I am starting this thread to take up from the 10 stone one. That thread has given me a lot of strength and hope and I would like to continue that dialogue but thought it might need freshening up. Champs speak to me! Hows it going and how many new food types can you alert me to?
Any more takers for the long haul speak now!

Totaly agree about reunions Bran! We are about to have 20 year after nurse training reunion and I really dont want to go. As you say I see al the ones I want to and the god squad who dressed in tabards and sang to guitars or the ones with pearls who had bikes with big baskets can sod off!

I love it in Dublin. Hotels with wifi! Also the place has a laid back vibe which is a joy to work in.

I need joy today as my kids have chased off my new nanny and I am in despair and for the first time in my life I am ashamed of the two eldest. they humiliated her and bullied her out of a job in less than a week and now my child care has collapsed and I am away! May have to take to drink or chocolate have resisted so far. DH keeps phoning to ask me what to do and is now getting on my nerves as there is little I can do at this distance.

at your nanny troubles Glitter. What a pity she couldn't stick it out at least until you got home. I never had a nanny, but I used to go through baby sitters very quickly.

Do your children respond to stern talkings to? Perhaps they would go with a contract of some sort, where they agree to co-operate with the nanny even if they disagree with her, and to raise their disagreements with you at the end of every week so compromises can be reached. (I really have no experience at all in this area, can you tell? ) Perhaps you could implement some nasty consequences straight away, since there's no nanny each elder child could get a younger sibling up and dressed every morning, or other irksome chores and when they complain say "well I would have had time to do it if we still had a nanny, but we don't so you have to".

Enjoy your trip as much as you can, it sounds as though you'll be descending into chaos when you get home. If you're going to turn to drink (and really who could blame you), eat a big, low-fat meal first so that you don't end up having a curry or a kebab.

Glitter!!! what a nightmare... What is dh saying? I would have thought nanny would have stayed too bran

glitterfairy · 22/09/2004 01:55

Hello all, can I sneak back in and pretend that I haven't really eaten everything in sight all summer ? I've decided I'm going back to WW next month and am starting to count points again as of this week to work up to it, managed Monday, blew it yesterday, doing well so far today but then it's only 8.30 ! I'm hoping that by the time I get back to WW I'll be the same weight I was before the summer, then I want to shift a stone between October and Christmas. Think I might need a big boot up the backside to get me going properly again though, a big kick and your best motivational tips please !!!

clairabelle · 22/09/2004 09:35

I'll sneak in with you KP

Kittypickle · 22/09/2004 09:45

Hi there CB, hope you're all well

clairabelle · 22/09/2004 09:53

Hi Kp fine thanks and you? Long time no speak sorry, I don't know where the summer has gone. Will email you if that's ok

glitterfairy · 22/09/2004 10:38

Hi Guys and dont sneak we have all been there! I had lost loads of weight in the spring and then put loads back on and it took a friend to put me back on the right track! I am determined now and am setting myself lots of little challenges aong the way. I find that if they are challenges I make up I am less likely to let myself down!

Bran have re read your post on nanny and am very impressed by your contract idea and am going to have a big family meal on Saturday and talk it out with them. It is the sort of thing I do at work and somehow much of my inspirational stuff falls apart at home I must make an effort to sort things out better.

Have hardly eaten a thing for four days apart from my sisters lovely meal and need to start looking after myself better too but woke up and phoned home then had a good cry and am now pulling myself together.

Hi Kittypickle and Clairabelle. I think a stone by Christmas is a very achieveable goal KP, but why are you waiting until next month to go to WW? I'm perfectly happy to give you kick anytime you want, but I believe Champs has a big whip which you may find even more motivating .

What are you planning to do Clairabelle? Diet on your own, follow a diet from a book, or join something like WW or Slimming World and go to meetings?

I've been going to WW for 7 weeks now, and I have about 7 stone to lose (I might lose an extra 2 lb because that would be a nice round 100). So far I've lost 12.5 lb at a fairly steady pace, never less than 1 lb a week, never more than 2.5 lb. At last night's weigh-in I'd lost 1.5 lb .

Glitter, I hope your childcare situation gets sorted out soon, will you have to go through the whole interviewing procedure again? That'll take ages. Tell the kids you'll send them all to boarding school if they scare off the next nanny, that'll put the wind up them .

bran · 23/09/2004 14:31

And Glitterfairy - EAT! You can't be expected to cope if your blood sugar is plummeting. Remember - slow release, low-fat foods. Have a chicken sandwich with wholemeal bread, and some fruit.

champs · 23/09/2004 18:11

hi Kp and CB!! as glitter rightly said no sneaking needed here! LOL@ Bran.... my whip is not as hard as glitters.

Bran--- You are doing really well, That goal is getting closer and closer.

Glitter--- Bran is right you must eat my hun. Please look after yourself it must be ever so stressfull at the mo. We're here to lend an ear or two, or four....

anyone heard from jennisaurus and moniker??!!

glitterfairy · 23/09/2004 20:02

Guys thank you so much! Have eaten although so stessed I had to see an EN|T consultant today as my glands had become swollen adn he said stress. \So have had a few g&T's and am now fine!

Am off to eat now! Hurrah for alcohol it is needed sometimes!

OP posts:
bran · 23/09/2004 20:57

If the consultant actually prescribed alcohol then you must still be in Dublin . I hope everything sorts itself out soon. There's nothing you can do until you get home, so you might as well forget it and have fun (that's fun but not calories [stern smiley]).

Did you have a second choice when you interviewed for the last nanny, would the second choice still be available?

Kittypickle · 23/09/2004 21:19

Glitter - sorry things are so stressful at the moment, hope it improves very soon.

Bran - that sounds like it's going well. I'm planning to go back in October as my Mum has just moved down here a week ago and has a hip problem. I have been and still am running around like a headless chicken trying to sort her out and my children out. Plus it's my 35th birthday in a few weeks and I figured that is a very good time to get serious about it.

Champs - can you get the whip ready for Oct 18th then please ?

CB, would be lovely to have an email from you if you get the chance

glitterfairy · 23/09/2004 22:25

Have had a crap few days of dieting but will sort mayself out when home! Bran no number two choice and phoned ballet today to say that I amy be restricting their after school curriculum as a punishment!

Chinchilla · 24/09/2004 20:02

I joined WW two weeksa ago, and then went to Cornwall for a week, where I didn't pig out, but still ate what I wanted. I lost....4 pounds!!!

bran · 24/09/2004 22:52

of Chinchilla. I am very good, and track everything I eat, and usually go a point or two under, and I've never lost more than 2.5. Are you here for the long haul Chinchilla, or are you just going to drop in when you have something to boast about .

I've just been watching Green Wing and there was a lot of cake eating going on, so I have quite a bad craving for chocolate fudge cake. I thought the chocolate addiction was supposed to have worn off by now, perhaps once you're an addict you're never truly free.

KP, I can see why you're waiting until October. Are you going to have a big birthday blow out before you join up? I would.

Chin up Glitterfairy, I still think you're amazing.

glitterfairy · 26/09/2004 11:49

Back to the gym this morning Bran and thank you! Am home now and have actually unpacked! Am not going away again until Tuesday and I have checked that the hotel has a gym.

My eating also went pear shaped this week and yes Bran I reckon that it is like alcoholism once you start you cant stop and you will always have an addiction mentality! Sorry for being depressing but I know once I start eating badly I am drawn to it and even after the gym this morning thought "What harm would a croissant do?"

I resisted and will behave again as I dont want to slip back now.

OP posts:
bran · 26/09/2004 12:49

I know what you mean about croissants Glitter, I find them irresistable. I've also got a bit of a problem with bagels, we bought a pack of 5 yesterday and I ate 2 yesterday evening and 2 this morning for breakfast and they're really high in points (3.5 each). DH is going to be really pissed off when he gets back from church and finds that there's only one left .

I was hoping to make it to a stone off before I go on holiday, but had a bad day yesterday and lots of bagels, and not enough exercise this week, so I'm not optimistic.

glitterfairy · 26/09/2004 16:17

Even so Bran you have done so well so far.

Champs darling where are you? Havent spoken in ages.

OP posts:
bran · 26/09/2004 16:31

Yeah, you're right GF, and at least I didn't fall off the chocolate wagon. When that happens the crash from the fall will register on earthquake monitoring equipment around the world.

Does anyone think that we should start a new long term slimmers thread? This one is almost 400 messages long (although obviously we are all burning calories scrolling down to post our new messages ).

glitterfairy · 26/09/2004 17:27

Yes you are right Bran (great minds I have been thinking this for some time). So here is our new home

OP posts:
Chinchilla · 26/09/2004 20:17

Bran

My 4lbs was a 'first week weight loss', where you lose a lot of water. I'm only expecting a pound or two this week. I'm definitely in for the long-haul, because I need to lose 3.5 stones

bran · 26/09/2004 20:26

Well, that's ok then Chinchilla.

Come and join us on our new thread, this one has become too long. (see Glitterfairy's link below, I can't be arsed doing a new one)
