Grommit · 24/02/2004 19:23

Can I join you all? Just joined Weightwatchers last night to fight the post baby bulge. Nearly passed out when weighed...need to lose at lease 1 stone.

fairydust · 26/02/2004 23:13

How many points can men have???

Hulababy · 27/02/2004 08:22

Depends on his starting weight FD. Here is the guide:

24 = under 10 stone
26 = 10-12 stone
28 = 12-14 stone
30 = 14-16 stone
32 = 16-18 stone
34 = 18-20 stone
36 = more than 20 stone

fairydust · 27/02/2004 08:52

thanks hula - dh has decided to shift a couple of punds for summer

Hulababy · 27/02/2004 08:54

My DH has been doing it with me too and it does help. He has lost nearly a stone now in the 7.5 weeks. Good luck to you both.

SecondhandRose · 27/02/2004 17:50

Still going strong here, done 2 hours of heavy housework today, but still trying to stick to around 18-20 points a day. Looking forward to Sunday's weigh in.

Hulababy · 28/02/2004 20:08

Thought I had better own up here too. I have just had half a 12inch stuffed crust pizza and it was fantastic. Pizza was my main vice and I haven't had one since starting this diet. I know I shouldn't have today but feeling a bit down and fed up so it was to treat myself. It was so good I have no idea how many points were in it and not going to even attempt to work it out.

Will be back on track tomorrow!

fairydust · 28/02/2004 21:43

HUla well done for owning up.

I've just had the WW luxious chocolate icecream with marshmellows it is so nice

Sonnet · 03/03/2004 12:55

Hi Guys - Have just read this thread through from start to finish and am v.impressed by your dedication - I'm hoping you can give me some advice.
I have been overweight since the birth of DD2 and had lost all motivation to do anything about it. Have realised in the past couple of weeks since she turned three that unless I make a concerted effort I'm stuck with this extra weight....so here goes...
I am only 5foot like hulababy and weigh 9 stone 4 ilbs - it may not sound too overweight BUT I am 2 dress sizes heavier than I use to ne and a whole 24lbs heavier. I would be happy at 8 stone, therefore have 20lbs to loose.
I havn't got time to go to meetings as Dh often works late and would have to find and pay for babysitters - can't afford that...
Have just looked at weight watchers on-line - looks great but seems to me a lot of money (49.99 for 3 months). (To be honest I cannot afford to outlay this) - so is it worth it???
Cheers - and good luck to you all...

miranda2 · 03/03/2004 13:09

I wouldn't bother - as i said below, i'm doing it jsut with the points book and keeping track myself. want a copy of the points??

Grommit · 03/03/2004 13:11

I just lost 3.5 lbs in my first WW week!
Sonnet - If you are like me and many of us you need motivation - that is why the WW weekly weigh in is good. I don't stay for the class just get weighed and then leave - only takes 5 mins. You would only need someone to sit with the kids for half an hour. The on-line WW seemed very expensive to me

Sonnet · 03/03/2004 13:16

That would be great Miranda2 - I can contact you via contact another talker and send you my address?.
I thought it was very expensive too grommitt - don't have family near by, would need to organise babysitter therefore must pick her up, take her back (loading kids in car too)and pay her at least an hour - can just see myself not going as it is just another hassel on top of the hassels of early evening, food and homework in the Sonnet household!!

RexandBen · 03/03/2004 16:06

Hi everyone,

how many points for a woman under 10 stone? I did it when I was breastfeeding but I know I wont beable to eat as much this time

Also is the new 'Time to Eat' any different from the old 'POINTS' diet?

Are there any points in asparagus?

Kittypickle · 03/03/2004 16:18

RexandBen, it's 18 points for a women under 10 stone and there aren't any points in asparagus. The 'Time to Eat' programme is still based on the same points system, think it's just a marketing ploy to get more members.

fairydust · 04/03/2004 08:25

I'm after ideas - could you please tell me what you's eat on a ww day please.

SecondhandRose · 04/03/2004 16:25

Each food has a points value. You really need all their paperwork to find all this out. You can go to a class and buy the stuff but not join the class.

Fabs are only 1 point
Curly Wurly's are 2.5 point

My saviours

SecondhandRose · 04/03/2004 16:27

Down to 12stone 9 from 13 stone 2 and feeling very motivated.

If anyone has the Discovery Health channel, watch Dietbusters at 6.30pm. (channel 196 on Sky).

candy · 04/03/2004 19:21

Can you buy the points info any other way than going to a class? Do bookshops sell them?

Demented · 04/03/2004 21:03

I've seen lots of WW stuff on e-Bay when I have been shopping for cookbooks, I don't know which ones you would need to buy to be up-to-date but perhaps someone who is doing WW could post what the books are called and you could look out for them on e-Bay?

Kittypickle · 04/03/2004 21:21

This is what you need to get started. The handbook has all the points values of basic foods and you use the points finder to work out the points in packets and tins etc.I've just got back from my WW meeting and our leader told us about an article in the Telegraph the other day. WW is working for me so far, I've lost 16lbs in the last 8 weeks (I didn't stick to it for 3 of them!)

IDismyname · 04/03/2004 22:51

Miranda2
I'm coming in a bit late on your chicken stock query, but I have some good news

If you skim all the fat off your chicken stock, it's....

NIL POINTS
(said with a Eurovision Song Contest accent)

I lost 2 stone with WW, and reached my goal last summer. Can't say it's easy keeping it off though.

I cannot recommend the classes enough. It's a good excuse to make some new friends, and spend the best part of an hour talking about "gastronomic porngraphy" ie the stuff you're not supposed to eat! And the good thing is, you can talk about losing weight without anyone getting bored!

eidsvold · 05/03/2004 19:55

i have been at this for ages and lost 2 stone already and trying to get through a plateau.... i have a lot left to go but already feel so much better for it - just have dips in my motivation expecially when very stressed ( most of the time with my job at present)

candy · 05/03/2004 20:07

Thankyou for the help demented and kitty. Kitty, unfortunately my computer is playing up and I can't open that link - is there a web address?

Kittypickle · 05/03/2004 20:36

Candy it's cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3592323017&category=268 If you do a search on ebay for "weight watchers handbook" you get a couple to chose from.

miranda2 · 05/03/2004 20:40

Yes, Sonnet, feel free to contact me.
Blue2 - hooray! Chicken stock rocks! Now I can be guilt-free about the one and only thing i do that makes me feel like an earth mother!!
