Hi, I started on 1st Jan at 18st 10lbs and I have so much to lose, it would be lovely to share my journey with others who have over 6 stones to lose.

I know it's going to be a really long slog and I'll need help staying on the straight and narrow. I have to do it this year, no excuses!

So far I have lost 8.4lbs in first 11 days, but that seems tiny when I've got nearly nine stones to lose altogether. My goal is 10st.

Anyone out there? All buddies welcome Grin

Just back from town and my eyesight has worsened so now i have to wear glasses for driving. Found a nice pair with purple frames, i did try a more funky pair but i cant get plastic frames as i have an unusually large bridge of my nose - attractive hey?? and they dont sit right. So after trying on virtually every pair i went back to the ones i liked the other week. I also got a pair of prescription sunglasses as i live in them in the summer - £380 later!
Hubby also needed new glasses £360 later! So an expensive sunday here.

Also we have been considering buying a new house and moving to the seaside - not that far from where we currently live and we have found a house on rightmove but havent been able to get hold of agent and i am so impatient to see it in the flesh and see if its as fab as i think. So will be ringing estate agent first thing tom.

After all my smug" i am in the zone now" i have messed up! We were starving and hubby suggested posh burgers and i didnt talk him out of it. So had a burger 2 burgers with pulled pork in a bun and 2 massive onion rings - it was amazing but now i have buggered up my weightloss for this week - aarrgghh. Lesson learnt is that i have to be prepared and not let myself get starving.

LetMeBeLight · 01/03/2015 16:31

Forget the glasses, it can't get more expensive than buying a house! Hope it's as great as it looks.

I don't think you should see the burgers as messing up. If we're all doing this as a life change, of course there are going to be days where you have burgers or cake or whatever. I think the trick is to keep them limited, so it really is a treat, and get back to usual eating straight after.

I totally get the not being organised and getting so hungry you make bad choices. One of my greatest pitfalls used to be not eating all day then calling into the supermarket after work to buy dinner stuff and end up getting something to snack on, even though I'd be having dinner in an hour. Far too many temptations in a supermarket when you're staving.

Still, I wouldn't see the burger as a bad choice, I would remember it as a real treat that you enjoyed, and a big part of it being enjoyable was because it was such a rarity. I think bad choices with food are when you make them all the time. A 'bad choice' that is only once every month or two is just a rare treat, and that's ok!

Mrsstevejones · 01/03/2015 17:15

Ah thanks letme... i find its a slippery slope for me. I am either really strict or really lax. I would buy a pepperoni in the supermarket and eat it on way home and as long as i didnt eat something carby i wouldnt worry but i am a strict LC-er and dont worry about cals only carbs. Also i worry if i dont loose weight then i get the F*ck it attitude - i am not loosing so i might as well eat rather than deprive myself - which is how i ate myself to a size 22!

I am worried now i will be hungry tom and then compound the damage by eating something else quick and carby so i need to be vigilant tomorrow. Hopefully it wont throw me out of ketosis as its the hunger dampening aspect of this diet that makes it work for me. That will teach me for being complacent and smug!

I am on holiday in May and desperately want to be back in my skinny wardrobe as i dont have many 16s or 18s as i refused to buy big clothes but i could kit out a small dept store with clothes i cant fit into. Soi a dress size and a bit to go.

Must be very strict tomorrow and watch out for those pesky carbs as they will be calling me - lol. However the burger was bloody lovely and i did eat it thoroughly enjoying it and i refuse to feel guilty about food, i just wont make appointments over lunchtime again or i will eat before i go out!

On the plus side my toothache has gone now. Sorry guys whinge over. Hope everyone is having a good day.

rumgy · 01/03/2015 20:16

I am still here just have not posted for awhile.
I am on a strict LCHF phase to kick start some serious weight loss. I am very motivated ! Walked 4 miles today quite easily which is not bad for a 17 1/2 stone fatty.
The next few weeks are clear so my aim is to stick to very low carb for 30 days with no ' days off '. I am enjoying the food end must be in ketosis as I have that mouth feeling and my appetite has gone.
I have a roller coaster to fit into in August ........

Mrsstevejones · 01/03/2015 22:33

Good luck rumgy with the strictness. Cutting out or down on dairy really helped me - bloody miserable however and made it feel like a proper diet! 4 miles is fab well done you.

It will be interesting to see how much you loose being very strict.

I am just back from a late night swim trying to burn off those pesky carbs and had a late night supper of roasted breast of lamb with mayo, yum.

Macloveswill · 01/03/2015 23:14

Ah one posh burger won't hurt you too badly I wouldn't have thought Mrs....just work on controlling any cravings tomorrow, like you say and all will be forgiven Grin

Hey Rumgy....good luck with the super strict regime. It will be interesting to see if it really speeds you up...I imagine it has to. The walking will certainly help metabolise everything quicker. Rollercoaster here you come!

I managed an unscheduled hours walk this afternoon with DD riding her bike along next to me. It made what would have been an extremely sedentary day a pretty good one.

1st of the month, let's make March count!

Mrsstevejones · 02/03/2015 07:36

Just weighed in and i am 2lbs down - still not at my mid week low but now 13st 11lbs. Manic morning of exercising and picking up DD from nursery followed by food shopping. Have a good monday everyone

Macloveswill · 02/03/2015 07:41

Hey, a relief it's coming down instead of up, eh Mrs?! Well done! Enjoy the gym!

OP posts:
Mrsstevejones · 02/03/2015 08:07

Yeah burger will prob catch up with me tomorrow! So wont weigh again until monday. At the weekend i have cake to dodge as its DS 1st birthday.

Macloveswill · 02/03/2015 08:51

Better steel yourself (and have something you like on hand that you CAN eat) Wink

ProfYaffle · 02/03/2015 09:13

Used the ketostix again this morning, still in ketosis and another 2lbs off! Absolutely delighted, if I can have a few glasses of wine on a Saturday night and still lose 2lbs a week I'll settle for that.

I do feel a bit odd this morning though, light headed and properly hungry for the first time in ages. I may allow myself a couple of hundred extra calories today and see if that helps.

Macloveswill · 02/03/2015 09:29

Wow Prof! Def trying the wine next time. Congrats on the 2lbs!

Actually just been invited for girly night in tom night....Usually nibbles and lots of prosecco! I was debating whether to drink or not. Might try a night on the bubbles after your experience Grin

OP posts:
ProfYaffle · 02/03/2015 09:39

Oh God, don't do it on my say so! Not sure I can handle the responsibility! Grin

Macloveswill · 02/03/2015 10:04

Don't worry I won't blame you Prof! Wink (Much haha)

OP posts:
Mrsstevejones · 02/03/2015 17:08

Thats good news prof, wine and a loss. Perhaps wine is the way to go, in the name of experimentation i shall selflessly have champagne next week and see how it affects my weight!!

I already hurt so much after my exercise, tomorrow is going to be tough.

However i got hold of the estate agent eventually!! and will be viewing it tom, very excited.

Getting very hungry now, i had to have some pepperoni, cheese and a sausage. Dinner cant come soon enough - luckily its early in our house.

Just booked car in for mot and full service so thats another £250 gone just hoping car doesnt need much to get it through. Also dearest father has offered to pay for my heap of a car to be valetted for my birthday but now i need to clean out the 10 tonnes of stuff that i have in there after all who doesnt have a bike, pram, scooter and an assortment of clothes in their car!!Along with picnic stuff, blankets etc - i am surprised i can get the kids in sometimes -my poor car it used to be my pride and joy!

Am thinking spicy cauli fried rice for tea with left over roast chicken? or poss breast of lamb with cauli mash and gravy?

Macloveswill · 02/03/2015 22:15

Ooh I love looking at new houses....hope it's as good as it looks Mrs. I grew up next to the seaside and still miss it.

Prof....you're turning us all into alcohol experimenters.....such a great excuse to get a little tipsy guilt-free Wink

I was talking to my walking buddy tonight on our walk and we realised that our whole language has changed since our first walk on 2nd Jan. Back then we were talking about 'wanting' to get fit and get the weight off, now we're talking about definitely 'doing' it. It's been a real mindset change for me so far.

It feels really good to still be on track now that we're into March too. I'd have often given up by now on previous diets. It feels real I think for the first time in a long, long time. I'm not quite sure why. Does anyone else feel different for some reason this time around?

We don't 'want' to be slim by Christmas. We WILL be slim by Christmas!!

We are so bloody doing this thing!!

Hope you've all had a good start to the week. I had to do the cauli rice again tonight to get things, ahem...moving Smile but things otherwise good and as you can tell I'm feeling very positive. People are starting to notice I've lost weight too, but I've never been great at accepting compliments. I still have to remind myself to just graciously say thankyou!

ProfYaffle · 03/03/2015 06:58

I had an amusing conversation with dh where it turns out he thought the ketostix I'd been going on about where some sort of snack bar Confused and declared himself sceptical that they could tell me if I was in Ketosis!

I know exactly what you mean about this WOE Mac, I feel the same. I have no doubt at all that I'll stick with this and get to goal. I'm meeting some friends in the summer, one of whom I've not seen for about 20 years. I'm counting off the weeks and feel, I don't know 'confident' isn't the right word, but there's no doubt that I'll be significantly lighter by then.

I think you mentioned insulin resistance earlier in the thread didn't you Mac? I think the same about me too. Dh and I did 5:2 together ages ago. He was fine and took to it really well but I couldn't cope with it. Not only did I feel lightheaded and shaky on the fast day but also for 24 hrs after. I spent 4 days out of 7 feeling unwell so abandoned it fairly quickly. Other diets where I tried to restrict calories were the same, I just couldn't cope with the hunger. That weird, shaky urgency about eating has now vanished completely. I do wonder if there was actually an underlying reason for it.

Mrsstevejones · 03/03/2015 08:06

I know what you mean Mac i would have given up long ago, the only diet i have ever lasted on was cambridge shakes and then only for 3 months and that was only as my already bought wedding dress didnt fit. The stress it caused me was immense.

Where as this diet feels easy and whilst it was a massive mindset change (eating fat to loose weight - who knew??) i feel really comfortable doing it and the food is fab. I KNOW we will do this.

Even with the exercise i would usually feel like it is something i am forcing myself to do through gritted teeth but i dont feel that way. I want to set a good example to my kids - suddenly being healthy is about more than how i look in my jeans.

I am nearly 2 stone down since my DS was born and nearly 2 dress sizes down and my mates who i hadnt seen for a few weeks didnt say i look thinner - gutted lol.

Yuck at munching on soggy ketostix bless your DH. My hubby doesnt understand the diet he just eats what i give him, thankfully he doesnt demand carbs but then he is trying to loose a bit of weight as well.

There is a lot of stuff on the net about people with weight problems having a degree of insulin resistance. I used to get like that and would be forced to eat something. I had gestational diabetes and i know that makes me much more likely to get diabetes later in life which scared the heck out of me.

I monitored by blood sugar levels when i started low carbing and they very quickly went to normal and stayed there. My Fil has prediabetes and is likely to go to full blown very soon, he cant loose weight, cant stick to the diet and the dietician says he has to eat loads of complex carbs - i explained about the sucesses diabetics have with low carb but they are old school and just say the doc knows best. Its so sad.

The not being hungry is the best bit about this diet, without it i def could not stick at it.

I hurt all over from my exercise but antibiotics are done and toothache better.

I love buying houses and renovating them, this is the longest i have EVER lived in a house so very excited about the prospect of moving again. Although its not as fun with less money and two kids!

Good luck everyone, i am hoping to loose another half a stone this month and tone up. If i stick at this pace i should be in my summer dresses by the time i have my UK break in May - not that i can guarantee the weather to wear them!

LetMeBeLight · 03/03/2015 11:56

Morning all.

I had a bit of a blip on Sunday evening - drank too much wine. It's not so much annoying from a diet perspective, more from the perspective that I thought I had my drinking under control. It's the first time I've been drunk this year - completely dry in January and 'mindful' in February - stopping the moment I started to feel tipsy (even when on holiday which I was quite smug about!).

However, I know there's no point dwelling. Just need to be a bit more careful in the future and regularly have weekends off from drinking (weekend drinker only).

So yesterday wasn't great (felt quite ropey), but I was still ok food wise (pork belly, cabbage and kale) which I had as a late lunch, so didn't bother with dinner.

I worked from home yesterday so I could sort out getting two new tyres (£520!!). Also found out I need a new hob for my flat. I've also got a dental appt coming up to replace a crown (£400+). It is getting beyond a joke now. It's my DP's 40th birthday in one week and I had planned on getting him a very nice (read stupidly expensive) watch, but am now having genuine doubts as to whether I can afford it.

Ah well, at least the diet WILL go well this week!

Mrsstevejones · 03/03/2015 14:08

Poor you LETME - it all seems to come at once - as i am finding. I will soon need money to spend on nice things like clothes (ignoring massive clothes mountain) not useful things like tyres which i know MOT will mention - scared now at £520! I was hoping for a night in a hotel with hubby for my birthday i might book it before MOT! Hope you can jiggle things so your hubby gets a nice watch.

House is lush and i want it!!! They havent found a place they want and we arent on the market yet so hoping it all falls into place at the right moment. As its a bigger home we would need more furniture etc so that makes it even more costly plus they have some DIY bits that need doing and the house looks a bit lived in so needs some attention - again more cost!!

Had sausages and mayo and buttery coffee for breakfast. Then lunch at Inlaws, swerved the sarnies and had ham and cheese salad instead with light mayo - full fat is so much nicer!

Still havent been food shopping but DS is sleeping so MN - ing and dreaming about how i would decorate new house.

If all else fails we have the diet, atleast that doesnt cost!

Macloveswill · 03/03/2015 15:00

Chuckling at your tasty ketostix Prof ?? reminds me of a few years ago when a the training days for my business were sometimes called sizzles and DH for several months thought I was going off to BBQs!

Ah I remember the Cambridge diet well Mrs! Very similar to Kighter Life. I've done them both a few years ago and they were both effective (short term) but horrid. Great news about the house!

Letme...don't worry too much about one night of drinking, it'll happen every now and again for us all and we just have to chalk it up to a blip. Speaking of which I'm hitting the prosecco tonight (purely in the interests of weightloss experimentation of course). Blimey it's been a super pricey month for you. An austere April will be in order.

0.2lbs tiny loss this morning, but still downward dog Grin

Mac well done a loss is a loss.

Need to find the low carb equivalent of beans on toast for april! Then not go anywhere or spend any money but its our wedding anniversary and DH birthday.

I am setting a challenge for hubby for his 39th birthday - 40 things to do before you are 40 so sleep under the stars, go skinny dipping, learn to plait DDs hair, read a literary classic etc. I have asked everyone we know to suggest something to make it more personal - so any ideas from you guys would be great as you are my diet support network! The tricky thing is finding the right mix or cheap, easy and not too time consuming things as 40 things is a lot!

DS awake so off i go again

LetMeBeLight · 03/03/2015 15:20

How exciting about the house. I can't wait to move somewhere bigger (prob looking at around 18 months). I'm forever daydreaming on Zoopla looking at ones which are at least twice our budget!

Sounds like you're doing well with the food. I keep reading all the things you low carbers are eating and having to ask myself why it is I'm not doing low carb (although you can keep your bullet coffees!!).

Don't worry too much about the tyres - the ones I had done yesterday are 'run flat' so about 5 times the price of usual tyres.

If anyone has any opinions on the watches, I'd love to hear them.

  1. www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Omega-Speedmaster-Professional-Moon-Watch/p/17331157/

The TAG watch is the one I 'mentally' picked out for him ages ago. The Omega is one I know he loves from a post he made on a forum ages ago.

If I took price out of the equation, I prefer the look of the TAG watch. I don't really like the Omega one. But it's not for me so I suppose that doesn't matter Confused
