Welcome to thread 13 of the Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin weight loss system.

The Golden Rules that will aid you on your journey with our like minded friendly support system are:

1. Eat what you WANT
2. Eat when you are HUNGRY
3. Eat CONSCIOUSLY
4. STOP eating when you are satisfied and full

This weight loss system is about re-educating your body; learning to listen to it and in doing so losing weight and inches. After all, eating a meal is not a competition, it's about enjoying what you are putting into your mouth, but not feeling bloated and uncomfortable (or guilty) afterwards!
Many people have issues around food. Many of us have been brought up by the 'clear your plate' parents of yesteryear which leave us feeling guilty if we leave even the smallest morsel of food, but we are working through this guilt or any other hang up we may have, and we are learning to leave a bit on the plate; return to it another time if we really want to or even feed it to the dog or the bin!
So!! forget diets; they may work for a while, but they aren't permanent solutions. This is a new way of living for your brand new life!! Let's get lighter for those Christmas outfits!!

The Paul McKenna system really works and is easy to maintain.

I've C&P'd our previous threads links as they are helpful.

Here are the book choices on AMAZON which is all you need to get started! they aren't compulsory, but they do help! it's something to refer to and listening to the cd's can really focus you.

This is the tapping technique EXPLAINED - this can be useful to combat cravings.

You don't have to buy the book and CD, but we have found that they do help and somehow they keep you on track, so it would probably be a good investment and will cost you far less than a couple of trips to WW or SW meetings, so do consider having them in your life.

Please feel free to join us, whether it's 10lbs or 10 stones you want to lose.
We are friendly, supportive and successful, but we're not hungry and that is a great way to feel when you are dropping dress sizes at the same time!!! so come on in and start living your new life today and make 2013 your year to drop a dress size or several...if we can get those lbs off a few at a time, just think how we could look and feel for Christmas and The New Year!!!
Some of our thread members are also doing PMK's Virtual Gastric Band and although this thread is not about this avenue, we will still be supportive of our friends partaking of this, so don't think we wont be there for you. I'm pretty sure that the Golden Rules will be just as helpful in this process as the I Can Make You Thin process :) so get stuck in :)

I find kicking normally works Jelly! Has he tried those nose strips?

I'm just making breakfast now - a fried egg sandwich yum yum!

Jellybean456 · 07/12/2013 17:45

Hi NoGood

I usually prod him until he wakes and turns over a bit. But then he moans at me for waking him up so I can't win.

He won't do anything about his snoring, or even consider getting those nose strips.

I'm relegated to going downstairs to sleep on an uncomfortable bed.

I did'nt have breakfast, but had a bacon and egg sandwich for lunch with a bowl of chips. Left lots of chips and bread crusts. Had two pints of soda and lime cordial which was lovely and refreshing.

Now having little pot of fruit and nuts, 2 squares of chocolate and a cup of tea.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 08/12/2013 08:34

Jelly you're a much better wife than me, I'd have lost the plot by now!

Resolution no.4: Drink 8 glasses of water a day. There were a couple of times yesterday when I mistook thirst for hunger which was just a total waste of calories (which I know we don't count, but you know what I mean!)

Hope you have another good day today

Bonnie152 · 08/12/2013 08:51

Hi everyone!

I'm sneaking in to say hello! Been lurking on this thread for a few weeks now and decided what the heck, I'll join!

I've done PM successfully before and used it to lose excess weight to help us conceive our daughter. I had a healthy pregnancy gaining little weight but after my baby was born this February it all went downhill! I think I put so much pressure on myself to 'lose the baby weight' and be back in my jeans that it's had the complete opposite affect. 10 months down the line I'm at my all time heaviest, feel absolutely awful and have only a handful of clothes that fit me Sad it makes me feel so sf concious and like I don't even want to go out which in turn makes me feel like a crappy wife and mum.

So I've decided that something has to be done, today! PM WOE is such a breath of fresh air, I need to get back on board and back to basics. I was considering joining SW as my mum has lost quite a bit of weight but I don't feel like being a 'dieting' mum is a good example for my daughter, this way is much more normal.

Has anyone got any advice on how I can go back to basics with PM?

So hoping for a happier, healthier 2014! Xmas Smile

Jellybean456 · 08/12/2013 11:18

Hi All

NoGood- good point about the water. I had a headache yesterday morning, and found myself craving water, so I must have been a tad dehydrated, and absolutely loved those two pints of lime cordial and soda yesterday. I don't normally drink that much in one go.

Just had brekkie with 4 choc biscuits. Feel in an eating mood today, not snacking or binging, but fancy a nice roast. Want real food. So going to have a lovely family dinner.

Welcome Bonnie. Great that you've used PM before and been successful. Rules are the same. Read the top of the page for a quick summary. Get the Cd and book if you can. Cheap on eBay for a couple of quid. Listen to it, read the book and get started.

Or just start now until you get the cd and book. Just remember you've done it before, and already know it works. It's a much better mentality to have than going on another diet, that is not sustainable long term.

Hark at me, with all this, and I've only been doing this for about a month. However it feels great to enjoy life and food normally.

Let us know how you are getting on.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 08/12/2013 11:56

Hi Bonnie welcome back to PM, I'm probably not the best person to give advice as I've been doing this WOE on and off for 5 years now and it still doesn't come naturally to me (but determined to crack it as hate diets and like you want to set a good example to my kids). I'd recommend re-reading the book and listen to the cd everyday just to fully reacquaint yourself. You've probably seen from this thread a lot of us self sabotage when we make weightloss a priority, so maybe instead of focussing on that make being a good role model and developing a healthy relationship with food your priorities instead?

Good luck!

MillyChristmas · 08/12/2013 13:17

Hi Ladies.....Jelly sleep in another room if OH won't do something about snoring.....lack of sleep is a big deal Shock
Welcome Bonnie we are all doing PM mindful eating because we know it makes sense to unlearn the diet mentality and eat normally again. It's about reprogramming your mind to put food back in its rightful place.....eat when you are hungry stop when you feel satisfied....not full. Not wanting your daughter to pick up disordered eating is why I started eating this way about thirteen years ago only then it wasn't PM it was mindfull eating and I read an amazing book called Overcoming Overeating by Jane Hirschman which turned the way I had seen food for the last forty years on its head. My Mother brought me up on diets telling me that I needed to lose weight constantly, telling me I wad fat and she found me disgusting. I felt unloved unless I was thin. Se was only happy when I wad seven stone which is very bad for a girl of 13 who was 5ft 9 . This attitude of hers and her constant starving and not being allowed to eat anything other than the low fat low carb food she gave me caused terrible issues for me and I didn't want my gorgeous little girl growing up like that. My daughter is now 23 slim tall and gorgeous and she eats normally. Always has. Food to her is just what it should be....nourishment and delight in the foods she loves.

MillyChristmas · 08/12/2013 13:23

Notgood doesn't matter about trying to do this woe for years. You are trying to change a lifetime of ingrained bad programming and that's not easy. Stay with us and we can all help each other on good days and bad. Solo has been doing this for three years I think and she doesn't give up. She says she will never diet again.

MillyChristmas · 08/12/2013 13:24

Jelly sounds like your back on track....Go You!!!

MillyChristmas · 08/12/2013 13:30

I feel Notgoods idea of rereading the book is a good one. People whe read it on a regular basis keep " fired up" cause its like having a counselling session every day. Listen to the cd ( I can make you thin or Gastric or both or alternate and all the others.)...I have an emotional eating cd and a few others in a ICMYT pack my OH got me off the internet. All this reading and listening keeps you focussed until it becomes the norm.

Jellybean456 · 08/12/2013 13:52

Hi Milly

I listen to the cd's a lot, although not every day. I alternate between the ICMYT and the gastric one. Also I have re read both books, but going to read them again. Like you said it keeps you fired up.

I've also pre ordered PM's new book and cd on emotional eating.

I've noticed that by not weighing myself, and eating this new way, only when hungry, I am listening to my body more.

Last night whilst lying in bed, I felt thin, a nice feeling. Probably because I was empty of food, but not hungry.

At the moment, I don't have that feeling, but probably because I've just had lunch. Incidentally I Did't have a pudding as felt satisfied. Having a cup of tea instead. My portions are now served on side plates rather than full size dinner plates.

Normally I'd be weighing myself, but no never again, as I don't want to self sabotage.

It's nice being in touch with my body's natural signals again. I used to be like this until my twenties when I started diets. Although I did'nt consciously do mindful eating before diets, dieting made things worse, and I eventually got heavier.

Dieting screws your mind up.

Jellybean456 · 08/12/2013 13:54

Ps. Snoring was bad again last night, so now relegated myself to spare room. Have to get a comfy mattress.

Bonnie152 · 08/12/2013 14:08

Thanks so much for the welcomes everyone Grin

milly so sorry to hear how your mum treated you. I've been brought up seeing my mum yo-yo dieting (she still is! She's also developed type 2 diabetes which I'm terrified of happening to me!) I was also put on a diet when I was a youngster, probably 12/13 and have been in that diet cycle ever since. I'm almost 26 now and feel like I've wasted so much of my life thinking and stressing about food and my weight!

Great to hear about your daughter having a positive relationship with food, that's reassuring to hear. My husband can't understand why I don't just cut calories or join a slimming group but he's never been brought up around food issues so doesn't really understand bless him. Food is def an emotional thing for me and I would do anything not to pass it on to my little one.

I do have the book, it's somewhere in one of the boxes we're yet to unpack since our house move. Will try to dig it out. Also downloaded the app with the trance on it so will go to bed a little early to listen. Smile

Bonnie152 · 08/12/2013 14:10

jellybean great idea about the side plates might try that later!

And you're right, dieting really does mess with your head. But we're all here breaking the cycle Smile

SoloXantiaClaws · 08/12/2013 14:27

Hi all and welcome Bonnie :) yes to reading first post and the book/listening to the cd; they'll get you off the ground!

I can't write much as I need to get sorted out and over to Mums for dinner.

Will catch up soon...

MillyChristmas · 08/12/2013 18:54

Bonnie I am older than you and have spent most of my life worrying about food. My Mothers constant dieting and starving herself definitely left an impression on me as it was but to try and keep me skinny and not allow me to eat when I was hungry, really really hungry was just abusive. Good for you for trying to do things differently. Its hard when diets in all their forms seem to offer answers but they don't really. They just confuse you with regard to the most instinctive need we have, that of eating food when we need it.

Jellybean456 · 08/12/2013 20:24

And some mindful mantras:

MillyChristmas · 08/12/2013 21:46

Thanks Jelly.

NoGoodAtWittyNames · 08/12/2013 22:38

Thanks Jelly especially like the idea of using my opposite hand, think that would really force me to slow down and concentrate on eating mindfully.

Milly again, I am so in awe of what you went through and the fact that you've come out the other side so strong and well adjusted. You're a true inspiration

MillyChristmas · 08/12/2013 23:21

Thanks NoGood I think it was just a case of survive and make my life lovely. I am a very positive person who always looks on the bright side of life, glass half full and all that. My parents had no contact with me for 22 years (Im an only child with no other relatives that I know) and then came over here last year to find me. I definitely know that I am an emotional eater. I am definitely going to be getting that book when it comes out.
Jelly DH has asked for copies of the second link so I have emailed it to him.

How did everyone do this weekend? Ive eaten some lovely food. Had an amazing take away curry on Friday night, Salmon last night and Jacket Potato with vintage welsh cheddar, mayo and salad tonight. Chocolate, sun dried mango and some stollen. Yum.

Bonnie152 · 09/12/2013 06:02

Morning everyone! Smile

Jelly thanks for the links, lots of great tips to think about!

Milly yum your weekend eats sound delicious!

DH is up early for work and unfortunately woke DD and I up (the term bull in a china shop springs to mind! Grin) so she's in our bed and trying to get her back off to sleep so I can listen to the trance before I get up.

It's my day off today so taking LO to the library to choose some festive books. Then got to pop into Sainsburys to get DD a few more winter jumpers. Going to pick up some mackerel pate for lunch too, my fave!

The new book by PM does sound good, I'll be interested to find out more and see how it works.

Bonnie152 · 09/12/2013 06:04

Milly have you been able to rebuild a relationship with your parents, if you don't mind me asking? Must've been quite tough I imagine.
