Anyone else just eating healthier/less and moving more?

I've tried every diet known to man (and done quite well on some- I was down 50 lbs before Christmas, though dreading seeing the damage an all inclusive holiday and Christmas has done!)

I've had enough of counting calories/points/syns or whatever. I'm fed up of following plans or drinking shakes. What I really want to do, after years of yo yo dieting, is to eat healthy stuff (not low fat stuff though) that excites me, in slightly smaller portions and do exercise that I enjoy. I want to cut down/out fizzy drinks (already cut these out), sugary foods, chocolate, processed stuff etc.

I not only want to lose weight, I want to lose it (and enjoy it whilst doing it) and maintain it. Yes it's a cliche, but I don't want to diet, I want a lifestyle change. I want to be able to go out to a restaurant for special occasions and not worry over how many syns/points etc the food will 'cost' me, but be able to enjoy it. I don't even know if this makes sense, but after spending so long on different plans, I'm so excited to just eat stuff that's not dictated to me, but stuff I think I should be eating.

I've just done a meal plan for next week, and an online food shop which has got me really excited to start (yes, I'm weird! Grin)

I still need to lose at least another 50 lbs. Does anyone want to join me?

haha, well done. 7 stone is amazing work! and it sounds like you are now living a very healthy lifestyle. thats got to be worth more than any last few lbs to lose.

lowcrabdiet · 12/02/2015 09:09

Reastie that is an amazing loss, well done!

Welcome to the thread, when I wobble again I might lean on your fantastic experience to get me through!

Reastie · 12/02/2015 11:21

Thanks. I know I've managed alot and done really well, but ATM I just feel like I'm putting it back on again and every tie I weigh myself it get a little bit heavier and I need some more motivation and a kick up the bum. I'm not eating badly, but my portions are increasing a bit and I'm not being as strict as I was with snacks etc so I suppose it's all adding up to the gain I've got.

Did 40 minute insanity workout this morning and then started a 30 minute body pump workout straight after but went a bit wobbly and shaky so did the warm up and gave up Blush . Still, better than nothing...

Never and low I love the nns btw. never should I never google bb because of the calories and fat or because it's got some strange urban definition I know nothing about?

lowcrabdiet · 12/02/2015 14:05

OMG Reastie I am going wobbley just thinking about that work out!

You are clearly super fit!

Strength training is a really good way of burning calories in less time than cardio. Have you tried weight training at all. There are some great websites I can link you to.

It might give you the weight loss/motivation boost you are after Smile

lowcrabdiet · 12/02/2015 14:06

Oh, stupid me, you said you were doing body pump! Blush

Reastie · 12/02/2015 15:18

Lowcrab yes, I've been mainly doing weights for a while now. I've got a heart rate monitor recently but it's depressing how few calories it tells me I burn when I do weights compared to cardio, I keep hoping it's wrong as it doesn't know that I'm lifting weights iywkim. I also keep telling myself that building muscle will raise my bmr which will mean I can eat more but not gain weight, but it's not working :/

Just ate a huge bowl of porridge for a snack, which is an example of my bad eating. Good foods but too much, must eat less, must eat less.....

Hope all are doing well today. Any nice plans for valentines? We're having to go to pil for a family get together, so not very romantic :(

MrsHooolie · 12/02/2015 16:28

Ooh yes please to those websites please lowcrab

Silverjohnleggedit · 12/02/2015 18:29

Welcome restie amazing weightloss, well done.

Now running for 15mins, 3 times a week with dog, really enjoying it, I've missed running so much! Will increase my time by 5mins every week.
And I'm practicing eating a small amount of choc mindfully and leaving the rest.....so far so good..... hopefully I have found the answer to my sugar binges, I am apparently a rebellious eater!
My choc experience had more than a hint of the goldilocks about it. First I tried a tiny bit of dd's school choc chip cookie, it was vile - no idea why she buys something so horrible, but can see why she didn't finish it, then I had a bit of a Waitrose choc tiffin and that was an improvement but it failed to hit the mark, so I then tried a Florentine, now that was just what I wanted, so I only ate half and left the rest for another time.

Dinner tonight is Pomegranate lamb tagine with barley cous cous.

lowcrabdiet · 13/02/2015 07:51

Happy birthday to me happy birthday to meeeeeeeee

I have lost the 3lbs I gained last week so I'm back down to 14.3 which means I can definately say I've lost a stone.

I think I will maintain again this week as we are off to London to buy a Heat magazine for the weekend

I will link the weight lifting websites later on. Got to pack now and try to suppress the panic and nausea I'm suddenly feeling at the thought of leaving ds for a weekend and being more than half an hour away from him for the first time ever

AimlesslyPurposeful · 13/02/2015 14:35

Flowers HAPPY BIRTHDAY LowCrab! Flowers

Very well done on seeing off those 3lbs!

Hopefully no one will buy you a huge box of chocolates for a birthday present! Hope you have a lovely weekend away. Smile

Well done on your running Silver. Your dinner sounds lovely!

Your weight loss is amazing Westie! I think we're in a similar position with our weight - having lost the bulk (I lost five and a half stone) the aim now is to lose the sneaky lbs that creep back on and keep them off.

Well, having had a bad night with the UC again I'm down to 9st 12lbs. Good to see it go down, just a shame I can't take the credit for it.

MegCleary · 13/02/2015 18:22

Happy birthday LowCrab
I am getting the scales out gulp

MegCleary · 13/02/2015 18:36

Thought I would do my normal once a week Friday half six weight and it was 70.45 boo. 11st 1.

Am going to stick to my Friday pm anyone no more false weights

Silverjohnleggedit · 13/02/2015 19:15

Happy Birthday Lowcrab Wine a 3lb loss is brilliant well done!

Sorry you're feeling poorly again aimlessly, the weight loss is a small consolation, but you must feel awful.

Meg I don't think it matters whether you weigh morning or evening, just chose one and stick to it, you'll always be lighter in the morning and heavier in the evening.

Not exactly a healthy dinner tonight, half term treat for me and the dcs! - waffles, choc mousse and honey and ginger ice cream Blush - tasted good though. Grin and all part of my plan to resolve the sugar binges, really! .......excuses, excuses!

No Valentines plans for us, I usually cook something special but this year the dcs have a party to attend, so we'll go to the pub while we wait for the party to finish.

Reastie · 13/02/2015 19:37

Meg I agree, stick to the same day/time weighing in. I do it first thing in the morning post wee with no clothes on to make me as light as possible

I made a yummy pud today, chocolate mousse made from avocado, bananas, cacoa, dates, and almond butter. Had it with some strawberries and surprisingly rich. Will try it again in future as a treat as even DD (fusspot) ate it.

Happy birthday lowcrab , have a lovely week end and inerested in links also.

aimlessly well done on the 5.5stone. Do you find every lb it feels like you have to move heaven and earth to lose? It's so depressing that I've put on a few pounds when it was so hard to lose them.

Managed 50 minutes body pump today Grin

happyfeet1 · 14/02/2015 18:59

Hi can I join you please?

Trying to lose 28lbs in the next 5-6 months. I am 12st 4.

Dd3 is 6.5 months and still BF so not doing anything too drastic just eating healthier and moving more!

I have not been one of the lucky ladies for whom the wright drops off whilst BF. In fact I am 2lbs heavier than when dd was a week old. I have 12lbs to go until I am a healthy bmi again (11st 6) and 19lbs to go to pre pg weight (10st 13). The extra 9lbs is just for vanity as I know I look and feel best at the 10st 4 mark. I am 5ft 7 by the way.

Since dd was a few weeks old I have exercised on and off and tried to eat well but tiredness has often been a big barrier and I have ordered a takeaway and eaten a family size bar of chocolate more times than I care to admit!

So I set myself a challenge on the 9th Feb to complete 20 days of healthy eating and exercise and I will weigh myself the 1st March and go from there, adjusting my plan if the scale says that I need to.

I have walked at least 5 miles for the last 5 days with my dad for company (tracking mileage on map my walk app) and today is my rest day. I have a few exercise dvds so hope to do one of those tomorrow which will finish the week off nicely exercise wise.

I am not counting calories because I get obsessive about it. I have used my fitness pal with success in the past but food was a masive focus all day everyday (constantly thinking about what to use calories on...would I have enough for this or that...then guilt whenever I went over my goal).

I am not vegan but have been cooking lots out of the Deliciously Ella cookbook and from her blog. Her food is so nutritious and that's what I am focusing on. I'm still having sweet treats in moderation (not a family size bar of chocolate at once!) and have some M&S ready meals in the freezer to use up too (never buy ready meals usually but the balanced for you range is delicious and the ingredients and salt levels look ok - beats sandwiches or soup every lunch time too).

Today I have had:
Green juice (cucumber/celery/kale/carrots/apple/lemon/ginger)
M&S chilli and rice with roasted carrots
Whitworths biscuit fruit shot thing
2 valentines truffles
Greek yoghurt and honey

I have cooked lentil bolognese from the D.E cookbook with brown rice pasta for later and will have a strawberry cornetto for pudding. This has been a typical sort of day for the past week, except for the Whitworths shot and truffles. I sometimes have rice cakes with peanut butter too.

Anyway I look forward to chatting and good luck to all!

MrsHooolie · 15/02/2015 09:00

I've had a bad few days food wise. All time of the month related. Planning to get back on the wagon tomorrow.x

MrsHooolie · 15/02/2015 09:00

Apologies for the kiss just there....text habit!

Silverjohnleggedit · 15/02/2015 09:26

Happyfeet Welcome! I've heard good things about Deliciously Ella. I lost weight after having my babies by walking while they slept, it helped me to get out of the house too.

MrsHoolie hormones are a bloody nightmare see you tomorrow!

happyfeet1 · 15/02/2015 12:48

Thanks for the welcome! Had
a couple more truffles last night...then a mint aero...then about 8 chocolate digestives!

All the chocolate left in the house basically.

I'm not beating myself up about it, I have been able to carry on as normal this morning which is a big thing for me! I'm such an all or nothing person.

Going to take the girls to the park this afternoon I think, I need to get outside, really missing my long walks, I can't wait to do my workout later.

Have a good day all.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 15/02/2015 18:18

Welcome happy !

I've stalled a little bit over the last few days, nothing too drastic just a bit of chocolate here and some biscuits there!!
Weigh day for me is tomorrow though I'm doubting I've lost anything. I'd be very happy if I'm the same as last week actually though have a feeling I may have gained. .. Will tell you tomorrow!

I'm still not exercising as much as I'd like. I have a 4 month old DD and keep meaning to go on long walks with her but the weather or illness has got in the way. I really enjoy swimming & tennis too but it's hard to find the time at the mo esp as I'm EBF-ing.

I've given myself a target of getting to 10 stone by our wedding anniversary in May. I'm currently 10 stone 13 lbs but as I say I think I may be back into the '11's' tomorrow. ..

nevergooglebrandybutter · 15/02/2015 21:27

What worked for me last summer with a newborn when the local pool shut down their creche facility was finding a spa/pool that would allow me to have the baby sleeping in the car seat while I swam.
actually worked out cheaper than local pool as parking was free and no need for a creche. I was also able to go as many times a week as I liked and didn't have to fit around a creche schedule.
it's definitely worth checking out local hotels etc.
It sounds extravagant but honestly it was cheaper.

happyfeet1 · 15/02/2015 23:14

Didn't end up going to the park, eldest 2 helped my dad plant some of his vegetable seeds. I did 8 rounds on Charlotte Crosby's dvd, It's hard work!

Swimming while baby sleeps in the car seat sounds bliss but dd3 would only sleep in it for the first month or so then decided that she hated it. Long walks are beneficial for me and dd3; baby gets a decent nap, I get exercise and fresh air. I don't find myself feeling down when I'm out for a walk most days of the week. It's amazing what a bit of exercise can do isn't it?

Today I've had green juice for breakfast, ham salad sandwiches and crisps for lunch, greek yoghurt and honey, rice cake and peanut butter, then left over lentil bolognaise with parmesan. Strawberry cornetto this evening. Drank lots of water as usual.

Feeling pretty angelic after getting a bit excited with the chocolate last night. Also very proud that I haven't weighed myself in a week!

A new week tomorrow, fresh start, let's do this Smile

ButterflyOfFreedom · 16/02/2015 10:02

So this morning's official weigh-in:
10 stone 13 lbs

The same as last week - disappointed with no loss (the first week since starting) but very pleased with no gain (despite the chocolate & biscuits - oh and the Pizza Express (huge) restaurant pizza...) Blush

I've realised that our wedding anniversary is 13 weeks away and I've 13 lbs to lose by then to hit my target - 1lb a week sounds very do-able huh????!

Will look into swimming and am going to go for an hour's walk pushing DD in her pram today. Have also ordered Davina's 7 minute workout dvd after hearing great things so hopefully I'll get back into exercising soon!

How is everyone else getting on?

Reastie · 16/02/2015 12:13

Hello Happy , I was one of those who put on weight when bfing. The dizzying hunger was really tough. I've recently got the Deliciously ELla book too. Infact, have made the quinoa pizza for my lunch and just tucking in now. I was sceptical as it looked a bit weird, but it tastes lovely

AimlesslyPurposeful · 16/02/2015 14:35

So, after weeks on this thread I'm still 10st 1lb. I just keep losing and regaining the same three or four pounds.

Have spent the weekend snacking on sunflower seeds which, are not only high in calories but they're salty too. I really have to stop buying them.

Have had a slice of toast today as, unusually, I woke up hungry but have no appetite now. Just feeling cross with myself that I haven't made more effort. Having UC flare ups hasn't helped as they leave me feeling lathargic so I gently potter rather than make any effort to move more. I sound like I'm making excuses now but I do feel a bit run down. Face full of spots too - very unfair as I have dry skin!

Re Davina's 7 Minute Workout - What do you wear to do it? It's just that it takes me longer than seven minutes to dig out my workout gear, put it on, fold/hang up clothes that I originally had on, clear the space to do the workout and load the DVD! Hardly seems worth all that to boing about with Davina for just seven minutes. Do you have to do it every day? It's just all the faffing to do just seven minutes puts me off getting the DVD despite lure of just having to do seven minutes.
