Needing to lose 4st+ - support thread!

HippyJess · 12/03/2015 12:23

Since I want somewhere to track my progress I'm gonna do it here and have it act as a support thread for anyone else who wants to join me - because it certainly feels daunting and we can use all the help we can get!

I am 5 foot nothing and post DS (almost 6 months) I weigh (as of this morning) 95.2kg which I believe is around 14.5stone, but I avoid using st and lbs as I find it triggering. I would like to be back down to my pre-baby weight of circa 80kg by BiL's wedding in June. So...

HippyJess
SW: 95.2kg
GW1: 80kg (June)
GW2: 68kg (September)
UGW: 58kg (March 2016)

Short Term Goal: Do Davina's 15 Minute Fit every day for a week, starting today. I did it, and some of the easy versions were hard :( which is why I need to keep going.

Hope someone out there will want to join me! Hoping to post once a day to keep myself on track :) now off I go to make myself an omelette and veggies for lunch!

Hello, losers. Well done on losses - especially, to Brains and Huffy, if I may. (And unable to spot Vicki - hope all is well there.)

I'm struggling with losing and regaining the same three pounds over and over again. Superstrict for two or three days, then bingey for two or three days. Suffering from a lack of routine, and it's just all gone a bit crap really. If anyone has any wise words - or book/blog recommendations - on self-sabotage, then I really, really need them.

LostMyBaubles · 08/09/2015 10:33

Hi all.
Can I join please?

Ive had 3dc in 5yrs. 2 in nearly 2. Body complete wreck!
Pre baby I was 15-16stone which I know was a lot but I was healthier than now.
Im 5'8.
Im 17.4 stone I think.
My scales are shit.

My goal weight is at least pre baby weight.
I started slimfast. Wasnt enough for me

so right now ive restricted my diet to around 900cals a day. Which was hard at first but ive realised I dont need the extra food. Food is for fuel not for fun.

I have a cuppa in the morning. Dinner abd cuppa and cuppa at night.

Have some fruit throughout too.

There was a time I could eat a full pack of biscuits with a cuppa Blush Angry im almost on week 3.

Stellar67 · 08/09/2015 10:47

Well done SFB and huffy.
pippi I'm the same, I have a cold and am eating for eatings sake. I need a kick up the arse.

Welcome baubles. What meals do you eat? 900 cals is quite low. I don't think I can do under 1200 on a good day!

LostMyBaubles · 08/09/2015 11:56

I only eat 1 meal a day and have cups of tea and if im still hungry fruit.

Today will be cauliflower and lamb curry with 1 chappati. Once ive put it in mfp I wil let you know how much its cost me cal wise. Most meals are around 650cals that ive been having. The extra cals are from tea lol.

Yesterday was grilled chicken and salad plus sauce.
Hardest is the first 3days then you get used to it

pippistrelle · 08/09/2015 12:23

Well, good to know I'm not alone, stellar. (Although sorry that you're not in the zone either.)

I aim for about the same number of calories, Baubles, but split up into three small meals. I'm not sure how sustainable I'd find only one meal a day or the impact that it might have on one's metabolism. But each to their own, and if it becomes unsustainable, you can always change tack. And I guess, really, that what you're doing is the equivalent of two small meals a day consisting of fruit.

raisin3cookies · 08/09/2015 12:52

No way could I cope with 900 cals/day! I watched a lecture yesterday that turns a lot of dieting advice on its head and makes a LOT of sense to me. www.theobesityepidemic.org/2012/02/the-obesity-epidemic-lecture/

Well worth a watch, imo.

I've been doing a 16:8 fast every day for the past couple of months and have seen a lot of great changes in my size & shape. I just lost another inch after measuring today, in fact. :) I keep my calories to about 1800/day, though I don't track religiously and focus on nutrients rather than calories anyway. I used to eat non-stop carbs for breakfast, and now I don't have to worry about it anymore.

Intermittent fasting doesn't work for everyone, but it is definitely working for me.

pippistrelle · 08/09/2015 13:40

I've just googled what a 16:8 fast actually is (I meant to do it when you mentioned it before, raisin, but it slipped my mind). Anyway, it turns out that that's what I'm mostly doing too, although calorie counting is my basic control mechanism. I'm also inadvertently doing low carb too because they're generally pretty calorie laden so I try to lean heavily on protein, and on vegetables.

(I'm hoping that by restating this, I can get myself back on track once and for all.)

Oh, and I'll watch that lecture later. Thanks, raisin.

vickibee · 08/09/2015 13:50

Pippi - I am still here but feeling very pissed off with the whole thing, My WW leader gave me a mini bollocking last week because i had stayed the same for two consecutive weeks, I am thinking about quitting the classes. I have tried really hard for the last ten days and my effort in not reflected in the scales. I have even upped my exercise levels and manage to do one hour in th morn b4 work and one in the evening after. I do not have time to do any more. I must be doing somthing fundamnetally wrong and not realise. I am sat at my desk and my tummy is growling at me - I have had half a grapfruit and a v samll chicken salad today - having a cup of tea to try not to feel it so much.
Sorry I sound like a right moaning minnie don't I ?

pippistrelle · 08/09/2015 14:18

Glad to see you, Vicki. Don't despair. I know very specifically the reason for my lack of success at the moment but I have in the past had a period of doing all the right things, and not seeing that reflected on the scales. It's incredibly disheartening, but I think that sort of plateau is pretty normal for anyone who's losing weight, and your WW person is in the wrong job if he/she doesn't recognise that. Further demonstrated by the fact that they think a mini-bollocking is a motivational tool. A plateau, though, is temporary, and does not mean that you're doing something fundamentally wrong as you very clearly know how to get it right, as can be seen by the weight you've lost already.

Keep your chin up.

vickibee · 08/09/2015 14:24

You are right of course, I am so desperate to get to my 3 stone target (39 Lb at moment)

Thanks for the positive encouragement - I managed to jog for ten minutes this morning and wasn't even out of breath, I only stopped because of my hip injury (fractured my pelvis in a RTA my 20's and it limits what I can do) I am going to try and do a bit more each day

Doctormummy1 · 08/09/2015 14:26

Can I join? BMI 42... 5 stone to
Lose? Anyone else starting the journey?

X

Welcome Doc.

Vicki it's rubbish when we do well and can't fathom why nothing is happening. Maybe it is water? Ignore the teacher.

My cold is making me reach for salty carbs. Going to wrap up and go for a walk. In a crabby mood anyway so will be better for everyone.

Stellar67 · 08/09/2015 18:13

Meant to say, well done on the run Vicki. I wish I could run. I should maybe try again. I walk faster!

Doctormummy1 · 08/09/2015 19:11

Restarting cambridge. Like a fool. Has anyone else decided on giving this a go this time around? If your weight is up and down long term like mine?

Stellar67 · 09/09/2015 07:50

I haven't tried Cambridge doc.

I went for a 5 mile walk last night and tried jogging some. I was getting shin splints though.

I'm thinking of giving 5:2 a go. It might give me more willpower. Any tips?

raisin3cookies · 09/09/2015 08:04

Join the 5:2 thread! I haven't done it, and never will because it doesn't work with my family life, but lots of people have been successful.

SFB - It seems that fat (and red-haired) people are the only soft targets left in this politically correct world - I haven't seen it though.

I try to see my weight loss journey as a change in lifestyle, something that I can stick to long term. That's why I have steered away from specific diet plans and prefer to eat my own food. I made some Tukley burgers at the weekend and they were delicious. I do WW but do not buy their products, too expensive and tasteless

Thin people - how do they stay thin, it must be by eating less.

I just like food and eating in general. It is so hard to be disciplined. I too like carbs, we had spagetti and home made meatballs last night and I had a small second portion just because it was there. I did stay within my daily allowances though and was ravenous by tea time. I miss bread, have substituted bread for warburtons sandwich thins (100cal), I love italian bread with olives or sun dried toms and have some in the freezer for special occasions
I agree that it ts depressing when you consider the sacrifices you have to make for the rest of your natural

LollipopViolet · 09/09/2015 11:36
