Officially my heaviest and time to change. Anyone with me?

Hi all,

Well, having just returned from a gorgeous week's holiday, I decided to take the plunge and step onto the scales. Bloody hell.

I'm officially the heaviest I've ever been. I look awful. And I'm desperate to change. I've spent the last few days reading threads on here that I think will inspire me and I'm determined to make a change.

I have a number of milestones to get to, including a holiday in October, but the big one in my head is going to see the GP in a few weeks' time for a repeat prescription for my contraceptive pill. Last year, she made some reference about my weight as they may not have been allowed to prescribe it, given my high BMI. She did, and prescribed me a year's worth, and they're nearly gone. Have I lost weight? Have I heck - I'm actually heavier, and I can't bear the idea of going back and having the same utterly humiliating conversation.

So, I'm just debating the best approach. I know low/no carbs works really well for me, though I can struggle to stick with it, but that's what I'm going for initially.

This morning I weighed in at 15st 11, and I'm just 5ft 4. I'm a size 18. This cannot be who I am. I am not the woman who looks back at me in the mirror.

My mission is to shift, ideally, around 3st initially. I know that I look and feel great at 12st something, and even though I'll be far from a size 10 skinny minnie, I will feel fantastic. Then, when I get to that point, we'll see.

However, when there's such a long road ahead, I know I get easily defeated. So, does anyone fancy a hand to hold along a similar path? I'm happy to give tonnes of support and will cheer folk on, anyone fancy returning the favour?

Buffalo, the wii fit is excellent...............as long as you actually turn it on! I go through stages of using it daily, then something will happen that means I can't use it for a few days and I "forget" to include it in my day until next time I feel fat and unhealthy. God I am useless sometimes

MessEnoughClean · 29/07/2015 15:48

Ohhhhh I LOVE Pombear! I've actually been surprised how well I've avoided bad foods, I have a feeling though I'm in the 'honeymoon phase' of healthy eating where I'm enjoying it (and even feeling a bit smug about it if I'm brutally honest!!) and feeling the benefits, but I reckon give it a week or so and the cravings will kick in.

I'm just doing the standard NHS c25k app at the moment but the zombie run ones do sound interesting and I might give them a go when I'm a bit more competent - I couldn't concentrate on a story at the moment it's taking all my concentration to just remain upright!!

Buffalo There's so many different apps and I'm not sure how they all compare to each other but the NHS one I'm doing is 30 mins a go. Obviously I'm only on week 1 still but I'm amazed that I'm even able to do that, I honestly didn't consider myself able to run at all, full stop.

DreamingOfADifferentMe · 29/07/2015 15:50

Hi all madly waving in a bid to burn more calories

Huge warm welcome to anyone new, it's fab to see you here. And a big grin to everyone else. Sounds like everyone is going great guns.

Mess, bravo on the C25K again, you're properly inspirational. As a result, I've decided that when my back eases, I'm going to start doing something similar on the treadmill at the gym, and swim, at least four times a week.

I had to go out to a client dinner last night and was so proud of myself. Drank water throughout, skipped the starter -then drooled at everyone else's-, had a steak, mushroom, tomato and salad as a main and couldn't finish it. I left feeling decidedly virtuous and feeling like I really like this new me.

Today's food has been hit and miss as I had a busy morning so didn't have my greek yoghurt until around 11, and have felt too full to have lunch, so am really looking forward to my dinner this evening. Am cooking a version of Jamie Oliver's mustard chicken with long-stem broccoli and asparagus, and the recipe sounds amazing and all totally low carb. In fact, I think my stomach may now be rumbling...

Well done folks for all the running!

Homeschooling is going quite well so far, thank you Buffalo :) it's made such a massive difference to DS in particular, he got discharged from SALT within a few months (having been under them from about 20 months old - he's nearly 6!). And he can read now too :)

We aren't quite where I want to be yet - I think we could do a little more each day, although the inspector person was perfectly happy with what we do. It's another reason to sort myself out anyway - I want to be fitter and able to get out and about more with them, and I have realised that because they're now around me all day DD is starting to pick up my snack obsession! :(

fuzzpig · 29/07/2015 16:25

Hurrah Wardeness! I am really pleased we are HEing now, we actually almost did it right from the beginning, so in a way we were destined to do it IYSWIM? How are you finding it?

I love the Wii Fit too gbuk and I go through similar phases. Now I've got the board out to weigh myself I will get the DCs on it tomorrow and do a bit myself. Today is Tai Chi DVD day :) not sure how much I will manage as I've not even watched it before! But on my Graded Exercise Therapy chart I'll write down how much I do so that I can monitor it. Mon/Tues I just did the cycling (1 minute - it's so embarrassing that it's all I can consistently do, but the therapist was insistent we start low). A few times a week I'm adding in something else little and then gradually increase it in order to hopefully increase my stamina - currently anything remotely harder than regular walking gets me instantly exhausted. It's a combination of dizziness/tachycardia/low blood pressure/muscle pain all caused by my illness(es)... but I can no longer deny that my weight has a huge impact too.

Argh I'm really really hungry at the moment! Confused

MessEnoughClean · 29/07/2015 16:28

Blimey Dreaming, I've never been called inspirational before Shock. I do feel proud though and so should you about your dinner choices last night it sounds brilliant!

I've just finished my chicken and salad (with a little of the now obligatory hoummus for dipping), not sure if that was lunch or dinner to be honest...

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 17:00

Fuzzpig it's bloody amazing. We moved so we could be in a more active HE area last month, only been de reg'd since Feb but my ASD DS is shining. Grin Lots planned for sept to dec. Lots of meet ups and trips so should keep me busy (not thinking about food constantly!) he's already made a few friends it's so fantastic.

It is one of the reasons I eat too much, just grazing while at home. Sad

Letmegetanamechange · 29/07/2015 17:06

Well done on starting up C25k mess, that's definitely on my "to do" list! The last time I did it I felt like I wanted to punch "Laura" in the face! And I always hated the music they used for the NHS c25k!

Dreaming that steak sounds delicious! We're having steak tonight for dinner, considering making some sort of creamy mushroom sauce to go with mine but...well I just can't cook! Would have to look up a recipe for that one.

Also that chicken sounds yummy Smile

Buffalo I've read that apparently cravings last an hour? So hopefully you're no longer craving any junk food Grin I'm sending you positive thoughts via my amazing brain waves!

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 17:18

All the willpower on this thread is amazing.

fuzzpig · 29/07/2015 17:32

I know what you mean about eating more while being at home! I feel constantly hungry today Hmm I did just fish out some of the chickpeas from my curry (I've saved some for DH's dinner, but he doesn't really like chickpeas) so hoping the protein will help a bit!

I do think the amount of home ed stuff going on will make a huge difference. We are very lucky here - I can't believe I was ever worried about their socialisation :o

fuzzpig · 29/07/2015 17:36

And we also deregged in Feb! Neither DC went back to school after half term :)

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 17:41

I feel incredibly lethargic today and I've already eaten today's calories so filling up on cups of tea instead of dinner. Sad

Need to get my arse in gear and start exercising. Everyone else is putting me to shame!

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 17:43

We've been deschooling so our days are very unstructured. DS2 starts nursery in September so the structure will help wrt to eating habits.

Shiraznowplease · 29/07/2015 18:09

Please can I join I am 15st 7 and it is really getting me down. Keep deciding I am going to diet, do really well for a few days then slip and change to another diet. I just need to pick something and stick to it. All my clothes are too tight, even my newly bought 'fat' clothes. I have pcos and am going on holiday in three weeks so do you think that low carb is the way too go and I can always reevaluate after that ???

Letmegetanamechange · 29/07/2015 18:22

Wardeness I would still have something to eat for dinner, even though you'll be over your calorie limit I'm sure you'll have a little wiggle room (depending on how many calories you allow yourself). I think you'll be more likely to binge if you don't eat now, you'll maybe risk blowing it by eating convenience food later on (for me it would be toast!)

Maybe scrambled eggs or something? Don't beat yourself up about going over, instead evaluate what you ate and see if there's anything you can improve on Smile just don't go hungry!

Welcome Shiraz Grin sounds like you're in a pretty familiar boat to most of us here! I'm low carbing and so far really enjoying it (although as a sugar addict it IS hard) but I don't think there is one diet that is good for everyone, it depends on what you think your "weaknesses" are ie sugar, carbs, big portion size etc Have you tried any diets like slimming world, weight watchers or Atkins before?

Shiraznowplease · 29/07/2015 19:05

Thanks letmegetanamechange x I have done weight watchers (lots and lotsof times),slimming world (troubled with lack of bread ) and Atkins (twice ... Got fed up of eggs !) My joints are now aching and I am just gaining and gaining so I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOW !!

Letmegetanamechange · 29/07/2015 19:17

I'm getting to the point of being sick of eggs, I know that pain! I think I need to be more creative with my cooking! Have you tried My fitness pal? You can set it to a calorie limit depending on your BMR and how many calories you need burn for your activity level, and then chose to set the calorie limit to lose 0.5lbs, 1lbs etc etc. Thats what I used the first time I lost weight and it did work for me (back when I wasn't so dependant on sugar!)

If you like bread you can have it, as long as you stay within your calorie limit. Also you can look at your calorie goal for the overall week if one day you want to have a bit of a splurge. Sorry if you've already tried this and know all this! Smile

I'm reporting in to update you all on my yummy dinner (because, well OBVIOUSLY you're all interested). So I found a recipe for a creamy mushroom sauce! I nearly burnt it but it still tastes really good Smile having the steak with a big salad, full fat mayo, WHOLE avocado and a portion of the cheesy vegetables leftover from last nights dinner Grin and if my calculations are correct, all really low carb!

I just need to work on trying to drink more water Hmm

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 19:43

Letme took your advice and had a grilled chicken flatbread with salad. The Sancerre is still unopened in the fridge Shock DH's birthday this weekend so saving it for then

Shiraznowplease · 29/07/2015 20:00

I love it when people post their meals, it gives me ideas ???? my friend has chorizo with eggs and butternut squash which sounds lovely for breakfast and although it contains egg might be enough of a change to end boredom

Shiraznowplease · 29/07/2015 20:02

Should be a smiley face not sure why two question marks came up ?!

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 20:19

Shiraz that sounds really good. I love butternut squash.

I'm going to try egg muffins as a change to boiled and scrambled. They sound very easy to make.

Letmegetanamechange · 29/07/2015 20:41

Sounds lovely wardeness Smile is there a recipe for the egg muffins? It's making me think of McDonald's and if I can attempt to recreate a McDonald's breakfast I'd be very happy Grin

Shirazz now you've mentioned chorizo I'm going to have to buy some! The nearest I had was a chopped up pepperami, not quite as lovely Hmm

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 20:45

Not quite McDonalds but still look yummy!

Letmegetanamechange · 29/07/2015 20:57

Ugh, they look delicious! I just so happen to have a bag of spinach that needs eating, might make some tomorrow with spinach and onion! Friday shop day means bacon, so I'm definitely thinking onion and bacon muffins Grin

WardenessOfTheNorth · 29/07/2015 21:04

They definitely need bacon!
