16 st Low Carbing part 2

ProfYaffle · 15/09/2015 12:27

As the first thread is full, I thought I'd start this one to dip a toe in the water and see if anyone else is still around. At the end of the last thread I think a few of us had decided to have the summer off and come back to it in September - so here I am.

Hope a few of the old gang are still around Smile

Made a decision i am not in the right place to do adf, so back to low carbing. I knocked myself out of ketosis so perhaps when i am back on it properly i can have another bash.

I have had a BPC for breakfast and dinner tonight will be roasted pork, broccoli and swede mash with gravy. Pork crackling, yummy.

I might need to go sparkly dress shopping as that should give me an incentive to koko.

ProfYaffle · 17/11/2015 12:06

I can't cope with fasting at all, it does strange things to me psychologically. I find on none fast days I go back to the 'eat all you can while you've got the chance' mode I used to have when I ate carbs. When I just lc I totally lose that obsession.

As you probably remember I have dabbled with fat fasts and they do work but I've decided to knock them on the head as, for me, it's just not mentally healthy.

Glad to hear it desperately. Enjoy your pork crackling! I really like the expression 'incentive to koko'. Today I've had veggie sausage and egg, tomato and basil soup with chunks of cheese in, pistachio nuts, dark chocolate, soya yoghurt, and for dinner I will probably have halloumi and avocado salad.

Blodss · 17/11/2015 22:29

I think the 14/10 fast is recommended for woman and are hormones according to Marks Daily Apple. I manage to do this naturally. I don't eat anything after my last meal and then have my next meal 14 hours later. You can do 16/8 too. Tends to pop you back into ketosis too.

KinkyDorito · 18/11/2015 07:59

Interesting on fasting.

I did it for a couple of weeks and my weight loss stalled. Now I'm whole 30 which insists on 3 meals a day - but no snacks - I am naturally falling into that 14/10 and I've dropped a couple of pounds since I started at the end of last week. (Not that I'm supposed to be weighing myself. Blush)

However, symptoms since stopping dairy have really improved and I'm finally feeling like I'm starting to get better. Smile I do think this is working for me. Early days yet - but I've been paleo-ish about a month now and can see a big difference in how I feel.

KinkyDorito · 18/11/2015 08:00

What's a fat fast Prof? Is that one where you have BPC?

KinkyDorito · 18/11/2015 08:01

When I say paleo-ish, is because I did fasting and now W30 too. It's been strict (except the odd stock cube).

ProfYaffle · 18/11/2015 08:08

I find on LC I naturally fall into a 15/9 pattern.

Kinky - a fat fast is about 900 calories a day for 3 days but 90% of the calories come from fat. It's supposed to tip you really rapidly into deep ketosis. I found it doable but really dull, think I lost about 3 or 4lbs on it. Then I tried mixing it up with 5:2 so 5 days normal, 2 fat fast. But now I'm not doing anything!

Glad its making you feel better Kinky, the whole 30 seems really strict. I have had a little bash at fasting and adf but my heart isnt in it so i am just going back to what works. I ate half the biscuit tin last night. I am a bit stressed about an event coming up on sunday and the pressure makes me munch. Also i think i have pmt - my mood is a lot worse than normal and i am wondering if my eating loads of dairy is triggering it?

I need to go sparkly dress shopping as the changing room mirrors will set me back on the right track when i suddenly realise i am not as slim as i think i am!

I have no energy or motivation today and i have tonnes to do but thankfully DD is at grannys from lunchtime and i did tonnes of housework yesterday.

Blodss · 18/11/2015 09:05

Desperate like the others I find that I naturally go into a 14/10 16/8 15/9 type of fast from last meal night till first meal next day. The 16/8 is mentioned on Fast website and is very doable if you want to try it once you get back on track.
Yesterday I had:

Scrambled egg and tomato

Lots water

Ham salad and little mayo on side plate

Half a coconut sachet ( the solid coconut in boxes for curry)

Blodss · 18/11/2015 22:58

How's everyone today? I have done really well this week so far.
Today
Nothing to eat till 5.00
One madjool date
Roasted chicken thigh with mashed swede and carrot
Couple of squares of Rococo Rose dark chocolate

ProfYaffle · 19/11/2015 06:38

I am SO sore today! Yesterday I did just over an hour's digging on the allotment followed by a long kettlebell workout - all on an empty stomach as I didn't eat til lunchtime. By the end of the workout I was properly running on empty, really struggling to summon the energy to move. And this morning my quads are complaining like anything.

On the plus side though I made a gorgeous dinner - roast pork loin with crackling, roasted leeks and chard stir fried in butter.

Glad everyone is having a good week i am having a shocker! Cant get in the zone i think pmt is messing with my head. I have eaten all the choc biscuits i bought for christmas aarrggh. I havent done any exercise but i have found my trainers so therefore i now have no excuses left.

Blodss · 19/11/2015 12:10

That sounds lovely Prof. I don't use dairy so might try frying some in olive oil . Too much fat can give me tummy aches though

Blodss · 19/11/2015 12:13

Desperate it sounds like your in the grips of a binge. Are you seeing this woe as a "diet"? If so I think it is easier to lose the plot and binge. What treats do you have in for yourself when you eat this way?

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 19/11/2015 13:43

I am def seeing this as a woe rather than a diet, i had read the science and believe its healthier way of eating. I think its a combination of pmt and stress - i am a total comfort eater. I have an event coming up this weekend that i am not looking forwards to, when thats over i will be able to relax again.

KinkyDorito · 19/11/2015 14:43

What about making yourself some fat bombs or other low carb treats? Just for PMT week when you know you have to be kind to yourself.

Fluffybrain · 19/11/2015 21:19

Felt a bit under the weather today so have only eaten soya yoghurt, blueberries, scrambled eggs and dark chocolate today.

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 20/11/2015 10:24

Get well soon fluffy, the bugs have invaded our house and my DD who is 3 spent all night coughing, so i fed her bone broth (and calpol) for breakfast, she was determined to go to nursery. Hoping the so called magical properties of bone broth are correct.

I have had bacon and cheese for breakfast and a bpc, i am trying to get back on track.

Just had some more bad news about my grans health so i am trying not to comfort eat, luckily there are no biscuits left in the house (as i have already eaten them!).

Fluffybrain · 20/11/2015 10:48

Thanks desperately. I am sorry to hear you've had bad news about your Gran. My DS2 is 3 and off nursery with lurgy. He had calpol for breakfast too. Now fallen asleep on me!

KinkyDorito · 20/11/2015 11:17

Sending love to both of you Fluffy and desperately. Be kind to yourselves Thanks.

Blodss · 20/11/2015 11:50

Hope you feel better soon Fluffy
Desperately both my parents are seriously ill and it can throw you but my way of dealing with it is to eat the best I can, it helps me focus and ground myself. Does that make sense Blush

desperatelyseekingamovingdate · 20/11/2015 12:10

My gran is always banging on about me being a big chubba so if i told her i stuffed my face because i was sad she would tear a strip off of me and tell me not to be so bloody stupid - bless her.

Blodds sorry to hear about your parents. This woe is good for us and i can see that it can provide me with a positive focus, i just need to wallow for a day then get a frigging grip. With my gran she had the all clear from cancer for 1 day then her back went but now they are worried she might have bone cancer and not the trapped nerve she thought. She is currently in a wheelchair which is torture for her as she is a busy workaholic even at 84 ( she was planning on building an extension on my great aunts house!).

I am trying to keep myself busy and will go and visit her this weekend.

Blodss · 20/11/2015 12:18

When will you know what her back problem is ? My Dad was given 2 months to live last April and is still here and he says he will beat it. My mum is on dialysis and needs a transplant. They are both making the most of life though and inspirational.

ProfYaffle · 20/11/2015 14:22

dh and I are just back from hospital, they think his eye problem could be related to the tumour. They've confirmed that it's grown again since last year so it's likely he'll have more surgery. On the positive side they've developed a new keyhole technique in the last couple of years so it should hopefully be a relatively small op and not a full on craniotomy like the last 2 times.

Bit weird really, it's kind of a relief to have some positive action re getting the tumour out for once and for all but scary all the same.
