New Year, New Thread #16 For Paul McKenna's Losers!!! He Can Make Us Thin!!!

Solo · 01/01/2015 13:03

Happy New Year Everyone!
Welcome to thread #16 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.
Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" have a glass of water to see if it's real hunger or just thirst; wait 15 or 20 minutes if you can, before eating something to see if it's 'gone off' after a drink. Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.
Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things! :)

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain; we just need to change how we treat food and ourselves.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose; it's very doable.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2015 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Hypnotic Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is 'there?' We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! Smile 1lb at a time....

Hollili - I'm 43 (44 in a few months time) - Don't know a lot about my Mum's medical history, but know she had a hysterectomy.

I'll phone the Dr tomorrow.

thanks everyone

Solo · 25/05/2015 09:38

Yes, very hard Hollii and my ME is giving me a good kicking atm too. :(

Ha! Emmie so much for my assumption! but even so, 44 is still early; mine started at around 46 and that was early.
Hope you get some answers. :)

Hello everyone. Great to find out that I am not alone in having problems with mindless eating. I am really struggling at the moment, just can't seem to stop myself from overeating. I need to lose at least 1 and a half stone . I hope by committing to this that I will try and stop this habit. Does anyone keep a food diary? I found when I tracked with WW that I did lose weight but soon piled it back on when I resumed normal eating habits. I can see the theory behind PMK, just need to put it into practice!

Solo · 27/05/2015 11:00

Welcome to you Myrtle :) get stuck in. I'll be back tonight.

Has anyone done the gastric band one? Or is the original still the best? I will order on Amazon so I can start Friday!! W

Solo · 28/05/2015 00:45

Hi moany and welcome! in answer to your question; yes, several of us have done/are doing the HGB. Personally, it was great when I did it the first time, but when I 'topped up' it seemed to undo it and I haven't been able to get it back since. No idea why.
I need to totally restart mine really, but I'm inclined to go back to the original for now :)

Hello everyone,
Can I join you?
I haven't purchased any books or apps yet and wondered what is best to get?

I am feeling a bit apprehensive about it. Have always done weight watchers in the past - successfully for a while but I always put it back on.
I was close to losing 2 stone towards the end of last year then maintained at 1.5 for a few months. Then my dd became very unwell suddenly - after a week of barely eating I began eating again and haven't really stopped since. That was 10 weeks ago. I am greedy. I can't possibly be hungry half the time I eat which is shameful.

I have regained all the weight I lost and feel so awful about it. I am embarrassed by my size and to have gained weight AGAIN.

I don't want to diet. I want to eat sensibly. To eat a varied diet without counting, pointing and weighing. I want to stop eating when I am full. I don't want to comfort eat and to binge. But I do.

Any advice would be appreciated a lot.

Solo · 01/06/2015 15:26

Hi Haverina :) welcome in!
Firstly, it isn't shameful it is just not mindful and yes, I think we can all put our hands up to that one, so you are in good company, but also company that will encourage and support you too. We won't shout failure or anything negative.

As for which book...hmmm...well, I loved the Hypnotic gastric band when it worked for me, and it could work for you too, so you could give that a good go. Or, you could go for the I Can Make You Thin book/cd as they too are very good and make a lot of sense. Why not try one and see how you feel with it? they are reasonably priced and well worth the money.

Keep posting too :) and well done for rejecting diets! I too reject all that restricts my choices!

Helloooo Solo. How you feeling now?
I made some amazing cupcakes on the weekend (my new thing). They were lemon cupcakes with lemon butter cream icing with lemon meringue sprinkles. OMG. they were so lovely. I also made coconut and white chocolate ones which were equally good Smile

Haverina doing this mindful eating is really just relearning to listen to your own true hunger signals, like children do. I did this for me but also for my daughter as I didn't want her to grow up with disordered eating or body image problems.

I would say read I Can Make You Thin first as it is the basics of how to get back in touch with your hunger and body again. The Gastric Band is brilliant too for actually making your stomach give you fullness and satiety signals very early on when eating.

How is everyone else doing???

Harverina · 04/06/2015 22:12

Thanks both - I ordered the gastric band one in the end. Either would have been ok I am sure.

It is on its way from Amazon right now. Meantime I have gone back to healthy eating. No counting just as clean as possible. I want to be healthy, I want to have energy. I don't want to be sluggish and miserable.

When I am this size I want to hide because nothing fits me. It's not fair on my children.

After 2 days eating well I feel better already. I've been drinks lots of water and no added sugar squash at work (the water gets a bit boring!) so hopefully that will help too.

I'm struggling to get away from the weight watchers mind set a bit...today I had fruit for brekkie as was running late, a chicken salad for lunch, some pineapple and watermelon in the afternoon...all good - dh made chillie for dinner using an uncle bens jar with white rice. Not exactly the worst dinner but my immediate reaction? "That's not free on weight watchers"

So a good day. Has planned on going for a cycle but dd1 has only just gone to sleep so that's not happening. Will try and cycle at the weekend.

Thanks again, your support means a lot. Looking forward to the book arriving and to listening to the cd. I've been having trouble sleeping so I hope it helps me to relax a bit too Smile

Tinwe · 05/06/2015 08:39

Hello! If like to join you please?

Solo · 05/06/2015 11:01

Milllii I am ok, soldiering on thanks :) your cupcakes sound wonderful!!

Haverina you can eat whatever you want to eat. You can have full sugar juice if you want. There are no forbidden foods or drinks with Paul and that is the beauty of it! :) I'm glad you are feeling good and you will, I'm sure feel much better still after you start with the trance and the book. Read the book first.

Tinwe :) welcome to you too. Get stuck in.

Tinwe · 06/06/2015 18:30

Hi all! Back again, thanks for the welcome Smile

I've dabbled with the plan a couple of times and lost weight well but i suppose I end up bending the rules, being a bit less mindful, forgetting to listen to the hypnosis, stopping loosing weight and losing motivation so I'm hoping this thread will help keep me motivated and focused.

I lost my baby weight about 2 1/2 years ago with running (not slim but not pudgy anymore) but my mum fell ill and died and I put all the weight back on and more. As a result I have no clothes that fit and a bad body image, apart from that I really want to set a good example for my daughters who are mini-mes Grin

I'm doing this plan and the C25k. Weight not coming off as quickly as I'm used to, think it's getting older that's doing it Confused

Not a good day today, 2 kids parties in a row with food provided for the grown ups and mindful eating out the window.

How about everyone else?

Harverina · 08/06/2015 10:14

My book arrived at the weekend so I am starting to read it tonight. Was at a wedding at the weekend and overindulged so I am happy to get started ASAP

bubulix · 08/06/2015 19:53

Hello everyone!

Well I'm back again after struggling for weeks to get back in to it. Not sure why it's been so hard but suddenly today I have managed to eat mindfully, thank goodness!

I was sitting last night and thinking "Will I go back to SW or try 5:2" and then I thought - I know Paul works, so if I think I could do SW or 5:2 why can't I do this.

Lovely to see new people on the board - I'm sure I'll be here a lot to keep me back on track.

Solo · 09/06/2015 11:40

Hello all :) nice to see you all feeling positive!
I do wish I could still run/jog!

I have been eating and enjoying a lot of salad over the past week; my 8yo Dd is a really big salad lover, so it's easy to do :) you'd think my weight would be at the very least staying the same wouldn't you?! but no! it is going up Hmm. Anyway, I'm going to go and listen to the cd again.

I have actually cancelled my appointment with the liver specialist as I have not lost the weight he told me to yet so I will need to get on with it I think. I now don't see him until December.

How are you all today? :)

bubulix · 10/06/2015 06:43

Solo - sorry to hear it's on the rise, I put on weight ridiculously fast so can sympathise!

Day two done and dusted - bring on day 3!

RabbitsarenotHares · 10/06/2015 13:42

Can I be a nuisance and join in? I'm not doing PMK but another virtual gastric band hypnosis app, which was working, but the I let thing slide and I suspect I've put on the half stone I lost. Am seeing my DM next week and know she will comment, so need to get my backside in gear now, so at least I can tell her I'm in the process of losing again!

I have two problems which are related - alcohol and lack of exercise. I don't drink to excess, but I will have a glass a few evenings a week. I know it's not much, but I'd do much better without. But I have my reasons for not wanting to give this up now, which are similar to my reasons for not doing much exercise at the moment. Come September both problems will be away, but for now my motivation for keeping the status quo is far stronger than changing.

Out of interest, does the tapping technique really work? I've been having major food cravings this week, no doubt connected to TOTM, and I've just been giving in. Am really tempted to start tapping instead.

holmessweetholmes · 10/06/2015 16:29

Another newbie here, tired of constantly thinking about food and what I should or shouldn't be eating. The eating slowly bit should have a big effect on me - I am a ridiculously fast eater! I downloaded the I Can Make You Thin audio onto my phone and have listened to the intro bit and the close-your-eyes visualising bit.

I must admit I'm a bit sceptical about whether the hypnotic listening thing, but am definitely on board with the golden rules - they make total sense.

It must be a bit tricky to be strict about only eating when you're hungry if you need to fit in with family meal times, but I should manage that fine for breakfast and lunch. I'll just have to say I'll eat my dinner later if I'm not hungry.

Quite excited about the idea of not making rules about WHAT I eat though. Smile

Solo · 10/06/2015 23:06

Hello Rabbit and holmes :) welcome!

Rabbit first of all; there are no nuisances allowed Wink, only friends, so come on in and crack on with us. I'm not going to pry and ask why you need your odd glass of wine, but PMK always says that it's better at least for the first couple of weeks not to drink alcohol if possible. You are an adult and can choose to or not. Same with exercise! For myself, I have ME, so exercise can have a very bad effect on me, so I tend not to do too much other than day to day walking and I am not a big drinker, so it's once in a blue moon I'll have just the one.
The tapping technique does work! I got into it for a while and then forgot to use it Confused and let it slide...I seem to have done the same with everything, so I need to draw a line under it all and start over!

Holmes :) why do you feel you eat very quickly? have you always done it or like me; was it trying to eat before the baby started screaming again etc? Before my Dd, I ate extremely slowly and ate like a horse and was very slim. Sadly, I have never got back to eating slowly.

I think it's a good thing to make an effort with! slim people eat slowly! :)
The hypnotic trance is a strange thing, but it really does work.
Eating/sitting with the family whilst they eat takes some getting used to, but sit with a cuppa instead of food you aren't ready to eat. And eat whatever you want to eat too! enjoy it and enjoy losing weight!! Thanks

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 11/06/2015 06:46

Solo - I've absolutely no idea why I eat so fast! I've always done it. I consciously slowed down yesterday at dinner, so I can do it!

Exercise isn't a problem for me, thankfully. I'm not working atm and I run a few times a week and walk the dog twice a day.

My main issue is snacking really. I reach mindlessly for something sweet, then I have no off button and want to inhale the contents of the biscuit tin.

I think that judging whether I'm actually hungry, combined with the 'no food item is forbidden' thing will be very good for me.

Solo · 11/06/2015 10:48

We all know that habits and addictions can be broken; I'm sure we all have a habit that we inwardly find undesirable in ourselves ~ I know I do!!

If you think you feel hungry, drink something (a glass of water is good) and wait 20 minutes and re-evaluate your hungry feeling.

So, to start with, when eating, the ideal is to eat sitting at a table, no tv's/laptops/books or other distractions that will take our minds away from our dinner plate. Take a mouthful and rest your cutlery down whilst you chew at least 20 times; consider and think about the flavours, the textures, consistencies etc and only swallow when the food is properly chewed (this is the start of the digestive process). And repeat.

Top Tip eat your favourite items first just in case you are full up before you get to them otherwise, you will be more tempted to push past your fullness and finish the plateful. Leave a mouthful (at least) on the plate and throw it away, feed it to the dog or leave in the fridge for another time that you are genuinely hungry.
Try not to drink anything during your meal.

Listen for your full signal. My personal full signal if I listen for it is a sigh. I also use pasta dishes to serve most of my family meals on. The meals tend to be smaller than when on a dinner plate.

I hope these tips help Thanks
