As the first thread is full, I thought I'd start this one to dip a toe in the water and see if anyone else is still around. At the end of the last thread I think a few of us had decided to have the summer off and come back to it in September - so here I am.

Hope a few of the old gang are still around Smile

Hello all Smile.

I have a headache that will not shift. I'm nearly a month in, so surprised it is not going. Wondered if anyone else had experienced similar?

Desperately glad you had a lovely break.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 13/11/2015 14:07

Kinky - try a stock cube or marmite dissolved in hot water and then a pint of water. Could be that your salt levels are too low. Potassium from spinach, avocado and yoghurt are supposed to help - i think!

KinkyDorito · 13/11/2015 19:54

Thanks I had a banana (I'm paleo not low carb) and a couple of brazil nuts, but it didn't shift. Salt intake has been okay. Do think I've been in ketosis though as had the thirst - I have done low carb before and been in ketosis, so I recognise the signs. I've had more carbs today to try and feel better - apple, banana, sweet potato for tea. Fingers crossed it will improve. I'm having another go at Whole 30, but it is mega strict so not sure how long I will last. I'm not supposed to snack and it's killing me! Grin

Blodss · 13/11/2015 20:23

Kinky maybe you are coming down with a bug. I do paleo and sometimes go quite low carb

KinkyDorito · 14/11/2015 09:11

I'm starting to think it might be something else Blodss. I'm still off work atm with Fibro, so might be that - although it is a new symptom - or wondering if it's sinuses. Will try Sudofed today. It's still bad and I'm really not with it Sad.

KinkyDorito · 14/11/2015 09:13

I've also dropped the dairy and am going to drop the IF for now, focusing on 3 paleo meals each day.

Blodss · 14/11/2015 19:33

If you have felt worse after ditching dairy could it be a reaction to that?
Your body detoxing a bit.

Is anyone else experiencing a change in menstrual cycle? My periods have always been regular as clockwork but a fairly long cycle of 32 days. The last 2 months have been more like 26 days which is really unusual for me. I'm 43 so it could be peri menopause issues too (deep joy)

OP posts:
Blodss · 15/11/2015 12:09

Prof you have to be careful with very low carb as many women report hair loss and period issues. That's one of the reasons I do paleo. Do you go too low and miss out on some nutrients maybe?

ProfYaffle · 15/11/2015 13:30

No, I don't think so. Overall I feel fantastically healthy and more energetic on this woe, it just suits me down to the ground. My gut feeling is it's age related especially as I've been doing this since January and this has only started just now. I'm more wondering whether my previous high carb woe was skewing my hormones and now they're more regulated.

OP posts:
Blodss · 15/11/2015 13:42

Could just be peri meno then Smile

Blodss · 15/11/2015 13:43

It is said to start ten years before menopause proper

ProfYaffle · 15/11/2015 13:43

Yes, I have a sinking feeling that's it.

OP posts:
Blodss · 15/11/2015 13:48

Why sinking feeling ? Smile

ProfYaffle · 15/11/2015 14:13

I'm not so bothered about getting older per se, I'm just apprehensive. Some women seem to really suffer with menopause so I'm a bit worried about the physical side of it. My Mum didn't have hers til her late 50s so I assumed I'd be the same and wouldn't have to worry about it too much just yet. Mum seemed to more or less sail through hers so I hope I take after her in that respect.

Hi prof on the first bootcamp after my boy was born i had a very light period of 3 weeks out of every month but then i had given birth only a few months earlier! Now i am regular again but my cycle is shorter. I get less PMT and associated ills so i cant really complain. There was an explanation on the bootcamp thread and it was something to do with fat cells releasing oestrogen and basically it was a good sign that you were losing weight - or something!

I have been KOKO this week or so, i havent had enough water or paid enough attention to my nutrient levels and have been eating low carb things but not enough veg and proper food. I intend to remedy that this week. I still havent unpacked my scales (a good thing) but my new skinnys which were like spanx are now no longer cutting off a vital blood supply!

5 weekends until Christmas and i am very excited. I am still loving fasting and will keep that going up until Christmas. I am going to try Alternate day fasting until the big day - that was the science that the health benefits of 5:2 were based on and wrongly attributed to. Also being very vain i would love to wear something sparkly for christmas and not something black and tent like!

I have a lovely minced beef curry in the slow cooker and will serve it with cauli rice, it smells lush.

KinkyDorito · 15/11/2015 16:46

I'm on the something sparkly bandwagon too desperately. I'm down 2.5st since last year and always wear a tent/no make up. If I am sacrificing chocolate/cake/mince pies/stollen, etc, etc I fully intend to treat myself to a nice sparkly top and earrings. I'm not a clothes person at all, but I feel pleased with what I've achieved and want to have something nice for a change.

On periods - first low carb I did, I bled for 6 weeks solid. I read it was the body releasing oestrogen that gets trapped in excess fat. It can affect your cycle.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 16/11/2015 08:51

Morning all, today i am doing my first day of alternate day fasting and i am feeling hungry already. For some reason i decided to eat 4 choc biscuits last night - bangs head on wall! Today is going to be a challenge i think!

Painter is due to finish today so i can put everything back tomorrow and make the house look nice - it makes my hubby very unsettled (grumpy) when its a mess.

This weekend we sorted out our bedroom and put all my clothes away. I am currently a large 16 but when i unpacked all my clothes i found all my 14s. I have put them within easy reach as i hope to be in them early in the new year - i might have to do another cull as its been 5 yrs since i last wore them and i would imagine some will look really dated!

So no food except a green smoothie and a small bowl of soup for me later but lots of water and keeping busy to keep my mind off food!

Have a great week everyone.

Blodss · 16/11/2015 12:44

Interesting re the menstrual cycles. Mine were never affected by eating this way. If you are overweight your body produces too much estrogen anyway which is why they advise women to keep slim. Dairy also contains very high amounts of estrogen which is one of the reasons it is not good for women.

Blodss · 16/11/2015 12:45

Oestrogen grrrrr!

Blodss · 16/11/2015 12:46

Desperately good luck today.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 16/11/2015 12:53

I am going ok, havent actually eaten an arm off yet! I have just caved a little and had a cup of chinese style chicken broth - very spicy but very few cals but is lovely and warm in my tummy. For some reason i am motivated to cook today so i am making more stock, prepared dinner and have got some bits out to make a slow cooker stew for later in the week.

Then i will finish folding, sorting and putting away of washing - that should take me most of the afternoon!

Blodss · 16/11/2015 13:28

I hav'nt eaten anything yet as not hungry

Fluffybrain · 16/11/2015 14:43

Desperately, good luck. I tried alternate day fasting a couple of years ago. I managed it ok for a few weeks. But I didn't lose any weight and my hair started to fall out and my periods went weird so I stopped!

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 16/11/2015 18:56

Well today is nearly over, i have had my 500 kcals and i am hungry but thats probably due to all the sugar i ate last night in the biscuits! I am looking forwards to bed and have gotten some bacon out of the freezer for a nice breakfast tomorrow. I might paint my nails tonight and we have gone girl to watch (the book was fab). 12 hrs and counting until i can eat again!!!
