And anyone else who wants to join in. The idea of this thread is a way to record weightloss, motivate each other, discuss which methods if any we are using to lose weight and give the occasional kick up the bum.

Right you lot. I was going to wait until new year to start this thread but I think that if I'm going to have my head in the right place to start, I need your help now. I haven't weighed yet I'll do that on the 1st but I think I probably have 2 1/2 stone to lose. Last time I had 3st to lose so I'm seeing that as a postitive.

So, are any of you still out there? Who'd like to join me? Xmas Grin

Tbf eighty I'm technically a size 10 now but still ate my fair share of two boxes of mini egg easter cakes!

IF slow and steady is the only way!

I went running again last night, just over 5k in 30 ish minutes, forgot to press 'start' on my runkeeper app so waiting for my friend to report back on the specifics!

Family still in the sick bay, and now I've got a fetching sore red eye!

Glad everyone's back. You were all so kind to me last week. I need this thread.

Well done If. Steady is usually better in the long run for being able to maintain it.

Eighty, draw a line under the tea cakes and back on it. If you don't, you'll carry on in F it mode and end up seriously pissed off with yourself.

Kato, can I ask if you are now that person who can eat what they like because they burn it off? I wish I enjoyed exercise. Envy

I haven't done shred yet this week but as the weather is so good dh and I have blocked out bike time on Thursday. Unfortunately I'm still not ready to go on my own.

Kato I hope your eye gets better soon and the rest of your poorly house. :(

Hello

Good to see people back again.

Hair hope you enjoy the bike ride tomorrow.

Kato hope you all feel better soon. How miserable.

Can't remember if I've actually mentioned this on here or if I've just thought about it, but is anyone else not sure what their ultimate goal is> Initially it was to get to pre preg weight, then to a healthy BMI, then to lose 100lbs, then to size 12, then to BMI in middle of healthy category.....feels like I dont' know where ultimately I'm going to stop and just keep going as long as I can. I'm not complaining at all...just wondering what other peoples goals are/how they've changed etc.

Put a boden order in their spring preview yonks ago and it's been despatched so awaiting delivery with excitement to see how/if they fit. That's my Christmas money gone now Sad

ifandwhen interesting link and thoughts. I find it useful to think from the mental point of view of someone who is healthy/slim.

TheOneWithTheHair · 12/03/2014 16:31

I just looked at the link. You are right that the post makes sense. I'm going to give it a go I think.

Reastie, my ultimate goal is to be 9st 6. And then maintain it. I've got just under 1.5st to lose. My short term goal is to be a healthy BMI. I am a whisper away and I am actually struggling to think I'm not there. I'm 5' 5.5" and I weigh 152lbs.

Does anyone know where I can find a reliable online calculator? Does anyone use one?

OP posts:
InMySpareTime · 12/03/2014 18:49

I put my weight into the Oxford University "new BMI" calculator, it says I still have a healthy BMI at my current weight of 8st 6, but puts my healthy range from 8st 8 at the top end down to 6st 7 at the bottom! That does not seem a healthy adult weight for anyone! I know primary schoolers that weigh more than that.
I'm always dubious of sites connected to weight loss products, they have a vested interest in making people seem fatter than they are.
The Bupa or British Heart Foundation ones seem ok though.

ifandwhen · 12/03/2014 19:50

IMST - totally agree, 6st odd does not sound good! Mid-BMI for me (at 5' 6") would be around 9st 7, I think. But I've never been much under 10st as an adult, and for 10 years I was a professional dancer. (Another story in itself!) Obviously I'm way out of shape currently but even 'in shape' I think I am just a fairly solid person - 'athletic' build might be a kinder word, if it didn't seem so inappropriate right now! Anyway, I don't think I tend to look as heavy as I am, if that makes sense.

So in answer to Reastie, I guess I've met my first goal since joining this thread by losing half a stone and getting back to a healthy BMI (just!), and as long as I don't wander off track I aim to continue in half stone chunks, but just try to accept that weight loss might pretty much grind to a halt around 10st, and then concentrate on improving my fitness and maintaining weight. Simple eh Wink

TheOneWithTheHair · 12/03/2014 20:49

Thanks IMST. I'll look at those.

If, I'm 5' 5.5" so 9st 6 should be mid BMI for me. A professional dancer sounds exciting.

Well according to the Oxford University one I do have a healthy BMI. Maybe the Wii Fit is stuck. Confused

KatoPotato · 12/03/2014 22:01

Prrfffttt.... Just as my week got even shitter (tonsillitis now!) now I'm overweight again thanks to that sodding bmi calculator...

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/03/2014 00:08

Kato, that can't be right. You are tiny now. How tall are you?

OP posts:
KatoPotato · 13/03/2014 08:40

I'm 5ft 3' and 142 lbs.

But my trainer has said before it's a bit of a red herring because my body fat % is only 19. I think I'm just dense with muscle?

Clutching at straws..

TheOneWithTheHair · 13/03/2014 10:33

I think your trainer is right actually. Love the picture. Grin

OP posts:
Reastie · 13/03/2014 13:01

Wow kato that's some muscle, you look like a proper athlete. Do you know what % muscle you are? [nosy] There is no way on earth you are obese! I did that BMI page too and it said my minimum healthy weight was about 8 stone I think, which seems way too low IMO.

Things OK here (lest we forget the chocolate chunk earlier). Did an insanity max workout earlier which was a killer. I've been lazy and just doing their 'easy' workouts for the past couple of months, so their tough ones are a bit of a shock to the system!

if dancer eh? Any interesting celeb stories from your dancing days? (or did you do other sorts of dancing?)

ifandwhen · 13/03/2014 16:39

Kato - boo to tonsilitis, that's particularly horrible. But since we've already established that you're some sort of Wonder Woman, clearly BMI just can't compute those sorts of special powers Smile oh and also love the photo.

Reastie - def a non-celeb sort of dancing, but I did enjoy it. Thinking vaguely of getting back into it - teaching, not performing that is, wouldn't like to be away too much, and quite possibly too decrepit Grin. We shall see.

Hi all,

Work are all doing a beep fitness test instead of a staff meeting on Monday after work and I'm debating popping in just for fun to join in. Anyone done it before? Just been googling and looks like lots of non stop jogging, and I'm not used to not taking any breaks so probably won't be much good.

if teaching it sounds fun. What sort of dancing did you do?

Working tomorrow, boo.

Reastie · 17/03/2014 07:02

Morning. STS this week. Well, put on 1/2 lb actually, but that doesn't count Hmm so will be ignoring it. Hoping it's just post period bloating (weirdly I seem to get this post AF not just before). Still plodding on. Must try harder on the chocolate front but other than that just keeping going. Not much else to report [boring]

ifandwhen · 17/03/2014 11:04

Morning Reastie. I've STS too. Phew. Seem to have had a few weeks of simply being happy to tread water, am now feeling bit more motivated again, hoping for a loss this time next week! Are you going to do the beep fitness test? I haven't done one, but it sounds like good exercise! Do you do it regularly to measure progress or is it a one-off?

Reastie · 17/03/2014 16:03

I really wanted to do it but got side tracked meeting friends Blush . I have spotted alot of online free mp3s etc to do it at home so may do it in the garden one week end to see what I get. Completely change of subject but I don't have the bargain thread going strong to tell people about todays bargain - got muzzy french dvds sets level 1 and 2 set for £8 for both from charity shop today. That's a great buy, right? [hesitant proudness]

ifandwhen · 17/03/2014 17:06

Reastie - liking the hesitant proudness. And meeting friends definitely part of healthy lifestyle possibly more so than being beeped at - I need to get out more. Been plugging away at the computer all day, got really into what I was working on, but now feel a bit spaced out!

Speaking of getting out more, where are the rest of you? Off having adventures in real life, and being suitably motivated, I hope? Grin

eighty imagine you're jet setting at the minute. Hope you have a good time Envy

Think I may have signed up to too much....tomorrow for sports relief they are trying to get staff at the school i work at to do a bleep test and student pay to laugh at teachers watch us huff and puff. I may have signed up Hmm . I was looking forward as thought I couldn't be unfit but done the test 4 times yesterday and today and couldn't get to level 4 (which equates to 'unfit'). Really didn't think I'd be unfit Confused . I wonder if it's as you just run non stop getting faster and the workouts I do are high intensity but short bursts so I always have a break to recover. Am seriously considering backing out. Being told I'm unfit is bad enough but to be told so in front of a school full of teenagers is just cringeworthy Confused . I told my Dad (who does athletics training) I could barely get a level 4 and he did a Shock face as in he couldn't believe I was so rubbish!

InMySpareTime · 20/03/2014 13:55

Reastie, it'll be fine. Focus on making it to 5 or 6 tomorrow, your own fitness progress should only be measured against you!
Sorry I've been off-thread for a while, I've had some sort of throat/ear/general virus thing that's knocked me out for weeks now.
I'm rarely ill, and this has sapped my energy. I keep doing too much as soon as I feel a bit better and ending up even more tired, but it's frustrating seeing all the stuff I should be able to do being done badly by others.
