Paul McKenna Can Make Us Thin! Thread Number 14 ~ A Simple Title, for Simple Weight Loss and All amongst Friends!!

Welcome to thread 14 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

  1. Eat what you WANT
  2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
  3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
  4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth and body, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those summer outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2014 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for the sunny summer time!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we won't be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process Smile so get stuck in Smile

Here is a link to Freedom From Emotional Eating which may give some insight into why we do this and help us beat it.

Bonnie, I'm going to try and do little things - I'm going for a walk with the kids now instead of soft play, for exanpke

Bonnie152 · 18/01/2014 12:39

Thanks ladies, really going to make time to do little things for myself. Really love swimming so might think about going an evening each week (though how I will feel baring all to strangers I don't know!)

Also hubby suggested going to local woods for a walk this afternoon, would usually make excuses not to but thought why not! It'll be good to get some fresh air Smile

I think the meal tonight is going to be a challenge but we'll see!

Does anyone find they choose a lot of carbs? I find it's always what I want when hungry probably for energy and very rarely choose fruit or veg.
When it says 'eat what you want' how far do you follow that?

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 18/01/2014 12:49

I think me-time can be whatever you want it to be and I totally regard the time after the kids (4 and 22 months) are in bed as me-time (although I work 4 evenings a week so I totally make the most of my 3 nights off). I think it's about realising you deserve to do something for yourself, whether it's going to the gym, reading a book or giving yourself a facial, whatever floats your boat. We do so much for everyone else, we often forget to think about ourselves and that's when I fall into the trap of using food as a quick pick me up.

Yippee I don't agree that you need to be a certain fitness before going back to the gym or running, isn't that the whole point of starting these things, to get fit?

Holding hands with you Solo - we all deserve to be slim, happy and healthy and Pauling will get us there

BrandNewIggi · 18/01/2014 12:49

Hello, was on last thread but got lost Grin
Have been listening to the emotional eating trance - haven't stayed awake through it yet though - and do the Havening dvd.
Solo, the two aren't the same - the one in the hgb book was a shorter technique that involved tapping. The fee one is 20 mins long and is all arm-stroking! That's the one you have?

I still haven't finished the fee book, I think something is holding me back almost.. Will try this weekend.
Still haven't eaten chocolate since NY, I know it's not banned but I used to practically inhale it so nice not to be so desperate.

I go to the gym (now and then!) and there are women of all sizes, lyric not required! I think it might depend too how posh the gym is as to who goes, mine is a council run one. There are often offers in January for membership.

yippeekiyay2 · 18/01/2014 15:14

Nogood I'm not saying people shouldn't go, it's a psychological block that I have - memories of awful PE classes where both the other kids and the teacher were really unpleasant to me about my weight and level of fitness - just something that I need to overcome really.
Brandnew my gym is a Dw one so not very posh, just you get a lot of mega fit people and body builders go in I guess. Also where I live is quite a small town so lots of people who go there know lots of the others, and that would be the same anywhere here.
Don't seem to be feeling good today- having a grey day keep crying :( roll on a new day I think!

MillyRules · 18/01/2014 15:44

Solo no I didn't do the pre op stuff as being told to cut out foods and food groups would have caused me to binge. I just listen to the cd and for me it is really really good. It reaffirms to me that "satisfied" feeling as your tummy feels it has been made smaller.

MillyRules · 18/01/2014 15:51

Bonnie I eat what I want when I am properly hungry for it. At first you might find that you eat all the stuff that you have denied yourself or restricted for years but eventually when your mind realises that the food is their in abundance and that you CAN have it whenever you are hungry for it, then you start to feel the desire for other foods like salad, veg, proteins etc.
I have all the foods I love in my kitchen. Lots of chocolate, cute jars filled with biscuits, sweets, lots of lovely cheeses, hams, salami, olives, cream, wine, coke, crisps, pizza, fresh coffee , meats, loads of veg and loads of salad. Full fat mayo etc. I learnt years ago the importance of having all the foods I love in the house in overcoming my disordered eating. Now I can take food or leave it. If I really am hungry and I am hungry for chocolate then I have it. Or cake, or cheese......whatever...as long as I am truly hungry but I only have a little as that is all I require to satisfy me. I savour each mouthful and really get in the moment and this helps to satisfy all my senses and therefore leads to me not overeating.

MillyRules · 18/01/2014 15:51

there

MillyRules · 18/01/2014 15:56

With regards to the gym, you don't have to go if you don't want to. Walking is free and you can easily get yourself some free weights from Argos to use at home to tone all your muscle groups. Its much easier to find five minutes to do weights or a quick walk outside than to plan a trip to the gym. I am fortunate though as I have a gym in my garden as OH built it about 8 years ago for us both to use. It has everything in it so I use it at least 3 times a week. I used to run until a slight prolapse and then I was advised to give up running as it is the worse thing for womens internal bits. Wish I had known that years ago ......now I do a lot of walking instead.

ALittleFaith · 18/01/2014 16:30

I don't like traditional gyms. I find them so dull! I did go to Curves for several years which I loved - all ladies together, they were really supportive. You are weighed and measured monthly and they ring you if you stop going (rather than relying on you paying but not coming like most gyms!). It's only 30 minutes workout out 3 times a week. However that would be too big a commitment with a small child and part time working!
I did c25k and then on towards 10k 2 years ago. When I started I could barely run for a minute. Within 8 weeks I could run 8k without stopping! That was just building up using a c25k app about 3 times a week.

MillyRules · 18/01/2014 16:39

Watch your pelvic floor though Faith. I learnt the hard way. Much as I loved running it is the worse thing for womens pelvic floors. The physio
on Mumsnet Gussiegrips is so informative on this subject.

Bonnie152 · 18/01/2014 18:32

Milly - thanks for advice about food choices. Suppose you eventually get to the point of having a balanced diet without even thinking about it.

Have began reading the ICMYT book again this afternoon and feeling motivated Smile

I know what people mean about not caring what others think when in the gym. I feel self conscious a lot but I find it helps if I think about how I see others, I would never dream of thinking 'she's too fat to be here at the gym' so I bet people don't notice as much as I think they do Smile

Well, all ready for my meal out. Just waiting for my mum to come to babysit. When getting ready there was literally nothing 'nice' or dressy up in my wardrobe that fitted me at all Hmm just wearing normal clothes. Quite depressing but made me more determined that I need to change.

I bet it feels fantastic when clothes start getting more baggy!

MillyRules · 18/01/2014 18:43

Its a wonderful feeling, amazing Bonnie. Im experiencing that at the moment. Just got to make sure I don't sabotage and undo the progress I have made.

Have a lovely evening.x

yippeekiyay2 · 18/01/2014 22:02

Bonnie hope you have a good evening - enjoy! I am about to go up to bed as I was so down earlier (another binge day, boo!) and I was thinking about what are my trigger points for giving up, and I do think that feeling permanently tired is involved, amongst other things, so I have made a pact with myself to go to bed 10 or earlier, so I'm on a 5 minute countdown now!
Going to get out to gym tomorrow Faith I am doing the C25K while I'm there on the treadmill - did it before the summer last year and was doing really well but then just stopped (sabotaged) myself so starting from scratch with that again now...But I like to run to music outside so I am trying to get up to a reasonable level of running for me and then start doing 1 or 2 outside runs as well.
Anyway while I've been typing I've gone over my curfew Grin so better head on up! Night all.

MillyRules · 18/01/2014 22:23

yippee what do you feel causes your binges. Yes they are generally emotional, but if you can try and work out what you were feeling before your bingeing started you might be able to understand yourself more. However, if you listen to the hypnosis cds they will work on your subconscious to turn things around for you.

Jellybeans456 · 18/01/2014 23:36

Hi All including new ladies

There's been so much activity on here in the last couple of days that I can't keep up. I'm making sure that I mark my place now.
Exercise wise, I like to do Zumba and yoga once a week, purely because I really enjoy it, and feel happy afterwards.

I also walk the dog daily. I don't do the gym or any strenuous exercise, because I don't like it.

Feeling really tired at the moment, as so busy. Not had time to think, let alone eat. Well I have been eating, but there has'nt been time for any snacking. I am Conscious though, that I haven't really been mindful eating, as so much activity going on around me.

Everyone sounds like they are doing so well:)

Bonnie152 · 19/01/2014 06:09

Yippee - well done for working out your trigger and trying to change things Grin

Jellybean - you have a great attitude towards exercise, doing something you really enjoy Smile

Milly - it's great that your clothes are becoming looser! Would be lovely to go clothes shopping once at the size you want to be. I had a £90 next gift card from my job when I left a few weeks ago and have vowed when I've got to a better size I'll spend it all on something new for myself Smile

Well, meal last night - amazingly tasty food! I wasn't eating as consciously as I should as was nattering with hubby whilst eating but overall feel I did ok, didn't feel stuffed after as I usually would and then hubby and I went for a walk which I enjoyed. Hope everyone else had good evenings.

yippeekiyay2 · 19/01/2014 08:25

Morning all!
Well, I only feel half awake - still tired but dd was up and hubby seems to be on strike so he can have a lie-in so looks like I'm up...
Milly I think one of the main things is a sense of claustrophobia - being tied to the house (especially at this time of year) when I get home from work as I have dd to look after and am at work during the day so when I am in I feel like I may as well eat as we don't have anywhere to go/people to see. Also there is not much to do around here unless the weather is nice (which it rarely is!). A lot of this is excuses probably as some people would just get out there but I think I am exhausted from my job and then trying to entertain a 5 year old when I come home and because of that I am at a low point, susceptible to binging/snacking uncontrollably. Also this sounds sad but one of the things I enjoy is having wanders around shopping centres, going for coffee while I'm there and people watching and can't really do that now as the nearest indoor shopping centre is about a 2 and half hour drive away! I think this is true because when we're out for the day or on holiday and even at work I don't feel the same urges to eat. I am a true EE so there are other times when I will want to eat like if I have had a bad day, been upset etc. but in terms of regular EE I think this is part of the problem.
Bonnie glad to hear you enjoyed your night out - it's nice to get out once in a while and have a meal and a chat!
So I am determined to make today a better day eating wise - just checked the hunger scale and only feel neutral at the moment so will have my cup of tea to try and wake up and check again after that.

MillyRules · 19/01/2014 13:32

Yuppie Wow where do you live? I'm very rural in North Wales but the nearest small town is fifteen mins away.Smile

MillyRules · 19/01/2014 13:39

I remember that stage in life when my two were little. There is twenty two months between them. What about interests? Maybe you need something else....exercise routine at home or walking, knitting, reading books, start a blog, study with the OU so that when your little one is older you will have more under your belt to change career or progress.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 19/01/2014 14:26

Oh yippee you sound so down sending you a big hug. Yes, they are excuses Wink but it's hard to feel motivated when it's cold and grey and dark by 4pm. Could you not arrange for DH and DD to have some quality father-daughter time so you could have your day out? It sounds like you need a break and if this is what you enjoy most then treat yourself, if it makes you feel better this will have a positive impact on the rest of the family so it's a win-win all round.

I find Pinterest is a fantastic distraction for those nights you're just sat on the sofa and trying to resist snacking. Might be worth a try?

Milly I'm so jealous of your home gym! If we win the lottery top of my list is a house with its own indoor pool! I love running, but it really buggers up my knees so I just do lots of walking now with the odd fad on 30 day shred. I definitely don't want to risk a prolapse either so think my running days are over!

MillyRules · 19/01/2014 15:24

It didn't help my knees either NoGood.

MillyRules · 19/01/2014 15:24

I also love pinterest!!!

yippeekiyay2 · 19/01/2014 15:39

Millie I live in barrow in Furness it is right at the bottom of cumbria, it is a town but very industrial and mostly just cheap £ style shops and supermarkets so we're ok for essentials but not much fun for a wander...
NoGood is a good idea to try and get them to do something together- sometimes they go to kids club cinema together at weekend and that gives me a couple of hours! What is Pinterest? Sounds interesting!
