Paul McKenna's 'I Can Make You Thin' Thread #15...The New Beginning!

Welcome to thread #15 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.

Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.

Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things!

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is there? We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! :)

All sounding good on here! I am ok too. Did not get to read the book on Sunday, but I will do so as I'd like to have the HGB work for me :)

Hi - can I join the thread?
Won't bore you with my issues, but have just started the plan, about a week and a half ago. Am listening to the CD twice a day, and following the rules pretty well - main issue is that I am so busy I tend to eat while doing other things so have had to work hard on breaking that habit and it's still a bit of a minefield.

I do have a question for you more experienced people however.
I am noticing that I am not eating any of the processed foods I love. For example, in the kitchen at the moment I have a tub of homemade chocolate brownies thanks to DD1 which I know are absolutely gorgeous. However for the past 24 hours I have totally ignored them, and when hungry have eaten 'proper' meals, like couscous salad, homemade veg soup, and really enjoyed them.

Am I unconsciously depriving myself of the brownies because I am still thinking in terms of forbidden foods, or is it really possible that I'm already starting to make healthy choices all the time?

I know I am very susceptible to hypnotic suggestion as I used self hypnosis in birth very successfully ( had a terrible first birth with every type of pain relief, but with self hypnosis had a VBAC of a large baby with a bit of gas and air) and I am really hoping that that's why at the moment it's going pretty well.

I have all the other CDs on order and will stick them on my phone as soon as they arrive, and am trying to force myself to do the mirror exercise (my one sticking point so far, I hate it and feel horribly self conscious)

So - nothing to worry about or will I rebel?

MillyDots · 04/09/2014 00:28

Hi Cashmiriana Welcome! Grin

Well on all his cds I think he suggests that you will eat healthier so it wouldn't be surprising if you are responding that way. He also believes that we should eat whatever we want as long as we are truly hungry. Sometimes when your eating small meals and stopping when you are satisfied, there just isn't room for brownies or other snacky things. Sometimes though I its cake I want then I will have lovely cake with a cup of coffee/tea and thoroughly enjoy it. Just go with what you really want and you will be fine.

cashmiriana · 04/09/2014 11:12

Thank you for that.

With the CDs (my complete set arrived this morning) is there a recommended schedule for listening to them? I can fit in two a day at the moment, so what's everyone's experience?

MillyDots · 04/09/2014 11:45

Well I listen to his virtual gastric band mostly as I like the way it prevents me eating more than I require but I dont do any others regularly. Which ones are you referring to?

cashmiriana · 04/09/2014 12:38

I have the original CD that comes with the I can make you thin book, plus Secrets of naturally thin people, exercise made easy, overcome comfort eating, craving buster, and programme your mind to slim your body. I think that's everything except the gastric band.

MillyDots · 04/09/2014 14:44

I have I Can Make You Thin and all the cds that go with it and the journal.
Virtual Gastric Band: This years Emotional Eating Book and CD: Instant Confidence and his Stress Free one. I think they are all brilliant and very relaxing. The only thing he says is that even if you fall into a sleep you will still take in what is said providing you wake up when he says WAKE UP.

Solo · 05/09/2014 01:10

Hi cash :) I liked the craving buster and the secrets of naturally thin people best I think, but do try to alternate them all so you don't miss anything :)

Thanks
I think I have one duplicate as it comes both with the CD set and the book, but that's fine - better to have too many! I am starting the journal today. Today's turning into a bit of a challenge - woke up very early feeling sick with hunger and it hasn't improved much. And now I have to go to work - will have to take a sandwich with me and hope my manager doesn't think I'm too mad if I suddenly start eating during our meeting.

Solo · 07/09/2014 13:42

How are we all?

Arghh! Not good here. Have had a rubbish weekend eating wise. I go back to work tomorrow (teacher) and dreading it, which would explain the emotional eating.

I need to draw a line under it and move on but can't shake the bad feeling of tomorrow Hmm.

Any ideas what a qualified teacher can do that doesn't involve the constant criticism of teaching a class??? Grin Anyone?

I can't believe that I did so well over the summer holidays and have messed it up just because if going back to work ConfusedConfused

I did pass my 3rd bookkeeping exam yesterday though Grin 2 more to go to complete the first level.

PoirotsMoustache · 08/09/2014 11:00

Well done on passing your exam mrsmiles !

You haven't messed up. You did things differently for a couple of days, that's all. Now you can go back to doing things the way you prefer. Do not beat yourself up, that's an order! Grin

I hope your first day back is going better than expected Flowers

mrsmilesmatheson · 08/09/2014 19:01

I know, I know ... And today has been better. After a weekend of eating too much I have hardly wanted to eat today. It has probably helped that I was really busy but I just haven't been hungry really all day. So I guess that's my body telling me it wanted a day off.

MillyDots · 08/09/2014 21:03

That emotional eating is a bugger isn't it? Have you tried the Havening cd when you are in the middle of an emotional eating day?

mrsmilesmatheson · 09/09/2014 17:52

I didn't Milly no, but I'll bet it would have helped actually. Off out for Dds birthday dinner now and am quite hungry probably because I have hardly fancied food all day.

MillyDots · 09/09/2014 23:04

Hope you had a lovely time mrs Smile

cashmiriana · 10/09/2014 14:14

I have a slightly odd question.

Can you all always tell when it's actual physical hunger?

I am sometimes finding it difficult to work out whether I'm hungry, or just nervy (have had a lot of stress, and am waiting for medical appointment which is making me anxious). If I leave it too long I end up getting ravenous and then it's harder to eat slowly and properly instead of just bolting the food down to stop me feeling sick and faint.

Earlier I decided to eat anyway to see what happened. I felt full quite quickly but again as I tend to feel a bit sick with nerves, still couldn't work out whether I was right.

Any ideas?

MillyDots · 10/09/2014 15:03

Hi
Emotional hunger is real but it will go away if you distract yourself and let time pass. If it gets worse and you start to get a bit desperate to eat then that to me is real physical hunger. When nothing else matters but eating.

Have you tried the Havening to help with the stress and emotional hunger? Sometimes when your stress food does help to "sooth" and keep you calm, especially carbs and sugar which is fine if you are aware of it. You could try having a cup of tea (with or without sugar) to see if that helps to sooth and calm you first and do something else for 20 mins and see how it goes.

Can you think back and remember a time when you hadn't eaten for a long time and were desperately hungry and it overrode everything else? That is true hunger. I try to remember that when I am struggling. Emotional eating is difficult though isn't it as its what we have always used to self medicate. Smile

cashmiriana · 10/09/2014 16:36

Thank you , that's helpful.
I hadn't really thought of it as emotional eating per se given that it manifests itself in real physical symptoms (griping stomach, feeling sick and light headed). I don't drink anything except water, so have tried today eating something small (half a banana etc) and leaving it half an hour. Will see how I get on. Perhaps things will improve after my medical appointment. I'm not craving anything, and I'm not eating out of habit or boredom, but it's ridiculous to spend 20 minutes interrogating my stomach!

MillyDots · 10/09/2014 17:27

If you eat and feel full soon after starting then you are recognising your signals well I would say. How long are you going between meals?

cashmiriana · 10/09/2014 22:00

Depends. I have breakfast any time between about 7.30 and 9.30 depending on how I'm feeling. Lunch has been quite late recently - maybe 2ish (which is a shock after years of enforced work lunch hours at 12) and dinner any time after 7 (a few times I've cooked for the family, and ended up eating a good hour after them)

mrsmilesmatheson · 11/09/2014 11:41

Cashmiriana I know what you mean, I've found it hard this week as my routine has changed with being back at school and having set break times (laughs hollowly as beaks are a bit non existent) but I try to eat a little and have realised that the worst that can happen is I'm a bit hungry and have to wait. I'm now though, really appreciating the freedom I had in the holidays! Lovely to be able to wait until you are truly hungry.

I've realised it's going to take a whole to settle in to being back at work and emotions are definitely playing a part in over eating again but I'm trying to reflect on them and doing the instant calm helps.

MillyCariad · 12/09/2014 01:15

How are you doing Solo? You have been quiet.Smile

MillyDots · 13/09/2014 00:14
