Officially my heaviest and time to change. Anyone with me?

Hi all,

Well, having just returned from a gorgeous week's holiday, I decided to take the plunge and step onto the scales. Bloody hell.

I'm officially the heaviest I've ever been. I look awful. And I'm desperate to change. I've spent the last few days reading threads on here that I think will inspire me and I'm determined to make a change.

I have a number of milestones to get to, including a holiday in October, but the big one in my head is going to see the GP in a few weeks' time for a repeat prescription for my contraceptive pill. Last year, she made some reference about my weight as they may not have been allowed to prescribe it, given my high BMI. She did, and prescribed me a year's worth, and they're nearly gone. Have I lost weight? Have I heck - I'm actually heavier, and I can't bear the idea of going back and having the same utterly humiliating conversation.

So, I'm just debating the best approach. I know low/no carbs works really well for me, though I can struggle to stick with it, but that's what I'm going for initially.

This morning I weighed in at 15st 11, and I'm just 5ft 4. I'm a size 18. This cannot be who I am. I am not the woman who looks back at me in the mirror.

My mission is to shift, ideally, around 3st initially. I know that I look and feel great at 12st something, and even though I'll be far from a size 10 skinny minnie, I will feel fantastic. Then, when I get to that point, we'll see.

However, when there's such a long road ahead, I know I get easily defeated. So, does anyone fancy a hand to hold along a similar path? I'm happy to give tonnes of support and will cheer folk on, anyone fancy returning the favour?

Hmmm. Forever Living yes?

Interesting review of the Clean 9 diet from, you know, an actual dietician.

Wow MNHQ are quick :)

TBF I can't resist cake either Socks!

SocksRock · 05/08/2015 18:28

Aren't they! I assume you reported as spam as well, I did but obvs not quick enough.

Cake had sprinkles on as well. My nemesis...

fuzzpig · 05/08/2015 18:33

I am actually starting to get used to not snacking all the time. I haven't had anything but water since lunch. This is unheard of!

I don't think I would be managing it though, if I didn't have the treats in the house IYSWIM? I can sort of handle the cravings by telling myself "it's ok, there's suchandsuch in the cupboard, I can have it later" whereas if there wasn't anything I'd be feeling really miserable I think Blush

Sausage casserole on the hob, no idea if it's any good or not, never cooked one before! But it's got lots of veg and should be pretty filling. I'll probably have my treat after dinner, but I must make sure it's not too late in the evening.

fuzzpig · 05/08/2015 18:39

Ooooh sprinkles. I love sprinkles on donuts (stop thinking about donuts fuzzpig FFS)

No I didn't report it - was about to as I saw the first bit of the bullshit post but when I clicked on the thread it had already gone :o

Going to read that report thing later.

SocksRock · 05/08/2015 18:48

I'm the other way. Having it in the house means it MUST be eaten forthwith. No excuses. Trouble is having kids around means they want snacks. I'm going to do freezer cookies I think - where you have the raw dough frozen in a log and just slice off enough for 3 biscuits and cook them for the 3 children. We'll see how that plan works...

fuzzpig · 05/08/2015 18:56

I would often have that mindset too Socks

WOW bee pollen tablets and aloe vera gel to lose weight. Batshit crazy.

SocksRock · 05/08/2015 19:15

I know! And £110 for 9 days - thats a week and a halfs actual food for 5 of us! And nappies as well. DH would be apoplectic if I proposed to do any such thing...

milkmilklemonade12 · 05/08/2015 19:22

Aww no I missed a forever living bullshit post? Sad

fuzzpig · 05/08/2015 19:35

Yep! Total con like all the rest.

I am really funny with snacking, as sometimes I can have things in the house for ages and leave them unopened. BUT the problem is when it's a large packet of something where portions aren't individually wrapped - so a pack of biscuits or a family sized chocolate bar. Once I've opened it, however... That's it. Game over.

I'm hoping that by sticking to things that are individually wrapped for my treats (like the tiny bags of haribo - oddly they taste better to me than the full size sweets?!) and only having the bigger things when I'm going to actively share them, I can get around this issue! As I don't think even my newfound motivation would stop me finishing a whole pack of something. Not just yet anyway.

Oddly I'm dreading next week's weigh in even more. I feel like I'm putting a lot more effort in this week and after surprising myself by losing a pound this time, I will be well and truly gutted if I put it back on or something!

Sausage stew a success! Well, DS was a bit 'meh' about it and left half but that's DS, I'm just glad he happily ate some! DD absolutely loved it and so did DH so that's another easy family friendly and reasonably healthy meal to add to the repertoire (been majorly stuck in a rut lately).

fuzzpig · 05/08/2015 19:36

And we're not wasting money by spending it on crappy pseudoscience lies, we are saving money by buying less junk food :o

milkmilklemonade12 · 05/08/2015 19:37

Happily, 1/3 of my calories today have come from wine Wine

I wonder if you absorb calories from drinks in the same way as food?

fuzz I'm sure you'll do fine Smile

Letmegetanamechange · 05/08/2015 20:05

Socks and fuzz, I'm a mix of BOTH of you! If its in the house I WANT it. And I would only ever buy the biggest version of any treat. If we did have individually wrapped biscuit, I'd have multiple biscuits if I were home alone Confused it's really not hard to see why I've become this big!

Did you use a recipe for the sausage casserole fuzz? I made one once and it was vile Hmm

I have a friend who sells Forever Living and did the cleanse 9. Starve yourself for 9 days, only £109! Of course if you do that you'll lose weight, but as soon as you go back to normal it's a different story. Probably a bit mean to say it, but my friend is proof it doesn't work!

I haven't seen anything on Facebook from her FL page so I'm hoping she's finally come around to the sane way of thinking.

Mince and cauliflower mash with cheese for dinner today. Yummy but I could only find reduced fat mince so I'm hoping it fills me up all night.

DD is away for 4 nights now so I feel a bit lonely and sad that I won't see her for so long. It feels strange.

On a plus note, I resisted eating one of DD's Haribo minions. I literally had the tub in my hand, looking at them thinking "just ONE, one little sugary tangy piece of goodness...what harm could it do?" Then I slammed the lid down and put them aside Smile

fuzzpig · 05/08/2015 21:56

Ah I wasn't quite so strong as you, DD had chosen some new sweets for movie night and I did try one of each of the two flavours I like (didn't try a lemon. Why waste a treat with a flavour I don't like Wink) and DH had got those new hazelnut snickers bars - stuck to half rather than a whole one. Still, I'm a total sucker for anything new, treat-wise, I can't bear the thought of missing out! DS had chosen boring glazed donuts though so I had no trouble saying no thanks (now if they'd had sprinkles on them... hmm)

Still, can't deny I'm quite pleased with Tuesday:
• Porridge with 1tbsp golden syrup and 4 brazil nuts
• Satsuma
• Bowl of lentil and veg stew
• 500ml water
• 500ml water
• Plate of sausage, veg and potato stew
• 2 fizzy Haribo
• Half a Snickers bar
• 250ml water

Kind of feeling like this is too easy, today - does that sound weird? Although I'm feeling hungry, I'm not feeling all cross and craving-y as much as I thought I would. Is this too good to be true Hmm

Also, while I had epic PMT a few days ago, I have noticed that actual period pain has been pretty much non-existent this month! Possibly because I've not been stuffing my face with sugar and caffeine for once!

Sausage stew - I don't usually use recipes as I just make it up and then wonder why half the time it doesn't work but I cut up a pack of GF sausages into chunks, lightly fried to seal them, added chopped onion (would've done celery too but it'd gone all floppy!) and garlic, can of tomatoes, cubed potatoes and sweet potato, then added some water (this was only really because I ran out of tomatoes) with a little gravy powder and some paprika. Brought to the boil, turned heat down and left it about 45mins or so at a guess, kept stirring it. About ten minutes before the end I bunged in frozen broccoli, peas and carrots.

SocksRock · 05/08/2015 22:05

Good call on the minions, letme! Slippery slope. We are on holidays as well at the moment, two weeks in sunny ho ho fucking ho Wales. Trying to resist ice cream...

Did well in the curry house - stuck to the dry tandoori meat and plain rice. Succumbed to poppadoms which I was going to avoid. Stuck to the sparkling water. Not too bad...

fuzz sausage casserole sounds yum! I do all sorts in the slow cooker - and generally use a lot of lentils for bulk and to reduce the amount of meat I need. They taste of whatever you are cooking, so cheap and filling and nutritious. My best is Moroccan lamb. Basically, lamb, onions, dried apricots, raisins, tinned tomatoes and lentils. Then add paprika, tumeric and cinnamon. Serve with couscous. Beloved by all my lot.

Right, bed time - just to make you all jealous, I'm off on a spa day tomorrow looking like a whale

SocksRock · 05/08/2015 22:09

And as for floppy celery - it's fine to be cooked. I make fridge soup most weekends which is basically everything from the bottom of the fridge that's a bit manly, chopped up, add water, tin of toms and (you guessed it!) more lentils. Soup for two days or a weeks of lunches. I've done some weird combinations with some very manky veg and they have all been fine.

Letmegetanamechange · 05/08/2015 23:09

Fuzz reading what you've eaten today I can definitely see a change, you should be so proud Grin it's extra hard when temptation is staring you right in the face! I could have killed DP when he sat next to me and ate a whole tub of ice cream made me very sad.

Socks I'm so so jealous of your spa day, I hope you enjoy it Grin I'm guessing the weather isn't too good in Wales? Wink also if you compare the calories in the Indian meal you WOULD have had to the one you DID have, those poppadoms won't seem so bad. I admire your self restraint and now I'm hungry for a chicken korma with chips

fuzzpig · 06/08/2015 10:51

Ah thanks I'll remember that about floppy celery next time :o

Moroccan lamb sounds gorgeous! Totally trying that! And I love the name 'fridge soup' it sounds like my lentil stew except I don't have tomatoes in mine.

Had French toast for breakfast today as there was not much else in - it was very weird actually measuring the sugar/cinnamon for the topping, I had 2 teaspoons rather than bunging a load on. TBH even if I'd had two tablespoons it still would've been much less than normal Blush it was still lovely though with sliced banana.

Feeling a bit tired/headachy/grumpy this morning but must crack on with housework and not eat a load of crap as a reward

Letmegetanamechange · 06/08/2015 11:19

French toast sounds lovely fuzz Grin

Big challenge for me today. Me and DP are heading to the cinema and I resisted all the sugary treats in the co op and have a tub of cocktail sausages and some babybels for the munchies.

I seriously lack on the water drinking and think that's where I'm going wrong (jumped on the scales and had lost a lb since Monday. I know that's good but I was expecting a bit more) and have made a resolution to drink water all bloody day. I can go the day without having any water by itself. Just diet coke or coffee which definitely DOESN'T count.

I think the water will be the most difficult part because unless I have iced water at work when it's so hot and I can down it, I don't really like water just by itself!

hankyspanky · 06/08/2015 13:10

Am I too late to join?!!

MessEnoughClean · 06/08/2015 15:30

Of course not hanky, welcome! What kind of approach are you taking to weight loss? As you've probably seen we're all doing different things but the general support on this thread is working well!

I've been slacking off a bit, didn't get out running yesterday and set my alarm early to go out this morning but just went back to sleep! I've been to sports direct today though and got myself some running shoes, so now I'm keen to try them out which is motivating me a bit. The trainers I've been wearing up til now are so old and really not comfy. Going to wait for the weather to cool down and go out this evening, then stick as strictly as possible to every other day

Socks and fuzz I've been reading your recipes with interest, I'm tempted to have a batch cooking week next week to stock up the freezer with healthy stuff that I can just grab and heat.

hankyspanky · 06/08/2015 16:16

Thanks Mess Smile
I've been quite ill and was taking a lot of medication that piled on the weight. 2 weeks ago I saw my reflection in a shop window and came home and binned all the tablets and decided enough was enough. I don't actually weigh myself, I go by how certain clothes fit (or don't fit which is the more likely scenario these days!).
I will go and get some scales from my DD later.
I would guess I need to loose about 3 stone but I will see how it goes. I would like to fit in my fav jeans again, so that is my goal.
I possibly had the most unhealthy diet imaginable so if I can do it, it should give others motivation!
I wanted to boost my initial weight lose so I've been allowing myself 500 calories a day. I've cut out all the crap and I don't drink alcohol.
I've also been swimming for an hour each morning and already I can feel the difference.

hankyspanky · 06/08/2015 16:18

On a side note, it does make me question exactly what sort of poisons are in 'medicines' as I feel 100% better with not taking them and I was on them for about 18 months. Hmm
I've not told my Doctor and nor do I intend to!

SocksRock · 06/08/2015 18:51

hanky I haven't weighed either and don't intend to. Going by how clothes feel and by how I feel in general. I'm also on medication that I'd like to ditch but daren't at the moment (it's for anxiety) so hopefully when I feel more positive about my body it might help!

mess, good running shoes are an essential. I got mine fitted at a proper running shop where they run you on a treadmill to see your style and recommend based on that. I got shin splint and hip flexor problems for poor shoes so now I am religious about having them fitted. No run for me today, but because of spa visit (lush in the extreme, had massage and facial and manicure #spoilt), I have only done about 3500 steps today so am off down the coast road once kids in bed. 1 down so far, two to go...

Cheering you all on here - I am so good knowing I can come on here and be honest - it makes me not want to cheat somehow...

SocksRock · 06/08/2015 19:43

And off for a walk. Hope to make it up to 10,000 steps. Surprisingly, it's a glorious evening here on the South Wales coast, I reckon 45 min or so should do the trick. Two kids in bed, eldest DD having her nails painted by SIL :-) path is all off road so even nicer.
