Standards have slipped!

My little part time job has become almost full time, the kids have been home and it's been too hot to keep my running up. The old healthy eating has slipped too. Sugar has crept in and weight has crept on

So, sept 1st

Weigh
Measure
Start running weekly x 3
Back to bootcamp
Juicing and healthy eating

And I'm going to track the lot on myfitnesspal/mapmyrun/fitbug.com

Oh, and for the first time in going to do the water thing. 2 litres a day. That is new for me but achievable I think

So, gives us about 3 1/2 months til Christmas. Anyone else?

That makes sense bunting

I don't really ache much after running these days. She kills us at bootcamp tho!! Squats and upper body work is the worst/best.

Did some housework instead.

Food has been good so far. Baked choc chip muffins for the kids.... They won't be around for long!

I've not exercised as such yet today but have attempted to be more active at home it looks marginally tidier

I have plantar facitis (?sp) from running so am in agony standing for too long and I haven't run in weeks Sad

tibni · 16/09/2014 17:27

Pleased to say I am now exercising 3 times a week and have increased my speed and distance running and increased the weights I'm lifting.

food wise I am eating better and making better decisions. It will take time but determined to get there.

CarbeDiem · 16/09/2014 17:51

Thank you Tiggy X

I've been for a decent walk today, walked a bit further than normal - no pain so that's good. I'm hoping to start something more physical very soon.

Dinner today - Home made Pierogi (kind of dumplings) made from rye and corn flour (FU! Wheat, I don't need you even though your absence screws with my recipes a little) with a sour cheese and spinach filling. Served with salad.

Will maybe have some fruit salad later.

I've had a bit of a craving for crisps today, strange! I'm not usually a crisp lover. Will resist.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 16/09/2014 18:09

Well done carbediem on your mummy tummy getting smaller. I wonder if I'm brave enough to measure my mum tum. I can see that my august weight gain went almost entirely on my stomach, I can't do up many of my trousers.

I had a lovely food day today. I had a big veggie stirfry for lunch. For tea I finally had the quinoa that had been in my cupboard for ages. I think it was bakin who had it last week and I felt inspired. I made it with onions, mushrooms, peppers, ginger, coriander, chilli, garlic, chicken, stock and lime. I bought a mango but it didn't feel ripe yet - having said that I don't think I've ever prepared a mango myself so I'm not sure about that.

Now I have to decide what to do with a mango? I was thinking of just adding to yogurt but will google recipes.

I'm interested in the pumpkins carbe. I've had pumpkin pie before and it was a bit sweet for me but I'm sure they can be used in a similar way to butternut squash so soup or risotto?

HeySoulSister · 16/09/2014 20:23

Pumpkins! That time of year again..

My plan of action is taking my gorgeous pooch for long walks which I've actually been sticking to Wink and following slimming world at home though. I did kinda start before my holiday last wk and was suprised I maintained (on all inc too!!!) not sure how haha. Then lost 5.5lb last wk so nice suprise when I thought I would officially start this week. I'm already on my merry way Grin

CarbeDiem · 16/09/2014 22:09

Thanks Johnny - Do it! It's for your eyes only unless you want to share. I always include the mummy tummy measurement as it's a part of my body that really bothers me :(
Maybe they sweeten it in pumpkin pie ? Or that could be bollocks as I said - I've never tasted it.:)

Soul - You might not have them yet in the UK, I'm in Europe so they come earlier.

Well done I'mkeeping.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 16/09/2014 23:59

I'll measure the tum tomorrow. I'm sure if I'd done it 2 years ago it would have been about 44 inches.

Ooh, just remembered you don't get much from a pumpkin for such a massive vegetable. I have hollowed one out before to put a candle in and I think it was largely hollow. Or maybe it was hollow with seeds. Anyway I'll be interested to hear what you do with it.

Well done I'mkeeping, that's brilliant news.

Dh ate the quinoa. He even googled it and seemed to enjoy it. When I first met him (20 years ago) he was a real meat and two veg / pie eater. Now he's happy to eat quite a range of foods. So I think I'll be trying it again.

VashtaNerada · 17/09/2014 08:34

I have a training course today, lunch and refreshments provided. I have low fat rich teas in my bag and a steely determination!! Grin

HeySoulSister · 17/09/2014 08:39

Bootcamp and running for me!

Asda delivery due at lunch time, that will be 'danger time' but I will juice beforehand so won't be exceptionally hungry.

Good luck today everyone!

BirdyGoLightly · 17/09/2014 08:56

Well done Carbeidem.

I'm a bit jealous of you all sounding like good cooks. I'm a bit clueless when it comes to cooking.

Anyway, had to say this in case it helps someone else - yesterday I got really hungry and ate a whole pack of chilli chicken pieces (I know, sounds minging but was lovely.). It was still under 200 cals and more like a biggish snack. But, I then wasn't hungry for the rest of the evening. This is so so unlike me. So must have been the hefty dose of protein. I'm trying it again anyway, made the evening so easy for the first time in ages as usually that's my hungriest time.

bakingtins · 17/09/2014 10:11

I have apparently not lost a cm despite being 5lbs lighter, yet the jeans I was just squeezing back into 2 weeks ago now feel like they fit (fresh out of the wash, I haven't just stretched them!) Confused
Feeling positive though, I've had a massive clear out of my wardrobe, bought decent underwear and started a Pinterest board of things I'm going to buy when I'm at target.
Today I'm going to try the HIIT workout on my MUTU program for the first time. It's supposed to be hard work for your muscles (using weights and resistance bands) but low impact so hoping my poor joints can take it.

VashtaNerada · 17/09/2014 13:05

Training course update: 3 low-fat rich teas and one cup of tea with half a sugar consumed (two WW points). Now having a diet coke and a salad. My stomach has been rumbling so loudly! But I. Am. Determined.

HeySoulSister · 17/09/2014 13:12

birdy that's why low carbing works so well for me! Protein keeps you full, you just don't feel hungry. If you kept that up with next meal and then carried on til the next day you would get a good loss

Ran 4 miles in 42 mins, a bit of a record for me! Then a brutal bootcamp session in the same park.

I am envious of the food you are all cooking too.

My dc's are at the age where if i take my eyes off them then they get their trikes to the top of the slide and ride down. I am hoping that in time I'll be able to cook more or I need to batch cook at the weekends like I used to.

Walked to nursery & back twice, once slinging a 2 stone ds, also went swimming with him. We are making cup cakes after this afternoons nap.

I'm still being totally honest with mfp, hopefully this will show on the scales next Monday.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 17/09/2014 15:33

birdy I find evenings hard but do find snacks like chicken quite filling. Often I'll have fruit like a banana or apple or I'll mix berries with a plain yogurt.

I really like the hairy bikers diet books. I found some of the recipes had quite a lot of ingredients but I can serve things like chicken tangle pie and cottage pie to all the family whereas often I have different things to the rest of the family. Dc love pasta and I'm not such a fan.

I measured my mum tum. Waist is 31, mum tum is 38 and hips are 38. It's incredible that with just 9lbs weight gain I put on 2 inches on my bum and I don't know how much on my tummy.

I had a tin of soup today for lunch and dinner will be trout wrapped in foil with ginger, chilli, garlic and pak choi which I think Baking did first.

Then tomorrow I'll create something from the cabbage and mango I bought the other day.

VashtaNerada · 17/09/2014 17:46

My tricks for getting through the evenings (definitely my most vulnerable time for snacking!) is to go on the exercise bike while I watch TV, and to have an Options hot chocolate with a couple of marshmallows and pretend it's actually a giant bar of Dairy Milk

CarbeDiem · 17/09/2014 22:12

Sounds like we have a similar body shape currently Johnny I'm 5'10 what are you?
Good you now have measurements you can use a reference over the coming weeks months.

Thanks Birdy Get yourself on Allrecipes.co.uk and have look. There's many sites similar. Have you got a slow cooker? - you don't need to be masterchef to create delish stuff in them, honestly. Also did you see the home made soups thread - I think was in Chat? Take a look and be clueless no more :) For me there's not a lot else more satisfying maybe cake and/or chocolate than a lovely filling home made healthy soup.
I used to be crap in the kitchen until DH (Ex Head Chef) taught me a few things, he's also not English so I cook for two nationalities :)

Running Sniggering at your Dc on their trikes, I remember it well not a moments peace :) On the plus side - they're assisting with your weight loss, helping Mummy to not sit still and 5 minutes peace.

Soul You're hardcore. Just reading your exercise regime made my spine and lungs sob :)

Vash Well done for resisting ;)

Today I've had another long long walk, been dancing around as I blitzed my housework.
Food wise. I've done well. Porridge for B, a banana for L because I wasn't hungry. Fish with a few boiled pots and a salad for D
Water - not quite enough but better than none.

I did attempt my yoga ball again yesterday but it didn't end well and almost became responsible for my demise :( I posted in Chat about it so I won't bore you here but lets say I'm in no hurry to repeat the experience and my blue ball of doom is currently sat out of my way in the passage, I hate the damn thing at the moment.

Ooh! someone mentioned Hiit - I love doing it, I find the workouts on youtube - I think it's the fitness blender channel that I prefer. It's a killer when you first start but quickly gets addictive - another thing to add to my list when this back is fully better. I also enjoy Jillian Michaels 30 day shred but I'm not fit enough to start it again.

Hope everyone's having a good evening.

CarbeDiem · 17/09/2014 22:18

Oops! meant to ask also.
I know this is going to sound strange but how can I make myself enjoy Salmon?
I love fish, especially the meaty variety like cod, haddock etc.. and salmon is the same thing but I don't enjoy the taste.... It tastes of the SEA - I'm aware that sounds quite stupid Blush

I've tried it many times, different flavours added to it and I really want to like it but haven't found anything yet that takes out the taste.
DH is no help, he loves it and looks like this - Hmm when I mention the 'Sea' taste.

VashtaNerada · 18/09/2014 04:46

I know exactly what you mean about salmon! It's just too... fishy...

AggressiveBunting · 18/09/2014 07:11

Salmon: I dont mind it. We probably eat it once a week cos it's easy, but I never really look forward to it, and I'd never order it in a restaurant. It's just a bit meh. I remember it used to be a mega treat before they started farming it though. Cod was the staple- now that's the luxury.

Another mixed week diet wise. I've realised that doing lowish-carb is just not working for me in terms of training. Been reading a lot about endurance athletes and low carb diets vs more conventional diets and it seems there's no consensus. Personally I struggle to feel strong through a 20km training run if I haven't eaten many carbs in the previous 24 hrs. I need my pasta and rice. I dont understand how low carbers can create the glycogen but maybe that's just me not understanding sports science. Anyway, I've upped the carbs and feel a lot better for it. We'll see what the scales say on Monday.

bakingtins · 18/09/2014 07:41

Ooh, I love salmon! My two favourite recipes are baked in a foil parcel with a dollop of green pesto, served with new potatoes a heap of veg, or mix cooked rice, red pesto, offcuts of smoked salmon and cherry tomatoes and warm through. If you don't like the taste I doubt you'd enjoy either though. Do you like any other oily fish? I love tinned mackerel in tomato sauce too.

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 18/09/2014 08:30

carbe sadly I'm 5ft4. Think my boobs are about 37 inches so rationally I know 37 31 38 is a good figure but I still feel fat. I was largely happy with myself from March to July and maintaining so I am hoping that when I have lost 8lbs I'll finally be happy.

I like salmon but can see why you wouldn't like it, it does have a strong flavour. I tend to just bung it in foil with butter, garlic and dill. I agree it seems to have become a lot more expensive so I don't have it that often. I had trout last night, very nice it was too.

HeySoulSister · 18/09/2014 09:34

Ooh I'm 5ft 11!! Maybe the tallest on the thread!

Had boiled eggs for breakfast. On their own

Glutes are aching from yesterday... Not sure if it's from my run or bootcamp. Need to do some gardening today. Hard physical work!

Think I will brave the scales tomorrow
