New week new start...

Yeah it is really interesting, I've never heard it before but I'm glad I have heard it becaue although I want to lose x amount a week I know I won't always do that so by someone saying well actually x a month is fine and healthy then hopefully it will help me get a little less deflated, and yes I am a larger lady I just got down into the 21's after todays weigh in and I'm so

suejoneziscalmernow · 06/09/2006 18:27

OOh well done Flutterbee, there's something very satifying about cracking into a lower stone on the scales isn't there. It almost motivates me more than the actual amount of the loss.

Fauve · 06/09/2006 18:31

That's interesting, SJ. Actually I'm averaging half a pound a week loss. It makes me feel frustrated at the slowness, but generally it is a downward curve, and I don't really feel I'm depriving myself to any great extent. Could do without this week's one pound gain, though!

Congrats on not opening the links. You really don't want to go there

WigWamBam · 06/09/2006 18:31

That is interesting. Everything I've ever read or been told suggests that 1-2lb a week is the target to aim for, but over a longer term 2lb a month would make far more sense. The slower the weight-loss the easier to keep it off, particularly if it becomes part of your lifestyle. And I guess it allows for the necessary eating and lifestyle changes to be made more gradually, so possibly less painfully.

Hats off to your doctor, suejonez - sounds as if he has his head screwed on an awful lot better than most of them do ... mine blames my weight for everything, even the pharyngitis I get every winter.

Dottydot · 06/09/2006 18:33

SueJonez - that is interesting - re: GP saying about 2lbs a month. I'm starting to think that over the past 6 weeks I've really changed the way I eat - loads more fruit and water, loads less rubbish - so even if my weight loss slows down, which I know is inevitable, I just keep thinking well at least I'm a hell of a lot healthier than I used to be! Feels like less pressure than losing a set amount each week. And if I can keep going with less sugar, more fruit and water, that's more motivating than if my weight stays the same (or goes up..!) the odd week.

Ha ha - remind me of this optimistic outlook next time I'm having a wobbly day!

Dottydot · 06/09/2006 18:33

And thanks for those Fauve - might have to save them for Christmas treats or something

Fauve · 06/09/2006 18:34

You can take them to parties and just have a sliver yourself

JackieNo · 06/09/2006 18:53

Well done Flutterbee. And suejonez - that really is fascinating, and reassuring too. I think you did say to me ages ago that between half a pound and a pound a week was the thing to aim for. It does make complete sense. Have just had for supper a 'Warm beetroot and butternut squash salad with feta and sunflower seeds' (not made by me, by Mr Waitrose) followed by a load of melon, and it was all delicious. You see - I don't have a problem with healthy food (I even like cottage cheese fgs) - it's just that there's so much other lovely stuff out there too.

suejoneziscalmernow · 06/09/2006 18:59

I know Jackie - i like healthy food too (cottage cheese salad is yum!) but for some reason when it all goes tits up I'm jusy convinced that a donut will solve all my problems. Explain that to me if you can!

Fauve · 06/09/2006 18:59

That sounds yummy, JackieNo. I could eat stuff like that all day instead of junk, too, but it does mean relying on Mr Waitrose to make it for you, otherwise cake is just so much faster, isn't it?

suejoneziscalmernow · 06/09/2006 19:00

ooh must go - off to aqua class [smug emoticon]

JackieNo · 06/09/2006 19:02

It's been nice (well, sort of) going back to work after being off all of August - several people have asked if I've lost weight. Very morale-boosting, I have to say.

justamum · 06/09/2006 23:58

Interesting stuff about the target weight loss, my mum, who is probably about 2 stone lighter than me has been told by her dr she must lose 21/2 stone, she is being sent to the nutritionist and given loads of help & she has been told the 2lb per month guide too! I think the real mind shift is to see the changes as a permanent thing and not a "diet". We all want to see results quickly and this inevitably leads to the yoyo dieting most of us do.
I am going to concentrate for the next month on doing the small changes i decided on a week or so back.

WigWamBam · 07/09/2006 10:10

Right then, this week's figures ...

alittlebitshy: stayed the same (total -17lb)
coppertop: -2lb (total -7lb)
DottyDot: -3lb (total 3.5lb)
Fauve: +1lb (total -7lb)
Flutterbee: -3lb (total 19lb)
JackieNo: stayed the same (total 26lb)
Justamum: -1lb
suejonez: stayed the same (total 14lb)
Whoopsie: -4lb (total 11lb)
WWB: stayed the same (total 16lb)

So Whoops gets the crown for her 4lb, but I think we should have a small crown for Flutterbee and DottyDot as well because their 3lb each is brilliant.

Off to start the new thread ...
