Brew for wellies

Hazelbrowneyes · 01/04/2014 08:32

Well yesterday's plan went out the window. I had a chocolate bar and homemade bread toasted, dipped into one of those "selection pack of dips". Officially useless. Oh and I had a glass of red.

Today though, I start again. I do have cake here so can't promise I won't scoff it, but I am planning on being much more sensible. No alcohol for the month if I can

B - none yet but I have a pain au chocolat
L - ham, cheese, pasta, mayo
D - chicken fajitas
S - I have at my disposal low fat crisps, carrot cake AND chocolate cake. Doh.

Didn't really sleep as woke up in middle of night needing a wee...whilst, erm, weeing, I had the most excruciating pain in my right hand side. Felt like it was my ovary about to burst. I'd like to say this was a one off but it's happened the last two months as well - 4 or 5 days before AF arrived. Worth seeing a doc? I'm thinking of booking an appointment with the GP that specialises in all things gynae at the end of next month when I'd expect it to happen again.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 01/04/2014 19:59

Yes it's worth seeing a doc.
ASAP.

Hazelbrowneyes · 02/04/2014 08:25

Well now I'm not at all scared amanda Wink Grin

I'll book an appointment asap, promise. Weirdly, it's only happened once this cycle though. I expected it all day yesterday and over night but nothing.

Sooooo....I was SO good yesterday! I had the low fat crisps and a little bit of carrot cake but I ignored the chocolate cake! I had no alcohol either. Did have a hot chocolate.

Determined to shift some of this weight now - it's like a switch has gone off in my head - so I'm going to start the exercise again.

Today
B - cornflakes, skimmed milk (a teeny sprinkling of sugar)
L - egg mayo with salad
D - chilli and rice
S - low fat crisps, potentially a small bit of carrot cake
NO ALCOHOL. Aiming for 20 mins on cross trainer and some weights.

I'm feeling pretty good today. Just need to get my backside in gear and actually do some work today Grin

SlightlyDampWellies · 02/04/2014 08:34

So glad you are feeling good Hazel! Get thee to thy doctor, and continue to feel positive!

How are you Amanda? Hope you are getting some sleep!

Milly how you doing also? :)

Me yesterday.

B- cheerios with stewed rhubarb and milk
L- beef casserole on toast
D- steak and salad.

Today.
B- cheerios with stewed prunes.
L- ham salad sandwich
D- home made rye bread, smoked salmon, crème fraiche.

Have told DH that I am not drinking any wine until I have lost a stone and a half. So he will have some white wine and I will have elderflower and sparkling water. Yum. I am becoming quite addicted to that!

I feel like a switch has gone off in my head too. I am feeling calm, and thinking that I shall do my best for every meal, but not stress and worry, because it does not matter how long the weight takes to come off, IT IS COMING OFF. Slowly but surely. Little tweaks each week. I fully expect to report a loss this Friday. :)

hazelbrowneyes · 02/04/2014 09:30

Excellent Wellies hopefully I can join you in reporting a loss on Friday!

We can be "dry" buddies together. Wine is so calorific and yummy I do find it hard to refuse. Not helped by fact my friends are off to France at the end of the month and will be bringing me back 6 bottles of my favourite rose.

Determined to feel better about myself this year. Tonight I'm going to have a mini pamper session I think. Nails, conditioning treatment on hair, good moisturise (I'm rubbish at this) and maybe a mini facial.

Next few days will be tough on the not drinking front - friends partner goes away tomorrow, back on Sunday. I live a few houses away from her so I know she'll expect the company and to be honest, I don't mind as they do it for me when DH is away. She won't go without alcohol though. Tomorrow night it'll be down the pub heaven forbid we ever break that routine and the same on Friday. I want to do something different on Saturday though. No idea what as she's very set in her ways and will want to go to the same pub she's gone to every saturday afternoon for a sandwich and beer followed by stopping at the local on the way home and then pizza and copious amounts of red wine at hers.

GAH. I want to do something different with my weekend!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 02/04/2014 10:10

Fret not hazel

hazelbrowneyes · 02/04/2014 10:16

No appointments available today. Will try again tomorrow, although I'm interviewing for staff all morning. Otherwise they have a triage service on Friday so will probably aim for then.

The carrot cake is calling my name. This is not good. Grin

SlightlyDampWellies · 02/04/2014 10:37

I know about friends and habits too! Have no idea what the weather has in store, but is there any point in suggesting walk/picnic followed by pizza? Or is even that out of the question?

Glad to have a dry buddy. :) I adore adore the taste of a cold white wine. But it means then i eat the fridge. I have to put my foot down now otherwise I am still going to be this weight this time next year.

hazelbrowneyes · 02/04/2014 10:44

Completely out of the question. The furthest she'll walk is to a pub about 10 minutes away. Everything we do HAS to involve a pub. We were all going on a city break in August and I was dreading it as they'd already said "Right, we'll dump the stuff at the hotel and go on a pub crawl" Err, no. I can do that at home! Thankfully the weekend has been cancelled now.

Same here, Wellies. Nothing better than a glass of cold, crisp white wine. However, I do struggle to stop at one glass so I know I'm better off going without.

SlightlyDampWellies · 02/04/2014 11:15

I am so with you on pub crawls. I love a decent afternoon in a pub, but not when you are somewhere new! It just seems the most terrible waste of time and opportunity! (I went away for a week to rural France some years ago with friends who are big drinkers. They bought up loads of alcohol at the local supermarket, and drank from morning to night. I was in their house, no independent transport and bored out of my mind. I spent most of my time walking around the local farmer's cabbage field. Not how I wanted to spend my first trip to France! )

Minor off-topic diversion!

Yes, even one glass seems to make me lose my food off switch. :)

TheRealAmandaClarke · 02/04/2014 13:15

On the up side, drinking less has the effect of making a glass of wine a lovely, warm-buzz inducing treat.
Whereas in my Pre dc days the best part of a bottle was required.

hazelbrowneyes · 02/04/2014 13:23

Grin That sounds a much cheaper way of having a treat.

I've not been drinking so much bubbly recently as it gives me horrendous reflux...treated myself to a bottle on Sunday. SO SO nice. I think I appreciated it more because I don't drink it every night any more.

Salad and crisps consumed. Hungry.

SlightlyDampWellies · 03/04/2014 06:46

Good morning everyone.

Hope you are all well and fine.

Going out for lunch today as DH is at home. So I just plan to make good choices. :)

TheRealAmandaClarke · 03/04/2014 07:58

Have a great lunch wellies
I'm so bloody fat. Must weigh 50 stone. It's so depressing.
I need to fast. Might start today. It's just so hard when I'm tired and stressed cause of the comfort eating.
Booking a holiday for June and absolutely cannot be seen on a beach like this (wobbly blubbery old mess) [grrrr]

hazelbrowneyes · 03/04/2014 08:07

Yesterday
B - cornflakes, skimmed milk (a teeny sprinkling of sugar)
L - egg mayo with salad
D - chilli and rice
S - low fat crisps, small bit of carrot cake, small bit chocolate cake, hot chocolate.
No alcohol but I didn't get on x-trainer either. I did do some weights and squats though.

Today
B - cornflakes, skimmed milk (a teeny sprinkling of sugar)
L - ham and egg salad (massive salad, actually)
D - fish, apparently (probably breaded and with chips Grin)
S - low fat crisps and I've got some dry crackers with me. I want to make snacking boring in an attempt to actually stop.
No alcohol again and will get on x-trainer even if it kills me. I might get DH to force me on actually! Grin

Sounds like a nice day ahead wellies Can't wait to hear what you have!

So it's only been a few days off the booze and I'm already sleeping so much better. Didn't stir once in the night which is pretty unlike me. DH slept properly as well not that he'll realise this is down to having no alcohol

I'm totally on for a month off the booze. I might get some low alcohol wine for when the weather improves but I don't intend to touch that until May. Actually, I won't buy it until May, then I don't have the temptation!

I was reading an article a few weeks ago and a woman spent 30 days off alcohol...the change in her was incredible. Her eyes were bright, her skin was clear. She looked 5 years younger immediately. That and potential weight loss are definitely the motivation to keep me going!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 03/04/2014 08:44

Soda and lime is a good non alcohol-low cal drink IMHO
Also low cal tonic with a slice of lemon or lime. You get the dry taste, which is what I miss when I'm not drinking.

hazelbrowneyes · 03/04/2014 09:13

Low cal tonic is a good call actually amanda

I tend to have lime and soda a lot mainly because I can pretend there is vodka in it

At home I drink flavoured sparkling water. Elderflower is my absolute favourite. Oh and squash. Cannot beat blackcurrant and apple squash Grin

I'm fine with soft drinks most of the time - at work it's only tea and water but it's when I get home and the sun is shining, I just want to sit out with a large glass of wine. I'm also fine at not drinking in my local pub, mainly because I don't want to pay £5 for a shit glass of wine. It's the other pub, the one we'll go to on Saturday, where I can easily sink a bottle, as I proved last Thursday Grin

I think the main problem is this social circle. Two alcoholics are never going to understand not wanting to drink for a month. I so wish they could see what they're doing to themselves. They're one of the reasons I do want to get out of this habit actually. I want to be fitter and healthier. I don't want to waste my life sat in the same corner of the same pub every day at the same time.

SlightlyDampWellies · 03/04/2014 10:05

I really like low cal tonic with pomegranate juice. Like Amanda it is the dry taste that makes it feel like a 'real' drink.

I have been alcohol-free for 8 days now... and I certainly notice a difference in my skin.

I also understand about the social circle issue. Everyone in our social circle drink hard. That's normal. All social activities revolve around alcohol too. I have come to the conclusion that it is boring and time-sucking. I want to do other things- picnics, walks, rock-pooling, so many other things to do rather than sit around.

With the added bonus that you look better, feel better, and can remember when you have had a good time! Grin

hazelbrowneyes · 03/04/2014 10:34

Well I've just been challenged by the lad who works for me...he doesn't think I can do it.

Ho ho ho...yes I can. Nothing more motivating than someone thinking you'll fail.

The social activities having to revolve around alcohol really annoy me. I've previously suggest a picnic on the beach but got blank looks because it's not an effing pub.

I'd be considered strange to drive out somewhere for dinner and not have a drink - we always end up going to the same places with this lot as it's within taxi/train distance. With other friends, they don't bat an eye lid when we drive - and infact, we tend to take it in turns as to who drives which works nicely funnily enough though it's only the women who take turns and we do different things.

Thankfully, DH also wants to change the social circle we're in. Not cut them out completely but spend more time with other people and see a bit more. Do different things.

Actually my plan to do something different/new each weekend is going pretty well. Haven't planned anything for this weekend though. Hmm.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 03/04/2014 13:03

Ooh. Just caved and eaten a to of veggie spag Bol Blush
And an apple and a slice of melon.
That will have me at my limit of 500cals for a fasting day.
Dh will make dinner for him and the dcs so hopefully I can duck out of that experience altogether.
So desperately need to get back on track.
I really liked fasting when I did it before. Just need to get through the challenging bits of the day.

hazelbrowneyes · 03/04/2014 16:29

I'm in awe of you managing to do it amanda I just don't have the will power Envy

I've done loads better today though...have had 5 dry crackers as snacks. That's it. No crisps. HURRAH! Grin

Not quite sure I'm motivated to get on X-trainer though Hmm

SlightlyDampWellies · 03/04/2014 17:55

OOOh yum. Veggie spag bol.

Had a nice lunch with DH. Had smoked mackerel salad followed by grilled lamb with vegetables. Mmmm. Then an espresso, which I never have.

Now on the dinner for DCs, bath and bed wind-down. Not too far out of bed myself.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 03/04/2014 19:10

Great lunch wellies

I'm starving. And I'm probably a bit over my 500 coz I ate a large handful of unsalted nuts.
But it's a start.
And tomorrow I can eat normally.
Still have to remember not to snack or binge though.
