I am going to lose this 2 stone, for good!!

FlossyMcgrew · 03/03/2014 12:19

I will be taking "after" pictures on July 1st.

I took before pictures yesterday and they are awful. I have at least 2 stone to lose. I have joined other threads here before, with some success. Then quit after getting halfway to my goal and gaining everything back in half the time it took me to lose it.

I am 5 foot 6, have been wavering around the 12 stone mark since having my 2 dc within 13 months. Youngest is now 2.

In my "before" pictures (which I won't post until I get to post them with my afters!). It is painfully obvious that nearly all of my weight is around my middle. This is particularly worrying as my family history is full of diabetes, heart problems, cancer, strokes- you name it.

My plan is this:

MFP to track my calories

30 day shred or alternate 30 min workout 5 times a week

More conscious eating. Re-reading Paul McKenna, "I Can Make You Thin."

Easy on the carbs. My current 2 slices of toast breakfast, 2 slice of bread sandwich and crisps lunch, and insert random carb heavy dinner here, is doing me and my middle no favours.

Drink more water. At least 4 pint glasses per day.

Chew gum instead of mindless snacking.

No baking. I can think up any excuse to bake, and then of course I have to test my product--no more!

And that is basically it.....

I am hoping that I can make all of these things my new way of life, rather than a diet.

I am tired of hating myself in every picture.

I am tired of refusing to buy new clothes in this size, and looking like a slob as all of my clothes are old and don't fit properly.

I want to be healthy and I want to be here for my kids for as long as possible.

I want to be a good example for my kids.

I would like to feel attractive again.

I am going to check in here at least once a week. Monday morning weigh in to keep me honest over the weekends. Please feel free to join me, or cheer me on.

I don't want to be a diet bore in real life so I am going to use this thread for my rambling instead.

So here goes......

I gained half a lb this week but I totally deserved to. I've slowed right down on motivation and tracking, so close to losing a stone but going back and forth now with small gains and losses. Need to push on to that 1 stone milestone...then focus on the next stone!
Have had lots of things going on lately, meals out, little trips etc but all that will calm down now and I can knuckle down for a few weeks. Think I will read a bit of Paul mckenna to sort my attitude out.
Some great overall losses here so far though, keep the motivation going ladies! I've lost 12lbs in total, but think I am close to moving down a size Smile

FlossyMcgrew · 03/06/2014 23:37

Awww wow, thanks for your lovely posts magenta you had me welling up a bit there! And you know I am a sucker for a good motivational picture, those are both great :)
You have done amazingly well, and I agree, I don't just want to stop after this wedding. ( firstly because I won't be at my goal ) but also because, I would like to feel happy, healthy and confident all the time! I would love to be able to find my style, wear cute outfits, just feel more feminine and pretty in general, not just for this one event. So I will keep at it and refocus, again! Thank you Flowers

Oh and no real advice on arms from me, mine get fairly toned but take on an almost manly bicep, not the look I'm going for! :) I just had a quick google and found this article
It's a Jennifer Anniston arm workout thing from People magazine USA. May have to try some of these myself!

Thank you for the unmumsnetty hug RunningKatie our little group has been a real help to me too. Without the support from you all here and on MFP, I probably would've quit by now too! You are right, we CAN do this :)

howi I was just thinking the same thing, about dusting off my Paul McKenna book/cd. I definitely haven't been eating mindfully. I am the same, I feel like I need to push myself past this little hurdle/plateau that I have encountered and get going again.

Thanks so much for the kind words and support ladies. Feeling the motivation and positive thinking coming back to me!

Good night :)

Hi I haven't posted in so long it has fallen off my threads I'm on page!

I weighed in a day late this week because I had an exam yesterday morning and had to leave early. I weighed this morning and have put on 3/4 of a pound. Not expecting the next couple of weeks to be any better. I have dinner out of Friday at a Rhodes restaurant and will probably go for the 3 course option. Saturday night I'm out with friends so lots of alcohol no doubt, Sunday I'm going to the local carvery with my parents and brother then the following weekend we are going away!

I am still doing the shred most days and have started the 30 day abs challenge and the 30 day squats challenge so hopefully the damage won't be too bad!

I too find this thread very helpful. Being able to talk about knowing the people I'm talking to aren't bored senseless :)

Tansie · 05/06/2014 08:07

It occurs to me that I needed to lose 2 stone, as well! I was 12/6 and 5'6" 2 months ago; I've lost one stone but really could lose another! My initial 'target' is 11/2 as that puts my BMI at the very top of normal; 10/7 would put me 'safely' in the middle!

No idea if I can do it as I'm 50 and haven't been 10/7 since I was 25!

RunningKatie · 05/06/2014 08:40

Welcome Tansie Smile

I am not doing well at the moment, weight has gone up, measured myself and my waist has gone up an inch too. So that's now 2 inches i need to lose before our hols in 3.5 weeks. Sad

So, back on mfp and really being sensible. No exercise today because i'm going to be in the car for hours.

FlossyMcgrew · 05/06/2014 23:02

Evening ladies!

Amelia sounds like you have a fun couple of weeks coming up! I find it tricky to stay focused when social obligations are concerned. I never want to be one of those people that make big announcements of my diet plans, commenting how I can't eat this or that. Instead, I have just been trying to really reduce portion sizes, no second helpings, glass of water between wine glasses, etc . Trying to make little changes, not always succeeding, but trying! :)
How are you finding the ab challenge? I did day 3 today, and 25 sit ups was tough! Can't imagine doing 125 in 30 days?! But going to keep going and see what happens.

Welcome Tansie and congratulations on your loss so far!

RunningKatie when are you getting your implant removed? If your periods are on and off, that could account for your measurement change?

I am feeling more positive yesterday and today. Cutting back on bread and once again trying to get back on track with drinking water. Hope you all are doing well.

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 06/06/2014 07:14

Most of the meals out are with my DDad and I find it even harder to resist pudding when he is there!

I haven't made a big announcement either, just got on with it. I'm having quite a few people comment on how much weight I have lost which is a boost.

Just remembered I forgot to do the abs challenge yesterday Blush it is tough but I am now able to do them without one of my DDs sat on my feet Grin

RunningKatie I have put weight on every time my period is due since I started the diet in February. Hopefully it is that for you as well.

FlossyMcgrew · 07/06/2014 09:04

Just wondering, what do you all eat for breakfast? I thought I was doing well, by having eggs in some form most days,, but by the time I add a bit of cheese or a slice of toast it takes up a good chunk of my day's calorie allowance.

Yesterday I was running late and just had a small bowl of cereal and was happy to have extra calories to play with the rest of the day if that makes sense?
I am not big on porridge, I don't mind yogurt and granola type things, but again they seem to be huge on calories for the portion you get.
I suppose logically I should just drop the cheese and toast from my eggs :)
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 07/06/2014 11:03

I've just been having a 89 calorie special k bar and fruit midmorning if I'm hungry.

magentastardust · 07/06/2014 23:57

0 percent fat greek yogurt and some peaches! (and a coffee!)

howiwonder · 08/06/2014 19:09

I always have some sort of bready thing- crumpet, bagel or similar with a banana on top. Probably not the lowest calorie thing in the world but I need the energy- on a work day I don't get breaks and don't eat again til lunch in quite a physical job so I would really struggle on a light breakfast

Mozzereena · 09/06/2014 09:50

Good morning!
Day 8 and I am 2lbs lighter.
Breakfast today was 1 Weetabix, milk and honey and a white coffee. I am now going to have a slice of wholemeal toast with butter and honey washed down with a drink of hot water and mint leaves. Yum!
Spin class at 12 today. I intend to work twice as hard this week as I did last and I hope to lose another 1 or 2lbs by next week.

RunningKatie · 09/06/2014 12:07

I have porridge and marmite for breakfast Grin It does use a lot of my daily calories early on so i need to rethink, i try to avoid anything with sugar in which rules out most cereals.

Weigh in today, back to 12.5. So, wasted another week and even less time to our holiday.

I'm booked in to spin tonight, i've not been for 2 years. Nearest place to us is a school, apparently it takes place in the canteen and there are only 10 bikes. It'll be an experience Wink

Well done to everyone posting losses, I will catch up.

howiwonder · 09/06/2014 19:45

2and a half lbs off this week, so I've officially lost a stone! One more to go....

FlossyMcgrew · 09/06/2014 23:10

Finally down another pound!! After a month long plateau, down to 11 stone 6. Total loss of 15 lbs so far. Not sure I'll be ready to do my "after photos" in 3 weeks, but feeling much better to be moving in the right direction again. Thank you all for the support :)

Hearing your breakfast choices, I know I am having too much. Tonight I have made a small portion of "overnight oats" to be ready in the morning. Will report back if it's any good....

Hope the spinning classes went well.

Congrats on the losses howi and mozzereena!

Good luck everyone

Yay flossy, great going.

Spin was great fun, the instructor was my buggyfit instructor which put me at my ease. Really enjoyed it and booked in for next week Smile

The sun is shining here today so it's a walk to playgroup this morning.

FlossyMcgrew · 10/06/2014 23:17

Well, overnight oats are actually pretty good, and filling. I have made another batch for the morning!

Tonight, I started couch to 5k, and it felt great. I was up to running 45 minutes in October, but gave up when it got really rainy and cold. Think maybe now would be the time to watch eBay for a treadmill bargain.

Hope everyone had a good day with lots of sunshine, it is amazing how much it can affect your mood!

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 11/06/2014 08:22

I was going cycling but early risers scuppered that so instead i've hula hooped for 15 mins. Smile

Softplay and ikea today, i may require cakeage. Wink

FlossyMcgrew · 11/06/2014 11:50

No meatball-age RunningKatie? :) I am on a self imposed ikea ban, only because I love it so much and it always costs me a fortune. I am jealous.

DC and I are at a farm with a little soft play today. Hoping lots of walking and climbing will burn some calories.

OP posts:
FlossyMcgrew · 12/06/2014 07:55

Motivational picture time. Going to try to start underestimating my exercise calories burnt and overestimating my eaten calories on MFP instead of the other way around, which is what I'm afraid I had been doing.

Have a good day everyone!

I am going to lose this 2 stone, for good!!
OP posts:
magentastardust · 12/06/2014 10:11

Ooh Flossy I would never manage 45 mins that's a great goal to get back to.
Well I am in a bad mood today ! Time of the month (which does explain the fact that I have been sooo hungry the last couple of days). My period is also a few days late which means my next one will now land slap bang in the middle of my holiday next month.
So frustrating -all this hard work and effort and I am going to be the grumpy bloater who will now not be packing her white linen trousers that she can now fit back into on holiday!
I started another thread in general health as I am considering taking Norethisterone to delay my period but after reading old threads on here about peoples side effects of it I am not sure about taking the gamble.

Some people seem to suffer with bloating and bad pmt with it. I can't decide what is the bigger inconvenience -my period or the potential side effects.

I have taken it before a few years ago but unknown to me I had fallen pregnant just before I started taking it so although I did feel a bit out of sorts on my holiday with sore boobs, feeling a bit rubbish and tired and ahem no interest in DH whatsoever ;) -so I don't actually know which were early pregnancy symptoms and which were hormonal effects of the pills.
If anyone on this thread has any experience of it would be good to hear. I am erring on the side of just going with it and having my period on holiday as at the moment since I have been eating better and excercising I tend to only put on a lb or stay the same on my period week rather than the 4 or 5 pounds I used to put on in water retention-I just don't want to be bloated up especially after losing 35lbs!!
anyway sorry for the essay this was a bit self indulgent !
Hope everyone else having a good week :)

RunningKatie · 12/06/2014 12:49

We Ikea'd but no meatballs were eaten. I had 2 biscuits at a comittee meeting instead.

I'm have an implant magenta, and i now dislike it intensely. Once we know that dh is all clear then it's coming out. Apart from that i've been on cezarette and the mini pill. No massive side effects with those but i do wonder if the implant isn't helping my attempts, i just never know when i'm going to get a period and they can last 3 weeks.

Loving the motivational picture flossy. I saw a couple wearing fleeces saying something like " Herbal Life - 80% nutrition, 20% exercise". They were eating kfc at the time. Wink

Weigh in today, stayed the same. Wasn't really expecting much so not too surprised. Need to watch my alcohol consumption I think, reckon the wine is to blame for this weeks lack of progress!!
Just booked a spa day for July with a friend (who is probably size 10 at the most) so the pressure is on the shift a few more lbs for that, the thought of swimwear worries me!
Hope everyone has had some good news on the scales this weekSmile
