TotallyAddictedToLurking · 26/12/2013 19:58

I am 4 stone over weight and it's making me very unhappy. I've been saying I'll lose weight for the last two years! Instead I've just gotten fatter.

I know most people don't keep up their new years resolutions but I am hoping having a thread on here will help.

If anyone is interested please feel free to join me. I will be using weight watchers but I would love anyone to join.

I intend to start on Jan 1st. I've bought
a nice diary to write my food in.

I'd love it if people could share meal plans and recipie ideas.

Last day today of mindless eating. Back on MFP tomorrow after a good 2 weeks of indulgence. Some of it was fun but I'm actually looking forward to getting a bit of control back and feeling less bloated and sluggish.

Somewhat dreading the morning weigh in though but I need to know what I'm dealing with!

And bigwellylittlewelly well done at keeping within your limit. It's easy to go a bit mad once you eat something you didnt want to and then eat loads. But controlling the slip ups is a big part of success I think.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 02/01/2014 21:36

I've made a conscious effort to drink more water than I do any average day and the difference is amazing! I was feeling so bloated and horrible yesterday and even this morning. But now I feel so much better.

I've been watching a lot of inspirational videos on YouTube of woman who have lost 4+ stones. Making me feel confident that I can do it Grin

TalkinPeace · 02/01/2014 21:36

mothergirth
make sure you actually weigh things
and yes, if you have lots of veg and lean protein you will physically struggle to eat 1500 calories

on a fast day I have my 500 as vegetables - usually in soup - and I can barely finish it !

WoodBurnerBabe · 03/01/2014 07:26

I went over yesterday - I had a night out and although I'd planned for a small tea and a whole bottle of red wine to drink (which would have been within my limits), I ended up pigging out on snacks. Sigh. No control when drink has been taken.

I've planned today out to the nth degree already though, including some treaty IKEA meatballs with gravy, so hopefully today will be better and I can get out for a run tonight to try and repair the damage :-)

Applesnotcakes · 03/01/2014 08:14

Snacks are the work of the devil. Listen to Talkinpeace. She won't allow a snack within sight and she's right. But it's bloody difficult, especially as you say with the alcohol.

So today is D day. The end of all the indulgence. Now looking at calories on a weekly basis. I can eat what I like as long as its in my calories. Some days will be pretty low - I struggle to limit it to 500 but around 700 or 800 is doable and other days when I'm out or need bottles of wine will be more. But overall I will average out at 1500 a day. And I will walk a lot.

And I will lose weight.

Onwards and downwards all.

GoGoveGo · 03/01/2014 11:06

I dropped off the wagon for two days - ate chunk and so on :( Back now though and getting on with it; I had a late breakfast so had soup and stopped at one bread roll when MFP told me how many calories are in the bread.

shutitweirdo · 03/01/2014 20:03

I've been getting light headed around mid morning and mid afternoon. I think it's sugar related and have 2 breakfast biscuits to stop it. Does anyone else get this? I'm still managing to stay under points though but it's annoying that it keeps happening.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 03/01/2014 20:08

It prob is sugar related. I've just had such a sore head the last few days and I think its due to not eating nearly as much crap as I was!!
Just completed my diary for the day. Over by about 25 cals but im properly stuffed after dinner so will not need to eat anything else tonight!

Applesnotcakes · 03/01/2014 20:34

I've had a headache, and that happened last time I first cut down. But it only lasted a day or two, and i just need to stick it out this time while my body adjusts from the rather large amounts it has become accustomed to over the last couple of weeks.

Making significant changes is bound to have some effect. I think for me the thing is not to be so bothered about it. If I have a headache for a few days or feel hungry sometimes so what. It will pass and I will feel better.

TalkinPeace · 03/01/2014 20:38

shutitweirdo
I've been getting light headed around mid morning and mid afternoon
very unlikely to be sugar related, and please do not handle it by eating sugar.
Far, far, far more likely is that you are dehydrated.
If you start feeling light headed or shaky, drink a pint of water follwed by a mug of tea.

As applesnotcakes so rightly says, you need to stick it out and get your body used to working happily at a much lower average sugar level
one that will not put you at risk of lots of chronic diseases

HugAndRoll · 03/01/2014 20:53

Does anyone else feel hungry when they get cold?

BigWellyLittleWelly · 03/01/2014 21:28

When I'm hungry I get cold.
When I'm tired I get cold.
Night feeds suck right now!

I have to admit I do feel better than I have for months. I am also realising I don't drink enough.

TalkinPeace · 03/01/2014 21:31

Cold / Hunger
Too blerdy right, and it gets worse when you get skinny!
And the answer is ....
hot drinks
tea, coffee, bovril, horlicks, warm milk
anything with stuff all calories but that you can wrap your fingers around the cup!
I also often go to bed early and read snuggled under the duvet on restricted eating days

some of the 5:2 ladies who have already lost several stone took a while to realise that they have effectively taken off two jumpers and a fleece - no wonder they felt cold Grin

MerylStrop · 03/01/2014 21:36

Did my first fast day yesterday, went well, (miso soul and seaweed crisps for lunch, Covent garden skinny soup for supper so 400 calls total) also at tromp in the woods and a swim with the kids (managed 20 lengths).

Fell off the sugar wagon by accident today with coconut water, which had sugar in it on closer inspection but otherwise no processed carbs (bit of fruit). Zero exercise. Feeling tired so early to bed I think.

Hot yoga tomorrow and another fast day, perhaps another swim with kids.
Need to get into the groove of the food and the exercise, not there yet. Not anywhere near there!

Talking peace your comments are v useful! Thanks, keep em coming!

MerylStrop · 03/01/2014 21:40

Anyone else put there aiming to kick the sugar into touch?

Cold turkey? Or ok to have fruit? Hate not having a bit of fruit.....

DameBabsLoveCheese · 03/01/2014 21:40

I'm just de lurking to say hi. I've already added a lot of you on MFP (El*or2873).
I'm looking to lose 5 stone by next Xmas. Even typing that I can't believe I need to lose 5 stone. But I do Confused
I've been doing the Anna Stephenson Body Blitz since NYD (no sugar, no dairy, no carbs after 6pm, no wheat & no alcohol).
Early days but have stuck to it so far & kept within 1200cals a day.

If nothing else, I'm amazingly proud of myself for not eating sugar for 3 days. I have (had?) a serious addiction to sweets, chocolate & biscuits.

DameBabsLoveCheese · 03/01/2014 21:41

Meryl, I'm eating loads of fruit. ASAIK, it's refined sugar that's the issue.

TalkinPeace · 03/01/2014 22:02

Cutting out / down sugar
intrinsic sugars = those in fruit, milk, vegetables and other fresh foods
extrinsic sugars = added : sucrose, fructose ad infinitum ad nauseum
the latter group are just not needed in any healthy persons diet
the former group ....
its tricky because while you are re educating your system to "think thin"
cutting down on all sugars - and making them back into an "occasional treat" will help your Insulin system

a hypothetical target ...
see if you can go no sugar at all monday to Thursday
(no booze, no fruit, no chocolate, no crap)
and then see how the weekends go

bettyblueeyes83 · 03/01/2014 22:03

Can I join? I need to lose exactly 52 pounds to reach my goal of 10st and would love to do it in a year!

I've lost over 30lbs using MFP (net - I lost about 50 and regained) but haven't stuck with it or exercised consistently for ages.

I'm now trying 5:2 with MFP - first fast day yesterday. Joining a new gym on Mon. My MFP name is behindblueeyes_83.

bettyblueeyes83 · 03/01/2014 22:34

Oh, and I use Fitbit, which is brilliant.

roosterroo · 03/01/2014 22:46

Two fast days in and not too bad find I have to plan the fast days tho, interested too see how I've done weight wise !

MyNameIsKenAdams · 03/01/2014 23:27

talkingpeace my MFP told me Im not taking in enough calories?? I have a limit of 1300 per day (not doing 5:2) and only managed 1000 today. Said I wont lose if I undereat by this much often.

What do I do?

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 03/01/2014 23:34

Yes you need to eat your allowance. Any less and body will hang on to all it has. Food is fuel and your body needs fuel to work at its full potential

MyNameIsKenAdams · 03/01/2014 23:37

Oh bugger.

Shall I just shovel a few biscuits down then Wink ?

atomicyoghurt · 03/01/2014 23:38

I have been so busy stuffing guy face with th a last of the Christmas goodies that I lost you all for a bit there. But I've finally hit the ground with a bang and weighed in.

So here it is. The confession.

Current weight: 187 lb
Target weight: 147 lb

That would take me from BMI of 28 to 22.5

Not an unreasonable target but it seems a lot to lose.
I'm trying to dream of myself that slim in 40 weeks time!
