FrogBellyRatBone · 29/08/2006 16:57

Lost 2st on Atkins but have since veered more to GL type diets. Unfortuntely don't seem to be able to stick to them like I could with Atkins.Still want to lose 3 stone (have put back on nearly a stone of the weight I lost) and am debating whether to go back on Atkins. Any opinions welcomed

Hi guys! Sorry missed you all earlier. Well done FBRB although I'm gutted that I'm the fatty of the group. Agree with all the gubbins about fruit and alcohol.

My plateaus are affected greatly by exercise. I have in the past increased my weekly weight loss from nil/1lb to a consist 3-4lbs a week, by doing 40 minutes of cardiovascular exercise a week. I appreciate that this is hard to fit in but even walking every day can help.

Joelallie, I'd be interested to hear where you'd heard about ketones being a byproduct of burning dietary fat? I've not heard that before and as a nurse I test for ketones for other obvious reasons in patients, and didn't think it could be produced unless body fat was being metabolised. I agree about the depth of purple though - we've all got to keep our fluid levels up on this diet! I only ever get 1 +!

Anyway, catch you later all.

sansouci · 02/09/2006 09:09

Stepped on the scale this morning & haven't lost an ounce. So frustrated that I ate a croissant for b'fast. Now I'm really cross with myself and frustrated! I think lack of exercise must be what's keeping me on this plateau. So now for my next question: how to undo the damages of the croissant? I must be fed up (pun intended) with my diet, especially since I've been on it for months.

FrogBellyRatBone · 02/09/2006 20:27

Hi all.
Sansousi, how often do you weigh ? Regarding the croissant - depends on how many grams of carbs a day you are sticking to. I'm on 20 a day at the moment so one croissant with a count of approx 27g of carb would take me right over my limit and probably out of ketosis. The only thing to do is put it behind you and get back on track again. I'm similar to emotionalwreck in that if I don't exercise I don't tend to lose.
When I started back in Jan I was doing 2miles of uphill (literally up a hill) walking every morning before breakfast and I was losing. When I stopped the walking the weight loss stalled so it really is important. Saying that though, I've yet to start my walking again yet
How's everyone else doing ?

Sansouci, just pretend the croissant didn't happen and continue as before. We all have blips but the trick is to accept you've had one and then just get right back on track. When I've been on other diets I'd have a blip, and then use it as an excuse to eat an absloute pile of crap for the whole day - I used to think "might as well make it worth my while"... which is obviously so daft its untrue!

One trick I've tried with some success is when temptation is staring me straight in my cake hole, I think do I want to eat this more than I want to lose weight? 9 times out of 10 the weight loss wins over (nobody's perfect!)

sansouci · 03/09/2006 20:07

emotionalwreck, you have described my eating/dieting habits exactly! Once I start eating what I shouldn't, I think 'what the hell' & keep going for a whole day... or longer. And that's exactly, exactly why most diets failed for me. But the key is to keep asking yourself, 'would I rather eat or lose weight?' Once I've beaten this last 10 lbs, I'll go back to sensible ww-style eating.

I'm getting on that eliptical trainer tomorrow morning.

franyfroo · 03/09/2006 20:25

hi there. would like to join if not to late! did atkins 3.5 years ago and lost 3 stone, started childminding 3 years ago and have gained nearly 4 stone. so depressing, so fat. no clothes fit and have the energy of a pea. am determined to start again tomorrow and use the gym that i pay for every month!

emotionalwreck · 03/09/2006 20:30

But what you have to remember is you're listening to someone who still weighs 15stone!

However, in my defence I've only been back on a low carb diet for a week and prior to that I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy and had to eat crbohydrates! It set me up for continuing to eat carbs after my DD was born and its taken me 9 months of saying "I'll start again next week" to get to this stage! Keep on truckin Sansouci - just lose the yorkie bar!

emotionalwreck · 03/09/2006 20:31

Welcome frannyfroo!

MeAndMyBoy · 03/09/2006 20:34

I use a shapeworks by Herbalife - very easy and simple and the results are fab. You get everything you need - your not cutting anything out - you loss body fat so your shape changes as well as getting weight loss.

There will get to a point in most peoples weight loss that they hit a plateau and it is usually the body fat that has been around the longest and is hanging on and is the hardest to shift - to get this moving you will need to include exercise of some sort.

If you wanted any more info I'm happy to help.

H

sansouci · 03/09/2006 21:17

Not sure about Herbalife. I've been pestered by several strange people from this company, including one who kept ringing me & sending me email messages for months, even though I'd clearly said 'not interested in selling your product'.

Anyway, whatever!

emotionalwreck · 03/09/2006 21:37

Does anyone else think that Menandmyboy sells herbalife? Been there, done that - didn't get the weight loss!

Herbalife are a pyramid selling company under heavy disguise to prevent being prosecuted. They are evil, evil, evil. Look them up on google under Herbalife + scam.

I have a friend who lost a lot of money by being taken in by them. Leave well alone.

MeAndMyBoy · 03/09/2006 22:50

Sorry your thread has been highjacked Frogbelly!!

Yes I do sell herbalife I use the products and have had a result myself and want to help other people achieve their health and nutrition goals too.

I'm sorry that it didn't work for you, but there are plenty of people that it has worked for, and I am simply trying to offer another alternative to someone who is trying to lose weight and asking for experiences.

I'm interested to find out why it didn't work for you, how long ago you tried it and what sort of support you received while using the products. Please feel free to email me [email protected] or post on here because I'd like to hear about your experience.

MeAndMyBoy · 03/09/2006 22:58

themoon66 I'm sorry for your friends experience. They are not a pyramid selling company, and as far as I was aware all we were talking about was getting a weight loss result - think this has gone off topic quite heavily.

Frogbelly - I hope that whatever route you go down you get the result that you want and again appolgies for your thread having been highjacked.

NappiesGalore · 03/09/2006 23:04

low fat and carb/high protien diet will make you lose weight.
low GI (regulating energy release) is a long term eating plan that will keep it off.

NappiesGalore · 03/09/2006 23:06

only read OP, BTW.

themoon66 · 03/09/2006 23:09

Yes they are a multilevel marketing company.... see all the threads about them on MLMsurvivors yahoo website.

MeAndMyBoy · 03/09/2006 23:27

themoon66 - I respect your friends experiences but don't think this is appropriate being continued on here - it's someone elses thread and don't think she wants to have us clutter it up.

themoon66 · 03/09/2006 23:36

I just feel it pertinent to mention that Herbalife is dodgy. Sorry. Thought I was being informative. I'll bugger off now.

franyfroo · 04/09/2006 08:36

day 1 [ kids eating toast and butter, yum. best eat a sausage.

SquillosMum · 04/09/2006 09:25

Bad weekend including ice-cream and wine & not much exercise - must try harder! (I haven't dared step on scales this morning) All the rain is getting me down as I like to exercise outside - I even went for a couple of short runs 2 weeks ago, but haven't been in the right mood since. Does anyone else struggle like this, even though it's the only way to reach your goal?
SqM

sansouci · 04/09/2006 12:11

yes, squillosmum. Every single day, I struggle. The more I lose, the better I feel about myself so that helps me to keep going. But it's tough. I love carbs too much so yes, it's a definite battle.

joelallie · 04/09/2006 12:52

emotionalwreck - re the ketostix - I read about them on a low-carb diet forum I go to. There are lots of experienced low-carb bods on there so it never occurred to me to question what they say. I don't use them anyway as I tend to know when I am in ketosis by how i feel. But here goes - I thought that urine contains ketones from fat-burning whether it is stored fat or dietary fat. Once the body is in ketosis it will burn fat, if it isn't in ketosis the excess calories from dietary fat will simply be stored. Which is why it's safer to eat fat on a ketogenic diet than it is under normal circumstances when you might only be in ketosis periodically. What do you check ketones for medically? When I was in labour I was pernamently burning ketones apparently and I think that was seen as a bad thing 'cos they kept trying to make me eat bicuits (which I always threw up .

joelallie · 04/09/2006 12:55

sansouci - I'm sorry it's so hard for you . The reason that I like lc is that I don't get hungry and have no cravings. I have no willpower which is why no other diet has ever really worked for me. I don't need willpower when I'm not hungry. Don't you find you appetite reduced? I know my DH didn't which is why it didn't work longterm for him.
