Officially my heaviest and time to change. Anyone with me?

Hi all,

Well, having just returned from a gorgeous week's holiday, I decided to take the plunge and step onto the scales. Bloody hell.

I'm officially the heaviest I've ever been. I look awful. And I'm desperate to change. I've spent the last few days reading threads on here that I think will inspire me and I'm determined to make a change.

I have a number of milestones to get to, including a holiday in October, but the big one in my head is going to see the GP in a few weeks' time for a repeat prescription for my contraceptive pill. Last year, she made some reference about my weight as they may not have been allowed to prescribe it, given my high BMI. She did, and prescribed me a year's worth, and they're nearly gone. Have I lost weight? Have I heck - I'm actually heavier, and I can't bear the idea of going back and having the same utterly humiliating conversation.

So, I'm just debating the best approach. I know low/no carbs works really well for me, though I can struggle to stick with it, but that's what I'm going for initially.

This morning I weighed in at 15st 11, and I'm just 5ft 4. I'm a size 18. This cannot be who I am. I am not the woman who looks back at me in the mirror.

My mission is to shift, ideally, around 3st initially. I know that I look and feel great at 12st something, and even though I'll be far from a size 10 skinny minnie, I will feel fantastic. Then, when I get to that point, we'll see.

However, when there's such a long road ahead, I know I get easily defeated. So, does anyone fancy a hand to hold along a similar path? I'm happy to give tonnes of support and will cheer folk on, anyone fancy returning the favour?

Update, 13st 3lbs and 5'4.

Stayed within my 500 limit today and now off to bed!

MessEnoughClean · 06/08/2015 21:48

How was your walk socks? I had to abandon my run as after 3 steps my dodgy knee was agony. Walking was ok though so just had a long walk instead, about 2.5 miles I think - will probably just do this for a few days to let my knee sort itself out. Had a good food day aswell and I even bought myself a lion bar as a treat but haven't eaten it yet as don't really fancy it!

hanky well done on staying in your limit, but 500 cals a day is very low! Are you planning to do that every day? Make sure you don't make yourself ill!

SocksRock · 06/08/2015 22:33

mess lovely, thanks! I would have gone further but I didn't want to lose the light as its all on an unlight footpath, and the last bit in particular is not well used at all so I wanted to get home before dusk. Just made it to 10,000 - think I'm on 10,600 or so for the day :-)

hanky 500 is really low! Are you doing fast days? I tried 5:2 but I couldn't do the fast day. I normally aim for 1200 or so and eat all my exercise calories.

Do you all use fitbits or does anyone have a Garmin? Mine is Garmin and all my friends are Fitbit so I can't join any of the same challenges. Garmin website provides me with random strangers to step against, but it's not the same

SocksRock · 06/08/2015 22:35

Also mess do you have a knee support? The neoprene running ones are only abou £10 and are great. I wear one on my right knee as it has a slight tendency to click and it makes things much better.

SocksRock · 06/08/2015 22:43

Like this

Pull on medical grade neoprene knee support (Small) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BGBT5H6/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_xs9WvbWCNF1RQ

MessEnoughClean · 06/08/2015 22:50

I don't have a Fitbit or anything similar but I have been wondering about it - they sync with your phone right? My mobile is so laggy at the moment I don't think it would cope with anything extra like that! I just use a pedometer app but have no idea how precise it is.

I've been wearing tubigrip support on my knee which does help but they're such a pain to put on, I have a fabric one (no idea of a make, it was from asda) but I find it rides up and wrinkles at the back. I'll look into neoprene, thanks. I'm back in the ibuprofen 3x a day until it stops hurting again, and might show my face at the gym to do some cross trainer which is so much easier on my knee!

Also what you said about running shoes, I really want to do one of those assessments but I'm not confident enough with my running yet, I grabbed this pair from sport direct for pretty cheap so as long as they don't hurt I'll use them till I'm a bit better then get measured for decent ones as a reward!

MessEnoughClean · 06/08/2015 22:51

Cross posted with the link, that looks great I will definitely try one!

hankyspanky · 07/08/2015 05:54

I only intend to stay on the 500 a day for a month, I'm now 2.5 weeks done!

Just off to swimming as I've quite a busy day!

hankyspanky · 07/08/2015 05:58

One of our local Pound shops has the neoprene knee supports btw. I couldn't see any difference between them or the more expensive ones in Boots.

CQ · 07/08/2015 09:07

Just checking in so this stays on my TIO.

Literally melting in crappy rental villa which only has aircon in the bedrooms. By 10 a.m. it's too hot to sit in the living areas, I burned to a crisp while under the sunshade on the first day so I'm now alternating between quick dips in the pool, lying in my bedroom and cold showers.

On the upside though it's too hot for alcohol or much food ????

fuzzpig · 07/08/2015 09:47

Thursday (bit of a fail dinnerwise (and it wasn't even that nice) - but spent a couple of hours on the living room floor literally unable to move... so will have to forgive myself!)

• 2 slices French toast with 2tsp cinnamon sugar and a banana
• 250ml water
• Tuna mayo and cheddar wrap with a raw carrot
• 4 small pieces of dried mango
• Satsuma
• 4 brazil nuts
• 160ml Innocent smoothie
• Microwave lasagne
• 250ml water

fuzzpig · 07/08/2015 10:04

(I mean I was unable to move due to epic muscle pain, not because of the ready meal :o :o)

fuzzpig · 07/08/2015 15:34

So... when do I stop being hungry all the damn time then? I mean I can cope with it, I'm just kind of aware of it but telling myself I don't need anything just yet, so that's good... but it's still blooming annoying :o and I'm really not doing anything extreme or VLCD - I'm probably only eating what normal slim people eat!

Tiredemma · 07/08/2015 17:20

Ive demonstrated an appalling lack of self control over the past couple of days.

I hate how food is ruling my life.

I will attempt tomorrow to be sensible

BuffaloCustardbath · 07/08/2015 17:54

Hi all,
Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of days, I have been reading everything and I haven't fallen off the wagon, we've just been sooo busy. We've been gym members for over a week now and DP has been getting up extra early before DD and I are awake and going in the morning before work, and I've been going in the evenings once he's home from work so we've barely seen each other and we're missing each other!!

fuzz I'm hoping the constant hunger subsides soon, I don't feel like I've been craving bad stuff which is a nice surprise, but I'm fed up of the hunger!!

fuzzpig · 07/08/2015 17:55

((Tiredemma)) Tomorrow is indeed another day.

What's been your pitfall particularly? (hark at me sounding like an expert, I'm clearly not, just wondering if there's something that talking through may help)

BuffaloCustardbath · 07/08/2015 17:59

*Friday

*Granola w/ skimmed milk.
Tea.
Pint of blackcurrant squash.
Slice of banana cake.
Cucumber sticks with hummus.
Pitta filled with tuna, pesto, spring onion.
Tea.
Dinner will be beef and sausage stew which is packed with veg and has been slow cooking all day mmmmm!

fuzzpig · 07/08/2015 18:00

x-post, wow well done for gym-ing Buffalo :)

BuffaloCustardbath · 07/08/2015 18:01

Thanks fuzz, how is the muscle pain today? Hope you've had an easier day x

hankyspanky · 07/08/2015 20:00

Friday

Breakfast, Hot water with fresh lemon and a banana. I forgot to eat anything else as I was rushing around.
Lunch was missed to as I didn't realise the time!!
Dinner, Oven baked Pork chop topped with stuffing, roasted vegetable mix (a drizzle of olive oil, herbs and whacked in a roasting bag).
2 x Cans Diet Coke plus about 10 litres of water.

I swam for an hour doing 50 x 25m laps so am pleased with today.

I don't know why I fancied Pork chop? I haven't eaten Pork for years!! Very nice it was too Grin

lrb978 · 07/08/2015 21:20

Another newbie to the thread.

Have weight maintained for the last year at 14st 6, however at 5 ft I really need to be just over half that. Just over a week ago I saw a part of me in the mirror I haven't noticed before, and I really wasn't happy with it, and that has motivated me (at long last) to try and shift some of the excess.

Long term, obviously I have lots to lose. Medium term is a stone, short term just to try and lose on a weekly basis (1lb lost a week, every week, is just under 4 stone in a year).

I weigh myself on Friday, started calorie counting on Monday, and had lost 2lb by yesterday morning. Have been averaging 1450 cals a day, until today when I have blown it, and am 500 cals over my maximum 1800 limit. Am really kicking myself, but am trying to placate myself by realising how much worse it could have been - and a lot of that is due to reading this thread! So a big THANK YOU Grin

I didn't buy the cake I wanted at work, in fact I stuck rigidly to my planned food and drink at work. I did have a muffin when I got home, but I could happily have had a cake (or two) at work and that muffin, so better than it could have been

I was planning on eating out tonight, ds kyboshed that idea. So ds had a Maccy-Ds.... and I didn't. I didn't think 'sod it' and get myself a meal. I didn't even get myself a pack of nuggets (which is my usual trick, snack on nuggets and then eat more as well). I then didn't resort to a take away, which was my first reaction to ds refusing to eat out. Instead I bought a paella and some broccoli cheese from asda. And I put the broccoli cheese in the fridge instead of cooking them at the same time, with the knowledge I could have it if I was still hungry, which I am not.

So tomorrow, the plan is 2 egg omelette with 120g tuna and max 40g cheese for brunch. Then probably salmon stirfry for tea. This is a typical non work day basic meal plan. Work days is a homemade smoothie for breakfast (made the night before, I am not a morning person so I can grab it and go), a ready meal for lunch - not fab but calorie counted and portion controlled - then an evening meal with lots of veg, some protein and a small portion of carbs (sometimes none).

SocksRock · 07/08/2015 21:36

Lots more walking today for me - 15500 steps ish, and I was (pretty) good with food. Except for polishing off the children's leftovers at teatime. Slipped there! But I did leave my dessert at tea time and went for an extra walk to make up for the leftovers. It worked, I am just under my 1200 cal goal today even if you include leftover macaroni cheese and rice pudding. I also didn't have an ice cream while the kids played in the park - I left DH with them and took smallest for her nap in the buggy and a 40 min walk for me.

I think, based on my first week, the key for me is going to be a LOT of walking to generate calories that I can then eat. I like walking a lot though, it's just going to be fitting it in. It's good for the kids to see me being more active as well. My eldest is very active, but the other two not so much. The youngest has a bit of a sweet tooth as well which I need to get a grip on soon. Not to be extreme, but limit cakes and biscuits etc as she can be over greedy with them. Lots of walking with her on non preschool days I think as well.

fuzz I am hungry too all the time. I'm hoping it passes soon...

hankyspanky · 08/08/2015 07:37

Welcome lrb, I'm also new here!

No swimming for me today as the pool doesn't open till 9am and I imagine it will be packed.

I plan on having porridge made with water for a late breakfast as I am out for Dinner this evening.

Already I can feel how clothes hang differently and are looser than 3 weeks ago, so I am even more motivated!

What I've found works for me is not denying myself any foods. I can look forward to my meal out tonight and I may or may not have a desert. Also, drinking litres of water has made a huge difference to my skin. So much so, that I was asked if I'd recently had Botox!!

Healthwise, even I am amazed at how different I feel. I can actually move around normally almost pain free.

BuffaloCustardbath · 08/08/2015 08:48

Socks you're racking up those steps, I need to harness some of your motivation and get out there doing more steps. In the week that we have owned Jawbone activity trackers I have not once hit my target of 10,000 steps. Shameful. I'm making a small change each well in addition to reigning in the food and doing more gym exercise. Last week was 3l of water per day and I did manage that so this week is 10,000 steps every day, no excuses. Hopefully making changes slot will mean they are more likely to stick rather than make lots of changes all at once then beat myself up when I can't stick to them all every day.

Off to do run number 2 of Zombies, run and a Pilates class this morning :)

fuzzpig · 08/08/2015 09:24

Welcome newbies!

I'm feeling a little better today thank you Buffalo - yesterday was pretty painful and got sod all done though!

I totally agree about not making too many changes at once.

Friday
• Small bowl of cereal
• 250ml water
• 3 boiled eggs with tuna mayo and a raw carrot
• Half a pack of crisps
• Five pigs in blankets, mashed potato and sweet potato, peas and gravy
• One slice 50/50 toast with butter
• 300ml water

Got a bit too carby in the evening! DD got back really late from her friend's and was hungry for toast, having made it and smelled it I just couldn't resist my own. But one slice was enough thankfully.

I have to say I also didn't actually feel quite so hungry yesterday, I think I am getting used to it.

I'm trying to figure out if this is really sustainable. I'd like to think that from now on I will not be desperate to binge on loads of stuff at once and be happy with just a little treat, but I don't know - I feel at the moment that I could easily just slip back into stuffing my face!
