Standards have slipped!

My little part time job has become almost full time, the kids have been home and it's been too hot to keep my running up. The old healthy eating has slipped too. Sugar has crept in and weight has crept on

So, sept 1st

Weigh
Measure
Start running weekly x 3
Back to bootcamp
Juicing and healthy eating

And I'm going to track the lot on myfitnesspal/mapmyrun/fitbug.com

Oh, and for the first time in going to do the water thing. 2 litres a day. That is new for me but achievable I think

So, gives us about 3 1/2 months til Christmas. Anyone else?

Ok. Been a terrible few days (wine is my downfall). I am not going near the scales till Friday. Was 133 last Friday. Going for a good week of exercising and eating well. Good luck everyone!

bakingtins · 15/09/2014 13:37

Welcome birdy I've ever heard anyone use wrinkles as an excuse not to diet before! I do think if someone is gaunt it can make them look older, but I'm not aiming for gaunt! If you lose weight gradually, particularly if you do some work on toning up as well, your body will adjust.
Whilst we're on the subject, I've found the site www.bodyvisualizer.com very motivating! It shows you your body shape at your current and target weights (and up to super-obese which is scary) I keep going and having a look when I'm tempted to cheat. 11 weeks and as much as possible of my remaining 15 lbs to shed by my 40th....

BirdyGoLightly · 15/09/2014 13:53

Thanks baking, I will try and forget that one then! (will try to find another excuse instead Grin)

I'm hungry. Had lunch. Now sat thinking about food. I will resist though....

AggressiveBunting · 15/09/2014 14:12

I think it's true to an

AggressiveBunting · 15/09/2014 14:16

Let's try that again shall we?

I think it's true to an extent about face vs body but I've got terrible lines already from too much sun ( think I was a reptile in a former life- love heat) and although fat might plump them out I've got quite a square face which doesn't carry weight well so it's not like is look good fat either. therefore I'm going for the 'body like Baywatch- face like Crimewatch' look Grin

imkeepingeverythingcrossed · 15/09/2014 14:58

I'm joining in starting todayGrin I have. 71lb to lose "gulp" but am properly motivated and ready to do this. Good luck all x

BirdyGoLightly · 15/09/2014 15:10

Haha aggressive, that made me laugh! I'm sure it won't be that bad!

Welcome imkeeping, although I'm new to this as well so prob not qualified to welcome yet!! Glad I'm not the only one starting today.

I ended up eating something else earlier when I said I wouldn't, but I've calorie counted so that's ok,ish.

I'm going on holiday next week where I can't see me sticking to this diet. To me, holidays are all about the food as well. Anyone managed to keep going whilst on holiday and have any tips?

VashtaNerada · 15/09/2014 15:33

I managed once on holiday by asking for half-portions or salads, and by repeatedly mentioning my diet to my long suffering friends so they would notice and comment if I went overboard. It was exhausting though!!

JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 15/09/2014 15:41

Face v body. I'm lucky as I think my face is ok. I'm early 40s and I don't have any wrinkles but then I've always been obsessed about getting wrinkles and even as a teenager I avoided the sun and slathered a bucket of moisturiser on my face before bed! I've lost over 50lbs but I don't think I look gaunt. I am a healthy weight (bmi about 23 or 24 I would guess) but not super skinny. My target is 8st 13 but if it affected my face I'd have fillers or Botox definitely eat some cake!

Good luck i'm keeping. Just keep coming back here on good and bad days and you'll do it.

birdy I am sometimes good on holiday - depending on where it is. I have really small breakfasts now just toast and fruit and have got out of that 'I'm in a hotel, I've paid for a huge breakfast' mentality whereas I used to stuff myself silly on fry up, pastries, toast and fruit to be healthy!

Going out I tend to have either low cal options on menus if it's a chain (like pizza express or prezzo). If it isn't then I will choose something like meat or fish with vegetables and no sauce if possible. Sauces have so many calories. So I might have a steak with salad or vegetables. Or I might ask for a salad with a dressing on the side. I also avoid anything carby like pasta, risotto or pizza (unless a low cal option). I'm not a low carber but most portions of pasta and risotto are just far too big and as I would eat a whole plate it's just too many wasted calories. As a rule I try not to have starters or puddings, apart from maybe some olives or bread shared with the family (dd2 usually eats most of it before I get there). I have also switched from cappuccinos to herbal tea.

Having said that we went to the south coast earlier in the year and I found it easy to eat well but when we had a more northern country break at half term it was impossible to eat well. We found pubs and tourist attractions that just served stodge. it was wonderful

bakingtins · 15/09/2014 16:05

The other side of the face thing is if you get to target and think your face looked better when you were fatter then it's pretty easy to put a few pounds back on, much more difficult losing it!

We went on holiday end of August and I didn't stick to diet, although we were self catering so I still cooked from scratch - we tended to eat out at lunchtime when it's easier to have something light, and cooked dinner at the campsite. I lost 2lb over the 2 weeks, despite having lots of chocolate and ice cream. We did do a lot of walking, so I guess that helped. I'd aim to maintain on holiday, so don't go mad at the all-you-can-eat buffet, but don't deprive yourself of an ice cream either.

bakingtins · 15/09/2014 16:05

Welcome imkeeping what is your plan of action?

HeySoulSister · 15/09/2014 18:44

better to have a saggy face than to not be alive anymore due to excess weight

theysay this about running....is it runners jowls or something?? well i dont care. would rather have health on my side than looks really.

i lost 5 stone and havent seen any obvious saggy bits yet!

had a good day. 5 mile run and a fitness test at bootcamp....in the rain. household jobs at home. smoothie for breakfast, post run,and salad at lunch. no idea about tonight (finished off the last portion of the calorific TRAIL MIX)

Hey all and welcome newbies.

Still being good here, well up until dinner tonight when I had 2 yorkshire puds. They were home made with rye flour and skimmed milk though so that MUST keep the cals down :)
Weigh in and measure for me tomorrow - I'm not sure I've dropped anymore from earlier in the week so we'll see.

The body/face thing - the trick is to include good fats in your diet and things like avacado. My face is ok, a few wrinkles if I squint and a few laughter lines are appearing but I've got oily skin so will wrinkle slower anyway.
I can't say the same for my tummy after losing around 4 stones years back. It was shot to shit anyway from 3 huge babies but losing weight made it worse :(

AggressiveBunting · 16/09/2014 03:56

theysay this about running....is it runners jowls or something??

Yeah- that's bloody true actually. So here's the rub. All my teens my nickname was "Hamster Face" or "Chippy" because I had quite a chubby face and I longed for cheeks that went in under my cheek bones like Kate Moss. Now I'm nearly 40 and at least I've got concave cheeks but the skin between cheek and jaw bones bounces up and down when I run- Noooooooooooooooo!!

Anyway Soul- you're right. Whereas back then I was mainly focused on getting jiggy with the hot guy in lectures, now I'm mainly focusing on not dying prematurely. Different strategy required.

Also, I think we tend to be too hard about ourselves because we generally judge others clothed and ourselves naked, plus I dont generally go round scrutinising other people's wrinkles- only my own.

Antiopa12 · 16/09/2014 07:02

Second week and not much progress here but at least I have not increased. I have a meal plan for this week, done the shopping and just need to stick to it.

AggressiveBunting · 16/09/2014 07:09

I am eating an M&S "feel fuller longer" super wholefood salad. It tastes very healthy, put it that way.

ChasedByBees · 16/09/2014 07:42

Thanks for the welcome bakingtins and soulsister :)

Yes I'm going to try and stick with SW, it seemed quite easy (in theory although I had trouble sticking to it). I don't think I'm cut out for the classes, the idea of getting a sticker for losing weight when I've just been doing the same with my toddler because she did a wee in the potty didn't quite work for me.

My problem is meetings with work - I was in one all yesterday so all meals provided and very few were healthy!

I need to plan in advance a bit more. I maintained my weight last week so I'm aiming for a loss of 2lbs this week.

Suffolkelf · 16/09/2014 09:10

Hi all,

I haven't updated since the 1st September. I lost 3 lbs the first week mainly due, I think, to not eating bread and 1 lb last week.

I have started running again and I am also following the Blogilates beginners programme, which is a lot more challenging than I was expecting.

I am not going to redo my measurements until the 30th, however my stomach feels a bit flatter and looks less bloated.

Good luck everyone!

BirdyGoLightly · 16/09/2014 09:25

Thanks for the holiday tips. I think the maintaining advice is good. I tend to be all or nothing and forget there's actually something in between.

Got first day of the diet out of the way and it wasn't too bad although I've had a headache since yesterday. Am guessing its sugar and caffeine withdrawal symptoms. Makes me even more determined to keep going if that's how much my body was used to that kind of stuff!

Had a lovely salad from Tesco, it's called butternut squash something or other. It's in the prepared salad section. Only 287 calories and I felt quite full (just in case anyone is looking for nice lunch ideas).

Can anyone else recommend any nice low cal/low fat food? I'm counting calories though so just doing prepared meals. I love the sainsburys Greek salad as well, and it's part of their meal deal.

Good luck to everyone today!

HeySoulSister · 16/09/2014 09:39

Just had seeded bread toast with eggs.... My idea being it will last me all morning and I'll only be having a 'juice' lunch! Meeting a friend for coffee then need to go shopping.

Hoping to stay active but not sure about exercise. Did loads yesterday, does anyone run daily?

OP posts:
JohnnyDeppsfuturewife · 16/09/2014 10:37

birdy I quite like the innocent veg pots but I do tend to cook meals rather than get preprepared. When I'm in a hurry I tend to have an mushroom omelette or jacket potato with tuna.

I weighed myself and I have lost 1/2 lb in a week so I am really pleased. I ate lots of bread last night and went to bed hungry for the first time in ages so I need to remind that's it's just not filling and just leads to cravings. Food delivery came this morning at 7. I am going to have some kind of stirfry at lunch and for tea have quinoa with lots of veg and possibly chicken. Dh isn't going to be happy!

AggressiveBunting · 16/09/2014 12:28

does anyone run daily?

No and I personally don't think it's optimal unless you have a really strict schedule that includes track work, recovery runs, longer runs, hill work etc, and you really stick to it. Otherwise running every day quickly turns into what I call "junk cardio" - i.e. just going through the motions of a run which doesn't really push you/ yield any results but still exerts pressure on joints. I think what you're doing- mixing up runs with boot camp is a much better idea, and also gives a better aesthetic result. Like you I have some days when I double train and then I just take a day off the next day (might do a swim/ family hike but nothing major). If you don't need that recovery day, then arguably the two sessions combined weren't hard enough.

CarbeDiem · 16/09/2014 15:37

Afternoon Ladies,
Well done losers (that feels so wrong :))

So weigh day for me.....
Still at 77 kilo which I expected as I only weighed last friday after feeling 'lighter' Yesterdays yorkie puds don't seem to have had an effect :)

The Cm's are still falling off which I am surprised about considering I'm not exercising as much as I'd like.
All in all I'm happy since the 1st I've dropped a little over 6lbs and my measurements have gone like this -
Boobs - 1st sep 39'' - today 38'' Must be back fat as my norks don't seem any smaller :)
Waist - 1st sep 32'' - today 30''
Mummy tummy - (just under my tummy button) 1st sep 41'' - today 37.5''
Hips 1st sep 41'' - today 40''
My thunder thighs are also slowly going down as are my bingo wings.

Although I'm watching what I eat, smaller portions, no shite etc... I'm NOT stressing nor obsessing which is something I would usually do. I can't exercise at the moment due to my back and I'm currently having to take painkillers every day and with them - Lactulose :( I know this stops my weight loss as It's happened in the past - so my results make me feel very motivated to continue - If I can lose under the current circumstances - what can I do when I'm fully fit and off the meds :)

Keep going ladies, good luck this week.

Oh! can I ask because I have an urge to buy one....... What can you do with Pumpkin? I've never tasted one never mind cooked with one. I'm thinking some kind of soup, I love soups.
Is it sweet? I imagine it to be but that could be because I associate it with Pumpkin pie from movies :)
They are in the shops now and grown where I live so they are so cheap. There's also different varieties but it's the orange one I'm thinking about.

tiggyhop · 16/09/2014 15:54

Well done Carbediem - that all sounds fantastic. Great news on the measurements.

I am not doing well on the eating/drinking, but have managed some exercise - 3 mile bike followed directly by 1 mile run - is an absolute killer and I have managed it twice this week. Guests leave tomorrow then I will be on the straight and narrow till weigh day on Friday.
