLight · 14/10/2015 11:35

Morning all! I had a bad day yesterday. Work got in the way and I didn't get home til gone 9pm, so no kettlebells and even worse, pizza for dinner.

Nevermind, today is a new day, had a nice brisk walk this morning and I have tomato and kale soup for lunch and I WILL be using my neglected kettlebell this evening and cooking something healthy for dinner!

Blodss · 14/10/2015 16:08

desperately cuddling the baby sounds lovely.

Prof YaY!! to weight moving again. Just when you feel like giving up sometimes isn't it.

Let Don't worry about yesterday. Its gone. In the great scheme of things blips don't matter as long as you let them go. (im sure you know that anyway) Smile

I did ok yesterday. Had a couple of paleo treats as was suffering from a cold. Being stricter today. Big bowl of veg soup and beef stew for dinner and small bowl for lunch.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 14/10/2015 20:34

I had a good day today, lots of lovely cuddles with a 6 week old baby - so little.

Lunch was leftover lamb fried in oil on a bed of salad leaves with dressing and minty mayo. Just had my Moroccan lamb with cauli rice - lots of lamb today.

I didnt eat enough so ended up munching in some cheese - doh! I did manage to drink lots of water so thats good.

Well done prof on breaking your plateaux, thats great news.

Letme, thats the attitude climbback on the wagon its only a tiny blip, good luck with the kettlebells.

Blodds - hope you feel better soon.

Blodss · 14/10/2015 21:09

Thank you desperately.

ProfYaffle · 15/10/2015 08:19

minty mayo sounds nice, how to you make it?
