How can I lose 10lbs before my holiday on, er, Monday?

WhatsGoingOnEh · 12/08/2014 23:47

In a panic. Was meant to start diet in May but one thing (or rather, one pizza) led to another and now I've got less than a week.

I'm 5'6" and look great at 9st 7. This morning I was 10st 11! Shiiiiiiiit!

What can I do? I really REALLY need to crash some of this off. I don't care if it's unhealthy, it's only for a few days and I can do it properly when I get home.

Any and all ideas MASSIVELY gratefully received. What are your tried and tested tricks? Thank you!

I have been comfort eating. Stupid thing is it doesn't give me any comfort and I just hate myself even more, while getting fatter.

This is such a great thread I don't want to me the moaning one. I am sick of myself as it is all I seem to do. Pre kids I was a such a happy fun person. Now I am knackered, fat and a complete pita.

Thanks for the link Flowers.

coffeeinbed · 16/08/2014 20:46

I never dared say this here until now, but I do think a crash diet con be a good thing.

I need to see some results to keep me motivated and the one ounce a day weight loss that seems to be the recommended norm doesn't give me that.

Deux · 16/08/2014 23:00

What a fab thread. I need to shift about 8 to 10 lbs. crazy thing is, according to BMI, I'm still a healthy weight. It's bonkers as I've got plenty of fat.

Trouble is I'm already on hols but have a big list of things to buy/try when I get back. Put stuff in my amazon wish list - Scarsdale, shitters tea (fab!), various other books, that powder stuff.

I too am not motivated by the ounce a day brigade. I know if I shed some pounds quickly I will be motivated. I don't comfort eat, just got in to bad habits since kids. I can see the way it's going. A couple of pounds gain every year and bingo, before I know it I'll have an even bigger amount to shift.

I'm cheered that there hasn't been any scolding on this thread. Good luck everyone, it's cheered me up no end.

5madthings · 17/08/2014 06:55

Is it bad I am almost hoping to catch the vomit bug that dd has? Madthing4 had it a few days ago and dd woke me up by vomitting on me... So clearly she has it as well. As dp is away this is nor good as I don't like puke and being ill and on my own with the madthings would be hellish. BUT it's a pretty sure fire way to lose a good half a stone...24hrs of puke and then a couple of days of not eating as I never feel like eating after being ill... Voila my skinny jeans would fit again...

WhatsGoingOnEh · 17/08/2014 09:20

Thedietstartstomorrow - I honestly don't know if there's a Kindle version of Scarsdale. It's an old 1970s book. However, you can buy it from Amazon for 1p. If you want too see the diet now, there was a blogger who did a great site all about it. Everything's written down. It's here: lowcarblisa.tripod.com

Coffeeinbed - yes! Fast results DO boost motivation. I honestly, honestly think the "glacial weight-loss = good" is a rumour started by the huge subscription diets. The older diets are much more supportive of crashing the weight off in an extreme manner. Here's to the old days!

Well done. That's 9 very. 5kgs in 4 days. Inspirational.

WhatsGoingOnEh · 17/08/2014 09:44

Deux - I have a healthy BMI too (23.7 today) but I'm not bikini-ready. In my beloved Scarsdale book, he includes a chart of ideal weight ranges, and they are lower than recommended BMIs. He took them from life-insurance studies. People who weigh less live longer, so he writes the healthy weight ranges for each height. These are the women's ones:

5'0": 6st 6 - 7st
5'1": 6st 13 - 7st 10
5'2": 7st 2 - 7st 13
5'3": 7st 7 - 8st 6
5'4": 7st 12 - 8st 11
5'5": 8st - 9st
5'6": 8st 5 - 9st 4
5'7": 8st 8 - 9st 8
5'8": 8st 13 - 9st 13
5'9": 9st 4 - 10st 4

I like the research that showed the most sexually desirable BMI for a woman is 20.85. I'm aiming it for that. I think I have to be 9st 3lbs to have a BMI of 20.85.

OMG CatThiefKeith! What happened?! Did you get hammered??! SOD the embarrassment, pending divorce, charges that might get pressed - DID YOU LOSE WEIGHT? Weigh yourself NOW before you have an Alka Seltzer!

5madthings - longing for a puke bug isn't rational, but I completely get you. When I was at my biggest (14 stone, after first pregnancy) I used to have a daydream where I'd somehow get in a coma. Tube-fed, limbs gently exercised by attentive nurses, I'd wake up months later a perfect 9stone... Blush

I just dyed my hair

I look like a fire work

I am stressing as dh goes back to work tomorrow

Far more seriously there is only 1 egg in the house so I can't do my therapy baking

Making a roast dinner. Hating myself for just having half a size of home made bread toasted with too much lurpak on

Weighed in 12 stone 1lb.

I've had a grapefruit smoothie (1/2 tin of grapefruit whizzed in the blender with ice. Today I offered a sip to Oldest son, who went to the loo because he thought he was going to be sick. Hmm I like it! But men clearly have a physiological abhorrence of blended grapefruit.) and the dry wholemeal-toast crusts that my youngest son didn't eat. Now I'm taking them and the dog to the park.

I'm wearing size 12 :( horrible M&S jeans and I have no muffin-top! But we all know about M&S sizes. In Zara, these'd be an XXXXXXXXXL.

It's chicken for lunch today, which isn't on James Duncan but is on Scarsdale, so I'll just follow that plan today. Which means steak tonight!

On holiday (tomorrow), I'll do the Scarsdale "maintenance plan". I'll post it here later. It's just a list of what you can't eat (mainly starches, pasta, rice, etc). You're allowed a drink! Get in. Only one glass of wine. But who says that can't be a pint glass?

WhatsGoingOnEh · 17/08/2014 11:04

Itsfab - aren't you due to get your period in 3 days? I think that's the reason for your temporary 2lb gain AND your bleak outlook. The awful thing about PMT is that you can't tell you've got it from the inside, but to me it REALLY just sounds like an horrible hormonal low. Please don't give up. By next weds, you'll feel 100% better.

Can you get some of those water-retention tablets? They're good for PMT bloating. Waterfall, I think they're called. They're in most supermarkets.
