Fav you've got some kind of grapefruit madness Grin

No date for an op as yet, I'm still doing tea&tramadol

FavadiCacao · 29/09/2014 14:53

You could say that, Vic! Grin Dr. Tarnower must have had a fetish, he mentions at least 6 1/2 grapefruits/week for the on week (x2) of Scarsdale. Confused

The TNT diet, it can blast the fat away! Grin

Cat, all the information on Scarsdale diet is here It is surprisingly filling and adaptable to the family. :)

WyrdByrd · 29/09/2014 21:09

Ooh! I'm looking the look of Scarsdale.

Did you stick to it religiously or tweak it a bit Fava?

The low fat cheese slices & spinach lunch sounds utterly grim. I was think low fat mozzarella with baby leaf salad, cherry toms and a teeny dollop of pesto as an alternative Confused Grin .

There's also a day with eggs, cottage cheese, green beans & tomatoes - substitute tuna for the cottage cheese & make nicoise salad?

Perhaps I'm not quite committed enough yet?!

I cancelled my gym membership today but can continue going until the end of the month. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to though so nerd to check in with GP, which knowing out surgery will probably take me until the end of the month.

I will be lurking for the start of OPTober & joining in properly from next Monday.

After his appendectomy, Ds was allowed all exercises after 2 weeks except for rowing (heavy on the abs), which he had to wait 4 weeks.
On ds's discharge papers there was a number to ring, if we had any questions or concern; is there a number on your papers? How are your cuts healing?

Of course, I did not stick to SMD to the letter. I got rid of all evidence and confessed almost all on the thread. Grin

The Scarsedale is remarkably flexible, so long as you follow the basic rules:

  1. No sugar (cardinal sin), honey, syrups... but sweetners are allowed
  2. No pulses
  3. No potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams...
  4. Lean cuts of meats
  5. No alcohol on the On weeks
  6. No oil, butter, margarine or lard on the On (use water, stock, vinegar, lemon juice or a little wine instead)
  7. No dressings other than lemon or vinegar on the On weeks
  8. Unlimited quantity of whatever food is prescribed
  9. Instead of grapefruit you can have one piece of fruit of your choice.

Any day the prescribed lunch can be substituted with:
a) Fruit salad : any fruit, as much as you like, and you can add a little yogurt or creme fraiche.
b) Low fat cheese (any low fat cheese) and salad; or any cheese if you have self control.
c) Fish and salad.

Any prescribed dinner can be substituted with:
a) Fish instead of any meat.
b) Chicken or Turkey breast instead beef, lamb or pork.
c) Pork (lean) or beef (lean) instead of lamb.
d) Game (Venison, pheasant, rabbit, squirrel, zebra, Kangaroo, crocodile...) are either the same or leaner than chicken.

Any day can be swapped for the other Scarsedale diets (vegetarian, low budget, international, gourmet).

Note1: You can grill, boil, steam, roast- it really doesn't matter.
Note2: Vegetables are unlimited and you can have whatever green veg you like (except peas); peppers, mushrooms, aubergines are fine too.
Note3 Salad is whatever leaf you like, plus extra: carrots and celery are unlimited; fennel is pretty much the same as celery; cucumber, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes are fine; you can save the fruit to add to the salad.

WyrdByrd · 30/09/2014 13:45

That's really helpful. A lot of it I could do with very little problem but there's just the order meal that I think Hmm Confused .

Can you have milk in coffee (semi skimmed)?

I will have to do my alternative to the cheese day... I'm not a massive fan of cheese salad in the first place so without something to give it a bit of flavour that won't work - I'll be reaching for cake afterwards to take the taste away!

I have a strange relationship with cheese, I can eat chunks of out straight from the fridge, love it in meals - especially cooked/melted but can't bear it with salad or bread.

Fuckalella · 30/09/2014 14:31

Hi all! Sorry I haven't been around, fell off the wagon Blush did get down to 9 st 7 last week but a weekend out has left me 2lb heavier again. Well done to you hardcore lot who are keeping the thread running.

I promise to try harder in OPTober, may even attempt Scarsdale!

In other news, I got the job Grin Start next week - may make it easier to diet as I currently work from home surrounded by temptation!

FavadiCacao · 30/09/2014 16:24

Congratulations, Lella. Flowers

Byrd, You are allowed skimmed, semi-skimmed milk in the coffee, tea, in moderation. :)
You can't have cake but you can have sugar free jelly.
I love cheese straight from the fridge too. I find you can't really taste cheese (unless it's parmisan) in salads. I'm gluten free so I skip the bread anyway -I have a piece of fruit or an egg, instead. You can also swap meals or foods round, so, for example, you could have 2 slice of toast for breakfast and save the fruit to go with the cheese. :)

Cheese days ideas:
Aubergine pizzas : slice and partly oven dry aubergine (or blanch in salted water for afew minutes). Layer aubergine slice, with sliced mushrooms, tomatoes, basil/parsley and top with cheese (a tiny bit of chilli); grill or bake. 3-4 slices can be very filling.
Melanzane alla parmigiana : partially oven dry sliced aubergine; make a tomato sauce (onion, tinned tomatoes, basil, salt and pepper); create layers of aubergine slices, tomato sauce and grated cheese (+ a sprinkle of parmisan for a greater depth of flavour). Works great with courgettes too.
Courgette and tomato cheese omlette : Cook a few chunks of courgette until soft, add a few fresh chopped tomatoes (salt, pepper/chilli, parsley); add previously well beaten eggs with a handful of cheese in it; finish under the grill as too wet to flip. Leek and mushrooms (and a splash of wine) go lovely together too.
Stuffed courgette: scoop middle out of courgette to be left with tubes; spice and herb some cream cheese (eg. pepper, nutmeg...chives, parsley...); stuff the courgette and place in an oven tray; cover with previously blended tinned tomatoes with salt, pepper and grated onion; add a couple of celery stick in the tray and bake until soft (courgettes might need turning once or twice)

I have had just eggs and salad/veg for lunch before and used the cheese and tomatoes as part of dinner with the chicken : eg, chicken breast with a little pocket for cheese, wrapped in a couple of leek leaves and cooked with fresh cherry tomatoes and a splash of wine (low heat and lid on to steam); or one of the above recipes as a side dish. :)

FavadiCacao · 30/09/2014 16:39

A practical example. :)
I don't have any burgers or minced meat for tonight's dinner but I have braising steak. I have no lettuce but I have tons of courgettes in the garden. I'm stewing the steak with courgettes, carrots, celery, tomatoes in the oven and bake a few roast potatoes for the others.

WyrdByrd · 30/09/2014 17:41

Sounds like your MO is much the same as mine Fava Grin.

I love cheese and veg omelettes so that's a great idea. My DH is a chef and looks at me like Hmm when I finish them under the grill but I hate having a sloppy middle!

FavadiCacao · 01/10/2014 00:11

Yippee! OPTober is here! Grin

StairsInTheNight · 01/10/2014 19:58

Reporting in, I lost 12lbs in slimtember. Still carrying on into October as I have three more stone to lose and I'd like to shift as much as possible by Christmas.

Its fucking hard work is all I can say, am having to be obsessively tough on self and having a lot of early night's in bed with book to avoid food. Sober October is looking to be a great excuse to avoid drinking.

Well done to you all who are still going. Let's get thin enough to try on old clothes and realise they are too young for us.Confused

FavadiCacao · 01/10/2014 21:04

Well done, Stairs. Grin
Yes, it is Very hard work (I lost a total of ~5 stone) but it gets easier. :) I have chocolate, cheese and various other temptations in the house but I don't need them or crave them these days nuts might still be an issue.
We moved to OPTober, if you'd like to join us. :)

CatThiefKeith · 13/10/2014 21:01

I lost a stone in Slimtember, to get into my wedding dress.

I will be joining the new thread as soon as I get home. Two weeks all inclusive had not been kind to my arse or stomach!Grin

OttiliaVonBCup · 14/10/2014 18:07

Well done Cat!
I've fallen off the wagon spectacularly.

Kelly1814 · 31/03/2015 16:08
