Anyone recently had a baby and want a support thread for losing weight?

Wondering if any new mums want to support each other in losing weight. I know there are a lot of new year weight loss threads at the moment but hoping to find others with similar goals - I'm 4 months post partum and breastfeeding so not keen on extreme dieting and too sleep deprived for extreme exercise!

I've got at least a stone to lose but ideally want to lose another half as well.

Anyone in the same boat?

Thank you :)

I bf'd for 3 months and the weight certainly didn't drop off!

Its my 'weigh day' tomorro so I hope I've lost this week, I've been good, stayed within my points all week, so fingers crossed. I always allow myself a few treats on weigh day, its the only way I can stay off the choc's! Whenever sweet bits are around I just have my 'just wait till Tuesday' mantra!!

HoratiaDrelincourt · 13/01/2014 16:02

Struggling - constantly ravenous and can't seem to satisfy my hunger. What's filling and will still aid weight loss?

DS is 9wo.

Getting a good walk every day and trying to remember to drink plenty of water/squash (I use a pint beaker and often down it in one) so those parts are easy, but the appetite Confused

I've not had a break from bf between pregnancies so I'm carrying an awful lot of weight I don't want Sad

tortoisesarefab · 13/01/2014 16:52

horatia i like bananas, snack a jacks and muller light yoghurts to stave away the hunger. Also, cups of tea.

strawberry do you use up your extra pro points and still lose weight? So far i havent been using them but think i will need to to be able to stick to it long term.

I have been quite good so far today. Went for an hour and a half walk. Not weighday for me until fri

MsFiremanSam · 13/01/2014 17:57

Horatia, I know what you mean about the appetite! I only ebf my DS for 12 weeks then mix fed, but am still ebfing DD at 5 months - at 4 months the appetite kicked in. I can eat a massive meal and still feel starving an hour later. Even with good size portions I still want snacks before the next meal. Eg today had a big omelette with beans and an hour later had to eat a big bit of (vile) soreen. Even when I'm hungry the weight isn't exactly melting off! I did walk 5 miles today as well though so that prob explains it a bit.

Finding this thread really motivating!

Hello Ladies! I'm jumping on!

I've never had to lose weight before, and actually have never lost any either. Now I'm overweight and a proud mother of 2. DC1 is 5; and DC2 is 6 weeks old.

I can't stop eating to save my life, but tomorrow morning I am going to try to go to the gym and possibly eat healthy too. I am going to need a whole lot of support!

HoratiaDrelincourt · 13/01/2014 22:03

Welcome! Have you been signed off by the mws? Have you had your 6w (ish) post natal check? If not it might be prudent to hold off on major workouts...

tortoisesarefab · 14/01/2014 09:50

Hi angrybyrd you are doing well to even consider losing weight and exercising. Dont think i could even walk properly at 6 weeks! Defo make sure you are able to exercise tho, and take it easy!

I am off for an hour walk once i have taken the kids to a playgroup. Easy for me as ds will have a nap in the pram where he is a nightmare to get him to go to bed in the day at home. Less tears all round that way. Plan to go to the gym later too. Trying to go tue, thur and sun

How is everyone else doing?

AngryByrd · 14/01/2014 22:10

Hi Ladies!

Just checking in! I actually had a c-section and have been ready to work out for quite a while. I saw my consultant last week and she's given me the go ahead to be wild. Luckily my stomach muscles have knitted back nicely, I won't be doing sit ups for a while yet, but I can go back to running.

So, I've eaten 1200 calories today and I went swimming for an hour. I've also had a walk for an hour.

Tomorrow I hope to run for an hour, walk for an hour and swim for an hour. Again, eat 1200 calories and breast feed.

Funnily enough, I sat in the sauna today for 30 minutes and both my boobs have burn marks on them! I wonder if my milk has gone bad? I fed baby and she seemed okay but if the sauna was hot enough to leave two very large burn marks on each boob then who knows whats happened to my milk.

How are you girls doing? x

MsFiremanSam · 16/01/2014 19:14

Wow Angry, really impressed with your exercise regime!

Done a 5 and a 4 mile walk this week, plus 2 DVDs at home, so not done too badly, although gave in to cake twice Hmm. Sooo tired at the moment...DD waking 3 times in the night for feeds and DS waking because apparently there are monsters under his bed and the big bad wolf is coming....agh. Trying to focus in eating for energy and to boost my immune system - had about 4 colds in a row!

Haven't weighed yet but will do tomorrow. Aiming for 1llb a week while bf.

Well done everyone!

I put on 2lbs boo hoo, but it's motivation to keep going. Have struggled since the weekend but plan is to have a good day today and tomorrow and hope it's enough to get me back into ze 'zone'.

Smile
GeorgieWilson · 17/01/2014 16:47

Nice to know it wasn't just me who lost no weight bf! My friend eats chocolate and biscuits constantly but casually announced last week she's back to pre baby weight already just from bf (her baby is 9 weeks!)
Well done on the excellent weeks loss tortoise!
I'm doing ww monthly pass, went rather over my points last week but still managed to lose 2.5 pounds. Sticking to it rigidly this week so far (long may it last) so fingers crossed for a good week.

GeorgieWilson · 17/01/2014 17:06

Hope your day's been good Angel! Forget about last week and focus on the next!

tortoisesarefab · 17/01/2014 20:07

Hi everyone, another 2.5lb down here. Having a glass or two of wine tonight but then need to get back to being serious! I have a little break away in 2 weeks so i want to be strict until then so i can relax a bit when away.

How did you get on firemansam? Sounds like you have been doing well on the exercise front.

georgie 2.5lb loss is great, just what they advise. Do you stick to the basic points usually or use your extra pro points?

angel nevermind, you can easily lose that 2lb. If you need a little break over thr weekend, have one and get back on the wagon on mon

GeorgieWilson · 18/01/2014 19:11

Well done tortoise, that's fab. Good to have a break to look forward to as well.
I'm surprising my partner with a weekend away at the end of February (big birthday) so am using that as incentive to hopefully be able to squeeze into some of my old jeans.
I did use all my pro points plus the extra plus 20 exercise points and a couple more last week - opps! Been much better this week though as used only daily points and a few of the extra tonight for a nice meal and glass of wine. Hopefully will show in the scales on wed.
Have a good week everybody!

MsFiremanSam · 19/01/2014 08:43

Well done tortoise and georgiewilson, you're doing brilliantly!

Been pretty good on food front but no exercise for a couple of days. Still can't shake off this blasted cold, had it for 6 weeks now so think it could be sinus infection. Immune system is shot to pieces!

Haven't weighed in yet, don't think I've lost any more though. Often go a few weeks with nothing, then suddenly a few pounds at once, so hoping for that!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

StrawberryTeddybear · 19/01/2014 21:18

Hi all,

Hope everyone is good!

I lost 2lb last week so very chuffed with that! Been good all week apart from today, got slightly addicted to bourbons and had 4 in a row - what a waste of 9 points!

tortoise I try not to use the extra points, I'm a bit naughty and try and leave the last 2/3 of my daily points! When I started I'd use them all and at least half of my weekly allowance and my weight was always up and down, then I got stuck and stayed the same for 4 weeks! I was gutted so I tried leaving 5 points a day spare for the whole week and I lost 3.5lb - it was hard but I wasn't starving - just spread my food wisely and snacked on 'free' foods. I've since lost at least 1lb every week since.

I need to do more Excersize though! I walk every day for at least an hour but I want to start running soon. Never ran in my life, can anyone give me some tips?

HoratiaDrelincourt · 20/01/2014 03:00

Couch to 5k seems to have been working for lots of people - have you looked into that?

MsFiremanSam · 20/01/2014 09:36

Well done Strawberry Smile

Lost a pound last week, pretty pleased with that. Not starving at all because of bf but trying to exercise lots. Going to start weaning DD in a couple of weeks and aiming to cut down the bf and finish completely in a couple of months. Hopefully the fat will then melt away instantly! Hmmm...

Just seen Danielle whatshername (not being rude, actually can't remember her name!) from Splash/WAG on Lorraine - pics of her in a swimming costume 19 weeks post partum. How do these people do it?! I've still got loose skin on my tummy regardless of the extra fat and I don't even want to open the draw my swimming costume lives in!

StrawberryTeddybear · 20/01/2014 14:06

horatia not done that, what is it? I'll have a lil google

msfiremansam well done you too!

I'm super jealous of any woman who gets back to pre-preg weight super quickly! I had the 9 months on 9 months off view but DS will be 9 months in a couple weeks and I'm certainly not even close Sad

HoratiaDrelincourt · 20/01/2014 17:20

I don't know much about it either but half my FB friends seem to be on it.

Ineedhelp88 · 21/01/2014 16:23

Can I join?

I have a 10 week old newborn and am back to my normal size (12) but with a podgy belly. However, I have been over eating and using breastfeeding as an excuse. I would like to maintain my current weight whilst being healthy.

I walk an hour a day (school run) and have reduced my portion sizes. I serve my meals on a smaller plate which helps. I am not willing to cut anything out but have reduced my carb intake.

xtremeraverbaby · 21/01/2014 19:08

Hey im 3 months pp and bf but desperate to lose weight as im still 3 stone too heavy. I put on about 4 stone in total and piled it on after giving up smoking when I found out I was pregnant. I've ordered a 30 day shred dvd so wish me luck! I think this is the only way I can lose weight in my home without affecting my milk supply through diet

Mrswellyboot · 21/01/2014 21:57

I started weight watchers simple start. Didn't really stick to it but was fairly good and lost 1.5 pound last week and was very strict except for one meal out this week and list 3.5 pound. I am near to pre baby weight (sadly was overweight before pregnancy) but feeling great. Baby is four months. still have tummy but going in the right direction. It is a good programme I think.

GeorgieWilson · 22/01/2014 08:21

Welcome Ineed, xtreme, and Mrswelly.
Hope everyone is well and having a good week.
I've been super strict with sticking to my points this week and have been to the gym a couple of times so let's hope it shows on the scale this afternoon.

Ineedhelp88 · 23/01/2014 11:18

I am trying to change my eating habits for good.

I became used to grabbing biscuits and crisps. I have calorie counted before and know biscuits/sweets/crisps are empty calories. However breastfeeding makes me hungry - I could easily eat all the time!

I am trying the following;

Eating wholemeal breadsticks as snacks - three sticks are the same calories as one custard cream biscuit!

No sugar in hot drinks

Eating meals on a side plate rather than dinner plate

Walking for one hour a day

No fizzy drinks
