Paul McKenna's 'I Can Make You Thin' Thread #15...The New Beginning!

Welcome to thread #15 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

HELPFUL TIPS!
Lots of chewing; at least 20 chews per mouthful.

Ask yourself "am I really hungry?" Listen for your 'full signal' and leave at least a mouthful on your plate at every meal. Eat your favourite thing from your plate first so that if you get to the full signal, but have your favourite food still sitting there, you aren't going to 'make room' for it because you love it, it will have already gone.

Admire something about yourself every day in the mirror.
Try to move more; dance around the living room or walk to school...use the stairs...small things, but good things!

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Ps. Could we all try to sign in at least every few days so that someone is there? We have established that it's no fun talking to ourselves and also that if there is a new joiner, it's good to say 'hello and welcome' to them too.

Ok! Let's Focus and See Ourselves wearing that body we desire! learning to love ourselves is an important daily step, so let's become LOSERS in order to be WINNERS!!! :)

Thank you to everyone here. You have all been so supportive Smile.

MrsB I too am hoping I can stick to this long term. Something seems to have clicked since doing the havening and the EE track. I've tried so many times to do ICMYT and failed within days. Guess maybe my head wasn't in the right place.

MillyDots · 18/08/2014 07:41

Well done MisMather. Grin You can eat sweets though so why not buy your own...the ones you love and just eat one mindfully if you really want one.

hamptoncourt · 18/08/2014 07:55

Sixteen pounds!!!!!

Wow that is sooo impressive.

Seriouslymrs you should be so proud of that amazing loss in just two weeks. Thanks for sharing as it spurs me on to do better.

mrsmilesmatheson · 18/08/2014 09:09

Thanks guys, to be fair I think I was retaining a lot of water so it was a bit flukes but none the less I feel great and my clothes look better.

I know I can eat sweets Milly Smile and I have done. I feel bad about those particular sweets because I ate them when I was not hungry and just out of habit, dd always wants to share with me as she knows I like purple skittles Grin. I read the bit in the EE book about self sabotage and the "it doesn't count" excuse. Next time I'll get her to put them in a little bowl for me to eat when I'm hungry.

I have some fudge she brought me while staying at my mums a week ago in the fridge, have eaten about a quarter of it.

Dh got up this morning saying he was starting Cambridge diet again. He said I should join him and I declined, reminding him I'd lost over a stone simply by not over eating. He just looked a bit disbelieving. I can tell he thinks I'm going to fall off the wagon and stuff my face soon ... hmm well we'll see about that dh!

Sinfandel · 18/08/2014 10:35

Mrs - wow HUGE congrats, that's amazing. I'd like some help from you please Grin . I've tried PMcK many times over the last approx 10 years, since he first did the tv series based on ICMYT on Sky 1. I've never been able to make it click. I've got various of his books but none of the more recent ones as I decided about a year ago that I just couldn't make his system work.
I've just gone back through the thread and see that you're doing the EE book, is that right? Are you using any of the others?
Also I'm amazed by your weight loss because you've not got much to lose, I always found weight loss very slow on this system even though I have 4st to lose.
Anyway, rabbiting on here, once again massive congrats that's an amazing loss and any advice you can give would be most appreciated.

MillyDots · 18/08/2014 10:37

Ahhh ok Mrsmiles. Sorry. Your post read that you felt bad for eating sweets but your second post explained it better. Anyway, well done you.
Sixteen pounds in two weeks is amazing actually. Do you have a lot to lose? I couldn't lose that much even if I starved myself lol.

hamptoncourt · 18/08/2014 10:43

I once lost ten pounds in a week but I was going to get naked with a new guy so I had a big incentive Grin

MillyDots · 18/08/2014 10:47

So how did you do it then HamptonSmile

hamptoncourt · 18/08/2014 11:48

Fear I think. Pure fear!!

I was so excited and worried and lovesick that I just hardly ate. I reckon I was on about 400 calories a day if that.

Wouldn't recommend it obviously and I think it would be impossible to artificially replicate those complicated feelings when you are in the first throes of a love affair Grin

MillyDots · 18/08/2014 12:02

Ahhhh lovesickness.....yes that is an amazing diet isn't it ha ha.

mrsmilesmatheson · 18/08/2014 12:14

sinfandel

you sound just like me, I have always believed that the ICMYT system would work, just couldn't get my head around actually doing it before now.

I think the EE book, including the havening and the 5 questions activity have really helped me this time, it has clicked in a way it never hsas done before. I like you have tried to do this many many times ...

I also think it helps that I am off work on summer holidays and my colleague at work lost 3 stone before we broke up - nothing like a bit of healthy competition to make me want to go back to work a bit slimmer lol!

I am 5foot 5 and weigh 14.4 stone this morning.

I am still 3 1/2 stone away from my BMI "ideal weight" of 10.10 stone and I haven't been that since I was about 20 (am now 35). That's what 16 years of being with dh has done!

The lowest I have managed to get to through dieting was 11.10 and I was a size 10 but my face and neck/shoulder area looked terrible.

I think I am aiming for around 12 - 12.5 stone, so a comfortable size 12-14, still technically over weight but we will see.

Sinfandel · 18/08/2014 12:23

Thanks so much mrs.
Is the havening described in the EE book? I'm guessing it's somethign like the tapping exercise he had in his earlier books.
I'm 5'4 and was 14.7 at last weighing several months ago. Have probably stayed around that weight since as clothes from then still fit ok. I'd be really happy at 12st even though 10st is the recommended max for me, from past experience I'd be wearing a comfortable 14 at that weight.
You've done so well, I'm sure you'll continue to do well.

mrsmilesmatheson · 18/08/2014 12:47

There is a cd and DVD with the EE book. The cd contains the hypnosis tracks plus some other bits.

The DVD just has the havening on it which I think is a simplified version of the tapping and gets you to visualise a beach, lawn and various other things. I found it very relaxing and by the end id imagined it in so much detail, it was like escaping to another place. Felt really calm and positive after it and managed to do the 5 days he suggests. I will probably go back to it again as it made me realise which emotions were really causing the over eating

Sinfandel · 18/08/2014 13:03

Brilliant, thank you. I've just ordered it from Amazon, £7.
Will read ICMYT and listen to its CD again until EE arrives.

MillyDots · 18/08/2014 13:12

Well your doing bloody brilliant mrsmiles .

Solo · 18/08/2014 13:37

Wowee!! 16lbs in 2 week?!! fan bloody tastic! well done you! Grin. I have yet to read the EE book, but as I have no way to play a DVD, I will have a look on youtube I think.

16lbs in two weeks! what an incentive to continue!

Grin

Just posting to congratulatone who is making good progress!

I've got the gastric band ready and waiting, but I've had my parents staying and they like going out to eat. It seemed a shame to not be able to eat much when its their treat Grin

(And this is why I struggle to lose weight!)

Solo · 19/08/2014 02:35

When do they go home Fubsy? you can start the minute you wave them off and then join us in losing weight!!

OP posts:
Fubsy · 19/08/2014 06:52

Just getting up to drive them to the airport now. Depending on how I feel when I get back (200 mile round trip!) I'll do it tonight or tomorrow.

PoirotsMoustache · 19/08/2014 09:27

mrsmiles I think I love you! I'll tell you why, but first:

Congratulations on such a huge loss - that's absolutely brilliant!

You're the first person I have come across that seems to have the same body make up as I do. I too am 5.5 (well 5.41/2, but what's half an inch between strangers on the internet?), and weigh a little under 2 stone more than you do now. When I was younger, I went down to a size 10-12 and looked awful from the shoulders up. I'm supposed to be no heavier than 10st something, but in reality I'd be happy with 11st something, size 12-14. Which seems to be the same as you - again, I've not 'met' anyone else who doesn't want to be the slimmest they possibly can be. Not that wanting that is bad, it just isn't the right look for me!

Anyway, sorry for waffling - I'm doing a bit of heroine-worship Blush

I'm just off to order the EE book....

Solo · 19/08/2014 13:38

Me too Poirot. I'm 50 and look young for my age, but I don't want to be the size 10/12 I used to be; I don't want to have a stringy neck! A 12/14 would be fab, but I'm taller than you at about 5'8" (I've shrunk considerably).

EggInABap · 19/08/2014 13:49

Have hopped on and off these threads over the past 2 years and now going to try to permanently hop back on..................

The first time I tried ICMYT over 2 years ago I had great success with it, but I also had the added incentive to fit into my wedding dress. I have put on over 3 stone since then and have tried ICMYT and The HGB, both with limited success. It's like there is now a mental block.

I definitely have massive food issues, the second I am on a 'diet' it seems to trigger a massive binge, I've been bingeing in this way ever since doing WW when I was 18. I tried a VLCD about a year ago and lost 2 stone with it but of course put it all back on, but I think the VLCD made my issues even worse. Wish I could press a reset button and go back to when I was 18 and didn't even NEED to be doing WW, just needed to learn how to cook and eat properly instead of living off sandwiches and ready meals! I wonder how I got so messed up.

Going to dig out the books and CD's again when I get home and really try to change my life. I do find though that when reading the books I don't really absorb the information properly, maybe because I've read them so many times but also I have alot going on in my head all the time so I struggle to remember anything!

What is the EE book you are all referring to? Is this a new PM book? Would you recommend me buying this, or is it just a rehash of his previous books?

Solo · 19/08/2014 14:35

Really quickly...
FFEE

Egg welcome back. Book above.
I know what you mean about not taking the book contents in. That is me too. Too much going on in my head.

Also try the havening and the tapping techniques.

OP posts:
Solo · 19/08/2014 14:36

Meant to say that it is a different book and has really helped some of us that have got 'stuck' with the others.

OP posts:
EggInABap · 19/08/2014 16:30

Thanks Solo. Have now realised I actually have the EE book already, I must have bought it back in Jan but never got round to reading it. Will be starting it tonight! Thanks
