As the first thread is full, I thought I'd start this one to dip a toe in the water and see if anyone else is still around. At the end of the last thread I think a few of us had decided to have the summer off and come back to it in September - so here I am.

Hope a few of the old gang are still around Smile

I agree - you find what works for you. Sticking to a one size fits all plan is where I've gone wrong in the past.

Hope everyone is okay today.

What are effects of the oestrogen Always? Know nothing of this.

AlwaysBeYourself · 14/12/2015 13:18

Oestrogen from dairy is very high due to cows lactating and being pregnant to increase milk yield. It is a growth hormone we do not need after weaning. Women undergoing treatment for oestrogen dependant cancers are told to give up dairy completely as it causes tumours to grow. Look online. It is also advised you give up dairy if you have period problems. Smile

AlwaysBeYourself · 14/12/2015 13:24

I have evolved with my eating from binging starving when younger to diets to eating mindfully which then led me to believing that you are what you eat. Everything you eat is either going to fight disease and keep you at optimum health or potentially cause disease.

AlwaysBeYourself · 14/12/2015 13:28

These are only my views though through what I have researched and studied. We all have our own views and story to tell. Blush

Fluffybrain · 14/12/2015 17:33

Interesting. I think I am too reliant on dairy at present and on the long term I would want to reduce the amount I have. I wouldn't want to cut it out because I'm veggie and don't want to be vegan. But at the moment it's the cheese that keeps me going alongside the nuts and the dark chocolate!

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 14/12/2015 17:54

I'm back on LC to try to lose a bit before Xmas. I'll stop for Xmas then go back on proper in the NY.

LC works well for me BUT always gives me UTI-like symptoms from time to time. I think the ketones must irritate my urethra or something.

Googling brings up loads of people saying the same thing. I think I'll have to try to work out how many carbs to have in order to still lose weight - albeit slowly - but avoid the UTI thing.

AlwaysBeYourself · 14/12/2015 20:06

Fluffy I would have thought as a vegetarian that your diet is very good. All those Pulses, beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas, vegetables and fruit are amazingly good for you and protective.
Of course the bigger picture is that with cancer increasing at an alarming rate that the western diet is in need of a change. 5 a day is nowhere near enough but the government believes its all we can handle whilst the real figure is somewhere near 15 per day (fruit and veg). Alcohol, The Pill, cosmetics, detergents and all those things we spray to clean our house, the water from taps etc is all contributing to the issue.
Sorry, I shall shut up now but once your eyes have been open to the role of food in keeping our bodies as healthy as possible its hard to close them again.

Nadoligllaweneto · 14/12/2015 20:40

Interesting reading. Im also eating lower carb/paleo/cleaner eating. Have read about the affects that dairy can have as well and now don't eat it.
Yes to the 5 per day not being enough.
I have been eating this way for awhile now and slowly losing weight and feeling better.

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 17/12/2015 07:21

Marking place and hoping everyone is doing okay.

Xmas Smile
princessconsuelabannahammock · 17/12/2015 09:12

I am ticking along, not being very low carb but not sliding head long into carbs either. My legs have finally stopped hurting from kettlebells. I have been spinning and i managed the whole class yay!

I made an amazing soup - HFW butternut squash and peanut butter. I will be having that for lunch this week. Have a good week everyone

Fluffybrain · 17/12/2015 21:29

I have broken through my plateaux and lost 2 pounds. One more to be normal bmi.

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 18/12/2015 07:12

Ooo, like the sound of the soup princess.

Excellent on the 2lbs Fluffy.

I am currently stuck at the same weight even though I'm being good: I suspect I may eat too little some days, not far too low, but not quite enough. Will make more of an effort to get veg in and have proper meals - I'm sometimes not that hungry in the evening and have a snacky tea.

On the plus side, am getting lots of good comments about how well I look and how much weight I've lost. I'm feeling so much happier in myself.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 18/12/2015 07:57

Fluffy well done you, 1lb from normal BMI is amazing, what an xmas present to give yourself!

Kinky, i was doing the same and not losing weight but not putting any on either and i have decided to up my veg for more variety and better nutrition - hence the soup. Its lovely and very filling. Sadly i am the only one that likes it so it means i have had it alot this week and now getting a bit sick of it - will freeze some next time. Later this week i am making a butternut squash and chorizo - its proper cold weather soup! However its very mild here. Glad you are feeling happier, its nice to know its working.

I havent lost any weight, but my lovely friend who i havent seen for a few weeks said i had lost weight. I havent but i think that the exercise is toning me up and hubby said it was easier to get his arms around me ( i am not quite that big! but i took the compliment regardless).

Today i have a run up the zig zag coastal path then kettlebells later - ouch! Wish me luck i am going to need it!!!

ProfYaffle · 19/12/2015 11:11

Well done Fluffy! You must be thrilled :)

I'm still trundling along. Had a hospital appointment with dh in opthamology a couple of days ago. His vision is fine, in fact better than average so that's a massive relief. His vision should hopefully stay as it is now and they also said there's no chance of a sudden catastrophic loss of sight or anything like that (that's what dh was worried about) So now it's just a case of waiting for the surgery date to come through. We both feel a lot easier now though.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 19/12/2015 13:03

Prof thats great news for your husbands sight, glad you are both coming to terms with the shock, bloody awful time of year for it - not that there is a better time tbf!

I managed to run up the zig zags, in fact i did a million times better than i thought i would, all that spinning and HIIT training has certainly improved my fitness. I however wimped out on kettlebells, my legs were killing me and i hadnt eaten properly and just nearly cried at the thought - its that brutal.

Today i am mostly doing my christmas housework - the joy but the moment i turn around the kids have messed it all up again! I am out with friends for xmas drinks and i cant wait. The sad thing is after a year on the woe i am wearing the same dress i wore last year - i had hoped by now it would be so small i would be using it for dusters! But atleast it isnt too small.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 19/12/2015 13:53

ah haha too large - should say

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 19/12/2015 20:48

Prof great news for you about DH's vision Flowers. I'm really pleased you're both finding it a bit easier.

princess have a great time tonight. A different dress for next year maybe?

I'm thinking of adding quorn back in as I miss it and still struggle with different meats. Just quorn for some meals, not all. Is it Fluffy who is vege?

I've had an awful eating day today. I haven't cheated, but I've been snacking most of the day. I've picked up a cold, I feel wiped out and unable to do much. It's been so hard staying away from the stuff I've got in for Christmas, like already open mince pies and chocs. I have, but I know I've overeaten loads.

It's just so hard at times!

ProfYaffle · 20/12/2015 07:39

I have snacky days like that too. I stay low carb but eat too much volume wise. tbh it doesn't bother me too much so long as it's not every day and doesn't become a habit.

Princess - I looked up the peanut butter and squash soup, it sounds lovely and I'm tempted to give it a whirl. Did you really use a whole jar of peanut butter? How was the soup to eat, it sounds very rich?

OP posts:
princessconsuelabannahammock · 20/12/2015 09:22

Morning, the soup was rich, it tastes like satay sauce. I would add half the peanut butter then add more. I didnt have enough coriander and i would add more next time. I also added soy sauce.

I had way too many bacardi and d cokes last night but off for a run in a mo, that should sort me out

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 20/12/2015 12:04

Hope it was a good night princess.

Thanks Prof. Have more of a grip today. I think part of the panic comes from having lost weight and being terrified I'm going to regain it all again, like I have a hundred times before. Every 'greedy' day makes me feel like I'm slipping. Hopefully I will relax a bit and settle down. I think if I stick to the fundamentals and exercise, I will be okay. Big changes after over 30 years of ingrained poor habits.

princessconsuelabannahammock · 20/12/2015 16:56

Kinky, i had a fab night but ate chicken skewers and chips as an after pub snack! Ooopss.

I did go for a run this morning and i was very smug all day. However i am now feeling pretty rotten and need a good nights sleep as i was up at 7am, then out all day doing loads of xmas stuff with the kids. I think i am going to have a break from low carbing over xmas - i just cant do it, the carbs keep calling me. So instead of feeling guilty and horrible for cheating i am going to give myself a week or so off and start again after xmas.

I will keep up my exercise over xmas - in fact i intend to do more as hubby will be here.

I know how you are feeling Kinky, thats why partly i have given myself a week off, so i have a measurable amount of time and then it stops again and i get back on the woe again. Its my plan anyway.
Also if you have a cold your body probably needs it, so give yourself a break. Try and focus on good nutrients and 3 meals if you can. When i snack all day long i tend to feel more out of control, the 3 meals a day thing works better for me.Get well soon

ProfYaffle · 20/12/2015 17:07

"if I stick to the fundamentals and exercise, I will be okay". I think this is true. I understand the panic at loss of control. At the moment, exercise is my totem. I'll be having a week off over Xmas (because with everything else we have to take, I'm not dragging 18k of weights 350 miles to my Mum's house!) which is panicking me a bit but I'm sure I'll be back on it by 28th Dec.

OP posts:
KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 20/12/2015 17:42

Thanks both of you Xmas Smile.

I'm not able to swim for the next couple of weeks as the pools have run down their timetable for the holiday. Plan to try and get out and walk, which is definitely made easier by the unseasonally warm weather. Should swim for the last time tomorrow.

Agree that taking the weights might be a bit extreme Prof Xmas Grin.

I think it's probably the cold too princess. It sounds like it was a good night out and you are setting limits for yourself which gives you that flexibility to enjoy without guilt. That approach must help sustain this over the long term.

KinkyDoritoWithJingleBellsOn · 22/12/2015 08:52
Xmas Smile

Little Christmassy bump.

Living in fear off letting DD do baking today, not because I'm at risk of eating it, because I have to clean up afterwards...
