Need to lose weight before ttc no2!

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 02/01/2015 00:56

I thought I'd start a thread as it's likely there are others in the same position.

Gave one DD who is 2.3. Would like to have another child at some point in the non too distant future but firstly I really need to lose weight, as

  1. I'm far too heavy at the moment and my knees and feet have started to ache with the strain etc. I really don't think I'd cope physically being pregnant at this size
  2. I have PCOS and the erratic periods that go with it. Weight loss supposedly helps with this (no personal experience to date) My plan at the moment is to be sensible - more home cooked meals with plenty of fruit and veg, and less processed crap! I really don't eat well, especially lately (I work evening shifts, and we moved house 3 weeks ago - I h Ave been grabbing what i can, when I can!)

I shall technically be starting on Monday, as I will be spending some of this weekend meal planning. But as of first thing in the morning I shall be starting on 3 meals a day instead of constant grazing!

Dammit. Epic Fail Blush

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 04/03/2015 16:45

Apparently no blood tests until 2 months late, marking. Angry

Ds can say a lot of things, he only says them if he really has to thou, like yesterday when I brought him in from the snow to change his socks.

He was getting annoyed and I asked him if he wanted to go out again or stay in, and he was stropping
Then shouted "stay in" and ripped his gloves off
But probably won't say it again for ages.
But somedays he says nothing. Just points and sings.

TakesTwoToTango · 05/03/2015 09:06

Aw bless him, yellow that's very cute though Smile.

marking we know a few people but not many. Hopefully we'll make lots of new friends!

Morning cold how are you doing today?

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 05/03/2015 09:38

Hi takestwo. Just deciding what to do for today. It's my day off work, so I think I should have day off from housework too lol. Might pop into town with Dd. And need to work out what to cook for dinner.
Was the hairy dieters cassoulet easy to make yellow?

OP posts:
yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 05/03/2015 11:30

Yeah really easy, I did it in the slow cooker thou, so just browned the sausages then bunged it all in.
I did do a couple of tweaks to it but can't remember what.
If you are slow cooking it just don't add as much liquid.

I've been busy today, putting baby stuff in the attic to hopefully get my spare room clear as it's doing my head in.
Lots of house work today, it's amazing how much mess 3 people can make.

I think I have today what I called pre menstrual decorating syndrome, when i get a burst of energy and have to tidy and organise things before my period, but I have a sore head and keep needing to sit down as I'm knackered, so no idea what's going on tww wise. Confused

TakesTwoToTango · 05/03/2015 12:34

Ooh lots of cleaning/tidying going on! I'm trying to do some pre-move sorting out but I have a house full of tradesmen and a prospective tenant coming to view the house ( not a good combination!!).

cold I'm doing spag Bol tonight.

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 05/03/2015 12:38

You have inspired me food wise, going to make skinny lasagne. Will go and get bolognese out the freezer.

TakesTwoToTango · 05/03/2015 15:22

yellow finger crossed on the Tww symptoms! I know this is a dieting thread but poas!! WinkGrin

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 05/03/2015 16:07

What are your easiest recipes to knock together people? I am still not very good at the whole cooking dinner thing. I'm not sure whether its lack of confidence / laziness or what.
It doesn't help that I work in the evenings either. DD and I tend to have lunch about 12:30 at the moment. I generally don't then have another meal until about 9:30 when I get home. Often end up eating far too many snacks at work - I shall just stop taking anything other than a small pot of nuts (I will eat anything and everything in my bag - mostly through boredom)

Not sure whether I should try and eat a dinner before work, or just prepare it before work so that all I need to do when I get home is whack in the microwave (or call DH as I leave work and ask him nicely to put my dinner in the oven).

Can you lovely ladies perhaps help me to plan my meals for next week? lol

In a way I am glad that we are not trying for a baby yet. I had forgotten what it was like waiting to see if period was going to turn up, and thinking every little thing was a sign of pregnancy.......it did my head in last time.

I went shopping today. Too fat to buy most clothes........[sigh]

OP posts:
TakesTwoToTango · 05/03/2015 16:30

Oh cold I hate those demoralising shopping trips Sad

I think 12:30-21:30 is a long time between meals, no wonder you are snacking at work - I'd be eating the furniture!!

What about having your main meal at lunchtime and then a lighter meal before work and a light snack afterwards?

Easy ideas for meals that we love in this house:

Chilli and rice - fry mince and onion, add any veg you fancy (we do carrots, peppers and mushrooms but you needn't add any if you don't like the idea), chuck in some tinned chopped tomatoes and some tinned kidney beans in chilli sauce (sainsburys are yum!) and hey presto! I make a huge batch and then that's dinner sorted for three nights.

Pesto salmon - bung pieces of salmon under the grill, turn them halfway through cooking and add a tea spoon of pesto from a jar to the top. Once cooked, serve with new potatoes and veg (Mediterranean like grilled peppers, courgette and aubergine go well - you can get them pre-cooked and frozen from sainsburys and you just bung them in the over from frozen). Again, you can batch cook these.

Mustard chicken - fry some chicken pieces, add a couple of large spoons of whole grain mustard, some low fat creme fraiche and stir gently until warmed through. Serve with rice and veg eg sweetcorn and spinach (I use the frozen stuff again). Can also be batch cooked and served for a couple of nights.

Voila a week's worth of main meals! Grin

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 05/03/2015 19:27

What type of things are you eating just now cold?
And do you own a food processor, it's a great thing for chopping veg with little effort.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 05/03/2015 21:58

Oooh thanks for those meal ideas takestwo
to be fair I only looked at clothes in primark today. But after walking round there and just seeing a mass of clothes in size 10/12 (apparently!!!) I couldn't be bothered to look anywhere else. I only wanted a hoody for crying out loud! Perhaps I should have looked in mens department?
Anyway, I abandoned clothes shopping and bought stationery instead. You never have to worry about a nice pen fitting properly!!

At the moment lunch is often something pasta based, sometimes soup. On a rare occasion if I am being really organised it might be quiche, newvp I rates and mixed veg. At work it will be cereal bars and the like. Then when I get home it's normally something quick, like reheated left overs, toast etc. A really really poor diet basically!! once upon a time I ate a fairly decent 3 meals a day......its been more than a year now though!

We have a mandolin slicer (that I have personally never used - scared I'll cut my fingers off!) And I h Ave a 3 in 1 blender thing - so stick blender, a whisk and the attachment I've never used (a chopper I think)
I really want one of those tefal express things so I can have finely chopped onions in seconds!

OP posts:
yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 05/03/2015 22:26

The chopper bit works like a mini food processor,I've got one, i used it before I got my big food processor.

If you chop up loads of random veg you can chuck it in with mince ( I use turkey thigh mince) and chopped tomatoes and bulk cook bolognese really quick. If you freeze portions in little bags, you can heat them up in the microwave once defrosted and even have it with a baked potato.

Thai green curry is really quick as well
The asda curry paste is good
I put it in a cold pan, heat up the pan, cook chicken, and any veg you want then put in a small tub of Philly and some milk. Takes about 20 mins. But again I bulk cook it and freeze.

I buy uncle bens whole grain micro rice to have with it.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 06/03/2015 07:27

I was feeling all pleased with myself last night. I have planned nearly every single meal until Sunday 15th March. Smile

This morning I just feel half asleep. I had a late night and dd woke 90mins earlier than usual!! I don't think we'll be doing much today before I go to work..........

OP posts:
yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 06/03/2015 09:11

Well done cold!

Ds who normally gets up at 8:30 was up at 7, possibly due to dh forgetting to turn his alarm off on his phone and it blaring out as he was walking down the stairs at 6:30.

So we are still not dressed, I have nearly finished crocheting the edging on the baby blanket for my friend thou.

You can see I have my priorities in order. Wink

MarkingMyPlace9 · 06/03/2015 11:33

Wow Yellow hopes I get names correct this time 2 Months! That must feel like a long wait. Thats nice that He can at least tell you what He wants! Aww pointing and singing, that is very cute. Bet He just sings the same thing over and over again! I'll have to try the Thai Green Curry, that sounds yum!
For me ColdFeet Anything that I can bung in the Slow Cooker I find is the easiest Dinner to do, and then just cook off some Rice/Pasta once DH is Home in the Evening. We also do Omlette some Nights Sometimes with Chips But mainly with Beans on the side. We also sometimes have Jacket Potato, we do have Cheese with it. But also it's just as nice with a bit of Butter and Salad. Maybe that's something you could think about doing a couple of late Afternoons a Week before you go to Work ColdFeet? I certainly couldn't go that long without eating!! Could you have Dinner with your DD when She has hers? Then just have some Toast, or a bowl of Cereal when you get Home after Work if your still hungry? Oh I hate those Shopping Trips. I would Love to be able to afford a Stylist right now!! No! Never the Mens Department! But Primark is deff for the smaller, I used to be a Size 14 and I would find there stuff too small even then! I generally now buy stuff from New Look (Size 16-18) and I find there pretty good. In a way, I can't wait till I am preggers so I can get loads of Maternity Strechy stuff lol.
Mmm TakesTwo those Dishes sound Delish. Especially the Mustard Chicken one, will have to try that! How are you feeling today? Hope all is going well with the Packing/Move.
Never used to do this, but since having DS, I generally don't buy Fresh Veg, I buy the Frozen, pre cut stuff. Which I can just chuck into the Slow Cooker! So much easier, and doesn't go off either Grin
Urgh, early Mornings are a killer! Puts you out of whack for the whole Day. I was up a bit through the Night with my DS, aswell as He's got a hacking cough Sad
Going to have to look back though Thread to see Skinny Lasagne Recipe as that sounds yummy!
POAS - I had to Google that one PMSL when I found out what it means!
Very good priorities there Yellow Grin

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 06/03/2015 13:00

I am having a quick sit down before making lunch. Seen as DD got me up early I have got up and got on with some stuff. Have had a shower, did housework, sorted washing etc, all with DD's help hinderance
Lunch now, then I will be putting my feet up reading some e-mails/doing some banking before leaving for work
I plan to come home at 9:30, have something quick to eat and then get straight to bed as I need to be back in the office by 8 Sad .......hate these shifts.....

I would use a slow cooker to prep meals if I worked during the day and we were short on time in the evenings

OP posts:
yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 06/03/2015 16:53

Skinny lasagne is really nice and not as stodgy as with actual lasagne sheets. Ds can't really pick it up to eat it thou, so I just cook some pasta for him, and save some bolognese. As he loves it and he eats all the veg as it's cut so small. He's at the stage of picking stuff out of things at the moment.

Steak for tea tonight, I should probably just have salad with it, but may have some chips.Blush I only had 2 steaks, can't decide if I will cook something else for ds or just share with him as he is partial to steak, I don't want to share Angry Blush

TakesTwoToTango · 08/03/2015 19:22

Evening all. How are we? I seem to have lost 1.5 lbs this week from eating a bit more mindfully (though not great today - hey tomorrow is another day!). Not managed to do any exercise but been fairly active chasing around after the kids and clearing out the house so hoping that counts!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 08/03/2015 19:55

Evening Tango How are you feeling? Well done on the weight loss. I will weigh myself Tuesday and see how I am doing. I have been naughty this Weekend Dinnerwise, but not eaten/binged on any Chocolate or Biscuits (Which is my vice!!) I told my DH my plan for Easter and He said He wanted to join me! Which will help as We can support each other. How's the Packing going?
I looked up the Hairy Biker Skinny Lasagne. I'm not fussed on Leeks, and it looked pretty fiddly too? DH and DS would never eat Leeks, so I'll have to stick to normal Lasagne, oh well, lol. We don't have Lasagne that often, so could be a 'Treat' Dinner!
How was your Steak Yellow?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 08/03/2015 20:15

It doesn't taste like leeks marking, dh hates leeks and he eats and enjoys it.
It's very odd, yeah but bit fiddly, but I like making lasagne so doesn't bother me really.
Steak was delicious!
med/rare with avocado, mushrooms, cucumber, and pepper sauce
Dh had his burnt to a crisp as requested, with chips.
I've forgotten to weigh myself, will do it tomorrow and might spur me on, I've eaten absolute rubbish for the last 2 days. Blush

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 08/03/2015 21:56

Hi all, quick check in before going up to bed to read.
I finally got round to cooking the Hairy Dieters Special Cassoulet tonight. I will make it again but will make some changes. I won't bother putting gammon in it next time, as you can't really taste it. Will just do chicken and sausage. I might do chicken breasts instead of thighs next time too. Would I need to put the chicken in later do you think yellow for instance at the same time as the beans?
I definitely want to go and buy a food processor now. 1) will save me time 2) hopefully if veg is smaller DD might eat a bit more of it and 3) when it's DH's turn to cook it won't take him 1hr to prep the veg!!

Well done for abstaining from biscuits and chocolate Marking!!!

Weighed this morning. 15st 11, and 57.4% body fat. Means I have lost 2lbs / 0.6% fat in a week. Happy with that. Though I have woken up feeling awful! Massive headache again!!

Hope you all have a great day!!
