Hi, I started on 1st Jan at 18st 10lbs and I have so much to lose, it would be lovely to share my journey with others who have over 6 stones to lose.

I know it's going to be a really long slog and I'll need help staying on the straight and narrow. I have to do it this year, no excuses!

So far I have lost 8.4lbs in first 11 days, but that seems tiny when I've got nearly nine stones to lose altogether. My goal is 10st.

Anyone out there? All buddies welcome Grin

Thanks Mrs...yes what IS the low carb equivalent of beans on toast? One to ponder I think! Will have a think about the 40 things, but off the top of my head....learn to play an instrument? Run 10k for charity? Carry out 40 random acts of kindness for strangers? Lose 40lbs? Do something wonderful, but anonymous for 40 friends? As simple as going round to mow their lawn whilst they're out. Would all be pretty cheap.

Ooh it's difficult with the watches Letme....as my absolute fave is the omega, but I don't want you to have to spend more! The Omega for me is a timeless classic (pass on to children type watch) whereas the Tag though lovely, it's more of a fashion watch. But I am slightly biased as my Grandad always wore an Omega and it was passed on to my brother when he died. They'd both be extremely generous gifts though. Award winning wife! Grin

LETME -mine are run flat too - sob sob!

I like both watches -helpful!! The silver one is more casual and the black one more business like. Does he wear any other jewellery. Hubby has a white gold wedding ring so only wears silver now.

Bloody pricey but gorgeous hubby should be well chuffed with either! They are both classy and timeless - good luck choosing between the two!

ProfYaffle · 03/03/2015 15:56

Lordy, I can't imagine wearing a watch that expensive, I'd be terrified of losing it! I think the exact opposite to Mac (Sorry!) I think the Tag is more timeless and the Omega more fashionable. Personally I like the Tag best.

Mrsstevejones · 03/03/2015 16:00

I like the do something anonymous and nice thing, i am not sure he has 40 friends but he does know a LOT of people - will pop you down for that one - he will be like Mac who?? Lol

Letme - i love rightmove and when not on MN am usually there, i do fall in love with a new house about once a week!
Come and do hardcore low carb its great and bulletproof coffee isnt that bad when you get used to it honest! Coconut oil does have a laxative effect however - you sold yet ? lol But whatever works for you.

LetMeBeLight · 03/03/2015 16:54

oh christ MRS, well, er my tyres are particularly big ones, so maybe your won't be as expensive clutches at straws.

Thank you for all the opinions on the watches. I think I should probably go for the Omega because I know that's the one he really likes. It's good to hear that 2 out of 3 of you like it - I was feeling really reticent about paying that much for something I didn't even like!

I would NEVER usually spend this much on him by the way, but this is a special birthday, plus he's bloody difficult to buy and this is the one thing I know he'd really love. I wish there was something I knew he'd love for in the region of £100!!

Still, it all depends on whether or not I can actually afford it! I'll have to see what invoices come in this week...

Mrsstevejones · 03/03/2015 21:09

Bored and want to nibble.................. will drink more water instead.

Macloveswill · 04/03/2015 01:07

Yay just flopped into bed after fab evening on the Prosecco with 7 lovely friends (eating cheese and charcuterie). Slightly tipsy having danced around the kitchen to 'thriller' and 'Islands in the stream' and 'the power of love', basically a total 80s cheesefest! I've not seen these guys for a few weeks and they all commented that I'd lost weight. Mostly because I'm wearing more
fitted stuff I think, so bound to look slimmer. This group of friends have never actually known me slim, so not sure they know what to expect.

I walked there and walked home, which is unheard of for me! Now wondering what the scales will have to say about it over the next couple of days! Please be kind scales!

OP posts:
Mrsstevejones · 04/03/2015 07:12

Wow that sounds like fun, fingers crossed for kind scales. prob thought you have lost weight as you are almost 2 STONE down. I have friends who have never known me thin and i cant wait to show them!

Its such a boost getting a "have you lost weight?" isnt it - still waiting for mine!!!

LetMeBeLight · 04/03/2015 07:28

Sounds like a fun evening Mac and I bet the dancing and walking more than compensated for the prosecco!

It's a lovely feeling when people notice you've lost weight as well. It must really be obvious!

I had a sneaky weigh in this morning. I knew I shouldn't have as I only weighed on Thursday and I didn't, ahem, go at all yesterday or this morning. I was exactly the same, so I'm hoping that when I do go to the toilet it is actually a loss (sorry for tmi!)

Does everyone else weigh themselves first thing, naked, after going to the toilet, or is that just me?!

LetMeBeLight · 04/03/2015 07:28

Oh and hope you managed to resist the nibbles Mrs!

Mrsstevejones · 04/03/2015 07:53

Thats exactly how i do it but in the living room on the wii as i dont have any proper scales and there is something satisfying about seeing your Mii shrink!

I am not sure what i will do when my students arrive for the summer, dont want to put the poor loves off of their breakfast!!

ProfYaffle · 04/03/2015 07:59

"Does everyone else weigh themselves first thing, naked, after going to the toilet, or is that just me?" Not just you! circumstances have to be exactly right before I'm willing to weigh myself! Grin

Mrsstevejones · 04/03/2015 08:12

Just thought i would share a fab recipe i have - great for breakfast and lunch or a snack.

Ricotta cups

1/2 cup of parmesan shavings
1/2 cup of mozzarella or cheddar
1 cup of ricotta
2 large eggs
s and p, garlic, herbs - whatever

optional favourings
chicken and chorizo or bacon and leek or chicken, curry and spinach (frozen and squeezed) or ham, sp onion. Cook the optional flavourings and allow to cool. Leeks, broccoli, green peppers etc are all nice but need to be precooked - you need something to help bind it together. You need a lot of flavour as the ricotta is so bland.

Mix top ingredients together, add cooled optional ingredients ( no idea on weights sorry - handful of each?), mix well. Pop into greased muffin tins and bake at 180 degrees for 25 mins until going brown on top. Run a knife around the edge and allow to cool in tin for 5 mins before flipping out on a cooling tray.

Great for breakfast and freeze nicely and only take 1 min in microwave. My kids love them.

LetMeBeLight · 04/03/2015 08:42

Haha, glad it's not just me Prof and Mrs.

I also avoid the scales when I'm on as I know it will only bring me bad news (water retention etc rather than scoffing chocolate)

Those ricotta cups sound lovely. I'm imaging them to taste like a soufflé?

Macloveswill · 04/03/2015 10:29

Yes it was lovely when friends noticed the slowly shrinking me. I'm always pleased afterwards that I got a compliment, but it always makes me a bit flustered and self conscious at the time Smile is that just me?

Haha....the scales ritual...I'm just the same! First thing, naked, post poo and will even get back on a couple of times just in case the next reading is slightly lower. It makes constipation very annoying! Grin

Mrs when your students arrive you'll have to find a very light covering that covers your modesty, but barely weighs an ounce (that, or risk a sexual harassment suit) Wink

Ditto ricotta cups, they sound delish! Thanks for the recipe. Will try them at the weekend.

Years ago a friend of mine doing Weight Watches told me he weighed all his outfits to find the lightest one to wear to meetings! Grin

Mrsstevejones · 04/03/2015 11:55

with students i was planning on getting up a stupid oclock to do it! When i did SW i used to wear light clothes, take off my layers and jewellery and shoes! Weighing clothes does sound a little obsessive but i could def see myself doing something like that!!

Not like a souffle - more like a quiche but not eggy - cant abide eggs.

I love a weight loss compliment and i get all smug and smiley!! Shallow much???

LetMeBeLight · 04/03/2015 12:33

That makes me feel better about my dodgy scales reading which was down to not wearing my glasses - I'd forgotten to bring them into the bathroom with me, then thought, ooh I'll weight without them, might take a bit more off!!

They are the thick rimmed large 'geek' type glasses, but even so, I think that was rather delusional and has just left me wondering whether it was a 2 or a 5!!

Macloveswill · 04/03/2015 12:47

Isn't it brilliant that we now get our little dopamine hit from stepping on our scales rather than shoving a tonne of sugar in our chops?! Grin

OP posts:
LetMeBeLight · 04/03/2015 14:13

wonders if she's the only one who had to google dopamine

Very true Mac. I've not really had the hit from the scales yet - it's still early days and I think I need another week or so to settle into it. My starting point was norovirus and a huge loss over about 3 days because I couldn't even keep a sip of water down (nearly 2 weeks ago), so I know the initial weight loss wasn't altogether real and I need a bit of time to settle.

Regardless, I am definitely down from my starting point and I'm almost certain some of my clothes are slightly loser.

I haven't been great today and yesterday - I haven't had lunch or breakfast (so just eating an evening meal about 8pm), whereas last week I was really good and brought vegetable soup into work for lunch and saved some veg from the previous nights' dinner to at least have something for breakfast.

On the plus side, dinner was healthy last night (chicken in mustard sauce with broccoli, sugar snaps, green beans and peas) so at least I haven't reverted into buying snacks just before dinner and/or eating a huge dinner to compensate. But I know it's better for me to eat breakfast and lunch as well, so I need to get organised!

Macloveswill · 04/03/2015 21:11

Just back from my walk, pjs on, feet up Grin

Letme....yes it's definitely much harder on you if your food isn't planned in advance isn't it? I agree it's better if you can have breakfast and lunch, but you will still be losing inches or pounds as long as you're cutting back. Your dinner with lots of veg sounds perfect too.

It took a while, probably 6 weeks, before I actually started to feel any slimmer, so it's a good early sign that your clothes are already looser.

I'm waiting to see if the prosecco has a better or worse effect on my weightloss than vodka. I will know for sure by Sunday.

OP posts:
Macloveswill · 05/03/2015 07:16

Ooh nice surprise this morning on the scales! I didn't have to wait until Sunday (5 days post alcohol) for any weightloss. I'm 0.4lbs down this morning. I think this is the first time the scales have shown any loss any less than 5 days afterwards! It's only the second day post (copious glasses of) prosecco! Experiment number 1: Prosecco has triumphed over vodka!!

Prof you can breathe easy now! Brownie points for giving me the courage to expand my alcohol horizons. Thank you! Grin

Only 2.3lbs to 2 stones off now.

I'm booked in for a cut and colour this morning, so a nice little treat and my hairdresser is great, he always puts some curls in and makes me look very glamorous...shame I'm only walking tonight!

OP posts:
LetMeBeLight · 05/03/2015 07:22

I'm very impressed with all the evening walking. I normally find all I want to do after dinner is watch tv/go to bed with the ipad. Maybe that's a big part of why I'm fat!

Dinner wasn't too bad for me last night, lamb chop, cous cous and roasted veg. I did also pick at a bit of the rotissetie chicken (for the dog, which i know is utterly ridiculous - he eats better tan a lot of people!) before preparing dinner though as I was so ravenous.

I'm up and ready earlier than usual today so I'm going to do an extra mile on the dog walk this morning, and I'm going to walk to the supermarket during work to buy lunch and dinner stuff.

Macloveswill · 05/03/2015 07:37

Let me....I would be just the same with walking if I didn't do it with my friend. I often feel like crying off, but I always go as I don't like to let her down and visa versa. If I was doing it on my own I'd have almost definitely given up by now, but we seem to just keep each other going.

Loving how your pampered your pooch is! Grin

13st 5 and 3/4 today. Lowest weight I've been for 15 years. Dancing a happy dance today!!!!

I was 16 stone 4 this time last year, I thought I was fine but I can run up2 flights of stairs easily now and generally have loads more energy. It feels like such an achievement to actually do this after years of not managing to lose weight.
