Anyone else just eating healthier/less and moving more?

I've tried every diet known to man (and done quite well on some- I was down 50 lbs before Christmas, though dreading seeing the damage an all inclusive holiday and Christmas has done!)

I've had enough of counting calories/points/syns or whatever. I'm fed up of following plans or drinking shakes. What I really want to do, after years of yo yo dieting, is to eat healthy stuff (not low fat stuff though) that excites me, in slightly smaller portions and do exercise that I enjoy. I want to cut down/out fizzy drinks (already cut these out), sugary foods, chocolate, processed stuff etc.

I not only want to lose weight, I want to lose it (and enjoy it whilst doing it) and maintain it. Yes it's a cliche, but I don't want to diet, I want a lifestyle change. I want to be able to go out to a restaurant for special occasions and not worry over how many syns/points etc the food will 'cost' me, but be able to enjoy it. I don't even know if this makes sense, but after spending so long on different plans, I'm so excited to just eat stuff that's not dictated to me, but stuff I think I should be eating.

I've just done a meal plan for next week, and an online food shop which has got me really excited to start (yes, I'm weird! Grin)

I still need to lose at least another 50 lbs. Does anyone want to join me?

Do you think your scales may have some sort of vendetta against you nevergoogle

Try threatening to chuck em out in favour of using one of those big weighing machines in a local leasure centre instead. That should teach the little buggers!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 06/02/2015 14:08

I absolutely do believe that, yes.

This set should be more grateful they weren't left under the boiler in the kitchen that leaked and broke the kitchen scales.

No gratitude.

lowcrabdiet · 06/02/2015 19:39

Don't stand for any shoddy treatment by household electronics nevergoogle you show em who's boss!

I've had another day of mad cravings today. But I think it might all be premenstrual. DH took his life in his hands by suggesting this earlier

Silverjohnleggedit · 06/02/2015 19:43

Grin Dh never knows when it's safe to mention pms - but it is without doubt a factor. I used to do 5:2 and in 5 months I broke it twice - both times I was unknowingly pre mentral - it was a week early.

Steak and homemade chips tonight...will eat mindfully.

lowcrabdiet · 06/02/2015 19:53

That sounds yum Silverjohn.

Since figuring out why I want to binge I'm feeling much more relaxed (I was starting to get anxious that I'd messed up my new eating habits somehow).

So for the rest of the night I'm surrounding myself with piles of healthy food and will just eat as much as I feel I need. I have made a sugar free, spelt flour chocolate brownie so I can even indulge a little bit!

Chottie · 07/02/2015 01:56

Hello - can I join you please?

I'm trying to lose a few pounds which will make the difference between my clothes feeling a bit snug and hanging well and fitting properly.

My boss has a constantly refilled basket of bargain buy chocolates on her desk. They are there for anyone to eat. I used to have one, or two or three...... but I've decided that I'm worth more than cheap chocolate and I have not eaten one for the last two weeks. I have also not snacked between meals.

There used to be a fridge magnet which said "little pickers, wear big knickers" and I find that one pick, leads to another so I am really trying to cut it out.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 07/02/2015 19:10

chocolate and other crap being around at work was a major weakness of mine before mat leave.

what strategies can I use when I get back. I'm back to work in six weeks and am worried about the loss of control over my environment like I've had while being at home.

lowcrabdiet · 07/02/2015 19:42

welcome Chottie I remember that fridge magnet Grin

nevergoogle I've found that I have avoided all the sweets and cakes at work (the office is full of them atm) by just taking it one decision at a time. Doing the mindful eating thing seems to have really helped. I just ask myself how much I really want whatever it is and why I want it.

If the answer is that I want chocolate because I'm hungry, I eat proper food first, then think about the chocolate later.

I'm now at the point where I barely notice the snack table or vending machines. I did buy a chocolate bar this week, but by eating mindful it lasted me 3 days!

Silverjohnleggedit · 07/02/2015 19:49

Welcome chottie
The sugar thing is something I am really struggling with, I thought the solution was going sugar free and while I was alcohol-free in January I controlled it but now it's Feb I'm struggling with alcohol lowering my self control. I don't want to give up wine, I really don't. So I'm practicing self restraint with sugar - eating mindfully, Paul McKenna style, I started this a few weeks ago by eating slower but I'm integrating the ideas more fully - I need to stop falling into a vat of sugar and i think full on restriction is making me worse, much worse.
I need to learn to enjoy one serving of cake again, without obsessing over eating the entire cake.

MrsHooolie · 07/02/2015 22:33

Booze definitely makes me want to eat,it certainly makes me feel 'what the hell'.
I'm trying to just have a glass of wine on a Saturday. Not much but then I don't drink much anyway.

Silverjohnleggedit · 08/02/2015 07:46

Thing is, I used to be able to drink without bingeing on food, it's my relatively recent move towards dieting that has changed me.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 08/02/2015 09:14

11 stone 13 (and 3/4)!!!!!

but it's an 11!Smile

lowcrabdiet · 08/02/2015 12:57

Waaaaaaaaahooooooooo well done nevergoogle!

Silverjohn you will crack your sugar binge habit I'm sure! If I can then anyone can (although I have struggled not to eat all the sugar free chocolate brownies that I made. I think I'd convinced myself they were the equivalent of fruit just because there was no refined sugar in them Blush)

MrsHooolie · 08/02/2015 13:12

I can't wait to see 11 on the scales too. Should be a couple of weeks at least for me. (Think I'm 12st 6 but having been working in Lbs recently for some reason).

Silverjohnleggedit · 08/02/2015 13:23

Amazing Nevergoogle big cake to celebrate? Wink

You'll get there mrshoolie just keep at it.

You're right lowcrab, I bloody well will crack this binge thing, I am not happy about it!!

Went for a run with the dog this morning, I thought I was running at a good pace, he looked amused at my atte mpts as he seemed to be only strolling.
Am continuing on the mindful eating route, so I need to be actually hungry before I can eat which is incredibly frustrating because I made some soda bread this morning and I have yet to feel one inkling of a hunger pang! I'm will my hunger to kick in - that's a bit odd isn't it?

Oh and yesterday I felt hungry, so I ate one of Davina's sugar free

nevergooglebrandybutter · 08/02/2015 15:41

Ran my first ever 5k without any walking bits today.Grin

Picked a flat route but had to also walk 5k just getting to and from it.

I love that running reduces my appetite for a good while afterwards. I expect to be ravenous by tea time. homemade chicken and vet curry simmering away right now. hmm.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 08/02/2015 15:42

Shock at cake to celebrate!

Silverjohnleggedit · 08/02/2015 18:59

GrinChicken and vet curry - isn't that a bit, ummm..... well...... weird...Confused Wink

Silverjohnleggedit · 08/02/2015 19:03

Brilliant at running 5k non stop nevergoogle- keep going!!

nevergooglebrandybutter · 08/02/2015 20:03

Grin vets contain a lot of protein.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 08/02/2015 20:04

keep going? I'm struggling to get up the stairs this evening.

Silverjohnleggedit · 08/02/2015 20:26

Wait till the morning, then you'll really feel it!!

MegCleary · 08/02/2015 20:29

Boo went up 3 pounds but was pretty naughty! Be better this week.

nevergooglebrandybutter · 08/02/2015 20:39

dreading it already. next run on Wednesday.

lowcrabdiet · 08/02/2015 21:16

Wow nevergoogle get you, with your 11s on the scales and 5k runs!!! Grin

I have caught a cold and have been awake since 4am. I ate a pile of crap yesterday and hyperventilated my way through a Davina work out tonight. Can I please have some of your vet curry, it's clearly some the key to super weightloss/fitness achievements!

Meg I suspect the scales will not be my friend this week either. A person simply cant eat half a tray of chocolate brownies in 24hrs (regardless of whether they are sugar free or not) and not expect to gain weight Blush
