Im still lurking away, im another couple of pounds down weirdly, i'll take that! So 10lbs down in 10 days.

I weigh in the same circumstances as you lemon for maximum loss lol

HarryOtter · 16/07/2015 14:20

I'm waiting for my scales to be delivered and will take my starting point from there. I am doing two shakes but literally starving by time I get home so am having a light meal. Want my scales to shock me into taking it seriously when I get them!

pinkdelight · 16/07/2015 15:23

Are your light meals all ketosis-friendly foods, harry? I don't know how New You works, but if you've been doing it a few days you shouldn't be starving unless you're not in ketosis. Unless by starving you just mean desperate to consume something other than shakes, with which I can empathise!

Speaking of which, I'm wondering whether to buy some more Exante bars as mine all went off in April so are probably not helping with the sense of denial. Ordinarily I'd be tempted by the double choc bars but feeling a bit sick of choc with all the shakes, so any feedback on the other bars would be v helpful. Someone said they were sick of the lemon bars - are they not nice? Are the peanut butter ones grim? How about the cookies n cream? They're all looking a bit sickly to me now, but sure I'd be glad of a change. Any recommendations?

HarryOtter · 16/07/2015 15:55

Yes they are all ketosus friendly however they are also disgusting! I've tried pepping them up - adding ice and spoonful of coffee to make it more of a frappe but I'm really having to force them down. I'm being a bit crap with it all.

I've also had a headache since Monday that I just can't shift and that is making me feel more sick. I'm wondering whether to just go shakes twice a day then a meal.
Feel like such a loser that I can't get the hang of it!

helenahandbag · 16/07/2015 16:16

pink

I tried the peanut butter bar yesterday and hated it. Really odd texture, horribly bitter dark chocolate, salty filling. Bleugh.

pinkdelight · 16/07/2015 18:05

Oh my, glad I asked. Will give that a wide berth then. Just been looking at the curries and sweet n sour noodles on the exante site but fear disappointment. It's a midfield!

Sorry to hear your meals aren't nice, Harry. And about your headache. Really hope you're feeling better very soon.

lemonstartree · 16/07/2015 18:06

re exante bars.. I LOVE the stawberry jam and yoghurt one. Have on some days just eaten three of these. Also nice are raspberry and white choc - not very chocolatey' I also like the lemon bar and cookies and cream ones ...

lemonstartree · 16/07/2015 18:07

I quite like the Sweet and sour noodles - bit sloppy but palatable (small tho'! )

HarryOtter · 17/07/2015 08:32

Ok so boots was correct will have to take starting weight at 12'13 which means I've lost a pound! Will really give shakes another try, I'm really struggling with them.

pinkdelight · 17/07/2015 09:27

Thanks very much for the tips. Have ordered a few jam/yog, lemon and cookies n cream bars. Should be here tomorrow. Inordinately excited!

lemonstartree · 17/07/2015 11:31

im struggling to get into ketosis. Despite being extremely strict for 5 days Im not in ketosis.

I wonder if he 50 odd g of carb is too much for me.

Im losing weight - now 9 st 11; but SO hungry ALL the time I could eat my right arm and the right arm of everyone I meet ..

pinkdelight · 17/07/2015 12:03

That's very strange - and very maddening for you! What exactly are you eating each day, do you want to say? Only I just looked back and saw you'd had three bars one day and I thought we could only have one bar per day. That's drummed into me from Lighter Life 3 years ago though, so may not apply to Exante now, I don't know. Would've thought it could nudge your carbs over the limit though?

On the bright side, 9st 11 is amazing! And extra amazing that you've done it even without ketosis.

lemonstartree · 17/07/2015 13:57

Thanks pink I had no idea I wasn't supposed to eat more than one bar a day ! whoops

Usualy I do shake for breakfast, bar for lunch and hot for dinner - but do sometimes grab a bar for breakfast as well as lunch. I cant make shakes at work, so if I miss the am one I dont use them at all ...

Otherwise its water or coke zero or the occassional black coffee (no sugar obviously) I dont use milk in coffee and have eaten not one thing that has not come out of an exante packet!

I thought he carbs / protein / vitamins mix was the same in all products - but maybe there are more carbs in the bars ....

pinkdelight · 17/07/2015 14:53

Was beginning to doubt myself there, but just found this - point 2 about bars:

exantediet.com/blog/top-tips/campingfestival-tips-when-on-exante/

However it does say it's not that big a deal, so might not be the problem. Hmm. Can't see why ketosis wouldn't be kicking in otherwise. How infuriating. Really hope you're in the zone soon and the hunger buggers off.

helenahandbag · 17/07/2015 15:35

I find it really difficult to get into ketosis on Exante, 60g carbs is high for a keto diet. I like doing Atkins and that suggests 20g of carbs a day, I was in ketosis after two days and didn't feel hungry at all. I like the big losses that VLCD brings but I'm constantly ravenous Sad

RufusTheReindeer · 17/07/2015 19:55

Just had an eight day supply of exante delivered today, I'm starting on Thursday

It's a very little box Sad

I've bought ketosise sticks but they aren't delivered til Tuesday

My plan is to do a week and see how I get on, the go on holidays and start again properly in September if this trial goes well

I've enjoyed reading the supportive posts in here Smile

mangofizz · 17/07/2015 23:25

Ketosis depends on what level you are doing it at too, on step 2 of cambridge you dont go into ketosis, its about calorie deficit. So even with Exante, without wanting to state the obvious, for every 3500 cals saved (or thereabouts) you should be losing a pound.

lilacblossomtime · 17/07/2015 23:28

That's interesting Mango do you find you feel hungry if not in ketosis, or do you still get used to the smaller amounts of food?

zeis10 · 18/07/2015 08:55

Hello!! I have been a bit off the map, sorry. Hope all is going well. I have hit a new low (so to speak!). 10.10 ..cannot remember the last time, well actually I can, it must have been 2006! I had a 3 day period, when I was having a break and ate way too much for me, when my weight seemed to increase by 7lbs, but 3 days later it was gone! Then this last week I have lost another 4lbs, so I am really pleased.

Funny with that Exante food, I really love some of them and some of them really not. I really love the peanut bars; the cookies and cream tasted a lot like mushed chocolate cookies, so if you are missing those, then maybe you would like them, but I am not feeling the need. They have quite a variety of dishes, so I think it very worthwhile to do a smallish order, with lots and lots of different products to try them out. Have only just realised that the dishes I'd assumed were meat, actually are soya, so a whole new veggie world has opened up for me!

I am going to look about soonish for a bikini bottom, to wear with something I have here, in the hope of actually getting into the sea this year..feeling more "Zeisty" each week!

Wishing every one a great weekend!!

This is driving me nuts how can I have eaten nothing but two shakes and one tiny dinner every night for six days and I've dropped 1lb!

zeis10 · 18/07/2015 10:05

Hello HarryOtter that is a long time to wait I agree, but it often happen that weight can appear to stall then a couple pounds drops off all at once, It happened to me once and i got going again. There is a thread I posted a while back about how the body holds onto water for as long as it can. I will find it and repeat it for you. Hang on in there! Smile

Here it is!

Of Whooshes and Squishy Fat
www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/of-whooshes-and-squishy-fat.html/
A few weeks back I answered a question about Not Losing Fat at a 20% Deficit, What Should I Do? and among other things, one comment I made had to do with a water retention that often occurs during fat loss which can mask fat loss and make it appear as if the diet is not working. I also mentioned specifically that I had written (with a straight-face no less) about whooshes in The Stubborn Fat Solution, along with a related phenomenon which I call squishy fat.

In any case, to expand on that issue, I’m going to excerpt the chapter section from The Stubborn Fat Solution dealing with both phenomena. With that introduction, I give you (again, with a straight face)…

Of Whooshes and Squishy Fat

Before you freak out and think you’ve entered some weird Internet forum where people talk about stalls and whooshes, please bear with me; there’s actually some physiological rationale to what I’m going to discuss.

Many people have noted that fat loss is often discontinuous, that is it often happens in stops and starts. So you’ll be dieting and dieting and doing everything correctly with nothing to show for it. Then, boom, almost overnight, you drop 4 pounds and look leaner.

What’s going on? Back during my college days, one of my professors threw out the idea that after fat cells had been emptied of stored triglyceride, they would temporarily refill with water (glycerol attracts water, which might be part of the mechanism). So there would be no immediate change in size, body weight or appearance. Then, after some time frame, the water would get dropped, the fat cells would shrink. A weird way of looking at it might be that the fat loss suddenly becomes ‘apparent’. That is, the fat was emptied and burned off days or weeks ago but until the water is dropped, nothing appears to have happened.

For nearly 20 years I looked for research to support this, I was never sure if it was based on something from the 50’s or he just pulled it out of thin air as an explanation. Recently, one paper did suggest that visceral fat can fill up with water after massive weight loss but that’s about it.

Somewhat circumstantially, people using Bioimpedance body fat scales (which use hydration to estimate body fat levels) have noted that body fat appears to go up right before a big drop. This implicates water balance as the issue here.

As well, women, who have more problems with water retention, seem to have bigger issues with stalls and whooshes than men. Further, some individuals who have done dry carb-loads (high carbohydrate refeeds without drinking a lot of water) have seen them occur; presumably the body pulls water into the muscles and out of other tissues (fat cells). In lean individuals, appearance is often drastically improved with this approach, it doesn’t do much for those carrying a lot of fat.

I’d note that dry carb-loads suck because you’re so damn thirsty. Interestingly, even normal refeeds often work in this regards, perhaps the hormonal effect ‘tells’ the body to chill out and release some water. So not only do refeeds seem to improve stubborn fat mobilization the next day (as discussed above), they may help the body drop some water so that you can see what is happening.

Finally, many have reported whooshes following an evening which included alcohol. A mild diuretic, this would also tend to implicate water balance issues in the whoosh phenomenon.

I’d also note that this isn’t universal, lean dieters often see visual improvements on a day to day basis; a lot seems to depend on whether or not they tend to retain water in general. Folks who do have problems with water retention tend to have stalls and whooshes, those who don’t show nice consistent visual changes.

On a related topic, I wanted to discuss something else that often happens when people are getting very lean and dealing with stubborn body fat: the fat gets squishy, feeling almost like there are small marbles under the skin. Yes, very scientific, I know. That’s the best I can do.

As folks get very lean, down to the last pounds of fat, the skin and fat cells that are left will often change appearance and texture. It will look dimply (as the fat cells which are supporting the skin shrink and the skin isn’t supported) and feel squishy to the touch. This is bad in that it looks really weird, but it’s good because it means that the fat is going away. I have nothing truly profound to say about this topic, just realizes that it happens and usually indicates good things are happening.

Bars just arrived. They're so small!! Esp the cookies one. Will have to eat v v slowly. Used to the old choc-orange ones that take a lot of chewing.

Hope you get a drop soon Harry. Is it worth doing three packs a day instead of having the meal, or does your system not work like that? Can't think why on earth it's taking so long, but the weight must come off very soon.

lilacblossomtime · 18/07/2015 11:23

Hi pink a lot of people put them in the fridge or freezer to make them last longer.

lilacblossomtime · 18/07/2015 11:26

That's great zeis so happy for you! Enjoy your bikini.
